[SOLVED] XFCE Panel Icons

Does anyone know why my panel icons are black?
Like such: http://i.imgur.com/rhaLd.png
I haven't migrated from any other DE, this started happening after I enabled Compiz on startup(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … icon.22.29).
Any ideas on how to set them to white, or use the icon set from the Xubuntu panel?
Thanks in advance.
SOLVED: Elementary Xubuntu icon theme installed, needed to specify "Elementary Xubuntu Dark" vs "Elementary Xubuntu".

You can't actually move stuff freely in XFCE panels; moving only changes the order of things.  You have to use separators (which can be invisible and have the option to expand) to get stuff in particular places.  I have eight invisible separators on my panel, and the 'Window Buttons' item expands to fill all free space, allowing me to place things on the 'end' of my panel.

  • [SOLVED] xfce-panel causing problems with mouse/touchpad

    Since upgrading the packages below  I mouseclicks occasionally do not work.  Also scrolling using the scrollwheel and touchpad doesn't start sometimes. I determined it is not a problem with the mouse or touchpad because 'xev' shows the correct events firing. Also  I see the icon change from arrow to hand when clicking.
    <edit>
    It appears that "xfce4-panel" is the cause. I use tint2 instead of  xfce-panel, but the process running an empty panel is started by default and  somehow interfered with mouse and touchpad events. solved it by removing it from the session, and comment it out in /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml

  • Gvim xfce panel icon

    Hello,
    I am desperately trying to set the gvim icon file for the xfce panel(faenza icon theme to be precise), but without any luck. I have tried to edit the gvim.desktop situated in /usr/share/applications/. I obviously edited the icon key, but without any luck either. I have tried full path and with only the name. I even tried to find the old icon to try and delete it, but gvim really seems stubborn.
    What have I missed ?
    Thank you in advance for any response

  • Huge icons in xfce panel system tray

    Hi,
    i have huge icons in xfce panel system tray for pidgin and transmission... Any idea how to fix it?

    Are you using xfce4-power-manager in xfce4?  I can see that it appears that you are using the xfce4 panel, but it is not clear that you are using the rest of it.  If you are, isn't it started by the .desktop file?  In those files you can specify the icon used, so you might be able to simply change it to something more common to most icon sets.
    Personally, I don't use icons or .desktop files, so I'm not sure that this is actually good advice.  But it is the first thing that came to mind.

  • Xfce panel and Pidgin buddy list maximizing on tray icon click

    Curious if anyone else has seen this behavior in Xfce with the system tray in the xfce panel:
    1.) Start pidgin unmaximized.
    2.) Click tray icon to iconify.
    3.) Click tray icon to restore buddy list: original dimensions retained.
    4.) Click tray icon to iconify.
    5.) Click tray icon to restore buddy list: maximized.
    Trying to figure it out.  There is already a bug filed in the arch bugzilla here : http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3969

    I have none of the above problems but i may hint about using a new user (or backup your configs and start with a clean session) to see if it still happens. Since the problem came with the switch maybe the problem is there.

  • [Solved] XFCE 4.8 Ghost panel on Second Monitor

    I've found that when maximizing a window on my second monitor, there is a 28 pixel "gap" where my panel would be on that screen [If I used a panel on that one] upon maximizing a window. If I set my panel to autohide, this goes away, but I find auto-hiding panels rather annoying, and am wondering if there's any way to fix/workaround this. If it helps, I'm using the command "xrandr --output LVDS1 --right-of HDMI1" to extend my desktop onto the second monitor.
    Here's a screenshot of what happens http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/3470 … 103502.png
    Edit: Latest version of xfce4-panel fixes the issue.

    kinu wrote:No way with Twinview (or I don't know how to do it). I will try with xrandr.
    Yeah, seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GUI, but it seems that it's possible [and necessary] to configure it with Xorg's configuration files if you want more freedom to position your monitors.
    Since some extra configuration is needed with the Nvidia driver, xrandr alone might not be ideal in your situation. [I mentioned it before since I never needed to mess with my Xorg configuration, and an .xprofile script based around xrandr works better with my Intel-based laptop. ]
    Xorg's config files seem like a better choice for you, and if you need to change monitor layouts on the fly, xrandr should still work once you have a good Xorg configuration. If you choose to go this route, you'll probably find this section of the Xorg wiki page very useful: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Nvidia_2
    Since you'd need to specify a position for your second monitor to workaround this, you'd need to use a line like this, instead of the "RightOf" one in the example configuration: ' Screen       1 "Screen1" x y ' where x,y is the location of the upper left corner of that display.
    [If a configuration file already exists, make sure you create a backup of it first. Worst-case scenario, a bad config file will prevent X from starting, and you could just restore the backup from the command-line.]
    I also discovered that offsetting it by the exact height of your panel seems to cause problems on your primary monitor [at least with the latest version of the XFCE panel]. Upon rebooting, windows would not respect my panels, and instead would go underneath them when maximized. Although, by offsetting my second monitor by a little more [1920x280 instead of 1920x284], both monitors allow windows to maximize correctly, so if you run into the same problem, something like that should fix it.

