[Solved] who manages power?

Hello all,
I made a fresh installation on a Thinkpad T420s and wonder about power management.
If I press the powerbutton, machine goes sleeping. But where that behaviour is configured?
1 )   /etc/systemd/logind.conf
all entires are commented out (changig does not change behaviour)
2)  acpid ... /etc/acpi
not installed, does not exist
3) /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/70-power-switch.rules
ACTION=="remove", GOTO="power_switch_end"
SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="event*", SUBSYSTEMS=="acpi", TAG+="power-switch"
SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="event*", KERNELS=="thinkpad_acpi", TAG+="power-switch"
LABEL="power_switch_end"
4) /etc/pm/power.d/
...empty
mmmmh, don't think it is...
But where is it configured?

  • Error in Remote Web Access - "An unexpected error occurred. Please try again. If the problem continues, contact the person who manages your server."

    I have set up the RWA and I can log in to the web console with my server account. However when I click on any of the shared folders I get this error:
    An unexpected error occurred.  Please try again.  If the problem continues, contact the person who manages your server.
    Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this?
    Regards,
    Maciek

    I had this very same issue with one of our customer's servers that was running Windows Server Essentials. I ended up calling Microsoft about the issue. I hope this helps someone. This originally appeared on my blog: http://techspeeder.com/2014/01/14/remote-web-access-error-an-unexpected-error-occurred/
    Troubleshooting Steps:
    1.  We were getting unexpected errors while accessing shared folders remotely
    2.  The tech found IIS handlers were missing
    3.  She went to IIS > server level ( parent level) and added managed handler mapping  :
    Name: svc-Integrated-4.0
    Request path: *.svc
    Executable: System.ServiceModel.Activation.ServiceHttpHandlerFactory, System.ServiceModel.Activation, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35
    4. Added script mapping:
    Name: svc-ISAPI-4.0_64bit
    Request path: *.svc
    Executable: windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_isapi.dll
    Name: svc-ISAPI-4.0_32bit
    Request path: *.svc
    Executable: windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework32\v4.0.30319\aspnet_isapi.dll
    5. Ran IISreset.
    6. We were able to access resources in Remote access, then.

  • Lenovo T60 Strange problems with 'power management/power guage'

    Guys
    Since doing a system update my battery guage keeps displaying a grey guage with 3 - inside and if you run the mouse of the icon it says "Battery Not Installed" then 1 minute later it goes green with 100%. Its so random all i can imagine is that there is a problem with the power mangement software, but i have uninstalled the new version and installed an older version but this again doesnt work
    I have tried to disable the PM driver from device manager and the Atmel TPM device but these do nothing
    I have heard that this was quite common but cant find a solution
    Can anyone help
    Regards
    This was found doing a google search
    I have a strange issue. I have a Lenovo T60 laptop and I am experiencing problems with the power management/power guage.
    It will often show the battery not installed (power gauge is a greyish-white color with dashed lines) or it shows a red X. It does not matter if I am on AC power or on Battery power, it will show the full range of power, battery level, not installed, or an error.
    I have searched Lenovo's site and I seem to remember seeing an FAQ about this, but now that I need it, I cannot find it.
    What can I check or do to stop this? While it is annoying, I am not sure if I am having a battery problem or not. I did check my battery on Lenovo's site to see if it was recalled and it is not.
    I do appreciate any help that any one can give me.

  • [SOLVED]Network Manager dispatcher unexpected unmounting davfs folders

    I have used Network Manager dispatcher to configure automatic mount of cloud storage using  webdav. i have used davfs2 to perform mounting and wrote a script for NM dispatcher.
    If i run /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/10-YandexDisk.sh manualy all works perfect.
    If this script will be executed by NM-dispatcher all will fine(YandexDisk mounts successfully, sycronization - successfully), but after ~10 seconds mount.davfs gets signal 15.
    sudo systemctl status NetworkManager-dispatcher
    NetworkManager-dispatcher.service - Network Manager Script Dispatcher Service

    I solved the problem. Here is a little explanation.
    After NetworkManager establishes network connection, NetworkManager-dispatcher service is started( for ~10 seconds). This service execute /usr/lib/networkmanager/nm-dispatcher.action, which execute scripts in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d. After exiting nm-dispatcher.action mount.davfs process appears in NetworkManager-dispatcher`s CGroup. By default all processes in CGroup must be killed when service stops. To change this behavior I have added KillMode=process to [Service] section of NetworkManager-dispatcher.service file.
    sudo nano /usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager-dispatcher.service
    Here is it`s code now.
    [Unit]
    Description=Network Manager Script Dispatcher Service
    [Service]
    Type=dbus
    BusName=org.freedesktop.nm_dispatcher
    ExecStart=/usr/lib/networkmanager/nm-dispatcher.action
    KillMode=process
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    Alias=dbus-org.freedesktop.nm-dispatcher.service

