[SOLVED] Xfce 4.8, "no running instance of xfce4-panel has been found"

Hello fellow Archers!
I just upgraded my Xfce installation to version 4.8, but I have a weird problem with xfce4-panel. After upgrading the system via pacman I've rebooted, and after logging in I couldn't see the Xfce's panel anymore! Moreover, a dialog box pops up saying that "no running instance of xfce4-panel has been found". I've tried to fix this issue by launching xfce4-panel through a terminal, and then saving the session before logging out. Now when I log in, I can finally see the panel, but the pop up window keeps coming out every single time. Do you have any suggestions on what could be the issue?

isn't it supposed to start from /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml ? Here's what's in mine:

That second one sounds like malware.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

Smartform run-time error 5825: object has been deleted

While modifying a smartform, I keep on getting run-time error 5825 object has been deleted.
(microsoft visual basic)
I have already restarted sap gui, even deleted my smartform and started another.. it keeps on haunting me.
Anybody an idea how to get rid of this error???

Do you use MS Word 2007 as the ediitor for sapscript and smartforms? In this case you need the support packs specified in SAP note #1115157. Make sure you have the satest SAPGUI patch also.
You can switch to the old graphical editor via transaction I18N -> I18N Customizing -> MS Word as Editor.

Running F110 with message "Proposal has been released 07/22/10 06:42:33"

Dear experts,
When I made proposal through F110, it shows me "Parameters have been entered", then after setting the related parameters, I tried to run Proposal with check on "Start immediately", then the message "Proposal has been released 07/22/10 06:42:33" appears, I also check SM37, but I can not get the spool list.
What could be the reason?

In the first tab of your F110 screen, you'll get the status of your processing. It will update for each event. Check if you are getting things like the following.
Parameters have been entered
Payment proposal has been created
Payment proposal has been edited
Payment run has been carried out
Posting orders: 1 generated, 1 completed
If you are not getting any of the above, you can check that step and analyse the log.
Since you are getting as released, i think the proposal run has not carried out.

My Macpro Intel Core Duo-running OS 10.6.8 has been crashing pretty much with everything I try to open. I find the last resort will be to boot from Snow Leopard system disc. Has anyone experienced this? I can only run Google Chrome.

In the last few days, it seems that my computer has all of a sudden caught a virus. I have never had that happened to a computer, but I have surely heard about it. I can't think of any other reason it is behaving like this. I know that Macs have been pretty much impervious to viruses, but that was before they were the majority of users.
Anyway, what is happening is, my computer keeps crashing whenever I try to open a program, app, document, folder, file, etc. I tried to boot from Drive Genius to establish the problem, but Drive Genius crashed too. I know the last ditch effort (after cleaning and maintenance of disc verification and permissions and repairs, is to reboot from the system disc.
Before I go there I was hoping someone in the community would have a suggestion to help me avoid that ultimate last resort. The tech support guy at Drive Genius told me that probably would have to be the way to go (as in reboot) and if that doesn't clear it up, it's repair time.

As others have pointed out, this isn't malware. That should not be your first (or even fifty-first) thought when your Mac starts misbehaving. For more on this topic, see my Mac Malware Guide.

You mention "cleaning and maintenance." Have you been running utilities claiming to do those things? If so, you may be the victim of an overly-zealous cleaning job, which has removed important files and damaged your system.
If I'm understanding correctly, you're unable to open any applications at all... is that right? Do you have any backups? If you don't have backups, you're in a sticky situation, as it will be difficult to make backups in your current state, but you shouldn't try any kind of repairs without them. (Actually, you shouldn't do anything with your computer without backups, but this is especially important when something is going badly wrong.)
If you have backups, reboot from your Snow Leopard install disc. From there, first, repair the hard drive with Disk Utility. Once that is done, assuming repairs were successful, reinstall the system. You can simply reinstall it on top of your current system, and it will replace any damaged or lost system files with new copies. (You'll also need to update the system via Software Update after reinstalling.)
If you don't have backups, or if Disk Utility can't repair damage, or if the problem continues even after a reinstall, post back with those details.

