[SOLVED] X Server becomes unresponsive to input after a while
Hello,
I'm using XFCE 4 without a display manager (just startx) and this is what happens: I launch the terminal and after a few keystrokes the window doesn't accept any more input. Except for an occasional key repeat. After that when I try to drag the window the motherboard just beeps and nothing happens. Although I can drag around the icons in the dock. The window buttons work too.
I had a similar behavior when I tested the X Server with xterm (I just followed the excellent beginner's guide).
I'm using xf86-input-evdev with no X configuration for the keyboard except for the layout.
There are no errors in the Xorg.0.log...
I never experienced such behavior. Maybe someone of you knows what the cause might be and what other info I could provide. Thanks.

I used the computer for a bit longer now and the issue occured again with the new user. I finally replaced the keyboard and it works now. I think the issue was that the old keyboard was faulty (some modifier keys got stuck or something)...
The only way this showed in the tty was that I couldn't type a backslash while holding the modifier key but just hitting 'ß' (german layout) worked.
Anyways thanks for your help and sorry for bothering you because of a stupid hardware fault.

Ive got an issue here that once i load my code (executable), and it starts up, the NI ftp server becomes unresponsive. All the software on the RealTime is the latest NI RT 2009 software. Im using about 55% CPU and 92% memory on the device.

KenI would kind of expect that if the CPU usage was really high, but not at 55%. Have you narrowed it down to this specific piece of code? Have you built a simple do-nothing application and deployed it to your controller? And could you expand on "becomes unresponsive", does it work for a while then stop, or is it immediate?

Firefox has becomes unresponsive and slow after I tried to install addons (not installed)?
I recently format my computer and reinstall the windows 7, since this was the only solution that I know to fix the problem with Firefox (I previously had this problem too). I download the latest version of firefox 33.0.2 and install it . This version was super fast. But becomes unresponsive and slow, when I tried to install the add-ons. I visited the official website of firefox and search for the addons, when I tried to install some addons, Firefox crashed. From then on, it has becomes quite slow and can't restore previous sessions. Even to type my email address, It takes more than 5 minutes and becomes unresponsive frequently (after I typed each letter).

How do I fix this issue? I haven't been able to use Aperture or load new photos into Aperture for weeks. Since upgrading to Aperture 3, from Aperture 2; I've noticed that Aperture 3 is a major memory hog. I had to upgrade my unibody macbook to keep up with Aperture, otherwise my whole system become unresponsive when trying to simply look at my photos. I have about 15,000 pictures in my library, but the program is designed to organize large libraries. Why has it been so buggy the past year? Should I just jump ship and go to Lightroom?

it is normal, that after a crash a library repair is required. Aperture is a database, and if a crash happens, transactions may not be completed, so the library may be left in an inconsitent state. Usually the built-in repair methods can take care of this. But I assume, you have a backup of your Aperture library. If not, now would be the time to create one, just in case.
I doubt, Aperture is causing this crashes - it may be a coincidence; kernel panics quite often are due to an overfull hard disk, incompatible frameworks or kernel extensions, or to failing hardware. Run a hardware check, check the available disk space and file system with disk utility, and try to remember, if you installed anything else lately, that might have added incompatible kernel extensions. Turn off any helper apps, start up items.
Your kernel panic occurs when accessing the graphics card. Sometimes this can be resolved by booting into safe mode, this will disable advanced features and reset the card. Note: Aperture will not run in safe boot mode, see

Browse MacBook forum and Mt. Lion forum, to see, if anybody else has problems with Mt. Lion and your particular Hardware configuration and card.

Server becomes unresponsive as the day goes on.
After about 8+ hours our 10.4.8 server becomes un-responsive. I lose ARD connectivity, AFP and SMB shares become unavailable, applications take a really long time to open, either the black arrow in the dock pulses or the app beachballs. When I view the activity viewer nothing is consuming excess memory or ram, CPU usage stays below 5%.
After a restart all is fine again, very fast and snappy. As the day goes on though, same story.
What can I do to resolve and diagnose this issue?not a worry here ... running 10.4.8 Universal binary with WWW DHCP IPFW NAT AFP and FTP running ... system load on uptime shows up at 13.20hours load average of 6 percent.. which deamons services are running on the machines ? May be SMB is acting up ...
I run ARD and other remotes on these sytems and all i can say is snappy. A possibility is that something might be hanging your system such as a kernel extension acting up , i guess all of you ran repair privileges after updating , just in case.
May be a fix on Macpro's i have been having trouble with Contextual Menus from our dear pal Stuffit a long time ago all i did at that time was dump the CM extensions trash them and repair privileges after reboot. You can diagnose this easily by creating another user somewhere on your machine logging in and see if the un responsiveness of your applications still occurs. -
[Solved] xorg server & keyboard conf error messages after upgrade
I ran my daily upgrade (today was big, from FF to the kernel to xorg) and I was not able to login on GDM afterwards.
It's weird. The X server will start, and so will the GDM login screen. But entering the password will result in a GDM crash (I later found out that KDM and SLIM have the same issue; KDM not starting and SLIM refusing the keyboard input). So after starting an alternate console and trying to start x (startx), I have this error message:

I have been fiddling with the keyboard config on xorg.conf but I'm not sure I'm getting anywhere. Also, I downgraded the xorg-server and xkeyboard config packages just to be sure.