  • [SOLVED] Display manager, GRUB and NTFS

    Hello people
    Yesterday I spent whole day on installling and configuring my arch but i still have 3 problems.
    1st and most important is GRUB, i wanted to dual boot with windows vista, i have windows vista installed on another partition but now, after i installed arch, it doesnt show on GRUB. How can i solve that problem, i really need it because my family is not using linux.
    2. I cant make the Display manager work, i could install xdm but when i type username and password it redirects to the same xdm. BTW, i followed the documentation from arch's website.
    3. I can not open NTFS partitions, i have installed something called ntfs-3g but didn't help.
    Thanks for help.:)
    Btw, i need a network manager so it will connect to wifi network automatically like in ubuntu or windows, i dont want to do "iwconfig ..." evey time ...

    DSpider wrote:
    There's a wiki on XDM, with a very relevant entry to your problem: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/XD … fter_login
    But why use a display manager at all if you're the only one in your family using Linux? To keep away the plebeians?
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Start_X_at_Boot
    Thank you very much, now i have windows and i dont care about display manager
    I think you're confusing it with a bootloader.
    - A display manager lets you choose a user, and depending on the manager perhaps even a desktop environment (GNOME, KDE, Xfce, etc) or a window manager (Openbox, xmonad, awesome, etc).
    - A bootloader lets you choose which operating system you want to start.
    Yeah, i meant, now, nobody from my family will call me and say "WTF have you done with the computer ", bc i am the only one who uses computer not only for inet. Now, they will use windows:)

  • [SOLVED] Network manager only works as root

    Hello everyone,
    I am brand new to arch and have been quite impressed over the past few days over all it has to offer.  Everything has been running quite smoothly and I am now in the process of setting up wireless.  I installed network manager and was able to connect to a wireless network as root.  For my regular user, however, I am running into some issues.  First one was that the nm-applet could not be opened in fluxbox.  I received the following error:
    ** (nm-applet:1576): WARNING **: <WARN> request_name(): Could not acquire the NetworkManagerUserSettings service.
    Error: (9) Connection ":1.27" is not allowed to own the service "org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings" due to security policies in the configuration file
    I "fixed" this by adding the following to /etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-applet.conf.  Original credit goes to the user in this thread (I only slightly modified his code): https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=63576
    <!-- hack -->
    <policy user="myusername">
    <allow own="org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings"/>
    <allow send_destination="org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings"/>
    <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings"/>
    <deny send_interface="org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerSetting.Secrets"/>
    </policy>
    <!-- end of hack -->
    Now the applet shows up for my regular user, the problem being that it doesn't connect to the wireless networks (only wired).  Whenever I try to connect to wireless, nothing happens (the symbol doesn't change in any way, i.e. the green spheres should start circling); I am still able to succesfully connect to wireless using root.  Does anyone know what the source of this issue may be?  Thank you very much in advance.

    Solved: Had to install consolekit and add "ck-launch-session" to my .xinitrc file when starting fluxbox.
    Edit: Please note that this also allowed me to remove the previous change to nm-applet.conf (no longer necessary)!

  • [SOLVED]Fix gnome-power

    Hi guys,
    i have a problem with the gnome-power. After last update with pacman -Syu (2 weeks ago).
    I see in pacman cache folder that upower got a update from 0.15 -> 0.16
    Later i got the problem. Tried to downgrade but nothing to do. Same problem. I use MATE as DE. It is based on gnome2 if i don't wrong.
    Now sometimes work and sometimes not. Depend of it mood u.u
    I don't have the menu to shutdown when doesn't work. And obviously don't work either the hibernate and the shutdown by acpi calling. Only work with shutdown -h now.
    Someone can help me?
    Thanks, Gabriele.

    Fixed following this:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=141155
    I achieve that is a problem of slim login manager and not of upower.
    Edited xinitrc in home folder from: exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch mate-session
    to: exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session mate-session
    Bye

  • [SOLVED] Display manager

    I am new to Arch. I have installed Arch, X, Mate (as the DE) and Lightdm as the display manager.  Lightdm will only start in X, with the sudo lightdm command. From there, you can get into Mate.
    Mate seems to work just fine. However, it would be nice to be able to boot successfully to a display manager and then into a desktop environment.
    Before Lightdm, I had installed gdm with xfce. Gdm starts up properly but will not properly start either xfce or Mate. Gdm goes to a screen that is akin to the login screen but with nothing else. I just tried slim, which will not start up, either on boot up or from x.
    I am not sure what to post for logs on this. In any event, my computer is an old Dell Dimension 2400, with a pentium 4 processor, intel graphics and 2 gb of memory. I am not sure what log would be helpful here but, if someone could help me with my issue, it would be appreciated.
    My x-0-greeter.log reads:

