[SOLVED] VPN Secrets failure from NetworkManager.

So, at some point recently, VPN connection stopped working via nm-applet in Mate.  Not entirely sure at what point it started, I dont use my VPN connection all that often.  OpenVPN connects fine on its own, but when I try to connect via NetworkManager, I get the classic "The VPN Connection Failed because there were no valid VPN Secrets"
I have gotten this before and it was related to gnome-keyring.  I don't think its the same this time.  journalctl is showing the following error:
NetworkManager[375]: <error> [1429861241.801229] [vpn-manager/nm-vpn-connection.c:1899] get_secrets_cb(): Failed to request VPN secrets #2: (5) User canceled the secrets request.
In the past, when I saw this and when I search for this, its all about "(6) No agents were available for this request" and all of those are gnome-keyring related.  Just to be sure, I have wiped out ~/.local/share/keyrings.  It killed all of my keyring entries, but did nothing to fix this.
If I try to edit the VPN entry in nm-connection-editor (as user, works as root) I get "Error initializing editor.  User canceled the secrets request."  This is making me think I have something messed up for permissions somewhere.  It doesn't seem to be in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections that the permissions problem lies.
I am not finding anything about this slightly different error I am getting.  I can connect to the vpn with openvpn from command line fine, but I have grown weak and want my damned nm-applet connection to work.  Any help or clues anyone can give is appreciated.

  • "invalid vpn secrets" problem for networkmanager has driven me mad

    The problem came out after the huge update (libpng/libjpeg) several days ago (but is probably not a problem caused by it). I was not able to start X after that update, and had no time to waste on the fixing, so I just tried to enable testing (though that did not help). And I found my networkmanager-pptp was updated.
    The problem now is that I cannot use networkmanager to connect to the internet through vpn (pptp). An error message "... invalid vpn secrets" comes out every time. I tried different solutions, including:
    1. delete and reconfigure the vpn settings
    2. downgrade networkmanger and related packages
    3. delete ~/.gnome2/keyrings
    4. use gconf-editor to set "refuse-eap" somewhere
    and several other dirty fixes, but all these did not bring the function back.
    The laptop is useless without network and graphical tools. I am still suffering. Anybody can help me?

    i also had this problem and was able to get it working again by removing networkmanager (plus packages depending on it) and upgrading to -git packages from aur:
    network-manager-applet-git-20100212-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
    networkmanager-pptp-git-20100212-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
    networkmanager-git-20100212-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
    in short, i just used:
    pacman -Rcs networkmanager
    pacman -S gtk-doc # (missing dependency for networkmanager-git)
    yaourt -S networkmanager-pptp-git

  • NetworkManager applet doesn't prompt for VPN secret for non-root user

    I'm using NetworkManager in GNOME DE. When logged in as non-root user, I'm unable to connect to a vpnc profile.
    * As non-root, I am able to add/remove/alter/connect to WiFi network profiles with no trouble.
    * As non-root, I am also able to add/remove/alter vpnc profiles.
    * However, the VPN group key and VPN user password do not appear to store properly when adding/editing the profile as non-root. I can enter them, but when I bring the dialog back up, they are always blank. Even so, I can see an entry for vpnc in the Gnome keyring.
    * When I slide the on/off switch to try to connect with the vpn profile, there is no prompt for the VPN group key or password. The switch just slides back to Off immediately and I can see the text 'authentication required' flash briefly where it shows the connection status. After that flashes, the connection status is back to 'Not connected'. No error message displays.
    * If I sign in as root, there are no problems. The VPN 'secrets' will save properly in the dialog, and also if I leave them blank, I'm prompted for them when I activate the connection.
    * Creating the connection as 'root' is not an option, as this doesn't appear in profile list when signing on as non-root.
    Any ideas on where to look or what to check? As mentioned above, non-root can maintain WiFi connections through NetworkManager just fine, so the problem appears localized to VPN 'secrets'. Also other applications (i.e. Evolution) have no trouble in dealing with authentication.
    I do have polkit installed:
    extra/polkit 0.110-2 [installed]
    Application development toolkit for controlling system-wide privileges
    extra/polkit-kde 0.99.0-2
    Daemon providing a polkit authentication UI for KDE
    extra/polkit-qt 0.103.0-2
    A library that allows developers to access PolicyKit API with a nice Qt-style API
    community/polkit-gnome 0.105-1 [installed]
    PolicyKit integration for the GNOME desktop

