[solved] wine-mono in the repos

1. There already is wine-mono package in the AUR https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/wine-mono/. Is it OK to have a package by the same name https://www.archlinux.org/packages/mult … wine-mono/ in the repos?
2. Is the package in the repos maintained or not? https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … wine-mono/ says it's orphaned.

I've just received an e-mail that said
heftig deleted "wine-mono"
and wine-mono in the repos has a maintainer - Jan Steffens (heftig) - so all is well :-)

  • [SOLVED] Wine is missing from the repos

Hi fellows, recently I have installed wine in a computer, just a week later I tried to install it on another and it's missing from the repos.
wine-mono and winetricks are still there, though.

I'm not sure why you would think that. -Syu updates the packages already installed, it won't install new packages -- unless an updated package requires one, of course.

If you add a new repo it updates the sync database.  From there you install from the new repo.

  • Wine-mono installation problem.

On starting of winecfg, the error pops that "Mono is not found and to run .net applications it is needed", I clicked on 'install' but the download doesn't progress, it's stucked like forever (~35-40 minutes) and no, my internet is not slow.
Is there anyway I can download wine-mono manually and install it ? I did tried wine-mono from sourceforge but the download speed is very poor (like 2 to 5 Kbps). Tried different mirrors too, same result. Is there anyother place from where i can get latest wine-mono ?

Not sure what you mean. Did you install the package from the repos https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?sort=&q=wine-mono ?

  • [SOLVED]Wine and nvidia-96xx

Hi. Just switched to arch from Debian, loving it so far. First major problem I ran into is, of course, wine related.
Trying to get Diablo 2 running in wine. I have an ancient nVidia Geforce 4 Ti 4800 card in my machine, because I couldn't get my (slightly newer, but still ancient) ATI Radeon X1650 running in Debian. Had no problem with the nVidia card on Debian with the same wine version.
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 96.43.14, but this NVIDIA driver
component has version 190.42. Please make sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA
driver components have the same version.
I've browsed the repos and AUR looking for a legacy version of lib32-nvidia, googled some, but no solution as yet. Am I going to have to go with open source drivers or build my own drivers, or is there a nice simple solution to this?
    Oh, almost forgot, I'm running 2.6.31-ARCH x86_64.
EDIT: Solved this. Made a lib32-nvidia-utils-96xx which I uploaded to AUR if anyone else needs it.

Cracked it. For whatever ridiculous reason, wine didn't want to run apps off my other hard drive, whether I symlinked the D2 dir or mounted it. Copying Diablo 2 to the drive where I have arch installed solved the problem. Guess I'll file a bug with wine. Now to erase Debian from my life (well, almost, it's still running on my server ). Thanks for all the help guys!

The Aur doesn't really help either.

Same problem here. Did you also get this message when installing IE6?
~/.ies4linux/downloads/ie6/EN-US/SETUPW95.CAB: No such file or directory
I looked for SETUPW95.CAB somewhere else and dropped it in ~/.ies4linux/downloads/ie6/EN-US. After that, I get:
    IEs4Linux installations finished!
    To run your IEs, type:
    ie6
When, after a succesful install, running IE6 as 'ie6', everything just works fine (so far).
EDIT: Unfortunately, I only succeed to start IE6 once. After I close the Wine-application, the terminal hangs and, according to ps, the instance remains open. After closing it the hard way I am not able to start IE anymore, a reinstall using the ies4linux-script is necessary.

  • How to solve Audition CS6 error "The amount of audio to burn will not fit on the CD........."?

I have a brand new PC that is MORE than adequate. I have once succeeded in burning a CD after learning all about time tracks and merging them. (made a few with only ONE track)
    Two things:
    1) I find that I must add a CD marker at the end of the WAV because Audition CS6 erases whatever is the last CD marker I've made. Very frustrating but now I know I have to do this but I have no idea WHY!!
    2) Right now I have a WAV that is just over 1 hour and 3 minutes with a total of 637.74MB of info. When I try to export/burn a CD, I get an error message stating "The amount of audio to burn will not fit.......".  I am using TDK 700MB blanks with a Pioneer Blu-ray burner.
    Obviously it will fit.
What am I doing wrong, all of a sudden?