How to tell if an instance of a bean has been created?

I'm trying to deploy a message driven bean, and from what I can tell it seems to deploy fine. I say this because it deploys my ear successfully and has INFO messages which seem to say all ejb(s) loaded successfully!.
However, I have tried to setup a pool of my mdb, so that a couple of instances pre-load. Here is my sun-ejb-jar.xml file:

As you can see, I'm trying to get 2 of them to be loaded in memory at all times. However, I don't believe it's acutally doing it. The reason is, I have System.out.println statments to output information on ejbCreate and other load steps that I'm not seeing in the main app server window. Shouldn't I see the output from the System.out.println statements?
Also, the mdb is looking for a data source that shouldn't exist, so I should see output from the .printStackTrace statement I have from catch the exceptions, and I'm not seeing those as well.
Finally, I even setup the mdb to write to a text file when it does load, and I can't find the file anywhere under the /AppServer7 directory. All this leads me to believe it is NOT loading any instances of my mdb.
Sooo, is there a way to tell if and how many instances of a bean are loaded? Also, if my depoyment descriptor is wrong, how do I fix it to pre-load instances of my mdb?
And, if it IS loading, where is my system.out.println and .printstacktrace output?

Look in the app store - there are many apps that do anti theft tracking. Many can be defeated by factory resetting the device - it is simply the nature of how Apple restrict developers from locking an app to a device. A factory reset can be done in iTunes 'restore device' or via Settings > Reset, 'erase content & settings' in iOS.
If the company used iCloud for anti theft tracking you can't avoid it being reassociated with iCloud after a factory reset.
I also believe OS X server has similar features for anti theft tracking for corporate customers. So the device may be tied to an OS X server within the company, it;s unclear if the device will become reassociated, it depends on the company setup IIRC.
The simplest answer is to get the company IT to remove whatever they used. If you want to be certain there is no other jailbreaks on the device just factory reset it. That will also remove any data left over from a previous owner.

If that still doesn't work, then the jailbreak may have cause a corruption which is now fatal; that's not uncommon with jailbroken devices. If that is indeed the case, your iPod may be irrecoverable and you'll be shopping for a new one.

Firefox update download for my Mac in zip code 96822 just runs and runs without downloading anything. Has been happening for the past month. ???

Over the past month, when Firefox indicates it has an update for me, and to download it, all I get is "connecting" and nothing happens. We live in 96822. This is for a Mac.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

* Install the new version that you have downloaded

No running xfce4-panel

Hey,
I've encountered a strange problem, all of a sudden my xfce4 won't start properly, when launching, it
tells me that it cannot detect a running instance of xfce4-panel, which is odd, because it is showing
the panel in the buttom of the screen.
Anyway, it works when you hit the "execute" option it provides, but is there a way to make it start by itself?
I tried adding it to applications and startup, from the settings menu.
Just for information:
my PC has an i7, 4gb RAM, GT540M
Arcd Linux with Awesome3 and xfce4. (a lot of xfce4 is stripped away to bring down "weight".)

Payment run has been cancelled

Hi Experts,
We have a problem in Payment Run. In proposal there are 154 line items are ready for payment (status is Green). But once we did the payment run the status is Posting orders: 109 generated, 109 completed and Payment run has been cancelled.
There are 154 vendors in this payment run. But the payment has been done only for first 109 vendors and the remaining vendors are not included in the payment.
Please suggest what could be the reason.

The reasons could be galore.
The open invoice items may not be due or overdue for payment.
Depending on the next run date, APP might have not picked the open items for payment.
The open item might have been blocked for payment.
The vendor master record itself might have a payment block.
Depending on the case to case you need to analyse.

