[Solved] XFCE 4.8: Disable Thunar Location Bar Autocompletion?

I just noticed that for some reason when I start typing a path in thunar, it force-pastes the autocompletion in, and moves on. For example I type "/e" and it force-pastes "/etc/" which makes me end up typing "/etc/tc" I find this rather annoying, though the only thing similar to this I found was a mail-list for thunar-dev back in 06, and the only thing said at the end was that it was a bug. I'm pretty sure that this has since been fixed, or this person had the same thing happen to them, since it wasn't doing this for me earlier this week. When I run thunar as root, autocompletion works correctly, so it makes me think that its more of an issue with a config file in my home folder and am wondering if anyone knows which one that I might need to edit.
Edit: Must have been something weird with my first few installs [which were pretty noobish]. I have yet to encounter this bug/misconfiguration on my latest installs where I actually knew what I was doing.

jeslinmx wrote:~/.config/thunar? If I recall correctly there should be configs there.
That was indeed the right folder for the configurations, but in both of the files, for accelerators and the thunar rc file, I was unable to find any options to change or add to alter this behavior.
It could be a regression of what the mailing list said was a bug back in '06, since I know the lower version of thunar on my other computer running Xubuntu doesn't have this issue. I'll have to check my thunarrc file on that box to see if theres something different about that configuration.
If not, it doesn't hurt me much. Going alt-f2 and just typing thunar and then the path I want isn't too annoying, though I found it convenient when it actually worked in thunar.

• How to stop location bar autocomplete from using top-level domains?

I love the location bar autocomplete - or at least, I used to. I had it trained to the point where typing one letter was enough to bring up the pages I used most often. But now with Firefox 12, it ignores all that and favors top-level domains.
For instance: I haven't been to the front page of YouTube in years; there's no reason to go there. When I would type "www.y" into the location bar, it would pop up to the one video I visited most often - and that's exactly what I WANTED it to do. Now it defaults to "YouTube.com" and I have to scroll down to find the actual page I want. Same deal with Wikipedia: I don't want to go to the front page, I want to go to the page I use most often for research.
So basically, what do I need to change to get the location bar autocomplete to stop giving me top-level domains I don't want, and go back to giving me the subpages I spent years training it to favor? Scrolling down to the right entry is a waste of time when typing one letter and hitting enter should be enough to do it...

And I meant the actual location bar, not the dropdown menu below it. The dropdown is fine: it's the autocomplete in the location bar that needs to be fixed...

• My location bar autocompletes, replacing the already-typed text with the first few letters of the "switch to tab" URL; is there any way to change this?

If I have a mozilla.com window open and I try to type "mouse" to automatically search through my bookmarks and history for something on about mice, for example, the location bar changes the "mo" to "ht", due to the autocomplete replacing what I was typing with the URL of the mozilla.com tab, which starts with http://.
This is really annoying... since if I continue typing the word "mouse" it replaces it with "htuse". Which is useless to me, trying to search for mice.
Any way to fix this?

There is a way that you can do this, but it does mean abandoning CNAME forwarding that you have already set up and just using ordinary masked web forwarding. In this way you can go to the web forwarding section at your domain name registrar and forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename. This will re-direct your site in the way that you want, but because it is masked web forwarding, just your domain name will show as the url for every single page, so you cannot bookmark single pages of a site, just the whole site.
If you use an iWeb blog and you mess around with moving the pages around in your iDisk, then you will loose MobileMe features such as the ability to post comments and also as you have already found, when you publish from within iWeb, it automatically publishes to the same place on your iDisk and not where you have moved your site to.
If I were you I would set up an individual blog with WordPress or Blogger or something similar - if you have an ordinary web host you can upload WordPress there and this then has the advantage of you being able to use your domain name followed by blog or whatever. It is a lot simpler than fiddling around with the iWeb blogging system - I have a blog on my own site and I use WordPress. My site was designed using iWeb and I just create a link from my site to my blog at WordPress - couldn't be simpler really.

• [Solved] Xfce : Want to disable save session

Hello everyone. New to Arch.
Here's my problem. I want to disable save session feature of Xfce, but unable to do it. I also have tried,
1. Settings manager > Session and startup - Unticking "Automatically save session on logout"
2. Removing session cache.
But no luck. Is there any other way to that? Thanks in advance.

I Think I didn't describe my problem well in above post.
I already disabled automatically save session on logout from Xfce settings manger. Because I don't want it. But in every time going to logout "Save session for future logins" ticked. I must to untick it always on logout dialog. Otherwise session will be saved. That's what I want to be disabled.
EDIT : Never mind. Fixed it my own. Just logged in as root and removed session cache folder. [~/.cache/session]

• The location bar autocomplete doesn't work for certain letters.

This is a really specific problem, the dropdown autocomplete for the location/awesome bar does not work if what I'm typing starts with the letter 'k'.