    Hey ryclark,
Thanks for responding. Something else is going on here.....
    Here's what I re-replied to our friend...
    Thanks for the response.
When I built this computer last Nov/Dec, it was built with the second
fastest Intel 7i, quad-core chipset on an 64-bit ASUS motherboard. It's  running
Win 7 Pro. It has a 500GB SSD "C" drive with another 14 TB of true hard
drive space. It is set up with 64 bit. I had been using Audition CS3 for  many
years and even go back to it's origin: Cool Edit and Cool Edit Pro. My
learning curve was minimal, sans the CD burning, which I used other software
for  which is now antiquated, so I need Audition for this. Between this and
IZotope 3 I've repaired and improved many a recording. All-in-all extremely
    useful software.
As for the idea "to burn it anyway", well the error message comes up and
that's it - if I "X" out of that message and try to burn again the message
comes  back  - so Audition will not let me. It is convinced that this file is
longer than it really is, but only when I add track  marks to it!
    There are only 11 tracks.
I was able to burn a CD of this same file but without all the track marks,
so the same exact file length/size will burn, only as the one track.
I've also succeeded in burning other WAV's , both greater and smaller, with
and without multiple track marks, without issue. Of course all with less
    than the CD's max. capacity.
This problem seems to be with this one file. I've even  re-made/re-recorded
the file from scratch with no change. There's something else  going on here
that I can't put my finger on. (I am "recording" LP's and making  personal
    CDs of them)
Also, only from time to time, I have another error after burning a CD that
states it could not verify the CD. For this I assume it is the blank rather
than AA? The first might burn without issue and with the second burn I
get the error. It is near the end of a stack of blanks, so.....
As for the need to "mark the end" of the file makes a lot of sense but of
all the other CD track-marking software I've used, none needed one to do
this,  but this IS Adobe after all.
You'd think there might be a smidge of intuitiveness with Adobe, but maybe
    not.

  • [solved]Wine font rendering + libmpg123 question

Not sure how to describe the problem, so please refer to screenshot below. I have the MS font package installed. I've modified the registry according to the wine wiki article. I tried symlinking my ttf fonts directory to the .wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts directory. I have even tried copying the entire ttf directly into the .wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts directory. I still cannot read anything. As you can see from the screenshot, the Tahoma font example shows up clearly, but nothing else is legible. What can I do to get to the bottom of this?
Additionally, I get this error when I invoke wine.
err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"winemp3.acm": libmpg123.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Is this related to my issue? I thought libmpg123 only affected mp3 support. Is it necessary to have libmpg123? I assumed it wasn't since it's not in any of the repos.
Last edited by drtoki (2009-09-09 20:04:22)

i get the same 'winemp3' stuff.
Wine now uses external 'libmpg123' for mp3 decoding. (patent issues)
maybe the arch devs need to add '--without-libmpg123' in the build, to fix this.
    http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t … =libmpg123
    regarding the fonts, try;
    Installing 'ttf-ms-fonts' and 'ttf-tahoma'
    link the installed Truetype fonts to wine;
    # ln -s /usr/share/fonts/TTF /usr/share/wine/fonts
btw Wine is starting to use alot of external native nix packages now, which is a good thing. (i.e. ms fonts, decoders ect..)

  • [SOLVED]Wine 100% cpu usage in some games

I'm using wine for almost 2yrs now, only to play counterstrike which it runs flawlessly. I today installed nfs undercover and it seems that cpu usage is always 100%(due to nfs.exe). From the nvidia control center I can see that the gpu temp is really low from which I can guess that the gpu is underutilized and so the game runs sluggishly. As I dont game that much in wine, I'm asking u guys that Is it supposed to be like this? or are there any tweaks?

Soumyadeep wrote:thank u guys for ur replies, I guess wine is not ready yet for hardcore games but does a good job with wow, cs etc, marking this as solved.
Generally it is though. What's a 'hardcore' game? I play HoN through wine (long story) and I know that big resource hog NWN2 ran just the same FPS in wine as on the windows install. Those are even DirectX games, the extra cost of DirectX->OpenGL conversion is offset by the fact that you don't have to run a virus scanner and all those junk apps a typical windows install needs.
IMO wine is made for games of all kind. Now if only it worked better with Office and the Adobe apps....

  • [solved] WINE+Diablo 2+Noveau with Mesa 8.0.2 not working

    Hi all,
I just installed arch on my old barebone which has an NVidia GF4 Ti 4400.
I am aware that 3D support for older chips like my NV24 is more limited than for newer cards (e.g. 9800GT).
    The strange thing here:
Diablo2 launched via WINE stopped working.
3D acceleration is fine in place as I can tell both from the output of glxinfo and Urban Assault running blazingly fast:
    OpenGL vendor string: Nouveau
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI nv25 x86/MMX+/3DNow!+/SSE
OpenGL version string: 1.2 Mesa 8.0.2
Launching Diablo 2 causes an unhandled exception and I suspect Noveau being the problem here.
At least the error message sounds like this:
    ..games\diablo2\Game.exe: nv20_state_fb.c:50: get_rt_format: Assertion `0' failed.
As Diablo 2 worked fine on the same box several days before when I had Trisquel installed (older Noveau / WINE version though) there seems to be a regression bug.
Has anyone experienced similar behaviour running Noveau on older GeForce cards ?
    Thanks,
    D$
    Last edited by Darksoul71 (2012-05-10 09:47:44)