Running only the Xfce4-Pannel

I like running a minimal environment, and typically do most of my work from command line.
(Hey I grew up with command line UNIX!)
For a long time I also ran the Gnome panel, and Nautilus (no desktop) without running a full gnome session. Just to do quick file moves and manipulation and application launching.
Things were great, simple and useful.
Now Gnome 3 has come alone and the gnome-panel is useless and nautilus has changed. YUCK!!!!!
So I started to shop around for a replacement panel, and settled on Xfce4-panel, with Thunar.
Launching Xfce4-panel on its own works, one time after a reboot, but after I logout and log back it it 'resets' all its configuration back to a single blank panel again!
Does anyone run just the Xfce4-panel on its own?
Can it be run without needing a "session manager"?
Any other suggestions?
I tried lxpanel but I can't get it to use larger icons in a side panel, and it looks plain silly with tiny launch buttons on the side of a huge screen. It is also not as configurable at Xfce4-panel.

The xfce4-panel information is saved, and if I reboot and run it it works. But if I then logout and log back it everything gets wiped!
I think I kill something I probably shouldn't when I logout, but I have no idea what.
I still like xfce4-panel better than lxpanel (better configuration of launchers and interfaces well with thunar) but it complaints about no SESSION_MANAGER and it's wiping of the panel configuration is becoming most annoying.

The latest itunes wont run on my computer and has deleted my whole itunes

I began to download the latest itunes as it said i had to, to sync with my ipod.So, as this was downloading it said that an older version has been found and then deleted my whole itunes worth of 1500 songs, which 300 at least of the songs were purchased. I thought ok, this will now at least download the latest itunes and i can re download the songs on itunes, however, everytime i continue to dowload itunes again, i click run and it goes through the process but nothing is coming up on my desktop. I am disgusted with my whole itunes being deleted because the new itunes struggled to download. does any body have any suggestions?

I've got the 2nd gen iTouch and every time I try to sync it simply says "unknown error(13019)" and that that it can't sync. I thought it was my protection software so I completely disabled and tried again, no luck, tried changing cables in case it got damaged some magical way, no luck, I've tried restarting, no luck, it was working fine before the update to 9.1 and now I can't do anything between my iTouch and my computer. I'm running windows Vista home premium, haven't updated that lately so there's no change from when it was working there. the only change to my comp since this new iTunes came out was the new iTunes. please help! or put out a fix, or god I don't care give me a link to the old iTunes and tell me how to get it to revert to that...

Xfce4-panel (Internal plugins need the "X-XFCE-Module-Path")

Is this just me having done something wrong, Is this still not fixed or do I have to copy some files over the old versions in ~/ to make a fix work?
A whole while ago I searched and found that Ubuntu bug 322654 so I thought: "oh, I guess Ubuntu fixed that a while ago, no need to confuse anyone here about it now..." - is this the same thing? Is it fixed in Arch? Am I doing it wrong? Should I have submitted something like that as Arch bug? Should I still? (Where do Babies come from? And how to I make easy money by purchasing the rights to sell an assorted range of great products to local customers in my spare time now?)

- forget to remove the old X-XFCE-Module* entries?

Hi, the flickering on the panel is when the modules tries to load i guess, it stops when the warnings in the "background" stops.
removed the last entry X-XFCE-Moduel...and replaced them with the ones mentioned above in the other post.

[solved] xfce-wavelan-plugin

Hi All,
I have recently installed ArchLinux and have been experimenting ever since. I have my wifi set up through netcfg which uses multiple profiles so I can connect wherever I am. I have also settled with XFCE desktop environment, and am happy so far but I have a tendancy to swap and change a lot.
The on issue I have is when attempting to use the wavelan plugin in XFCE. As soon as I add it to the panel it crashes and in tty1 I get:
sh: /sbin/ifconfig: No such file or directory
I know that net-tools has been deprecated, is there anyway round this?
I tried searching for this issue by googling and on the forum/wiki. Apologies if it has been already solved!

I guess net-tools is technically depreciated, but I'm used to it and it seems to work fine.
In the interest of the most simple & elegant solution, how about
pacman -S net-tools
However, (and I run XFCE too), I recommend NetworkManager & network-manager-applet for WiFi as it makes dealing with encrypted networks much easier.
