[SOLVED] winetricks arch64

Hello all,
recently installed Arch64 (new to 64bit), and would now like to install winetricks so I can install vbrun and direct x to play some games, namely RIFT.
I can install winetricks, however when I run it form the terminal (can't find the menu option under XFCE), I am not getting a window that I'm used to seeing, I get a window with the following options:
( )  View Help
( )  Install and App
( )  Install a Benchmark
( )  Install a game
( )  Select the default wineprefix
( )  Enable Silent install
( )  Show Broken apps (e.g. those with DRM problems)
I looked under install an app and don't see any of the packages that I'm used to seeing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think what you're looking for will be under "Select the default wineprefix" and "Install windows components/DLLs" but I'd recommend that you take a read of the sections of https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wine about 64bit wine if you haven't already as you may need a 32bit wineprefix to get stuff to run correctly.

  • [SOLVED] Arch64, Opera and plugins library problem

    I have Arch64 with Opera 64-bit as default browser. I have succesfully installed 32-bit flashplugin and it works nicely. The only problem is that fonts cannot be read from the flash player context menu and Open File dialog opened from flash player. The problem is that flashplugin tries to load 64-bit GTK from /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/ and it fails. 32-bit version is installed and it's located in /opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/.
    Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libmurrine.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

    Also I have library loading problem with totem-plugin. It cannot find libxul.so and libxpcom.so, but both library files are located in /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.1/. The plugin loads fine if I create links to both files in /usr/lib/. But that doesn't seem like right solution to me.

    I think that symbolic links and moving files are not the most elegant way to solve the problem. Maybe some environment variable or some configuration setting would solve the problem (LDPATH comes to mind, but it seems that it doesn't work).

    I have solved my problem and I will post my solution because it can be usefull to others.
    First the problem with flashplugin and GTK library path. Opera uses operapluginwrapper scirpt to detect if the plugin is 32-bit or 64-bit and after detection it uses operapluiginwrapper-ia32-linux for 32-bit or operapluginwrapper-native for 64-bit plugins. operapluiginwrapper-ia32-linux loads the 32-bit flashplugin in my case which requires GTK, but it incorectly tries to load it form /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/ where 64-bit version of GTK resides.
    The solution is to set the GTK_PATH environment variable to point to /opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/ where 32-bit version resides. But if you set it globaly it will result in problems with other 64-bit applications. So the correct solution is to add following lines on the bottom of the operapluginwrapper script above the exec line:

    In this way the 32-bit paths will be active only for operapluginwrapper-ia32-linux process.
    I have solved the other problem with totem-plugin requesting libxul.so and libxpcom.so, but the solution idoesn't matter because, although totem-plugin loads coreclty it doesn't work in opera. I have installed mplayer-plugin which works as it should. Also gecko-mediaplayer works correctly with opera, I have tested them both. Install one of the two plugins that work, and you will be fine.

  • Arch64 sometimes "forgets" sound card in ALSA [solved]

    Hi all,
    in order to some other issues with my firstly installed SB Live soundcard (disturbing sounds when nothing is played back) I played around with two other soundcards. One was a Soundblaster USB MP3+ and the other one a C-Media card based on the CM8738 chip.
    Since I am using ALSA I was using the wiki guide to set up the cards:

    Loading and storing the mixer level works normally fine but sometimes after a reboot arch seems to forget the default soundcard used at this time. The ALSA mixer within gnome simply shows my ATI R600 HDMI as "soundcard".
    Similar to this is the output of aplay -l

    snd_hda_codec is the driver used for my ATI HDA audio codec integrated on the mainboard. snd_cmipci is the driver for the C-media card.
    But somehow the module isn't even correctly loaded although I added it to the modules inside the rc.conf (soundcard driver before oss module).
    In dmesg I see no problems indicated and lspci lists my card fine. The strange thing is that I experienced this for all three soundcards I used in the last two days which are in order
    1) Soundblaster Live 5.1 (emu10k1 chip)
    2) Soundblaster USB MP3+
    3) CMedia card
    I modified the rc.conf and modprobe.conf after changing the "default" card each time.
    Has anyone of you experienced similar problems ?