Your .zshrc is only read when you start a new shell: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Zs … tion_files

• When typing in the location bar i get a bunch of garbage and can't figure out how to get ONLY the history.

just want to get a simple url when i type in the location bar, not the rest of the garbage.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== always

Hello Carl.
See this article:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Location+bar+autocomplete
I hope it helps. If it doesn't, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

• Change location bar suggestions so it shows bookmarks first instead of most opened

Hello,
I would love to change the locations bar settings so it shows matched bookmarks first instead of history based hits. For example I want to quick access the web site "xxxx". I start typing in "xx" and the first suggestion is for the main site - that is why I bookmark "xxxx.com/forum". With the bookmark next time I start typing "xx" it always shows the "xxxx.com/forum" first, no matter that I've accessed the main sait "xxxx.com" more. The show only bookmarks option that is in Options -> Privacy doesn't suit me since I want to view history as well.
Note: An add-on for that is a perfectly valid option as well
Thanks in advance!

You can add a space and a * to search bookmarks.

• What does the down arrow at the end of the location bar do

Cannot find a description of this item in the help info

Depending on the settings you have for location bar suggest settings, it will display a list of sites based on an algorithm that analyzes how often you visit a site and how recently the site was visited. After using Firefox for a while this should be a list of regularly visited sites.

Element Hiding Helper for Adblock
Flagfox

Hi ApolloSerenus,
You are probably referring to the location bar history. If you click on that button, a list of websites should appear. This article will give you information on clearing the history.
You should also look at Location bar autocomplete for other cool things you can do with the Location Bar.
Hopefully this helps!

• Why have my location bar dropdown history as well as bookmarks stopped working?

For some reason I can no longer use the drop down arrow on my location bar to see my history and quickly go to a site previously viewed.
Also I can no longer bookmark any pages. I have gone to the tools and options and privacy to make the recommended tech support changes. Still nothing!
Help please

Make sure that the Location Bar is not set to "Nothing":
* Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Location Bar: When using the location bar, suggest: History, Bookmarks, History and Bookmarks, Nothing
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Location+bar+autocomplete
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_fix-the-bookmarks-file
You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:

• How do I disable Autocomplete COMPLETELY without messing with other settings such as with the location bar? I still like to see websites there that I've been to, without typing it in every time, but just hate the autocomplete part.

Case: When I go to Tools - Options - Privacy then Location Bar options, there should be another option to where we can disable auto-complete from the Location Bar without messing with other settings. Example #1: I click "Nothing" and then I gotta type in the website I wanna go to every single time. Example #2: I click "History & Bookmarks" and then it auto-completes. Is there any other option just to disable Auto-Complete all together??

Is inline autocomplete enabled?

Even though I have LCD font smoothing disabled, Mountain Lion still uses it in PDF views, Safari’s location bar, Mail’s message view, and the dialogs for mounting encrypted disk images. Is there any solution to this problem? Also diabled the Smoothing in the SystemPrefs and also via Terminal. Font smoothing is still there. Very annoying, especially in PDF attachments in Apple Mail.

Try feeding Safari a user-defined CSS file with font-smoothing tweaks (including none). The filename and its filesystem location are arbitrary. Use your favorite coding editor.
Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Style Sheet:
Here is an example with all elements uncommented. Pick the one that works best for your Safari viewing and comment out the others:

• [SOLVED] XFCE Remove Thunar from desktop?

Hi. I've got a annoying problem that i can't seem to find a solution to on my own and furthermore it seems like nobody is discussing the "issue" I'm about to address.
Since my new install of Arch Linux XFCE defaults to have Thunar on my desktop! Adding annoying desktop icons and worst of all: the old right click menu is placed as a submenu in a new Thunar like menu :S
Maybe nice for some. But in this case I'm conservative. I want to be able to access the old XFCE menu directly on a right click on the desktop. How do to accomplish this?
By the way, my old Arch system that has been up to date doesn't seem to be affected by this change, it only appeared on a new install.

I didn't find this info when I last tried Xfce. From http://wiki.xfce.org/releng/4.6/general-info
Xfce's desktop manager, xfdesktop, is the program that draws the desktop background, desktop icons, and previous presents the right-click root menu and middle-click window list menu. The news in Xfce 4.6 is that "Desktop setting → Icons → Appearance → Icon type" setting causes the root menu disappear if something else than "File/launcher icons" is selected. You are still able to have the root menu as an instance in the desktop settings menu, which presents then your right-click in Xfce 4.6. This is set at "Desktop setting → Icons → Appearance → Menu".
I hope you can translate that.

• Disable loading of site from location bar

I've been using Beta 4 for a while, and it seems in the last two builds the location bar auto complete seemed to change a bit. I love how FF will work and pull my recent pages in the location bar as I type parts of the page name. However, it is extremely frustrating for FF to automatically load the page before I even click on the link. Often, it will load a page that is inline with the results put into the bar, but not the desired page. (Ex - I want to visit 10.15.1.10, start typing and after putting in 10.1, it loads 10.19.1.10, the page I just came from. At this point the page has loaded and I need to restart entering the desired address)
Is there any way to make it so the behavior required to load a page is either click or press enter?

It's particularly annoying when your favourite link need a password: the login/password dialogue box appears after every keystroke and grab the focus of the location bar without explicit permission.