  • [SOLVED] XFCE customize menu help: applications and directory menu

    I've been trying to make some progress with customizing XFCE menus. There are two menus I'm trying to create, listed below.
    Yes, i have read http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu
    No, I'm not saying I understood all of it.
    1. I want to have a custom Applications menu that lists all installed applications, without categorization. Preferably alphabetical. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with adding a lot of <include> directives.
    Here's what I've tinkered with so far, which produces categories of apps.

    2. I want to make a different Directory menu, possibly by implicating a custom Applications menu. If I could locate the .menu file for the Directory menu panel item, I would like to make minor adjustments to the menu, and invoke it through the Applications menu panel item.
    I should state that what I'm trying to accomplish is
    a) to remove the submenu-like options with the Directory menu (open Folder, open in Terminal) to have one-click to open the folder directory
    b) to add a label next to the panel icon (aesthetics), which would be accomplished through using the Applications menu panel item.
    Edit: clarity
    Last edited by heyitstallchris (2014-07-31 02:02:36)

    Firstly, I'll tackle menu 1.
    No need to create an include line for every .desktop file. Do the following:
    $ mkdir ~/.config/menus
    $ cd ~/.config/menus
    $ touch custom-apps.menu
    Edit the file we have just created and populate it with the following:
    <!DOCTYPE Menu PUBLIC "-//freedesktop//DTD Menu 1.0//EN"
    "http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/menu-spec/1.0/menu.dtd">
    <Menu>
    <Name>Applications</Name>
    <DefaultAppDirs/>
    <DefaultDirectoryDirs/>
    <DefaultMergeDirs/>
    <Include>
    <Category>X-Xfce-Toplevel</Category>
    <Category>Settings</Category>
    <Category>Accessibility</Category>
    <Category>Core</Category>
    <Category>Legacy</Category>
    <Category>Utility</Category>
    <Category>Development</Category>
    <Category>Education</Category>
    <Category>Game</Category>
    <Category>Graphics</Category>
    <Category>Audio</Category>
    <Category>Video</Category>
    <Category>AudioVideo</Category>
    <Category>Network</Category>
    <Category>Office</Category>
    <Category>System</Category>
    </Include>
    <Layout>
    <Merge type="all"/>
    </Layout>
    </Menu>
    Now just create an application menu panel item and point it to the custom menu file we just created.
    This will display every application installed on your system, and any custom .desktop entries you may create (as long as they are set in one of the categories in the menu file). Add or remove categories as you need.
    If you want to have the "Run Program" and other "Action" items that are in the default Xfce menu, add a category line for "X-Xfce-Toplevel"
    Alternatively, you can forego all the <Category></Category> lines and simply use <All/>
    [EDIT] and since this is using garcon (Xfce's menu library), the apps will be in alphabetical order [/EDIT]
    Cheers.

  • Can I have window previews with Docky? Or even the native XFCE Panel?

    In Windows 7, hovering over the window icon buttons will show the preview for the window, is that  possible in Docky/XFCE Panel's Windows Button?

    Here's some more info, in case anyone has any ideas.
    I tried reinstalling the Flip4Mac Safari plug-in and Windows Media Player. Still doesn't work.
    With WMP, I can cut and past the Netflix preview into the player and it will play, but I can't get it to start automatically.
    With QuickTime, even if I cut and paste the URL into it, I get an error: Alert Invalid URL.
    Any idea how I can get these preview to play automatically?
    Thanks!

    That's what you think.  I have a lot of brain storms when I've had a few (not all 12).
    And my parents are passed.  So I guess I need to ask my wife for a hug (however, she is at work).
    I want a hug now, not after 6pm.
    Anyway, I think, that you can move the panel if you uncheck the "lock panel" option. I just accidentally figured that out. Should have known the answer was something simple
    I did un-check the 'lock panel' box, and couldn't move that top bar (upon using the default).
    So as a I said, I removed both of the newly created panels, and redid them from scratch.

  • [SOLVED] xmonad + panel logging applets

    Until recently I used xmonad-log-applet, but after the last update, xmonad is unable to connect to dbus. I get the following error:
    xmonad-x86_64-linux: D-Bus Error (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply): Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
    As this is quite a generic message, google wasn't of much help. and I know practically nothing about dbus, so I do not to know where to start looking for the problem. As an alternative I also tried this, which seems to take a simpler approach. But when I try to load it into my (xfce) panel (via XfApplet) I get this message:
    An internal error occurred and the applet could not be loaded.
    which is also quite informative... Starting a "real" gnome panel also doesn't help. Here I have the suspicion of some missing dependencies, although the program compiles just fine.
    Does anyone have some clues?

