[SOLVED]Who controls LCD blanking?

Hi
I have ASUS k50ij, XFCE is installed as Desktop environment. After 10 minutes of inactivity i got a blank screen. I have disabled XFCE power manager, i have stoped acpid and laptop-mode-tools daemon, but i still get a blank screen after 10 minutes of inactivity. Who controls that actions? How can i change it?

    Who makes LCD's for Apple 23-inch Cinema HD displays? I do not think that Apple has its own factory to produce LCD's. I think that Apple buys LCD's from other companies and puts them into Apple Cinema HD displays.
    I wonder if either Sharp or NEC makes LCD's for Apple. Does anyone know who makes LCD's for Apple 23-inch Cinema HD displays?

    Im using a G5 Duel 2.5. I have been trying to use a 42" LCD that supports 1388x768 resolution. My problem is that resolution is much to small for may audio application. Do you know of any work arounds to force an increase in resolution on the LCD side? Possibly a direct box or software that will shrink the windows and allow more information on the screen..[email protected]

    Hello everyone, I am in a bit of a pickle, and could really use some help.
    My hardware:
    Intel Core i7 920 (Overclocked to 3.9ghz)
    6gb DDR3
    2x Nvidia 285 GTX
    X-Fi Soundcard
    Acer H233H 23" LCD 1080P
    * I did a fresh install Arch x86_64
    * I followed the Beginner's Install Guide
    * I use Xmonad + Xmobar
    The system is in a fresh state with the latest packages and boots perfectly.
    My Problem:
    When I use startx, I get a series of beeps, and then the monitor goes into standby. I can still enter commands in the command line, like sudo halt, or sudo reboot, and even startx again, but the monitor never turns back on. If I change the exec command to xterm (in .xinitrc), x11 starts, and I see xterm, but when I exit, it beeps again and the monitor goes into standby and I cannot see anything, only enter commands blindly.

    I have a suspicion it may be the nvidia driver. So my question is, what are my options? I would very much like to have 3d support for steam, but I also need to be able to use x11... should I file a bug report upstream? with nvidia? is that pointless?

    Fixed it. Seems my xmonad setup was using configs built for i686 and my install was x86_64, recompiling the configs fixed the problem of logging in. I am still getting the beeps and lost signal (to the LCD) when switching tty's or logging out. I'll solve that problem next time though. Thanks!

    I have a problem with qwerty slide keyboard.Today somethnig happens with E75. When I open slide keyboard, LCD will rotate, but it will stay blank and I cant see, what I write. When keyboard close, LCD returns to normal and everithyng, what I wrote before (under blank LCD) will show. This is in every aplications (sms, web browsers, stand by LCD). FW 211.etc (newest) (happens before updating today,I hope,that update solve problem,I expected,that is SW problem). Reset to default did not solve too. Restore from backup the same... No change...
    What is a problem..?
    P.S.: Other aplications will rotate LCD without any problems...

    Of course I tried use code *#7370#,  just without format memory card, but no change. After resetting by this code I tried it, but problem has no change. Are you sure,that formatting card will solve this..? I have too personal data on the card. I can try move it to the pc, and format it,but i am afraid,that this is not the way... In the IT world i am expirienced man, but this..? Please confirm me this... thnx
    P.S.: Folders: Private and Sys on the card are empty. Just Resorce folder has some data...
    Edit: I just tried remove mem card from phone and reset phone by *#7370# code without inserting card into mobile (phone restarts without memory card and its content) By my mind this is way to try if it solve this problem, but bad news, no change...! Any setting has readed from phone only - without mem card, so card could not affects running phone after reset by code *#7370# but nothing solves problem is still on...

  • [WORKAROUND] what controls screen blanking(dpms)?

