[SOLVED] XFCE - no internal automatic screen locking?

Hello, Arch lovers & XFCE users!
I can't see an option "Lock screen after..." in XFCE power manager, only turning screen off or hibernating. Is it really impossible to make XFCE automatically lock screen after some amount of time, by XFCE settings only, not i.e. by xscreensaver's ones (I prefer xlock), or I've just watched inattentively through various XFCE settings? I'm really confused not to see that option with others in power manager. My XFCE version is 4.10.

Unless you really prefer an "internal" function for this, you could use xautolock and put something like this in your ~/.xinitrc:
xautolock -time 10 -locker xlock &
XFCE does not contain a timed screenlock. You'll have to use xscreensaver or xautolock. I chose xautolock, i3lock and a custom xflock4:
% cat /usr/local/bin/xflock4
#!/bin/sh
xautolock -locknow

  • Xscreensaver automatic screen lock

    Here is my scenario:
I'm currently running Solaris 10 05/08, Sun Ray Server Software 4.0, Kiosk Mode, with Sun Ray Windows Connector 2.0. I'm also using XSreenSaver 5.02, not sure if that makes a difference.
But, what I'm trying to troubleshoot is how I can globally set the screensaver lock screen after 15 minutes of inactivity. I'm able to set it for myself, but I need this policy to be set for every user.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    - Mo

Set it up for one user and then copy $HOME/.xscreensaver to every users home directory. As long as you keep it generic it should work. You should be able to script this.

  • XFCE - switch to US keyboard layout on screen lock

I have a dual keyboard layout, and when xscreensaver triggers, I have no indication which language am I in. This is not a problem with gnome screen saver, but with xscreensaver that comes with xfce4 there is no indicator, which is annoying. Also, no indication that caps-lock is on, but at least this could be detected by the LED.
I modified /usr/bin/xflock4, adding following line to beginning of the file:
    /usr/bin/setxkbmap -layout "us,ru" -option "grp:lalt_lshift_toggle,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
it works, but only when I lock the screen using "lock screen" button on xfce panel. When screen locks up due to timeout, keyboard layout stays as-is. It looks like there is a different command being used by power manager to turn off screen. Anyone knows how to hook into this?

    More detail:  Some keys on the keyboard do work, ie: caps lock toggles the led, and the function keys across the top seem to work {that is I can adjust brightness, and so forth}
the letter and numbers, and perhap others do not work.

  • GNOME Screen Lock

Very simple, I dislike the automatic screen lock in GNOME. However, when I go to Settings > Privacy the Screen Lock option is grayed out, I'm not allowed to change it. I've tried editing the gdm/custom.conf to start under the users group, and when that didn't work, under my login name. No dice. So, does somebody have a simple fix?

Have you installed the gnome-extra meta package?
I installed gnome, gnome-extra and gdm. It works for me.

  • When my iPhone 4S (with ios7) experiences a failed call while connected to my Bluetooth hands free in my car(screen locked) the failed call appears on the locked screen, as it should, then when I unlock the phone it automatically redials the failed call,

When my iPhone 4S (with ios7) experiences a failed call while connected to my Bluetooth hands free in my car(screen locked) the failed call appears on the locked screen, as it should, the problem arises whenever I unlock the phone, it automatically redials the last failed call, it doesn't do this with missed calls that are on the locked screen, if any. It is really annoying as sometimes the phone doesn't respond to attempts to end the call before it connects to the number. I then have to explain that it was my phone and not me, I look like an idiot, which I don't really need any extra help with!! Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to stop missed call from showing in the locked screen but it might be associated with the failed calls and therefore be the only resolution

I have had the same issue which was driving me mad but think I have just found a way around it. In iOS 7 if you swipe up on the lock screen to access quick settings and go into timer then click the home button you get into the phone without calling the person back. Not a great 'fix' but hope it works for you. Come on Apple this isn't good enough, fix this bug otherwise you will lose your customers.

If you wish to have slock start automatically after a certain idle time, you can use xautolock--also in the repos.  Something like this in your .xinitrc (or autostart.sh) should do the trick:
xautolock -time 5 -locker slock -nowlocker slock -detectsleep -corners 000+ -cornerdelay 3 &
This will also lock the screen if you place the mouse cursor in the lower right corner for 3 seconds.

  • Is ist possible to set my iPod to automatically go into Screen Lock?

I ask because I tend to leave my iPod out on my desk at school, and I also tend to wander around during the day.
Should it get stolen, the thief would then be discouraged.
I would also be able to identify it during the search.
    Thanks!

The new iPod does actually have a screen lock. To have it automatically lock http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302255
it says something about when your iPod goes to sleep when it wakes up it will request password, so when you leave your iPod alone make sure it's not playing so it will sleep.