    Hm, I solved this now myself although I am unshure what the problem was.
    According to the output of ls -l /sys/module/snd/holders all my sound cards were properly detected and the corresponding modules were load correctly.
    But if this was true then why didn't the soundcards didn't show up in the alsa or gnome mixer as selectable devices ?
    1st I removed every reference to a soundcard driver in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    2nd I changed my rc.conf like this:
    MODULES=(snd_cmipci radeon snd-pcm-oss !snd_hda_codec !snd_hda_intel)
    I explicitely blacklisted my onboard soundcard and the sound module of the ATI HDMI output. Et voilà:
    My CMedia card shows up correctly in the mixer.
    If I have some time at weekend I will crosscheck back with my Soundblaster USB MP3+.

  • [solved] Missing 1G Memory, arch64. How to find back?

    It was a bios issue.
    After flashing the bios to 1.1o, free -m reports satisfactory 3879m memory
    the acer flashtool supports Vista and Dos.
    It seems a piece of common knowledge that Arch64 supports 4G + memory, and I have no doubt of that.
    But I still have 1G memory missing after switching to Arch64.
    Probably reserved for the video, which shares up to 1G mem? 
    The laptop is an acer aspire 5735, with 4G mem, and intel 4500MHD 
    Someone could do diagnosis for the machine?
    I've spent some time searching  without getting solid answers.

    It says the "extended memory"  is 4g, but unfortunately metions nothing about Remapping.

  • [SOLVED] WoW and arch64 bit

    Hello all,
    I've successfully ran WoW in Arch32, and I've recently upgraded my rig to and installed Arch64.  I followed the wiki in installing wine, including the 32bit libraries.
    I used the same install of WoW, an when i run it:
    WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/mnt/gamedata/games/.win32-wow wine wow.exe -opengl
    I went the login page, entered my WoW credentials and I get a message:
    "There was an error logging in.  Please try again later..."
    I copied my WoW directory to my windows partition and rebooted.
    This time I booted into windows 7 64bit, and launched WoW.  Logged into Wow and was able to play just fine.
    Any idea why I can't run it on Arch64?

  • [SOLVED]How to use pulseaudio with in 32 bit chroot on ARch64

    I am trying to running some 32bit software from chroot environment on Arch64.
    I set up pulseaudio on Arch64 property.
    However, within 32 bit chroot, I cannot use pulseaudio.
    For an example,
    arch32 chroot /home/xxxx/Audio > paplay Front_Center.wav
    Connection failure: Connection refused
    How can I fix this?

    I made this to work by the following steps:
    1. Install pulseaudio and alsa-plugin stuff in Arch32;
    2. Edit /etc/pulse/default.pa on Arch64 and enable "load-module module-native-protocol-tcp";
    3. Edit /etc/rc.d/pulseaudio and add a line "cp /var/run/pulse/.pulse-cookie /opt/arch32/etc/pulse-cookie" after pulseaudio line in 'start' part;
    4. Add some lines in /etc/hosts.allow on Arch64 (some of them may not be necessary) ;
    pulseaudio-native: 127.0.0.1
    pulseaudio-simple: 127.0.0.1
    pulseaudio-cli: 127.0.0.1
    pulseaudio-http: 127.0.0.1
    esound: 127.0.0.1
    5. Follow the "PulseAudio over Network" in Arch Wiki on Pulse audio http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pul … er_network and configure my Arch32 as a remote client on the network while setting the server address as 127.0.0.1;
    6. Restart Pulseaudio daemon on Arch64 and Run "paplay" on Arch32 to test.