    Hi fellow archers,
    I run an updated arch on a lenovo x200s with i3wm and no power-manager, except for laptop-mode-tools. Something keeps turning my screen off when I do not touch anything for 5-10 minutes. I have laptop-mode-tools running, but I disabled the dpms-standby module, with no success. I noticed this behavior right after a fresh install - the screen goes off in 5 minutes, and I haven't installed any packages back then, so I am guessing I will have to edit something in /etc. The really annoying thing is that this sometimes happens when I am watching video(if I start watching the video and don't pause it it won't blank the screen, but if I pause and resume, it will).
    I am kindly asking anyone who has a suggestion to say it, even if not sure
    EDIT: The only thing that prevents the timeouts to go back to the default values is to set a systemd timer which runs every 4 minutes and executes xset dpms 0 0 0

    Actually this also does not work consistently. Last night I was watching something, and the screen went off again. I checked the output of 'xset q', and it was back to the default 300/310/320 secs for standby/suspend/off. Now I checked it again and it is 1200/1500/1800, which is strange, because I have not entered these values, and they do not come as a default. I have not installed any DE on this machine ever, so this is not ruins of gnome or xfce taking over power management.
    I really tried to figure out what sets these timeouts, but I have absolutely no idea. I think that this is not a feature, but rather a bug, since it can not be controlled.

  • SOLVED Blurry/Ghosting LCD with Nvidia-96xx

    Hi all,
    I've spent hours trying to figure this out...  I installed the Nvidia-96xx driver for my Geforce2 MX/MX 400 and everything seems ok in my xorg.conf.  XFCE comes up with the right resolution (1280x1024 Dell 1702fp), but everything is blurry.  When i use the Nvidia X Server Settings application, it looks like everything is running correctly - 1280x1024 @ 60hz.  But this doesn't seem right, because otherwise everything wouldn't look so blurry.  And I do mean everything - fonts, icons, etc.
    So I did a bunch of reading and decided to try xrandr.  Well, that seems like a fairly cool command, but it didn't really solve my problem.  However, it did confirm my suspicions that one of these programs is giving me the wrong information, since the only 1280x1024 resolution it gives me is at a 50* 51 refresh rate.  I tried changing the rate with:
    xrandr -r 60
    It wouldn't let me do it.  It says:
    "Rate not available for this size"
    I'm really kind of puzzled about this, I've tried three different ways of generating xorg.conf files (Xorg -configure, xorgconfig, nvidia-xconfig) and they all give me the right resolution, but the wrong refresh rate.  For some reason linux wants to run things at 50hz...
    I'd post more information up here, but I'm not sure what you would want to see.  I'm pretty sure it's not the xorg.conf...

    Apart from the warnings "No modes were requested ..." and "option "UseEDIDfreqs=false" is not used" nothing looks that bad to me.  Any ideas?  This is what I see in xfce:

    I also tried using the gtf output a few times and that didn't work either.  I'm starting to wonder if it's a hardware problem.  Seems kind of subtle for a malfunctioning graphics card though, doesn't it?

  • [Solved]Brightness control doesn`t work anymore

    Hi!
    I`ve made my 3rd update of Arch since installation, and... where previous two succeeded, the third one failed. It messed up my system
    The problem is, i cannot change brightness any more through my function keys (and since i`m using Openbox as my DE, i cannot change it at all ). The brightness now is so low that i can barely see what i am typing. And it is not only in my Arch, it also messed up Windows and everything else: grub, bootup screen where i can select bios properties - everything.  I ran xev and now i see that FN+Right/Left are not detected anymore as brightness keys. It says:

The problem is that the system is completely unusable at this point, since i barely see anything on the monitor, and that sucks

    I can't see what you did in Arch affecting your windows installation at all.  If you try to boot into windows and increase the brightness (since most laptops store the brightness level of the laptop as it was set, on battery, at least my 2 laptops do), does the new brightness level "stick" for all things?  If so, the only issue you have is to re-map the function keys properly, and to configure a script or something to increase/decrease lcd brightness.  You can make a simple script that echoes a value into your /proc/acpi/video/LCD/brightness file (the file path will vary, so it may be under UVGA or so).  If, however, it doesn't increase again, it may very well be a hardware issue, and not a software (since, as I said above, it's highly unlikely that an Arch update has affected Windows in any way).

  • [SOLVED] Login Prompt Vs Blank Screen On Startup

    Hello there,
    Problem:
      - When booting into Arch I am either presented with the Login Prompt (Yay!) or a blank back lit screen (Boo!). The pattern is completely random. I can boot up 2-3 times in a row successfully then go on a streak of blank back lit screens and am forced to constantly reboot until I get it to work (see below):

    Search regarding blank screen turned up this thread, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151240 , which seemed relevant. It led to KMS though not sure exactly what that does even after reading the Wiki so I decided to post here rather than tinker with it and risk making things 100x worse than they already are.
    Any idea as to what could be causing my irregular boot behavior?