  • [SOLVED] gnome-screensaver bug? unintended lock screen behaviour

Everytime I close my laptop lid, the screen locks. I am fine with this EXCEPT when I am using two screens. I watch movies with my laptop and I like to close the lid because it blocks my reciever from getting the signal from my remote to change the volume. With gnome 3.4, I have not been able to do this unless I disable lock screen completely.
    [conner@arch-laptop ~]$ gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power
    org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power active true

    org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power time-action 120
    org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power time-critical 300
As you can see in the middle of this code block that closing the lid is supposed to do nothing but that is not the case. What I want is for the screen to lock when I close my laptop lid only if there is one screen or not at all. I could disable the lock screen completely through gsettings but that is not what I want either. Any help would be much appreciated and no I do not want to use xscreensaver

bump. any ideas. has this bug already been reported?
Edit: Found a way to fix this. Go into brightness and screen, then change lock off when screen turns blank. So basically, changing laptop lid close in gnome tweak tool or in gsettings to nothing doesn't matter since in the brightness and lock, the setting is to lock screen whenever it is turned off and obviously the screen is turned off since closing the lid does on just about every laptop. Marking as solved.

  • [Solved] Screen locker freezes display

I have been using xautolock (2.2-2) with a locker (recently switched to i3lock) for a couple of years now, with no complaints. Over the last week or so, probably related to Xorg updates (currently on 1.11.2-2), whenever slock was activated by xautolock, the entire display would freeze.
Entering my password had no effect, I couldn't switch to console - the only way to recover the machine was SSH in and reboot.
Frustratingly, there was nothing in Xorg logs, syslogs or dmesg.
I switched back to slock (0.9.6) and the same thing happened. Swapping xautolock out for sinac fixed the issue.
While I am happy enough with sinac, has anyone else experienced this? If it's a bug, I'd like corroboration so I can report it.

It seems I was too qucik to blame xautolock. Same issue with sinac -- which leads me to believe it is graphics card/driver related.
Card is an Intel 945GME and the driver is the standard xf86-video-intel. Downgrading to 2.16.0-1 seems to have staved it off for the time being...

  • Plasma 5 screen lock

There seems to be no way to disable screen locking in the new Plasma 5 interface.  The System Settings section for screen locking only allows a max value of 99 min and there is no section for disabling screen locking altogether.
Does anyone know of a method to completely disable screen locking?

It's not possible to enter "Never" there, it's a counter field. I wonder what KDE devs were thinking when they introduced screen locking that it's not possible to disable.
It changes to 0 automatically when you input 0, so that should solve this.

  • Screen Timeout vs Screen Lock

It would be nice to be able to have separate settings for the screen timeout vs when the screen locks.  Currently, when the screen turns off it is automatically locked.
Are there any plans to separate these 2 functions?
For example, I would like to be able to have the screen go off after 30 or 60 seconds and be able to bring it back just by touching it but have the screen lock after a few minutes of inactivity.  I believe this was the case on previous phones.
    Thanks,
    Rob.

Rib, just touch the top edge power key to being the device out of sleep state in one touch. Without having to enter the security password.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • WiFi issue: Is it possible to change WiFi settings in a way that it does not switch off in the screen-lock mode?

I have iPhone 4 and 4s. WiFi is automatically switching off on both phones when they are inactive (screens are locked). It is connecting back after some seconds I unlocke the phone. But because I have no subscribtion for the Cellular data usage, I am being cuted from Internet all screen-locked period. All that time people are not able to reach me by email, skype, or other programs using Internet. It is quite uncomfortable, especially when waiting for something important!  Is there a way to change this setting?

The iPhone does not shut down WiFi completely when asleep. It does use a power conservation mode. You should still receive notifications. There is no setting for this. It should work for you as it does for me if you don't have a network problem.
There are lots of problems reported with D-Link routers and they don't have a great reputation. If there is no help available from D-Link you may want to consider installing the DD-WRT firmware. It's available for the D-Link 615. See here for information: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index
By the way, you do have Notifications enabled for the Apps you are talking about right? See Settings -> Notifications and Mail, etc.

  • IPod Nano Screen Lock bug

I think I have discovered a bug in the iPod Nano software. I'm using the latest software available as for today.
I lock the iPod Nano's screen and as expected, the graphical display of a combination lock appears. I insert the iPod Nano on to the Universal Dock and then proceed to control the Nano from the Apple Remote. It works partly. I am able to pause and play music and after a song finishes, it goes to the next one. I am not, however, able to fast forward, rewind, or skip tracks. I am able to play and pause, plus the Nano goes to the next track automatically after it finishes play the current one.
Seems to me a bug! I would imagine that the screen lock is supposed to lock all kinds of control to the iPod except entering password.

connect it to itunes and it will unlock