    Hey guys, I'll get right to the point.
    I need to run a 32 bit JVM for certain situations on this machine due to a bug with the 64 bit JRE on Linux (not Arch related).
    I have tried to install the "jre-6u16-linux-i586" binary file - which did not work ("failed to extract") until after I installed the bin32-jre package from the AUR - on the official Java website. After that originally didn't work I tried using the AUR to install bin32-jre but now whenever I try to use either one of the two I get the following exception:

    After that first happened with the bin32-jre, I tried to install the authentic Java package (again) and it extracted and installed properly (unlike the other times) but still gives me the exact same (same paths and everything) exception whenever I try to use it.

    As a last resort, I installed a bundled 32 bit system and installed JRE via pacman inside the system (I made sure to chroot inside of it). Pacman installed the 64 bit version of the JRE and now I'm getting an UnsatisfiedLinkError whenever I try to use java because it's looking for 32-bit binaries that aren't there (there's an amd64 folder instead of an i386 one that it's looking for).
    Here's the error I'm getting within the bundled 32 bit system:

    Solved it by adding the 32 bit VM to my PATH inside the chroot. Much thanks to derrida and jelly12gen for the assistance via IRC.
    Execute this command as root inside the bundled 32 bit system chroot:
    export PATH="opt/java/bin:$PATH"
    I was unable to get it to work inside the 64 bit installation, but running it inside the chroot works just fine.

    The chroot has its own /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow, so yes, you need to recreate the user there. It would be kind of silly if the chroot used the same config files as the real /, wouldn't it
    And if you recreate that user, you'll probably want to copy over your real .bashrc and make a slight modification to the PS1 line.

    Have been running Lightzone (32 bit application) from AUR on my Arch64 system with no problem.  Sometime ago Lightzone stopped running (wont't even start).

    My (very) limited understanding tells me that Lightzone can't find the 32 bit version of "libXi.so.6".  Am I right ?

    Cna you provide some more precise details on the setup you had when this was working? The subVIs in the VI you attached that deal with excel do not seem to be part of the Report Generation Toolkit, which is what contains all the VIs that deal with excel. I have included a link to an example that shows how to run a macro in excel from LabVIEW. Does this example look similar to what you had implemented in this code at some point?

  • [Solved] Can't boot new arch64 installation

    I'm trying to give arch64 a go, I've installed it but I can't boot it.
    I used the ftp install CD and went about the installation as though I would with arch32. Everything seem to install but on booting grub loaded the kernel and
    Decompressing Linux...
    Booting kernel...
    is output to the screen then this single line is output:
    kernel direct mapping tables up to 100000000 @ 8000 - 8000
    and then it hangs. I then tried the install according to the arch64 installation page on the wiki, but used the ftp install iso as the 'host' rather than ubuntu or gentoo. No difference.
    The machine is an AMD Athlon 64 2800; socket 754; newcastle core.
    In fact full hardware specs are here, its the first machine listed.
    I can boot the system using the kernel on the install CD, but I can't do much with it because the modules won't load, I expect because of the kernel on the CD is a different version to the one installed on the hdd.
    How can I fix it?

  • [SOLVED]Upgrade to Arch64?

    I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade to Arch64 without a reinstall. Now, if the upgrade is going to be harder than a reinstall I won't do it - I have a separate /home, it's not like I'll lose much. But I was just thinking that if I replaced all instances of i686 in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist with x86_64, then -Syu'ed, it may sort of fix itself up. I know I'd have to definitely change makepkg.conf, and a few other architecture-specific settings, but the very way Arch updates seems like it would be possible to do a full architecture switch.
    I originally installed i686 because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of a 32-bit chroot for running Firefox with java, flash, etc...but I've read up on it a bit and it doesn't look that hard, so I was thinking of using my chip to it's fullest with Arch64.
    Has anyone done this? Does anyone know if or why this will destroy my install? These are the things I want to know.