    Oxyd,
    The current state of things, after removing gdm, slim and reinstalling lightdm, is that nothing has changed. In any event, below is the results of pacman -Qs lightdm:

    Cfr: "Did you test X following the Beginners' Guide?"
    Yes. I tested X. I believe that I followed the Beginner's Guide to the letter. Of course, I am new to Arch, so it is possible I misunderstood something. I believe what I did was to enter the following command to install X: pacman -S xorg-server xorg-server-utils xorg-xinit and then, as provided in the guide, I installed mesa.
    I have, per your suggestion, removed xorg-server-xephyr. I note, however, that the guide for installing lightdm indicates that the package should be installed initially, in order to test to see if lightdm works. In any event, removing it does not alter how the system starts up.
    You are correct that I am starting the computer directly to lightdm - and not starting lightdm from X - but lightdm leaves a blank page, as I noted. I can click around on the blank page and stuff pops up. On looking at Oxyd's suggested outputs, I wonder if my problem is that nearly everything in the configuration file has been commented out.

    I was originally not in the network and networkmanager group but tried adding myself in the course of reading your post, because I thought maybe that could be the reason, but it didn't change anything
    I had to create the networkmanager group because it was not existent but https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Groups#Groups says this group should exist.

  • [SOLVED] Network Manager cannot connect to wifi after suspend

    Hi,
    There appears to be similar threads recently, but they relate to no wifi at all. I did some updates today, and now if I suspend or hibernate, network manager cannot reconnect to my wifi. It will (after a while) ask me to authenticate, but still fails. Nothing works except a reboot where it connects without issue.
    It was fine yesterday, has only started today. Here is my pacman log for today's updates:

    heiko wrote:linux-3.3.2 is released on www.kernel.org and reverts the patch that introduced this problem.
    For those using the arch repo kernel the next release will solve this issue. So I suggest waiting for this (no more than a few days) and use the LTS kernel in the meantime (or using a fixed ath9k module if already built).
    Thanks for that heiko. I thought that would be the case, hence I just waited.
    Will mark this as solved.

  • [SOLVED] Network Manager with iPhone 3G S

    OK, so work got me a shiny new iPhone 3G S today. When I'm being paid to play with it, I'll give it a shot
    Anyway, I've successfully paired the iPhone over bluetooth with Arch on my laptop, which creates the bnep0 network interface. If I run dhcpcd on this interface, the iPhone gives me a DHCP lease in the 192.168.20.x subnet, and after configuring the opendns nameservers, I'm successfully tethered to the iPhone with full network connectivity
    Is there a way I can get Network Manager to do the 'dhcp' and 'nameserver' parts for me? In the nm-applet GUI, there's no option for specifying interfaces or anything just "wired" (eth0) and "wireless" (wlan0) as well as the VPN, 3G etc tabs.
    Also (I know someone wants to mention this), I am already aware that bluetooth is going to be speed limiting, but this connection will generally only be used for SSH sessions back to the office, so I don't really care about that. I'm happy to use bluetooth to reduce the number of cables required - already have external mouse, external hard drive, power supply and serial cable when I'm at a client site, I don't really want a USB cable to the iPhone as well. Unless Network Manager can't do this over bluetooth, but it can over USB, then I'll concede on the extra cable.

    Here's instructions for Ubuntu, I doubt there will be many discrepancies between Ubuntu and Arch though. Just translate the apt-get crap with the appropriate yaourt or pacman command.
    http://undulynoted.net/2009/06/tether-i … -required/
    Ubuntu:
    Why oh why does apple hardware suck so hard with linux. You will get constant disconnects if your phone is more than a few feet away from the computer. But alas, it is still faster than pdanet or iphonemodem2.
    If you are not on a mac congratulations, you have had fewer headaches.
    Open the terminal and type:
    sudo apt-get install blueman bluez-compat
    This will remove wcid which hopefully isn't a problem for most of you.
    It will ask you to restart, please do.
    Once Ubuntu is back up click on your bluetooth icon in the upper right (which is now managed by blueman)
    IMPORTANT: Right click on the bluetooth icon and choose local services. Make sure to click the radio box that says "Network manager" instead of "blueman" under the network pane. This will allow Network Manager to take over the controlling of your connection (which is good). REBOOT AFTER THIS STEP!
    Go to the bluetooth settings in your iphone (Settings > General > Bluetooth) and make sure they are on.
    Hit the search button in blueman and you should see your iphone after a few seconds.
    WARNING: This is where it gets flaky on the macbook pro. Best results I have has is to highlight the phone in blueman and hit "Bond"
    Choose to auto generate a pass on the next option. Next. Now wait for the iPhone to ask you to type in the passphrase. Type in the 4 digit one that blueman gives you. VERY IMPORTANT. While they are joining eachother keep you eye on the computer. It will ask you if you always want to trust the iPhone (device name). Hit Always or else you will have trouble.
    Always initiate the connection from the iPhone. In the bluetooth settings on the iphone you will now see your computer name listed and the words "not conencted" next to it. Click it. Wait a few and it will hopefully say connected. Look back to blueman and you will now see status bars on the iphone. Right click on your iphone in blueman. Choose "Setup". Network access point is click by default so just hit "Next".
    Now head over to Network Manager and you should see "Auto benp0″. Click it to connect and give it a few to generate an IP. DONE enjoy surfing the internet through your data plan without jailbreaking. I have noticed quite a few speed gains over pdanet. Also, i noticed I got better results when i used openDNS's servers (208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222).
    If you have done everything correctly and Network Manager won't take over the connection of you can see it and it says "not managed" or something of the sort you need to check out the following:
    Open terminal and type: sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces
    see if you have bnep0 located there. if you do, comment out or delete that line. and reboot your machine.