    I deserve a big facepalm! For the gnome-socket-applet I didn't export the GNOME_SOCKET_APPLET_PORT variable, so the program didn't start. I should have RTFM in more detail. But the socket-applet works at my computer at home, but not on the one at work
    I will mark this topic as solved, as I can use the dbus solution at work and the socket solution at home, but I am still intrigued why the difference arises. If I find the time, I will try to port the gnome-socket-applet to a native xfce panel applet and hopefully it will be more stable.
    BTW I uploaded a PKGBUILD for gnome-socket-applet

    libxfce4ui-1.so.0 => /usr/lib/libxfce4ui-1.so.0 (0x00007f681fa05000)
    libxfce4util.so.7 => /usr/lib/libxfce4util.so.7 (0x00007f681ecd8000)
    libxfce4util.so.6 => not found
    I figure I have some package somewhere that didn't upgrade properly or something. Here's the list of xfce packages I have installed:

    Any ideas?

  • [SOLVED] XFCE - Incorrect windows placement

    Hi,
    I'm currently having a issue with XFCE's window placement. In the settings panel, under Window Manager Tweaks > Placement, window placement is set to Center for all windows, but this option has no effect. I tried changing it to place windows under the mouse, but it also has no effect on the windows placement. Windows keep opening on the screen corners.
    I checked the forums for similar problems, and found some results, but none of the solutions worked for me. Also, those are quite old topics.
    [Solved] XFCE - Having Trouble Centering Windows
    [solved] Xfce4, new windows position
    Xfce 4.8 xfwm4 window placement settings no longer have any effect.
    This is not a big problem, but I'm kind of picky, so if anyone knows a solution to this problem, please share it.
    Best Regards,
    Agkel0s

    Shouldn't you actually have it on the maximum value?
    I believe the way this works is that the size (or ratio, the option is actually called placement_ratio IIRC and is a ratio of window size vs screen size) you specify here is the minimum to trigger "smart placement." If the window isn't (at least) of that size, then the default (i.e. center or under mouse pointer, as defined below) will be used. So if you want every window to use the default placement, you should set the minimum size for smart placement to be as large as possible. (In fact, I believe with a ratio set to 100 (i.e. slider to the max) it should always use the default placement, regardless of window size, which is want you're after if I'm not wrong.)
    If even with the slider to the max you get new windows placed using smart placement, then it sounds like a bug I'd say.
    (Also, just as FYI and though you might simply want all windows to be centered, I wasn't happy with xfwm's smart placement myself, you can see this topic for a (IMO) better alternative.)

  • Xfce-Panel

    Hi,
    does anyone know a method to prevent the xfce-panels from overlapping other applications?
    Thx in advance

    While that works, how do you see the panel when you want to see it?
    When I hover over it with my mouse the panel pops up and the opacity is 0%. The only thing that is in my XFCE panel is the systray. I use tint2 as a taskbar and rightclick on the desktop to bring on the menu. I never work fullscreen and I don't use wine.
    Oh, I get it. You checked the "make active panel opaque" box. That definately works.
    I wouldn't mark this as solved though, since the OP wants a slightly different behaviour (I would prefer that too).

  • [Solved] xfce 4.3.99.1??

    I would like to try xfce 4.3.99.1 (Also known as 4.4 Beta1). Is there an Arch package that I can use? I am getting to like xfce more and more. BUT, xfce dosn't seem to be popular with Arch users.
    Thanks for any insight, jimbo

    Xfdesktop is fixed in my repos now.
    You managed to catch an update that just happened to have a bug with xfdesktop not showing desktop icons for anyone, even thought it was built in.
    And just to be clear, this is NOT xfce 4.3.99, this is xfce-svn. It's even newer than 4.3.99.
    I just spent all afternoon failing to get xfce4-svn to work. I started with a fresh install of Gimmick iso. Add mousetrap repo to /etc/pacman.conf. Then pacman -Syu and editing /boot/grub/menu.lst so it would boot. Then a fresh install of xorg, xorg-apps, xorg-xdm, xterm, and xf86-video-nv. Then configure with xorgconfig. Everything worked OK. Startx brought up the usual cheesy two GUI terminal windows.
    Then pacman -S xfce4-svn.
    startx fails with several messages about missing files, no such file or directory, etc. Changed PATH to include /opt/xfce dirs.
    Now startx brings up a black xfce desktop where none of the panel icons work, no right click menu, desktop settings to allow xfce to manage desktop does nothing and won't stay clicked. In short, a totally useless desktop and I was not able to fix it with endless "fixes".
    Oh well, Arch is easy to install and Xfce 4.2 does work.
    Good luck, jimbo
