[SOLVED] Xfce 4.12 desktop background problem

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with Xfce 4.12 desktop background. After pc rebooting I see distorted desktop background. If I change the desktop wallpaper, the background becomes normal. The same thing happens when reloading xfdesktop, the background becomes normal.

Problem solved. Problem was with Linux kernel and Intel graphics card. On boot I was getting this error : [drm:intel_set_cpu_fifo_underrun_reporting [i915]] *ERROR* uncleared fifo underrun on pipe A
I downgraded kernel to version 3.14.6-1, now xfce desktop looks OK and no errors during boot.

  • Desktop background problems:  27" iMac/Mission Control

I've just installed a 27" iMac running 10.8 with 16 GB RAM.  I use 4 desktops at a time with different backgrounds in each.  When changing between e.g. desktops 2 and 3, via CTRL-right-arrow, Mission Control annoyingly flashes the desktop 1 background before replacing it with the desktop 3 background.
I have replicated the problem on the other 27" iMac's I have access to, and with a variety of desktop backgrounds (e.g. only the Apple provided ones)
and with various amounts of RAM (8 GB to 16GB).  It is a consistent problem on all 27" iMac's running 10.8 as far as I can see.
Mission Control handled multiple desktop backgrounds flawlessly under my previous set up (iMac 21"/10.7).
Does anyone know how to fix this behavior?

  • Desktop background problem

    Hi
I have chosen to use a particular photo folder to use as desktop background for my Imac. I have also checked the "change image" and "random" boxes, every 30 minutes. As long as I keep the Imac running, everything is fine but as soon as for some reason, I reboot the computer, I get the original photo that came with Snow Leopard and I have to change the settings all over again as it had not remembered the information.
I have tried a few times to delete the finder's plist fife, to no avail. Is there something else I may try to try and fix it once and for all ?
    thanks

I just created a new admin account, applied the same desktop background settings as my regular account and then rebooted to the newly created account. I was surprised to find out that it's the exact same situation with the new account.

  • Please Help- Forum Solutions Don't Solve Blank Creative Cloud Desktop App Problem!

I'm using Windows 7 and simply want to download a trial version of InDesign.  I downloaded the Creative Cloud desktop app and it's blank.  Thinking I still need to do more on the Adobe Creative Cloud web site I went and clicked on the download under the InDesign icon there.  It says it's downloading but there's nothing shown on my screen to indicate that's the case- and sure enough nothing is actually being downloaded.
I have tried several times the solution mentioned in other posts, restarted my computer but nothing makes the Creative Cloud app appear anything but blank.
Can anyone tell me what's going on and what I need to do to download a trial of InDesign?
    Thanks.

Thanks very much for the link.
I systematically implemented each of the recommended fixes:
    -  Verified I'm connected to the Internet (obviously)
    -  Verified I can access secure sites
    -  Checked "hosts" file, verified I have access to activation servers for CS6 or later (but not for not CS5.5), but in attempting to reset the hosts file, did not find any references to "activate.adobe.com.  Here's what I saw:
    -  Verified that the GlobalSign Root CA certificate is enabled ("enabled only for the following purposes") and did not change any of the checked boxes in the list.
After taking all these steps, the situation remains the same- blank Creative Cloud App.
    Any further suggestions?
    Thanks again for the assistance!

  • [SOLVED] XFCE Remove Thunar from desktop?

Hi. I've got a annoying problem that i can't seem to find a solution to on my own and furthermore it seems like nobody is discussing the "issue" I'm about to address.
Since my new install of Arch Linux XFCE defaults to have Thunar on my desktop! Adding annoying desktop icons and worst of all: the old right click menu is placed as a submenu in a new Thunar like menu :S
Maybe nice for some. But in this case I'm conservative. I want to be able to access the old XFCE menu directly on a right click on the desktop. How do to accomplish this?
By the way, my old Arch system that has been up to date doesn't seem to be affected by this change, it only appeared on a new install.

I didn't find this info when I last tried Xfce. From http://wiki.xfce.org/releng/4.6/general-info
Xfce's desktop manager, xfdesktop, is the program that draws the desktop background, desktop icons, and previous presents the right-click root menu and middle-click window list menu. The news in Xfce 4.6 is that "Desktop setting → Icons → Appearance → Icon type" setting causes the root menu disappear if something else than "File/launcher icons" is selected. You are still able to have the root menu as an instance in the desktop settings menu, which presents then your right-click in Xfce 4.6. This is set at "Desktop setting → Icons → Appearance → Menu".
I hope you can translate that.

