[Solved] Where is the gnu time command?

The manpage for the time command mentions a gnu version in /usr/bin/time, which has more options than the built-in shell version does.  To use it, just specify the complete path, but I can't seem to find where the gnu time is installed in Arch.  Is it missing, or do I need to install another package?  Locate time doesn't list anything close, unless it has a different name.

It does not appear to be packaged for Arch, or even actually developed upstream: http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/time/

  • Where is the terminal "last" command getting it's information from?

I searching for the information that the terminal "last" command holds.
When I execute the "last' command...... I am seeing too little to be real..... something is up..... I need to determine when the information was deleted.
What log file is the last command using? In Mt. Lion, in Lion, in Snow Leopard?
    Thanx for your help

For those who are reading this, this is about a Mt. Lion system with current patches 10.8.3
Thank you for the reply and the pointer to the audit directory.
I am continuing to ponder why last at the terminal is given unexpected behavior. I am now noticing the history in last is only for the "last" - no pun intended - 24 hours or there abouts on one of my systems. In the audit directory there are many more entries

I have gone an gotten the source code for last at the BSD project but Im' not a c programmer and apple's version is a branch or so it seems to me cause they've got to be different and I'm not sure where to configure last or how to better understand what I'm seeing.
Anyone care to help me understand what could be going on?

  • Where is the Running Time Indicator?

Where can I find the Running Time as I watch a project? I only see the seconds on each clip but no total running time.
Karsten may have interpreted your question literally. You asked "where can I find the Running Time as I _watch a project_" (underline is my emphasis). I think you may have meant viewing the elapsed time when skimming through and editing your project.
Go to iMovie>Preferences in the Menu and select the General tab. Check (tick) the box labelled "Display time as HH:MM:SS:Frames". Now, from the Menu, select View>Playhead Info. When moving through your project, in the black panel that moves with the playhead, you will see the elapsed time down to the frame level.
Unfortunately, as Karsten reported, the elapsed time does not show up when simply "playing" the project.

  • (SOLVED) where does the xorg server gets the Composite file from?

I'd like to see the list of composite combinations. Seeking on the Internet I understand that the file should be:
    /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose
Where en_US.UTF-8 is my locale, but according to that file:
    <Multi_key> <underscore> <o>         : "ō"   U014D # LATIN SMALL LETTER O WITH MACRON
I should obtain the small letter o with the macro using multi_key underscore and o. Instead I obtain this: º.
    Same problem with the
    <Multi_key> <c> <o>                  : "ǒ"   U01D2 # LATIN SMALL LETTER O WITH CARON
If I press the keys I obtain: ©, the copyright sign...
So... Where does the arch xorg got its Compose file? Change I change its behavior?
    Thanks.

I ignored that is was an application side issue, thanks for explanation. And indeed I was using lxterminal: the terminal emulator of lxde that is based on GTK. Using the xim input system everywhere solved the problem.
People! Listen! Put this two lines in your .xinitrc :
    . /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
    export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
    export QT_IM_MODULE=xim
    exec whatever you use
    Thanks! Cheers!

  • Where did the sleep timer go in IOS 5? It's been changed to "stop playing"

When previously using the sleep timer, I would set a time and then choose for the device to "sleep" at the end of the time. Now the choice has been changed to "Stop Playing." This is a huge problem because it does not sleep the device; it only stops the music from playing. Because the music app continues to run, battery life is profoundly shortened. I verified this at the Genius Bar when I noticed my battery life dropped from several hours per charge to about 1.5 hours. Can a sleep timer be used in some other manner now?

What was the answer when you asked at the Genius Bar?

  • Where did the current-time-line go in Calender?

I can't find the line that says what the current time is in Calender.. Is there any way to put it or get it back in? IMO it was one of the features why Calender was a really good app. It looks like Apple just forgot to put it in... Is this going to be updated.
Should look something like this;(like we had before)

I can’t tell you what’s causing it, but it is working fine here. The line is red and moves with the current time. But it is only visible when you are in the current week. If I move to the prior or next week it won’t show.

  • Where did the 'Sleep Timer' setting go?

I know this seems like a bit of a silly question, BUT:
I frequently fall asleep listening to my iPod. I've had 3 other iPods (1st and 2nd gen) which had sleep timers built in as a function on the menu. I could hook the ipod up to speakers in my bedroom, set the sleep timer, and drift off to music or books. With my new 5th gen iPod, however, I cannot find a sleep timer function anywhere. I purchased an iHome, so I can use the sleep timer function at home, but when I travel I either cannot use the iPod in this way, or have to leave the iPod running (and playing) all night long, which then actually wakes me up from sleep later in the night. Can anyone tell me if there is a sleep timer function on the 5th gen iPods, and if so, how do I activate it?
    thanks

Okay, DUH, I answered my own question. It was under the 'clock' function; I never bothered to set the clock as I was used to having the battery drain problem that occurred when the clock was set on the 1st and 2nd generation iPods. Now I know!

  • [SOLVED] Where's the default xmobar config?

I searched all over the Wiki and the xmobar site and couldn't find it. I wanted to know if there is a default configuration file for xmobar (the one that is used if there is no ~/.xmobarrc). It has the workspaces on the left, the current window title to the right of that, and the date and time (red) + operating system (green) on the right side.
    Thanks

schen wrote:Why don't you just use xmobarrc? Also, it seems it's only configurable with "command-line options" or xmobarrc.
I wanted to see if I could copy what I was already using to make a ~/.xmobarrc and add to it. It turns out that the command line options were being passed in my ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs, so I guess that makes this thread solved...

  • [SOLVED]Where is the place to set program path for root in arch?

The situation is that I use qingy (set up according to wiki) as login manager and kde as desktop. When I use tty6 (agetty) to login (how comes that I cannot login as root, have to login as user and then su) /usr/sbin is in the path for root, but in kde when I su in konsole it is not. That caused me some headache with the latest kernel upgrade, since in kde the kernel will not upgrade properly, I have to do it on tty6. what is the proper way to set paths in arch? I looked at /root/.bashrc and that is almost empty. What obvious things am I missing? Has qingy to do with that problems? Any docs on that for arch? Besides firefox doesn't see any installed plugins, opera does. Plain Centrino laptop here.
    Thanks, signor_rossi

Thanks for the answers. Investigated a little more and it seems it is really qingy what messes things up. Deactivated it and used "startxfce4" to start xfce and "startx" with "exec startkde" in my  .xinitrc to start kde (once I figured out that in Arch "startkde" on command prompt alone does not work ) and voila, the path weirdness is gone in both DEs. Will look again into qingy when I have more time, since it is really nice when using different X setups (laptop on the go or laptop on docking with second display), like the eye candy. I guess I will stick to console now and simply use bash aliases for that purpose.
    Thanks, signor_rossi.

  • Where is the GNU/Linux support?

I was looking for BlackBerry GNU/Linux support as part of our initiative to move to GNU/Linux desktops and found that RIM doesn't support it. Interestingly I have found a third party solution that supports BlackBerrys on GNU/Linux. It looks like that may be our temporary solution until we can phase out the BlackBerrys. I can't believe a company as big as RIM doesn't doesn't support GNU/Linux though.

You mean, for the free Reader? Nowhere; there isn't such a thing. Here is a link link for general support: Contact Customer Care, although experience shows that you get better support in these forums. Only remember that they are user to user forums and no fellow user is under the obligation to reply any question, so you must be prepared to be patient at times, as Test Screen Name says.
