[Solved with the obvious]pacman is broken

For mothers day one of my 2 gig sticks of ram broke. After I removed the offending hardware, my file system was corrupted. I ran fsck and said yes one hundred times until it was repaired. Everything is appears to be running well except for pacman. Here is my code when I try to upgrade the system:
[cdom@betty ~]$ sudo pacman -Syu
Password:
:: Synchronizing package databases...
core is up to date
extra is up to date
community is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/core/cryptsetup-1.0.6-2/desc: No such file or directory
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/extra/foomatic-filters-4.0_20090424-1/desc:No such file or directory

[cdom@betty ~]$
This is a brand new installation of arch_64 on my Lenovo X61. I am wondering if this is relatively easy to fix or should I just reinstall.

Have you tried running pacman -Syy?

  • How to run group solve with the batch manager

I'd like to know if it is possible (and how) to run group solve defined in OFA with the batch manager.
    Thank you

OFA uses its Task Processor rather than Batch Manager to run tasks in batch. Group solves can be scheduled this way by submitting the group solve task to the TP, and then rescheduling it in the Task Queue window.

  • All versions of Firefox with the Australis UI is broken for me.

Hey, I've been having a problem with post-v28 Firefox. The Hamburger/3-Line button does not open for me in the Australis UI, and the about:customizing page does not open. It's just a blank page. Also, I think the newer Firefox has some problems with Session Manager, but I've been concentrating on the non-functioning vanilla stuff.
I've tried Uninstalling and Reinstalling, Safe Mode, Uninstalling with Revo Uninstaller, Manually deleting profile and program files, and trying non-Mozilla Firefox builds. Nothing works except going for ESR builds before the Australis UI was implemented (Pale Moon in particular).

Sorry, but I was using Pale Moon when I made that post. That may have given the wrong impression of my Firefox setup. I would change the "System Details" section of the question if I knew how. The Mozilla support forums seem hellbent on stopping any attempts of correcting my initial error.
My Firefox install doesn't work even with a clean install or in safe mode. I deleted pref.js and localstore.rdf as well as used the "Restart with Addons" disable option. Both options redundant since they were performed on a clean install, but neither helped. Currently, I am running a vanilla Firefox 31 install without any addons and with all plugins disabled. The only option thing I changed (besides disabling the plugins) was ticking off the "Don't load tabs until selected".
Currently, with even just a clean install, the hamburger menu doesn't open, the about:customizing page just opens and stays blank, and Firefox just opens to about:newtab with the little speed dial type boxes automatically hidden.
If it would help, I can post the correct Troubleshooting Information from about:support.

  • I Need help with the following error:

Hi, I am getting the following error:
    <b>BPE_ADAPTER">SYSTEM_FAILURE_INTERNAL</b>
I have looked at some of the other threads that deal with this but since I am new to XI I am not sure where to look. I have tried to activate in SXI_CACHE and I get a code of 99 with the following error. I did not get this error in the QAS environment, only when it was moved to Prod. We have cleared and reset all of the caches and am still getting this error when I try to activate in SXI_CACHE:
<b>E     'STATUSCODE' is not a component of data object 'PAYLOAD'</b>
Can someone point me in the right direction to fix this? We just moved it to prod and need to get it fixed asap.
Thanks in advance for all of the help.

    Hi Michael,
    Before SP16:
the problem should be solved with the help of note 890760. You might find note
816430 interesting as well, but the first one should help you solve the problem.
    After:
If those are already in your system, have a look at note 996631. This could be
    the solution.
Regards and good luck with XI.

  • My Mac Pro starts up when I turn on the power, BEFORE I switch it on with the button, why? Plus, my computer keeps freezing and blacking out.

My Mac Pro starts up when I turn on the power supply (when I plug it to the outlet), BEFORE I switch on the button on the computer, why is this happening? Plus, my computer keeps freezing and blacking out and I'm forced to restart it, that's when the compter starts on its own when I turn on the power.