I've solved it. Turns out, some menu entries are stored in ~./local/share/applications. Removing it there solved the problem.

  • Imac display problem, the resolution seems to be unusual, top bar and all folders on the desktop background is off the screen

Need help with 21" imac display problem. The resolution seems to be unsual, everything on the desktop background goes off the screen. The resolution is set at 1920 x 1080

Quit the game and restart the iPad.
To quit the game - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that doesn't work try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Desktop background for clients problem....

I have an xserve set up as a PDC for about 50 windows xp machines. Each user has their own home directory mounted on the /Users share point. All the users are able to log in create files on their desktop, music folder, or my documents and sign out and then go to another computer and sign in and everything will show up in their respected folders as it should with roaming profiles. The only thing that is causing a problem is that when a user changes their desktop background and logs off and then logs in on another computer they do not get their desktop background that they set. I know this is a minor problem but with roaming profiles a user should be able to customize their environment and have it replicate to another computer when they log in. Any suggestions?? Thank you for your help!

    Hi Wim Duizer,
Because desktop wallpaper can be controlled with the registry 'HKCU:\Control Panel\Desktop\', you can get it through setting registry in gpo: GPMC->Edit->USER Configuration->Preferences->Windows Settings->Registry, and you can use
the cmdlet Set-GPPrefRegistryValue to edit this gpo in powershell.
Please try the script below, which need test firstly:
    $GPOName = 'desktop wallpaper'
    $TargetOU = 'OU=Domain Controllers,...'
New-GPO -Name $GPOName | Set-GPPrefRegistryValue -Context User -Key 'HKCU:\Control Panel\Desktop' -ValueName wallpaper -Value "image file path" -Type String -Action Update
    New-GPLink -Name $GPOName -Target $TargetOU | out-null
    I hope this helps.

  • Problem with Desktop Background

So I've tried researching and figuring this out on my own but I nothing's working.
I few weeks ago I changed my desktop background to an image I have on iPhoto, changing the picture through the application itself, if I remember correctly.
About a week ago I decided I wanted to change my desktop background. I go to System Preferences and click on an image in a folder and, within minutes, the image I had before is on again. I've tried different pictures, different settings in "Desktop & Screen Savers," I've tried deleting com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist as suggested in http://discussions.info.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10696928 yet to no avail.
    Any other suggetions? Thanks.

It sounds like you might have already done this, but make sure the Change Picture option is off in System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver.

  • Problem applying .CR2 photo file as desktop background

    Hello-
I have been trying to apply a photograph taken in RAW as a desktop background image. The file is .CR2 and when I click done to set it as the background, the background does not change and the notice comes up that System Preferences has unexpectedly shut down.
    Please help !
    Thanks

I recommend saving the file in a more compatible format like .png or .jpg before trying to turn it into a screen backdrop.

  • When viewing some websites my desktop background image shows as the page background...why...and how do I fix this?

It seems that the current version of Firefox does not understand how to process style sheets. Instead of the stylesheet background color or image, I am now seeing my PC's desktop background image. This does not happen with IE or Chrome. When checking the error console, I get "Warning: Unknown property 'zoom'. Declaration dropped. Source File: http://trustserve.net/themes/ModernBlue/templates_cached/EN/global.css Line: 4"
I am not trying to zoom.
Any ideas on how to fix this. I can't use Firefox with these problems and I really liked it prior to these problems.

I thought I had it disabled. I enabled aero and then disabled to be sure, and still have the problem, but that was a very good idea. Thanks.
The problem started shortly after I installed two new programs, a graphics program, and an anti-virus. I just removed both programs and restarted the computer and that seems to have solved the problem. Your idea about Aero gave me the idea that one, or both of these programs changed some of my system settings. I am now going to install them, one at a time, and see if the transparency problem returns. I'll post my findings.

  • "Change desktop background" instantly hides when opened

I have a rather strange issue that's a nuisance. When I right click on the desktop and select "Change Desktop Background," the system preferences pane opens, but automatically is hidden (similar to if you press cmd+H). I have to click the icon to restore the window.
This does NOT occur if I first open System Preferences and then select "Desktop & Screen Saver," or if I open "DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefpane" from quicksilver.
I have tried deleting com.apple.desktop.plist and restarting, but this did not solve my problem. I think I may have experienced this problem in Lion as well, but I currently experience it on Mountain Lion.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

This same thing happens to me, and while not the end of the world, it is defintely annoying.  Have you figured it out?  Thanks!