    Update/more information on this...
    My typical/preferred setup for my VPNs is to save the VPN group key, but to be prompted for my VPN user password on each connect. So, this is how I was trying to setup in the applet. Interestingly, I have found that if I save BOTH of the 'secrets' to the keyring, then I can connect!
    The behavior is still as above in the dialog -- both secrets are blank if I edit the connection, although they are present in the Gnome keyring. As long as they are BOTH there, I can connect fine. But, if I have either of them set to 'Always Ask', then I am not prompted for them and the connection fails.
    Although I can work with this, I would certainly still like to figure out what is going on and fix it, as it does bother me that it works that way:
    * Why can't the dialog redisplay my secrets when I edit a connection as non-root?
    * Why doesn't Always Ask work to prompt me for secrets when running as non-root?
    Any ideas? I've used the Gnome/NetworkManager/vpnc combination on other desktops (this is my first Arch), and I have never seen anything like this.

    same issue if:

    Digged a bit:

    makes me doubt if this issue is related to the modules not found. Which is the single indication I found so far x-/
    Any light on where can the issue comes from? hardware is pretty much standard even if getting a bit old. Never had Xorg related issue so far on this pancake.

    I can't claim to be expert in solving network problems, but you might start with statistics on your net card. We keep what we got, and when the remote system reconnects, we continue with the same message.

    Hi,
    What is the status of those concurrent requests (Completed with Warning or with Error)?
    1) Do we need to delete any temporary files from server related to printer.Usually, you do not need to delete any files manually, temp files will be created by the application, and there should no issues with the files permissions (unless you have some other instance running on the same node with different applmgr user). However, you can safely clean (.t and .tmp) files as per the following documents.

  • Assertion failure from ccfe in Solaris Studio 12.4 beta July refresh

    I have found a way to get an assertion failure from the ccfe program that comes with the Solaris Studio 12.4 beta July refresh.  The error that gets printed is:
    >> Assertion:   (../lnk/funcsym.cc, line 1679)
        while processing text_woarchive.pre.cpp at line 0.
    The problem occurs whilst compiling Boost 1.54.  The original file in the distribution that causes it is libs/serialization/src/text_woarchive.cpp.
    This problem can be reproduced by getting the pre-processed code I've put on http://pastebin.com/E9vxi2z7 and pasting it into a file called text_woarchive.pre.cpp.  Then run:
    CC -std=c++11 -mt -m64 -c -o text_woarchive.o text_woarchive.pre.cpp
    and you get the assertion failure.
    Running:
    CC '-#' -std=c++11 -mt -m64 -c -o text_woarchive.o text_woarchive.pre.cpp
    shows that the assertion is coming from ccfe.
    In case you go back to the original Boost source code I should tell you that prior to generating the pre-processed source I changed:
    #ifdef __SUNPRO_CC
    to:
    #if 0
    in boost/archive/detail/register_archive.hpp.  I did this because there was an error in the __SUNPRO_CC section and I wondered if that workaround code was no longer required with the more modern C++ compiler.  Therefore, I cannot guarantee that the pre-processed source is 100% valid C++ code.  However, even if it's not it would be nice to get a clear error message out of ccfe rather than an assertion failure.
    In case it's relevant, I'm working on Oracle Solaris 10 1/13 s10x_u11wos_24a X86.

    You mentioned in the other answer that you are testing with Boost 1.55.  Are you testing this in C++11 mode?
    Today I downloaded Boost 1.55 and did the following:
    In both tools/build/v2/engine/build.sh and tools/build/v2/tools/sun.jam globally replace SUNWspro with SolarisStudio12.4-beta_jul14-solaris-x86
    In tools/build/v2/tools/sun.jam replace:
    feature.extend stdlib : sun-stlport ;
    feature.compose <stdlib>sun-stlport
        : <cxxflags>-library=stlport4 <linkflags>-library=stlport4
    with:
    feature.extend stdlib : sun-stlport ;
    feature.compose <stdlib>sun-stlport
        : <cxxflags>-std=c++11 <linkflags>-std=c++11
    Note: This is just the quick way I found to con the Boost build system into using C++11 instead of STLport.  The feature in the jam file still has stlport in its name, but that's only a name and the code is being built in C++11 mode.
    In boost/math/special_functions/detail/lanczos_sse2.hpp change line 15 from:
    #if defined(__GNUC__) || defined(__PGI)
    to:
    #if defined(__GNUC__) || defined(__PGI) || defined(__SUNPRO_CC)
    Run:
    ./bootstrap.sh --without-libraries=context --without-libraries=coroutine --without-libraries=graph_parallel --without-libraries=log --without-libraries=mpi --without-libraries=python --without-libraries=test --without-icu
    Run:
    ./b2 -j4 --layout=versioned --disable-icu address-model=64 threading=multi optimization=speed inlining=full
    At this point the vast majority of the code builds, but does not link.
    There are 3 problems:
    The compilation problem with tuple that you've already fixed
    A linker problem with finding std::string related symbols - maybe also related to the gcc header upgrade and now fixed?
    Numerous compilation problems caused by boost/archive/detail/register_archive.hpp
    For this last one the code in the #ifdef __SUNPRO_CC section of boost/archive/detail/register_archive.hpp does appear to be invalid, and leads to the errors:
    "./boost/archive/detail/register_archive.hpp", line 45: Error: The function "adjust_counter" must have a prototype.
    "./boost/archive/detail/register_archive.hpp", line 46: Error: Expression must have a constant value.
    "./boost/archive/detail/register_archive.hpp", line 47: Error: Expression must have a constant value.
    "./boost/archive/detail/register_archive.hpp", line 48: Error: An integer constant expression is required within the array subscript operator.
    Even with Boost 1.55, attempts to fix this lead to the same ccfe assertion.  Trying to use the #else part of the code as I described in the original post does, as does moving the line:
    char adjust_counter(counter<0>);
    so that it comes before the place where adjust_counter is used also then leads to the same assertion:
    >> Assertion:   (../lnk/funcsym.cc, line 1679)
    It's as though any change to boost/archive/detail/register_archive.hpp that fixes the basic code ordering issue lets ccfe get far enough to cause the assertion.
    If there is somebody in your team looking at whether Boost 1.55 compiles with Solaris Studio 12.4 in C++11 mode then hopefully they can relate to what I'm seeing here.  One key point is that they'll have had to edit the jam files to use C++11 mode.
    The other thing is that any insights the person who has been trying to build Boost 1.55 has would be very useful.  I know you don't want to get into officially supporting it, but maybe a blog post with any unofficial hints and tips on getting Boost to build in C++11 mode could be a way to share knowledge.