    Hello Engender,
I should have followed up with a progress report because I eventually eliminated all the problems I was having with my Mac Pro, now it's behaving like a new computer… beautifully.   I did originally take Grant's advice above, changing the setting that I had in the System Preferences > Energy Saver but that only stopped from rebooting on its own when I shut down my Mac properly.  Otherwise it continued to restart on its own after freezing or crushing when I switched on the power.  I took my machine to the Apple Store and after many tests they couldn't find anything wrong with it.  I was very depressed about the whole business.
It was after going onto many of the other Apple related websites that I discovered that it wasn't a faulty power switch or fan, as as I originally thought, but found out that my problem was related to the Graphic Card and possibly I did not have enough ram (I had the original amount of 2 GB).  The original card that came with the computer: 512 MB ATI Radeon X1900 XT was over heating and forcing my machine to shut down, I think it was because I had upgraded to OSX Lion which on its own requires at least 2 GB of ram to operate well.  I added 4 GB of Ram to the 2GB I had (4GB kit (2GBx2), Apple 240-pin FBDIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 upgrades for Apple Mac Pro (4-core) 1st Gen. - 2006-2007 Desktop/PC, CT579443 from Crucial.com about $160 for the set) and replaced the Graphic Card with ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB from Apple (around $260), (ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro (Mid 2010) - Apple Store (U.S.))  This card works very well with my original Mac Pro 2008.  I installed it about two weeks ago and no problem with it starting on its own, over heating or freezing.  OSX Lion works well and I'm thinking of upgrading to Mountain Lion once I learn that my Mac Pro 1.1  will work with the new hardware I installed.
Your problem could just be the power cord but I agree with you that doesn't sound right, when I mentioned faulty switch I meant the part where the power cord meets the power button, the unit which houses the power distribution, I thought at first that it could be faulty but changed my mind because of the computer overheating.
I don't know if this is of any help to you but I hope your trouble will be solved with the new cord.

  • Can we solve this problem -folder with the exclamation icon

What is this folder with the exclamation icon?
Why it happens only to the iPod connected to PC?
Why it is the toughest problem to be solved?
    What causes it?
Just would like to share my experience with all of you, my niece has a mini iPod that connects with a PC, however, after ejecting the iPod a few times inproperly, her iPod showed this most notorious evil icon. I followed all the instructions from the Apple web site in this forum, I did nearly ten times of Resets and Restores (I managed to restore but not everytimes), still failed to get rid of this icon, and it jsut would not disappear in the iPod. I just got very frustrated and I asked myself should I connect it with a Mac? Why not? So I connected it with my Mac, no surprise, then I put it in Disk Mode and reconnectted (few attempts), the iPod icon appeared on my Desktop but I still could not do the restore.
As I believed that iPod was the same as an external Hard Disk, and it was broken anyway, why not have another try - so I opened the Disk Utility and saw the iPod there, then I did an Erase (format) the iPod, once completed I reconnected with my Mac again, after 4 attempts, the iPod updater window popup and asked me whether I would like to do a restore, I finally managed to get rid of this icon. I connectted it with PC and was able to do a restore in my PC and got recongzied afterward. It has happened almost for 6 months and I heard that this iPod is still working fine.
My suggestion is - unless you need to do the update of song with your iPod, never and ever charged your iPod via connecting with the PC, I leave my iPod with the Bose docking system and it has no problem at all.

My suggestion is - unless you need to do the update of song with your iPod, never and ever charged your iPod via connecting with the PC, I leave my iPod with the Bose docking system and it has no problem at all.
I always use the iPod AC charger to charge my iPods and I have never had any problems.
The initial cause of the problems in your post is probably that several improper ejection of the iPod. If you do not have a Mac the problem may not be solvable by yourself.

Hi! I just bought Lion and I am having a problem with the installation. It keeps telling me that the computer's hard drive has a S.M.A.R.T. problem. How can I solve it?
    Thanks!
    Angela

You may have a hard drive problem. When I installed Lion, the installer told me that it couldn't complete because the hard drive was failing (or broken, the exact words escape me). Since the HD had been functioning just fine, I took it to the Genius Bar, and found out that yes, the hard drive was slowly dying (bad sectors). I couldn't reboot into Snow Leopard, the installer wouldn't let me and then the drive just wouldn't work at all.
I had to replace my drive and restore from Time Machine. Thankfully, I had Time Machine, and had just done a backup 5 minutes before the crash.
    Best of luck.

  • Pacman seg fault(Solved but with comments on pacman-db-upgrade)

Performed an install from FTP and booted into root login.
Performed pacman -Syu  and received report system up to date.
Performed downloads via pacman of twelve packages including xorg and xfce4.
    Performed download of abs package.
    Downloaded abs repos.
Modified abs extra vlc package and performed pacman -U install of modified package.
Pacman working well at this point.
    Rebooted.
After reaching xfce4 Desktop, attemptd to install firefox.
Pacman -S firefox produced..... /usr/bin/pacman/ report(forget the exact error)
Subsequent trials with ...pacman -U .... produces seg fault.
Cannot use pacman.  All other programs seem to perform correctly.  Perhaps have lost DNS.
    Cannot perform ...pacman -Syu --debug.....segfaults.

Solved the difficulty but have no idea what can be done to prevent it from occuring for another user.
It seems that the db did not get upgraded when the ...pacman-db-upgrade ...command was executed.  There was no statement for ..."pre 3.5 db" upgrade....while executing the command.
After re-install, the upgrade command performed correctly and pacman now performs correctly after reboots.
The question comes up as to what to do if the upgrade command does not work correctly and whether some indicator of correct response should appear in the beginners guide.  Additionally, what can be done in the event that the upgrade command fails to meet the correct response.
These questions will in time be resolved by a new .iso but the present exposure is amazing in its consequences!
Perhaps the upgrade command is also a function of properly synced mirrors but the command requesting the upgrade was ...pacman -Syy... the mirror sync function!
    What do we have...catch22?
The resultant segfaults make sense if the pacman sync db is not upgraded.
How is a user to know the upgrade failed?  What to do about such a condition?
Marking this thread as solved ...with comments...