  • Desktop backgrounds all changed?

Hello internets! So my desktop backgrounds have all been downloaded with a resolution of 1600x1200, while my resolution in settings is 1280x800. And while this has never been a problem before, now all my backgrounds are zoomed in slightly and are cut off on the bottom. I don't have zoom on and the rest of desktop is the same....anyone know what to do?
    Thanks!

Take these steps if the cursor changes from an arrow to a white "prohibited" symbol when you try to move an icon on the Desktop.
Sometimes the problem may be solved just by logging out or rebooting. Try that first, if you haven't already done it. Otherwise, continue.
Select the icon of your home folder (a house) in the sidebar of a Finder window and open it. The Desktop folder is one of the subfolders. Select it and open the Info window. In the General section of the window, the Kind will be either Folder  or something else, such as Anything.
If the Kind is Folder, uncheck the box marked Locked. Close the Info window and test.
If the Kind is not Folder, make sure the Locked box is not checked and that you have Read & Write privileges in the  Sharing & Permissions section. Then close the Info window and do as follows.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo Desktop
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You should get a new line ending in a dollar sign ($). Quit Terminal.
    Relaunch the Finder.
If the problem is now resolved, and if you use iPhoto, continue.
Quit iPhoto if it's running. Launch it while holding down the option key. It will prompt you to select a library. Choose the one you want to use (not the Desktop folder.)

  • After 10.6.7 can't get desktop background to display

This problem is similar to Linc Davis problem solved in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2795229
In that thread I write: "I tried the [] from Linc Davis and it didn't work for me. I have a MBP bought in may 2010 i Sweden which is where I live. "  When I never got replies I figured it was because Lincs thread was marked as solved (green text). So I created my own discussion (this thread).
After upgrading today to 10.6.7 I notice the desktop background is replaced by a completely white background. Quoting vr8ce since this is the same for me: "It displays them in System Pref with no problem, and it doesn't give an error when choosing, it just doesn't change the desktop background." Unlike vr8ce, it was not happening in 10.6.6 for me. And unlike vr8ce my background is not blue but white.
I haven't tried using anything from iPhoto etc - I'm just using the images in System Pref.
I have upgraded to 10.6.7 (today), rebooted, run Repair Disk on the Install DVD (from another tip). I don't actually remember "fixing permissions".
As I said, the tip from Linc Davis - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2795229 - didn't work for me. I'm not using a Screen Saver and never have, instead I prefer to close the lid, but not sure if this is the best thing to do.

  • Aperture Library unavailable in Desktop Background

I've been transitioning to Aperture for quite some time and have been having recurring trouble, with both 3.0 and 3.1, in using the Aperture Library in my Desktop Backgrounds preference pane.
When loading the Desktop preference pane, the stock images and an unused iPhoto library load up, but the Aperture library waits for a few moments and then it loads nothing. No tiny arrow on the left, no images in the window, nothing. The Aperture library loads into the Screen Saver preference pane, as well as other places for the iLife Media Browser. JUST NOT the Desktop Background pane.
I took the time to look in the Console for some insight and I got that System Preferences sent the message:
** DesktopPref error: DSKApertureRootSource -loaddata TIME OUT!!! There something wrong with iLife Media Browser
Yes, that would be Apple's poor grammar. If anybody has ANY insight into this, I'd welcome it, because I'd love to get this solved.
For those who might already suggest, let me note that I have rebuilt the library twice, repaired permissions, blah blah blah.

I have exactly the same problem, but I can trace it a bit further.
    I use three Aperture libraries.
I open one of them in Aperture, and then select the other ones with File > Switch library.
Two of them work fine and appear in "Change desktop background"
The third one does not appear - I only have "aperture" written in grey, but no subfolders.
THIS ONE IS THE ONE CONTAINING FACEBOOK SHARED ALBUMS !!
So I'm afraid the Facebook/flicker sharing functionality could be (once more (*)) the problem here.
Can anyone confirm based on own experience ?
+(*) once more because it seems that these functionalities already break the bridge between Aperture and FrontRow. It does on my iMac, and it has been reported in many other threads also.+