Hm, and a bug report should be filled with more than just an educated guess, no ?
I asked here for someone else to step in because I just recently switched back from Trisquel to arch on my "tinker box".
So we talk here about at least four components which have changed:
    - Xorg
    - Noveau plus Mesa stack
    - WINE
    - Kernel
Hard to tell what causes the issue. My guess is that something in Noveau changed between 7.11 and 8.0 but only one with a similar GPU following the arch's rolling updates for a longer period can really evaluate this issues. My bug report would be pointless and just filled with speculations. Not very worthwile for the noveau devs to read. Esp. since they should and will rather concentrate on newer cards than old, legacy stuff as my GF4 4400, I guess
    Edit:
According to the Noveau wiki (http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MesaDrivers) one should not file bug reports at all for this driver:
    nouveau_vieux (NV04 - NV20)
nouveau_vieux_dri.so is a classic Mesa DRI driver, and not a Gallium3D driver, because these cards do not have enough shader capabilities to reasonably support the Gallium3D infrastructure.
Do not file bug reports about this driver.
Hm, so my guess is that I simply can wait if a newer version of Mesa fixes the issue.
Edit: I added solved to the topic. Mainly not because the issue itself is solved but because of the facts that this is "only" my scrap system which I hardly would use for WINE gaming anyway and secondly because the issues is either really solved but a future version of nouveau or will never go away.

  • [SOLVED] Having Issues with the Nouveau Driver and ACPI

    Hello,
Trying to set up an old laptop I have with Arch and I'm having issues getting X up and running. My graphics chip is:
01:00.0 VGA compatable controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 Go] (rev b2)
I've installed xf86-video-nouveau and get the following error when starting X:
(EE) [drm] failed to open device
    (EE) No devices detected.
From what I understand, I need the nouveau-drm package installed, which no longer exists in the repos. The nouveau-drm-lts package gives dependency errors:
warning: cannot resolve "kernel26-lts>=2.6.32", a dependency of "nouveau-drm-lts"
warning: cannot resolve "kernel26-lts<2.6.33", a dependency of "nouveau-drm-lts"
Seems this is because those packages are no longer named "kernel" but "linux" instead.
I've also tried using the proprietary nvidia driver, but I need the legacy 93xx driver, which the nvidia page in the Arch Wiki states it does not support Xorg 1.11.

Seems the important line here is:
[ 52.076] [drm] failed to load kernel module "nouveau"
    "modprobe nouveau" gives:
ERROR: could not insert 'wmi': No such device
Don't remember getting that error before. Nouveau would load fine.

I'm not sure I understand the question, is the message tone going more then once?

Some people have found this does not stop the repeat miessage tone,
if you are one of those then I suggest you contact Apple:

They may not respond, but hopefully will fix in uodate if enough people complain.

my new macbook pro is giving me hardtime. even apple team is not being to solve it. they replace the motherboard first it didn't work. second time they formatted the computer and that also didn't work. every time my mac showing different problems.
At first my computer had issues. Once it go to sleep it will not back again. I dropped my laptop at apple store to fix it. After 10  days they returned my laptop saying they were no able to fix the problem so they replaced motherboard aiming if that might help. Acttually that didn't help.I had same issue again. I visited apple store again. This time they said they could fix, if I will allow them to format the harddrive. I said ok. They formatted it. It was working fine for few daysAfter few days compter is taking.even more than 15 min to shutdown. Now computer has another problem. It is being hang frequently like every 20'to.30 min.
I don't know what to do? I still have one month left on first year warranty. I have requested couple times to apple associates either to fix or replace or refund. They are showing me rude behavior. They are not understanding my situation. I am a student. I need to do lot of home work. Since last three month my mac book and apple associates giving me hard time. Any suggestions are welcome.

Contact Apple Customer Care - not Apple Care - Customer Support. Have your receipts handy and/or case numbers. Be patient, be calm, and tell your story just as you have here. I get the sense you are not in the US and don't have access to an Apple Store but are going to an independent shop. This makes using Customer Support all the more important. If phoning isn't viable, use registered mail.
Since time is running short, be prepared to purchase AppleCare to exennd your warranty 2 more years. Yes, you shouldn't have to do this, but it gives you added protection and more opportunities over the next 2 years to claim a replacement computer if you don't get one immediately. After dealing with a similar unhappy situation with a Mac in the late 1990s I finally got a replacement computer and reimbursed for the AppleCare policy.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • [SOLVED] WINE has no more support for xinput?

Short version: WINE programs no longer have pressure sensitivity. Tablet works fine in non-WINE programs like GIMP.
I hope this falls under multimedia because my Windows graphics programs (Artrage, Photoshop) don't have pressure sensitivity any more. I've checked with GIMP and Xournal, xinput works fine there, though they are drastically less sensitive than their Windows counterparts (unfortunately). Unless there's a patch that makes GIMP understand more than 256 levels of pressure, I think I'll stick to photoshop.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone out there is experiencing the same thing (I'm using a Wacom Tablet, though I do have that newish 12WX cintiq). I definitely was using Photoshop and Artrage through WINE perfectly before, pressure sensitivity and even tilt was great.
But now, I have no idea what happened. Is there something wrong with the WINE configuration, you think? Or is it my best bet just to downgrade WINE or update the linuxwacom drivers (to the beta)?
    Thanks in advance,
    feminaexlux
PS. WINE is 1.1.5, Linuxwacom is 8.0.3

Guess it was a wine bug. Compiled Wine 1.1.4 from source, and things are now working as they should.
    I hate regression!
