[solved]weird terminal icon in thunar shorcut side pane.

I don't know why but thunar shows terminal icon on the shortcut side pane.

None of them seem to help me. As you can see, I--like others-- am having a problem with icons in thunar. However, it's not because I don't know how the .gtkrc-2.0 file works or something silly like that. I just did this in Slackware with Awesome wm and it worked fine. I've created a .gtkrc-2.0 in my home directory, I have the include line pointing to .gtkrc-2.0.mine and I have this line:
gtk-icon-theme-name = "icontheme"
Considering that didn't work I installed lxappearance and set the theme from there. Turns out, it actually does work it seems. I can see in firefox that the icon theme is working. Also, some files in Thunar have their proper icons. In the filesystem, my root folder has it's appropriate icon as well. However, every other folder in thunar is just blank. No icon. I'm using Awesome wm. I hope you will see this isn't the same problem everyone else has had with Thunar and gtk icon themes. Hopefully the community does not frown on this post. I've searched, but if there is indeed a thread somewhere that I missed, would someone mind kindly directing me to it? Thank you, and thanks for reading.

Output of starting thunar in terminal. That's always been like that for every linux I've ever had though and it never affected the icons before.
As you can see, the icons are having an effect, but only on certain things. Also, I'm starting awesome with .xinitrc.

[SOLVED] change icons in thunar (XFCE)

Hello all,
Me again. Is there a way to change the icon colors in Thunar? I copied the gnome-wine, gnome-wise, etc. from my Xubuntu test box and copied them to /usr/share/icons. I can see they show up under System Settings, Appearance/Icons. I can even select them, but only the icons on the desktop change colors (call me crazy, but I like the green folder icons). However, the icons in thunar are still the grayish brown standard icons.
Is there a way to have the thunar icons use the XFCE system icons?

in xfce4 (4.8.0.3, the version I am using in ubuntu):
You can do this to chang the icons in thunar and through the xfce desktop
1) Click the main menu (Xfce menu at the bottom-left of the screen)
2) Click Settings -> Appearance
On Appearance dialog:
1) Click Icons tab (or press alt+i)
2) if you have icon themes installed you can selec them (such as Tango)
-- this will change iconds for the entire desktop:
Thunar, Xfce menu, etc
EDIT: I now realize that this was about changing icon colors and the above was already noted in the first post

Thunar mounting/unmounting NTFS drive in the side pane.

Hey ,
Could someone help me to set up Thunar to be able to mount/unmount & browse my NFTS drive "/dev/sda1" "/mnt/HDD" in the side pane?

Keep the quotation marks in the above.
Mounting a disk is trickier because you need to know the mountpoint.
First, when the disk is mounted enter the following terminal command:
df
this will list all mounted devices.
locate the line with your disk and read off the first column. It should look something like
/dev/disk2s2
Unmount the disk. To mount it run
*diskutil mount /dev/disk2s2*

A weird looking icon in notification area.

Hello friends,
I own a Blackberry 9300 and recently I have had this weird looking icon in my notification area. It looks like some sort of sundial (the clock replacement we used when we did not have clocks) with a red star and 1 written before it. Tried every app, message, etc. etc. but to no avail.
I would upload the picture (I have munched the screen using an app), were it not for my knowledge of how to upload pictures on forums.
If anyone has the slighest idea on this, please help!

When clicking the itunes icon on my left side of screen a window pops up and says i need to disable the compatability, I tried to do this from what it prompted me to do, but it still say problem unresolved

I have not been able to access the itunes store for the past month, it has been a long time since I have downloaded/purchased anything, probably around christmas time, but the problem is I click on the itunes store and the grey zebra striped bar just keeps running accross the top indefinitely, one other thing is that when I click on my itunes icon on the left side of my screen a window pops up and tells me to turn off compatibility, so I tried to follow the prompts through the properties from right clicking the itunes icon but after the thing runs its check and i click on make suggested changes, it still says incompatible. I have no idea what to do and this is extremely frustrating, please help!!