    Hmm, that seems to have fixed my problem. 9 successful reboots in a row. Figured with my erratic boot behavior as opposed to 100% blank screening that my problem was far worse when in fact the solution seems to have turned out to be quite simple.  Oopsie. My bad guys.
    Followed these steps to make the changes persistent, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_parameters , and seems to be holding up well. Will go ahead and marked as Solved and hope no more monitor boot problems arise.

  • [SOLVED] Once screen goes blank there's no turning back

    Hello.
    If I let the screensaver to blank my screen, I can't wake it up. The screen doesn't turn off, it just stays blank.
    I tried pressing Ctrl + Alt + Backspace, changing to a console with Ctrl + Alt + F1, F2, etc but nothing. I have to power off the laptop or reboot it.
    If I lock the screen with Ctrl + Alt + l I get the same result.
    I'm not sure what info would you need to diagnose this. Any ideas?

    I think ACPI is not the issue here. I did go into bios to check, but I don't have any options related to ACPI (HP bios )

  • Windows 8.1 Control Panel blank and won't close

    There doesn't seem to be a Windows 8 forum.
    I have seen a lot of people with this issue but no resolution. Surely this is important enough to provide a solution to your users? 
    When I try to open Control Panel it displays as a blank window and hangs. You cannot minimize it or close it. How do I get all my icons back (and use of the Control Panel)?

    When did this issue happen? Contorl panel can function fine in a normal system, something (file system\registry info) might be corrupted in this case. First, please run the follow administrative cmd
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    Meanwhile, please run a AV Scan to eliminste some malware\virus infection.
    If you have a restore point, I also suggest you return the system to a previous state at which everything is still functioning, but please note that you will lost some recent settings (boot into Advanced startup option, then choose restore point).

  • JDev10g Data Control Palette - Blank

    1) I have used jDev10g to follow a tutorial on Struts BC4J ADF JSP
    2) Successfully run the JSP to browse thru the records.
    3) Now the jDev IDE "data control palette" is blank. I can close and re-open using the menu View but the contents of the palette remain blank.
    Of course, a blank data control palette is a problem to me. I can create a new Application and gen new BC4Js and the data control palatte appears with content in the new app.
    I am using OS: Win XP, jDev10g preview 90500 bld 1375.
    Any suggestions/comments? Thanks

    A colleague of mine has the same problem.
    If I am not mistaken, the contents of the Data Control Palette are based on the DataBindings.cpx file, so I suppose a "Refresh" of the Data Control Palette (from its context-menu) would check the DataBindings.cpx file. But a "Refresh" had no result, the Data Control Palette stayed empty.
    Could someone tell us what to check, to enable the Data Control Palette to find all the information it needs to show the data controls?

  • List of ActiveX Controls is blank!

    When I try and add (or change) an ActiveX icon in AW7.02, my
    list of controls is completely blank. It hasn't always been this
    way, but it's probably been 6-8 months since I tried to do this, so
    the answer to the question, "Has anything changed on your system?"
    is, "Yes, lots!"
    Anyone else experience this and have any advice? IE7 lists
    lots of AX controls (and they all still WORK), so I know they're
    still there.
    AX controls that I already had in my projects all still work,
    too. I reinstalled AW7.02, to no avail.

    Is there an utility that would probe an optical disk and print details such as the type of media (blank CD-R, DVD-RW, etc.), capacity (in bytes if possible), max burn speed and so on?

    k3b can give you this information using the Device/Media Info menu function. For complete info you can simulate a write to a blank media, then click on the "Show Debugging Output" button on the bottom of the Burn dialogue, which will display (among a lot of other info) cdrecord's take on the disk, which includes what it's made of (if Phthalocyanine means anything to you) and who made it (ordinarily not the same as the brand name).
    Even if you're not using KDE I highly recommend k3b. Installing it will pull in some dependencies, but I've never had a bad burn from it.
    You can also get this information using a terminal:
    wodim --atip

    The rMBP's ssd is divided into 3 partions in MBR without MAC OSX partition, the boot camp assistant in mac is not used. A user in administrators is created in windows 8 enterprise 64 and this account is used to login into desktop. When clicking boot camp control panel, the startup disk error is showed and the control panel application can not be used.

    I converted current user account in windows 8 from administrator to normal users  group according with google and bootcamp works well. I should adapt to a normal user.