  • Boot Failure From Previous Device...

    My computer has been out of commission for over a year now, and I finally bought a new hdd and some ram for it today.
    My mobo says K8T Neo MS-6702 V.1 i'm not sure if that specifies what it is, but I don't have the box anymore.
    I bought a 500gb Barracude from Seagate and jumped it to make it 1.5 and installed everything and when I turned it on I got the message "Boot Failure From Previous Device".
    I tried taking the battery out of the mobo, letting it sit, and putting it back in and turning the system on. Then I set the boot sequence to Floppy, then the hd, and it still gives me the message.
    I'm a completely idiot when it comes to computer problems before the operating system starts, so dumbing it down would be appreciated.
    I've searched the error message and either I couldn't understand what to do, or the problem wasn't like mine.
    I'm basically doing a fresh install of drivers, OS, and everything.
    I start the computer up with the SATA driver in the floppy drive.

     To install a fresh OS you need to have CD/DVD as 1st boot, not floppy, you should not need the SATA/RAID floppy if you are only going to use SATA drive with no RAID.
    If your manual (or if you don't have one) doesn't have instructions for BIOS settings then you can download the PDF version here: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=manual&maincat_no=1&prod_no=588
     To gain access to BIOS when you 1st power up PC start tapping on 'Delete' key.

  • Accessing the Solver AddIn to Excel from LabVIEW

    I would like to be able to set the parameters and run the Solver AddIn in Excel from LabVIEW. I know that from LabVIEW you can install the different AddIn's but is there anyway to access the actual AddIn once it has been installed?

    Hi Karin -
    I believe your answer is ActiveX.
    Briefly, ActiveX allows application a (e.g. LabVIEW) to control application B (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) programmatically. The kicker is that application B must export that functionality to LabVIEW. We ship an example with LabVIEW that controls Excel via ActiveX, it will give you a head start. We do not provide extended support for ActiveX programming simply because there are literally thousands of applications we could control. Microsoft might be able to shed more light with an Excel ActiveX programmer's reference or some relted document.

  • SSL VPN Login failure issue

    Hello,
    I am having an issue with some users trying to login to our SSL VPN (Anyconnect) via ASA5505 8.2(1).  Authentication is done via AD.  From the same computer, the client finds the DNS name and unlocks the login username and password.  When I enter a username and password and click connect, it is instantly rejected with login failure with the following event log:
    Function: ConnectMgr::setPromptAttributes
    File: .\ConnectMgr.cpp
    Line: 2657

    If I change the user account to another user (from the same PC), login works perfectly fine - this is only happening with 3 or 4 users - I have compared the user accounts of a failing account and a successful account and they are identical in AD.
    This has been driving me crazy - as a work around for the failing users, I just created a temporary account which works perfectly fine.  The request doesn't even seem to hit the ASA (there is nothing in the logs that show a failed attempt).  Still troubleshooting and looking at certificate's at this point.  Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!  Thanks.