  • How do you manage power with Openbox on laptop?

    What do you use to check the battery power with Openbox. On other distros, there is generally a popup when the battery has reached a low level.
    I would like to know how other people manage it. Do you try to reproduce other distro's behavior?

    For the extra lazy you could always just use xfce4-power-manager and some kind of taskbar with a tray.  Though I think this kind of goes against the whole idea of setting things up in manually in a customized way.
    I use i3, and the default i3status (the program that feeds info the i3bar) has an option for battery levels.  I made it so that it turns blood red when I get to a certain percentage.  In terms of a total WM agnostic solution, you could always just have a cronjob run a script that checks the level, then throws up an xdialog box telling you about low battery levels, and then even have it shutdown/hibernate/suspend at a certain level.

  • [SOLVED]Login manager in KDE 4.3 does not work!

    This is a fresh install (just two days old and installed KDEbase just yesterday), and almost everything is working like a charm the only glitch I have experienced till now is that the login manager module in System Settings is not working as it should be. When I click on its button I know that it should normally ask me for my password but it does not do that and therefore when it opens up all the settings are greyed out and thus unchangable . Is this a bug or am I missing something (Anyone else experienced this!)?
    Also, although not related to this topic, can somebody tell me where to find the setting for making windows shift to different workspace while dragging them through the edges of the screen. I'm sure I found this setting under Window Behavior>Window Behavior module in Kubuntu but it is nowhere to be found on the Arch KDE.

    As nobody answered this question, I guess I'll just mark this thread as solved as even after a lot of search I'm unable to find the preference and so none of the arch users here know about it as well. I think that feature was kubuntu specific and as Arch ships vanilla KDE I think its useless trying to find it here.
    Anyways thanks for the help guys

  • [SOLVED]Modem-manager won't start with Network manager

    Hi,
    I have a problem with getting modem-manager work under gnome. After first Arch install to this laptop, Network manager didn't show my 3G-modem, so I installed modem-manager and usb_modeswitch. Modem is Huawei E367 and it works well with wvdial. Only problem is to get it working with Network manager.
    From output of dmesg I see that there is an error, when Network manager is trying to start modem-manager:
    [ 3224.705193] do_trap: 322 callbacks suppressed
    [ 3224.705198] modem-manager[3112] trap int3 ip:7ff7baab4143 sp:7fff996e62b0 error:0

    From /var/log/messages.log I found also something:
    Apr 14 16:02:14 localhost NetworkManager[713]: <info> trying to start the modem manager...
    Apr 14 16:02:14 localhost dbus[651]: [system] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.ModemManager' (using servicehelper)

    Apr 14 16:02:14 localhost NetworkManager[713]: <info> the modem manager disappeared
    If I try to run modem-manager manually with debug:
    $ sudo modem-manager --debug
    ** ERROR **: libhal_ctx_init() failed: (null)
    Make sure the hal daemon is running?
    So it seems to be because of hal isn't running, if I try to start hal daemon it fails:
    $ sudo /etc/rc.d/hal start
    :: Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer [FAIL]
    I also tried to start hal at boot by putting it to DAEMONS in rc.conf. but didn't start either.
    The laptop is Asus X61SL with x86_64 version of ArchLinux.
    Kernel: 3.3.1-1-ARCH
    Would be cool if anyone can solve this.

    It didn't help. Network manager doesn't show anything related 3G.
    I don't think it's usb_modeswitch since 3G stick works great with wvdial on same system. Could it be a bug on modem-manager?
    I start only the Network manager on boot, but while Network manager tries to start modem-manager, it throws error continuously in dmesg. Error is the same as in first post.