Weird track icon appearing in Logic 9

A weird track icon has appeared in my version of Logic 9. It's on several tracks in a current project and I don't know what it is or how it got there (I can't see it in Logic's chart of track icons anyway, and I've certainly not imported any). If I had a Windows PC I'd suspect a virus or something, but I'm assured by a 'Mac genius' in my local Apple Store that I can't possibly have such a thing.
The icon has two elements which look like characters from some '80s computer game, both orange in colour. One looks like two hard drives stacked one on top of the other; the other is in the shape of a downward-pointing arrowhead or fountain pen nib. The background is black. I'd attach an image if I could see how you do that on this web page!

Logic just assigned one of its legacy icons to the track for whatever reason.
Don't worry about it.
If it bothers you, select another icon and move on.

Any ideas on how to set them to white, or use the icon set from the Xubuntu panel?

SOLVED: Elementary Xubuntu icon theme installed, needed to specify "Elementary Xubuntu Dark" vs "Elementary Xubuntu".

You can't actually move stuff freely in XFCE panels; moving only changes the order of things. You have to use separators (which can be invisible and have the option to expand) to get stuff in particular places. I have eight invisible separators on my panel, and the 'Window Buttons' item expands to fill all free space, allowing me to place things on the 'end' of my panel.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

Why do I suddenly have a terminal icon on my dock and can I get rid of it?

Just drag it out of the Dock.

Menu Bar Application Icons Frozen Upper Right Side of Screen

After installing Snow, the right side of the menu bar is frozen. If I move the mouse to the right side, I get the spinning wheel of death. I can use my computer but I cannot use any program or option associated with an icon to the right side of the menu bar. Is there a bug? Thanks

Well, I didn't realise I had that problem until you pointed it out! And when trying to send a mailshot I found my address book was blank.
I used the solution someone posted on the thread linked to above...
Deleted USER>Library>Application Support>SyncServices folder (when I say 'deleted' I mean moved to the desktop until I was sure I wasn't breaking anything!).
I then deleted USER>Library>Application Support>AddressBook
Rebooted. Then went to System Preferences and turned on Mobile Me syncing (the pane now opens fine). This was seen as a first sync and I chose to bring all Mobile Me contacts (and everything else) back onto my machine.
Seems to be working all OK now.
Let's hope that's my last Leopard problem.... (speaking of which, I also lost all my custom Mail Stationery - not for incompatibility reasons it seems as I was able to bring them all forward in Time Machine).

Hi, Tejas5110. Welcome to Microsoft Mobile Community. Can you check what are the applications setup once you go to Settings>locksceen>Choose apps to show quick status? Quick notification icons that are showing up on the lock screen of your phone will depend on what you've setup. We'll wait for your response.

Well in order to keep all the ratings, playcounts ect ect of songs in iTUnes, place the songs back into there original folders/places on the "Old harddrive" by cutting (Not copying) them from the new Harddrive. Now iTunes should report the songs has being there and have ! marks beside the imported folder from your external Harddrive.
Now you will delet the dead/broken links (Or missing music from the new drive)in iTUnes. Goto Ottos site for a script that will remove dead links and other things here

Now with everything in place and the dead links removed you will either consolidate the library or set it to copy to another Folder. If you consolidate it moves ALL your music listed in iTunes to the "iTunes Music" folder and can not be reversed. If you set it to copy, it will just copy music from its current folder to the iTunes music folder. You will have to pick the best option for you but consolidating will work best if your trying to free up space. To consolidate goto "Advanced" and select "Consolidate Library". To copy goto Edit>preferenses>Advanced tab>general sub tab and check "Copy FIles to iTunes music Folder when added to library". THis location is also where you will change the location of iTunes Music folder from your old harddrive to the new one by hitting the "Change" button above the reset button