* I don't really understand this notion of a keyboard issue. My keyboard and its layout work properly but I will not be able to login regardless of login through GDM, KDM or Slim. Yet it's worth noting that in the case of GDM and SLIM the X server starts; I see the graphical interface, I click, etc. but when I type the trouble starts.
* I tried to check my xsessions-errors file. The file is really big under a frame buffer, and it wasn't clear to me, but I found strange that the log was reporting all sorts of attempts to start KDE. I don't exactly know what's going on.
If anybody has any clue, let me know... It's becoming very frustrating.

[SOLVED] X Server not accepting remote connections after update
Hi everyone! After recent upgrade Xorg on my laptop not allows other machines to use him as a window server, just an example:
on laptop:

I've a windows 2003 R2 server that the last few days all of a sudden comes up with unable to log in no resources available to log in via rdp. I can open a console and memory is less than 25% along with low processor 5-15%. looking through the Logs looks
like something is corrupting the registry all of a sudden a hour or so before it shows up. lots of app messages but it never names the app any idea how to do extensive logging or debugging to tell what is causing the issue?First thing, can you login to the server using the console?

SQL Causes server to swap and become unresponsive does it have the same effect with other users??
WARNING - script causes my servers to not respond, requiring reboot after 30 mins
Only run on a server/vm where a bounce is ok
The script creates a table
Runs an anonymous block to put 160mb in a single clob
Runs a simple select with some REGEXP_REPLACE and REGEXP_SUBSTR
This has been raised with Oracle support.
Their conclusion is lots of single block reads are causing the server to hang.
I do not think this is the reason and would like someone else to run it, to see what they think!

Now I am lost!!
As Iggy points out from the strace, the OS is returning an error back to the Oracle foreground process, is this not handled?
Or is it normal for oracle to ignore this error, and ask for more memory?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just installed latest updates and now itunes becomes unresponsive after 10-15 minutes
The latest OSX update (Security Update 2013-003) perhaps is breaking itunes. It becomes unresponsive after 10-15 minutes and I have to force quit it each time.
with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time? -
Every time I try to open Iphoto '11 (as of today) the coloured wheel appears after a few seconds and the program becomes unresponsive. I assume I have a corrupt file but I cant do anything including accessing help. I have tried closing down and restarting but it dosnt help. Any ideas please?
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Firefox tabs close when I simply click on a tab and windows become unresponsive after I launch a site. I am using the latest version for MacOSX but this happened a couple days ago with an older version of Firefox as well. Is this some kind of bug? How do I fix this bug? Have already tried a bunch of things like clearing/reinstalling etc. This does not help.

Safari becomes unresponsive after approx. 24 hours uptime on machines
I have two macs (MacBook 2.4 Core2 Duo and Mac Mini 2.0 Core2 Duo both running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Safari 5) that are experiencing the same problem with Safari. Namely, after around 24 hours up bootup, Safari becomes unresponsive. That is to say, to attempt to open other webpages or scroll through open webpages results in almost perpetual "beach balls". Force quitting and restarting Safari doesn't help the problem.
The only thing that DOES work is to completely reboot the computer. This has been going on for quite some time now and I'm totally flummoxed. I'd offer up more information to help troubleshoot it, but I don't know what else to try.
Any suggestions?
Much thanks.Hey HEY I THINK I may have figured it out. I opened console to watch what was happening when Safari would open. I noticed that right after the evernote plugin would appear in console, safari would being the beach ball bit. I had attempted uninstalling Evernote in the past without any change in safari behaviour. But right BEFORE on console it showed that an app called TastyApps AV was loaded.
I did a google search on TastyApps AV and found this thread:

THAT AV plugin is for a program called VideoBox, which I actually use now and again. BUT on that thread people had stated to uninstall the Safari AV plugin for wonky issues under Leopard. So I opened VideoBox, and under the dropdown menu there was an option to uninstall that safari plugin. Once I did that, Safari IMMEDIATELY began running faster even before closing out / opening it again.
Once closed / reopened, it still takes a moment to get going (at the time evernote is appearing to start up in console) but after that it seems to be working pretty much ok.
Fingers crossed, I think this may have corrected the problem. -

Video importing, but not audio
Hello- When importing files into final cut, the audio on some of the footage does not import. anybody know why? the file types m-peg from my sony handycam. they play with audio on the VLC player but not in final cut.