    Hello,
    If the website is unavailable or in this case, the website is missing several characters(charts, canvas, etc or some other objects), usually could be an issue with the rewrite engine.
    Solution (workaround):
    You may use smart tunnel for this website, so the rewrite engine will not override any content, and it will display the website as it should.
    You can implement it as follow:
    Add a Bookmark

  • Access to VPN and Skype from behind work's firewall

    I'm running a Powerbook G4 with OS 10.4.11. At work I have a very fast ethernet connection perfect for internet and Work (Exchange) email, however I can't seem to access my Uni email account, VPN or several other services, notably Skype or iChat (as I work away from my kids during the week this is vitally important). I can ping the server for the VPN and both sets of IT boffins assure me that all appropriate ports are open. I can access the VPN through PCs and I am at the moment broadcasting the internet through my Airport to a PC based laptop which is running Skype quite happily. I can go to a local pub/coffee shop and access all of the services through a WiFi/Airport Network, and I have access to all these services when I'm at home (again through WiFi). What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hi,
    yes, the spilt into three subnets did help. I now can see the routers also from the LAN which solves Problem A)
    Regarding the access from WAN1 to WAN2 the background is a long story about different flatrates from Provider A and B. To keep it short: DSL is stable but very slow during some hours of the day and attached to WAN2, LTE (4G) is fast but not stable (at least 2-3 hickups per day). Therefore I need the RV042 to keep the LAN clients always online as I need it for my job. The telephone is another issue. The fritzboxes do allow VOIP over their own Internet connection but also using another Fritzbox is possible. I have my telephones connected to the DSL Box (WAN2 = 192.168.179 now) and I have a flatrate for calls to cell phones with my 4G provider (WAN1 = 192.168.178 now). As the 4G keeps failing from time to time it is very annoying when it happens during a telco (and we all know Murphys law). So the ideas is to have the telphones attached to the stable (WAN2) DSL Box and reroute it for calls to cell phones via WAN1 ( which is a feature of the boxes and worked perfectly). If the 4G fails the DSL Box uses its own Internet connection to make the call (but then I have to pay for it).
    So I need access from WAN2 (192.168.179) to WAN1 (192.168.178). I tried a static route in the WAN2 Box but it didn't work (I've used the RV042 WAN interface IP: 192.168.179.100 as Gateway).
    Kind regards
    Klaus

  • [Solved]Wireless works sometimes with networkmanager

    I have posted about a similar problem before (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=49124) and people suggested I unhide the wireless network and use a different program.  I have done that however it fixed little.  I have a broadcom card, and I use the ndiswrapper (which is working well).  I'm trying to connect to a wpa network.
    Networkmanager:
    This is the only way I can get on the internet (so far).  This works about 1/2 the time.  When I have to establish or reestablish a connection it doesn't always work.  When it doesn't work the last line of my daemon log gets stuck on
    <info> Activation (wlan0) Stage 2 of 5 (Device Configure) complete.
    Then I get these lines
    <info> Supplicant state changed: 0
    <info> Activation (wlan0/wireless): association took too long (>20s), failing activation.
    <info> Activation (wlan0) failed for access point (mswebsys)
    In the task bar, when it doesn't work, I see two gray circles (like its trying to connect).  When it works, the bottom circle becomes green, then the top circle becomes green.
    Wicd
    When I try connecting, I get stuck on obtaining ip address and the log reads:
    DHCPDISCOVER on wlan0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8
    then it times out
    Netcfg
    Using this method nothing in ifconfig nor in iwconfig changes.  After about a minute (presumably after a time out) I get an output of association failed.
    My profile
    CONNECTION="wireless"
    INTERFACE=wlan0
    SCAN="yes"
    SECURITY="wpa"
    ESSID="name"
    KEY="secret"
    IP="dhcp"
    TIMEOUT=20
    I'm not sure what to do from here, but I think the problems these 3 programs have are linked.  I think the problem lies with dhcp or/and the wpa supplication because all 3 programs time-out around there.  I switch networks often, so I would prefer not to manually setup wpa_supplication config or spend a lot of time on the command line.  Any help would be appreciated.
    It's a driver problem, if ndiswrapper isn't working, try the b43 driver.  I have been using the b43 driver for the last couple days, and I can easily connect and I stay connected.

    Thanks for the tip, I'm trying to use the b43 driver and so far it seems to work better, but I'll have to test it for a few days to be sure.  Wicd and netcfg still hang on the same spots, but networkmanager works.
    I've also noticed that my access point appears stronger in the drop down menu in networkmanager; however, my neighbors access point is significantly stronger than it used to be (my access point is now only slightly stronger than my neighbor's who live much farther away).  I'm not sure if the proximity of signal strength will cause problems in the future.
    For those with similar problems, I'm using the broadcom card below (from lspci).
    Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 01)
