[Solved] Xfce not Maintaining assigned resolution

Hello people,
From Thursday and been having a annoying bug with Xfce which is that it does not keep the settings screen resolution placed after a Shutdown / Restart. I mean I set the resolution of my monitor to 1920x1080 and after turning off the computer or restart it, on the next boot resolution 1920x1080 is not maintained but is changed to 1024x768, so that on every boot I set the resolution.
I have a Monitor AOC 22 "with native resolution of 1920x1080 and Nvidia graphics card with proprietary drivers
What could be causing this error? Any idea how to fix it?
regards

Look through your /var/log/Xorg.0.log.   Read the parts about EDID, available screen resolutions, and the resolution selected.  Look for something about "Fuzzy" determination of aspect ratio and tell us if you find something as such.

  • [SOLVED] X not quite right (resolution, driver, color depth)

I am followed the instructions in the Beginner's Guide, and I am quite happy with my system. However although I am certain I installed the open Radeon driver, any time I enable it, X just gives me a blank screen. If I can ctrl-alt-backspace out of it, the screen is really dim and I can barely read it. So I am stuck with the Vesa driver. As I understand it, Vesa doesn't support my monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050. The highest I have been able to get is 1280x1024. Also I would like to use 32-bit color if I could, but that is not as important.
Below is my xorg.conf as it currently stands. I used hwd to generate it. Actually hwd generated two xorg.conf files (xorg.conf.radeon and xorg.conf.vesa). The radeon file never worked, but the vesa version did work right away, so that's the one I started to tweak.

Thanks for helping me with this. By the way does Compiz Fusion support the Vesa driver?

  • NVIDIA-340xx driver not correctly assigning resolution on console

I have an NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700 and I must use the legacy driver for CUDA. X can assign the resolution properly, but the virtual console has a lower resolution. When I tried it out with the nouveau driver, the resolution was fine.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

headkase wrote:The proprietary driver does not support kernel mode setting which is required for native resolution virtual consoles.  The open-source Nouveau driver does support KMS and that's why it is at native resolution.  I believe you can look into a framebuffer like fbdev to work around the issue a bit.  Google.
That's not entirely correct. Kernel modesetting does not automatically give you a high resolution console. It's only because the open source KMS drivers have an internal fbcon driver that you get a high res console. The Nvidia driver uses kernel modesetting too (and they've had it for years before the open driver got it), but it's their own proprietary implementation that has a different interface than the open KMS drivers, and this proprietary implementation does not have an internal fbcon driver, it's only used by their X driver.
To get a high res console with the Nvidia driver requires using vesafb/uvesafb (when booting in BIOS mode) or efifb (when booting in UEFI mode). But this limits you to resolutions in the VBIOS of the GPU, and very often widescreen resolutions aren't there.

  • [solved] xfce not starting with x

just trying to switch from gnome to xfce. and i've got most of it working great. but i cant actually get xfce to start automatically
i've changed from gdm to slim and changed that in demons in /etc/rc.conf and i've changed .xinitrc and commented out 'exec gnome-session', and added in 'exec startxfce4'. slim starts great, and i can login from that, but for some reason, xfce wont start when x starts, i have to manually start it by typing startxfce4 at the terminal that comes up.
i followed the setup guide in the wiki under xfce.
does anyone know whats causing this?
Last edited by redefine (2008-08-03 00:40:49)

    heres my .xinitrc.
its exactly the same as i had working with gnome, except i commented out exec gnome-session and added exec xfce4-session
    #!/bin/sh
    # ~/.xinitrc
    # Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
    exec xterm
    exec xfce4-session
    # exec gnome-session
    # exec startkde
    # exec startxfce4
    # exec icewm
    # exec openbox
    # exec blackbox
    # exec fluxbox
    # exec ratpoison
    # exec dwm
    # ... or any other WM of your choosing ...
EDIT...ok i fixed it, dont worry.
i removed 'exec xterm' from .xinitrc, and i changed  'xfce' to 'xfce4-session' in /etc/slim.conf where you choose the wm. yay

  • [SOLVED] xfce does not start after SLiM login :S

hello, i have been following the wiki's to setup X, and xfce (which works when i start it from CLI (startxfce4)), and i have installed SLiM which works too!
Anyway, i have setup SLiM to startup via /etc/inittab, (Runlevel 5).  I use ~/.xinitrc to run my xfce WM:
    #the only uncommented line is:
    exec startxfce4
The problem is that once SLiM loads, and i login, X seems to crash (i see the CLI login) before SLiM respawns, and i am required to login again.  I think it must be a simple issue of xfce not actually being started?
i have tried changing startxfce4 to xfce-session, neither work. The login code for SLiM is (/etc/slim.conf):
    login_cmd         exec /bin/bash -login ~/.xinitrc %session
and from the same file, my available sessions are:
    sessions          xfce4,icewm,wmaker,blackbox
So, ive heard of some other people who seemed to experience this same issue, but i cant seem to resolve it like they did   anyway, i think i must be missing something and would like some help? thanks.

Many thanks Deuterium. You saved my day! I posted a new thread and finally found your answer. The arch community is great. Now the question is how this file got permission changed?
    [EDIT]
After few tests I noticed that while X is working automount is broken again and no possibilty to go to standby either. This was in the past solved by going to the latest version of consolekit. The problem is that I'm already running consolekit 0.4.1-2.
Here is the message I get when inserting a USB drive:
    Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.38" (uid=1000 pid=3437 comm="exo-mount) interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member="Mount" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.freedesktop.Hal" (uid=0 pid=2806 comm="/usr/sbin/hald)).
    [EDIT2]
The above error came from the fact that when I got stuck with no WM I modifed the .xinitrc to only have 'exec startxfce4' rather than my original '
exec ck-launch-session startxfce4'. Then after fixing the WM issue I forgot to modify .xinitirc back.

    Hi,
I feel that this material and order is make to order scenario.
    Kindly check that first?
If yes then check the requirement type which is determined? Assign correct requirement type.
Secondly also check whether you have maintained profit center in your new material.
    Hope this solves your problem.

  • Customisation for F5 is not maintain in j_1iexcref  table

    Dear Friends,
In our business process some invoices are not relevant for Excise like F5 or Scrap Sales etc.
After creation of Invoice we go for Batch Utilization in J1i3
By this we create 1000 to 1500 excise invoice every day per plant.
in that day if we created any non excisable invoice like f5 or scrap sales invoices.
That day it fetch error:- "Customization for F5 is not maintained in J_1IEXCREF table"
Due to non excisable invoice we are not maintained in "Assign Billing type to Delivery Type"
How we can solved this issue without going J1IIN individual excise invoices generate.
    Regards
    Arun

If it is a manufacturing plant, you are suppose to create an excise invoice even if any material is not excisable.  This is from excise point of view.  I am not sure, whether the client is a manufacturer.
Coming to the requirement, in J1I3, you have the option of selecting "SD Document category".  Here select "M"  and execute, assuming that in F5 you have not made any changes in VOFA.
    thanks