  • [SOLVED] So many problems with the RTL8723au wireless card:

    Hello,
I have been a long time linux user (Ubuntu & CentOS) and recently switched to Arch Linux. My laptop usually has strange issues with all sorts of stuff when it runs Linux like graphics cards, brightness control, and WiFi. So far I have been able to fix the first two on my own from the wiki.
In Ubuntu I was used to having to clone into https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723au and then making the driver. After a quick modprobe 8723au the wireless interface came up and was working perfectly with NetworkManager.
After doing the same thing with Arch, NetworkManager cannot connect to the internet, neither can Wicd which gets stuck at the Authentication step. I finally disabled both of these services and used wpa_supplicant to successfully connect but after a lot of errors. I am pretty sure something is wrong with the wireless driver, and not Wicd, NetworkManager, and wpa_supplicant at the same time.
There is no output from  iw dev
'Not connected.' from  iw dev wlp0s26u1u4i2   even though wpa_supplicant is connected to the internet.
    Output of   sudo wpa_supplicant -Dwext -iwlp0s26u1u4i2 -c./wpa_test  :
(wpa_supplicant takes a good 3 minutes to connect)

Apparently one cannot run dhcpcd AND NetworkManager at the same time. I feel really stupid, but at the same time I spent most of today looking through the wiki.
For those newbies who ran into this, do this with root access:
    systemctl disable dhcpcd.service
    systemctl enable NetworkManager.service
    Marking this as solved.

Yes the phone belongs to me. It was purchased from United Kingdom Vodafone to West Africa, i had to factory unlock to use any sim in it. so it belongs to me. I did the activation myself, now after updating my iphone to the latest update, it required a user id and password to activate the phone, but anytime i enter the details, it tells me the user Id is not correct but the password is correct..

  • My Airport Time Capsule only works when I turn off and turn on, but I think this may end up with the unit. What can this happening and how to solve?

    Time Capsule Airport
Hello to all, good day, sorry my english google, but it is the tool I have at the moment. I'm having trouble with my Time Capsule Airport, I made all the settings according to the manual, but there has been a connection problem with my iMac. When I finish my work I turn off the imac and then again when they return to work and care, it can not connect to Time Capsule Airport, making it impossible to remove the files and make back up by Time Machine only works when I turn off and turn on the Airport Time Capsule , but I think this may end up with the unit. What can this happening and how to solve? Thank you.
Obrigado.

This is easier to do with pictures perhaps.. since we do not share a common language and machine translation leaves a lot to be desired.
In the airport utility bring up your Time Capsule.
    Simply post the screenshots here.
    So here is mine.
Click on the Edit button and give us the Internet and Wireless and Network tab..
    eg.
Please also make sure you are set to ipv6 in your wireless or ethernet .. whichever is used.. and do tell which.
This is wifi in your computer.
    The following are important..
DO not use long names with spaces and non-alphanumeric names.
Use short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    eg TC name. TCgen5
    Wireless name TCwifi
Use WPA2 Personal security with 10-20 character pure alphanumeric password.
read apple instructions to help with TM and TC.. they did finally admit it has issues in Mavericks.
OS X Mavericks: Time Machine problems
Mount the TC manually in finder.
    AFP://TCgen5.local
When asked for the password .. that is the disk access password and save it in the keychain.
    Reset Time Machine

You are allowed to have two machines with activated installations, so if you only had one installation, you still have the option to install on a second without doing anything further than that.  If you originally downloaded the purchase thru Adobe then you might find a download link available in your Adobe account online.  You can also download thru the following page if you can find your version:
    Download and Installation Help -
    https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html
You can have the first installation deactivated to free up the activation and have it available for another machine again as well.  YOu need to contact Adobe Support thru chat for that.  For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

I have a IPhone 5 and Iphone 5s, each phone is activited with a different service provider. Both are set up with the same account ID and running IOS 8.0.2. When the phones are connected to the same Wifi at home, both phones will ring when someone call in to one of the phone.  Hence you do not know exactly which line the caller called.  If you answered using the wrong phone, then anyone calling the other number will not get through.  Anyway to solve this problem?

    Hey David Koh TP,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like your devices are set up to use continuity together. Specifically, it sounds like you are signed into the same Apple ID in FaceTime, and have iPhone Cellular Calls enabled. To resolve your issue, simply disable this setting:
Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6337
    Turn off iPhone cellular calls
To turn off iPhone Cellular Calls on a device, go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off iPhone Cellular Calls.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