    Many thanks for the wonderful script. This will make it much quicker to get all my packages back. Though I think that -Qqe would be a better option since it wouldn't 'double-install' dependencies very often. Plus, it would keep the 'explicitly installed' list intact, otherwise -Rs would be near useless because with the original script I think every single package will be installed explicitly.
    But it is still a big time-saver, I won't have to go hunting down packages.

  • [SOLVED] Intel 5300 wifi on new Arch64 install

    I just bought a new Sager NP9262 laptop (but not really... it's huge, heavy, and sports a quad-core Q9650 processor), and put 64-bit Arch on it.  I've managed to get everything set up on it except for the wireless chip, an intel 4965.  I've downloaded the correct firmware (iwlwifi-4965-ucode) and the kernel module exists, but there seems to be a more basic problem.  hwdetect --show-net doesn't list the card at all, and lspci -k gives a rather unhelpful line saying
    Network controller: Intel Corporation Device 4235
    and lists no kernel modules which could work with the device.  Ideas?

  • [SOLVED] Arch64 high RAM usage...

    I recently installed Arch64 on my MacBook and everything works fine, however I noticed its using very much RAM in comparison to my 32 bit workstation system (which has 4GB, not all seen o/c in 32 bit, while my laptop has only 2GB). Right now, with only X, musca, firefox and 3 urxvt terms open its using about 25% of it. which comes down to about 500MB. I didn't mind that much until just now I've seen it going up to 64% after I've launched matlab and it remained at this number after I closed it. My system is still responsive and fast, but I'm afraid I'm running out of RAM quite fast this way...thus if this cannot be explained or fixed I'm forced to go back to Arch32.
    Is anybody else experiencing this ? I'm running kernel version 2.6.33.4-1 btw, and xorg 1.7.6-3.

    Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
    And firefox is KNOWN to be a memory grubby hog.
    Let the kernel do it's job. Unless you are specifically having issues(100% ram usages and high swap usage) there is little to worry about.
    Also relating to Arch32 v Arch64.64 has a larger memory address(64 against 32) apps will use more RAM.

  • Wine in chroot on 64bit (winetricks workaround) [SOLVED]

    Hi,
    So, I've managed to install wine into a 32bit chroot running pure 64bit (no multilib).
    I've got opengl stuff working for the chroot, but I cannot get winetricks to function.
    I've compiled and installed it from aur, but it gives the error "Cannot find wine (wine)".
    I need it to install corefonts.
    Can somebody point me to how I can just download and install corefonts for wine manually, or better, tell me how I have to setup my chroot for winetricks to recognize my wine install (1.2)!?! Or is this a winetricks bug?

  • Arch64 RAM issues [Solved]

    So I thought everything was fine until an application told me I had 4gb of RAM which is a far cry from the installed 16gb.
    I did plenty of digging around and narrowed it down to a couple possibilities, but first my investigation:

    Found it quite strange that the OS can obviously see the memory it just isn't being allocated, also what is with the slow clock speeds?
    I found a similar output with lshw.
    So I moved on to checking how it is actually initialized in dmesg, and honestly a lot of what was output I don't quite understand, I noticed that some memory was being reserved by the RAM map given by BIOs yet have no obvious way of disabling the BIOs RAM scheduler.

    it was working fine until yesterday, i've been searching about xcb_io.c but sadly i haven't found anything useful.

    it seems i can run it fine as sudo but not as a regular user

    well it seems that there was something wrong with my .zsnes folder, i deleted it (well first i made a backup of it) and i can run zsnes again.

    well, it seems i got a problem with opengl and my catalyst driver (but i'm guessing because i haven't tried with radeon) because i can use it without opengl but as soon as i change the video option to use opengl it crashes with the same error (zsnes: xcb_io.c:515: _XReply: Assertion `!dpy->xcb->reply_data' failed.) should i file a bug report or something???

    Finally i had to edit my .htaccess file adding a RewriteBase rule to it.
