[SOLVED] Xlockmore missing fonts

Hey, I'm using xlockmore and it always defaults to the font "fixed" because it can't find any fonts. I have been trying to change fonts since a long time now. Some googling reveals that it apparently looks for fonts in /usr/share/xlock/fonts but this directory is absent on my stock install from pacman -S xlockmore.
I tried making this directory and adding a few fonts to this but it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know how to fix this? Also, can I change the size of the fonts being used in the screensaver?
Appreciate all help. Thanks.

The manpage says you should use '-font fontname' and / or '-messagefont fontname' option. Have you tried that?
-font fontname
The font option sets the font to be used on the prompt screen.
       -planfont fontname
option sets the font to be used for the text that is displayed in the lower part of
            the password screen.
       -fpsfont fontname
The fpsfont option sets the font to be used in the frame per sec display,  used  if
            showfps is on.
for flag, marquee and nose modes.  If one exists, it takes precedence over the for‐
            tune program, messagesfile and message.
       -messagefont fontname
The  messagefont  option sets the font to be used in the mode.  Currently used only
for flag, marquee, and nose modes.

  • [SOLVED] Help, Missing Fonts in Openoffice's menu.

Hi, after an update suddenly the fonts from Openoffice and K3B are gone, had this problem since KDE 4.1 and before the 4.2 update I uninstall KDE and delete .kde and .kde4 folders, install KDE 4.2 from the repos and initially everything was working fine, but after a new update in wich was included openoffice the fonts are gone again. I've serch in the forums but I can't figure out what's wrong, so I came here to see if anybody has any ideas about the cause of this issue. Thanks in advance.

  • Photoshop CC: Missing Fonts on Startup, only a few fonts are displayed as replacement options

I have a Photoshop document which uses some Fonts that I don't have on my Windows PC. When I open the document, I get a Dialog Box called "Missing Fonts", which states:
"Some fonts used in this document are missing. You can sync matching fonts from Typekit, or replace missing fonts with a default or different font used in this document"
This text suggests that I can only replace missing fonts with other fonts already being used in this document. However, I want to replace a missing font with a font that is not yet used in this document. Why can I only replace a missing font with another font already used in the document? For example, I want to replace "Helvetica Neue" with "Liberation Sans", however Liberation Sans is not offered in the Dropdown box, even though it is installed, as it is not yet used in the document. What is the point of only allowing to replace a missing font with a font that is already used in the document, and not with any font installed on the system??
    Thanks,
    best regards,

  • Missing Fonts in Illustrator CS4

I have been having an issue with the "missing font"
My problem is that Illustrator recognizes the fonts sometimes and not other times.  I have had no problems for the past week or so and I just restarted my computer and now a number of fonts that worked fine suddenly are replaced with the "missing font" default.
The fonts I'm currently concerned with are all in the default LaTeX family (i.e. cmr10, cmmi10, cmbx10, etc...) I have all of them installed on my computer and they work fine in every other application.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on or how I can solve this problem?  Why does illustrator "lose" them and how do I get them back? !!
    Thanks!

Thanks for the link.  I'm actually using Windows 7 and in the mean time my illustrator "found" the fonts again (still can't figure out why).  I don't know how well the solutions for the Mac OS will work but I'll take a look.  If anyone else comes up with an answer I'd love to hear it!
    Thanks!

  • Missing Fonts in PDF

    Hello everybody
I have a font problem somwhere in the chain Powerpoint->PDF->InDesign. When i Import the generated PDF, InDesign is reporting missing fonts in it. Now, there is a difference in which and where the fonts are missing (11 vs 31 errors) depending on which way i use to generate the PDF
    a) via "publishing as PDF" from Powerpoint 2010
    b) via "Print as" using the PDF printer
When checking the PDF's, i can see that corresponding fonts were embedded into the PDF (it might be that there is some confusion about naming of these fonts. For instance, PDF reports an embedded font "Arial" with "Actual name: ArialMT" while Indesign is simply missing "Arial", without any further information except that it has the status "not embedded").
Strangely, there also are missing fonts that i can find nowhere in the Powerpoint file (But several people worked on this presentation). I tried several versions and installations of Windows/Powerpoint/InDesign, without luck.
Workaround for now is export all slides as PNG. Any ideas what i can do to solve this problem?
    Many thanks for assistance,
    Andreas

Part of your problem is associated with PowerPoint 2010.
Microsoft's "save as PDF" leaves a bit to be desired at best.
Acrobat 9 (and obviously the earlier versions of Acrobat) do not support any of the Office 2010 components via the PDFMaker component.
If you print to the "Adobe PDF" PostScript printer driver instance from PowerPoint 2010 to create PDF, make sure you use joboptions that embed all fonts. The "out of the box" Standard joboptions do not do that. Try High Quality Print joboptions instead.
(The next full version of Acrobat will fully support PDFMaker with Office 2010! Even then, it will be critical to set joboptions that embed all fonts with no exceptions!)

  • Missing Fonts in Photoshop CS4

I opened an existing CS2 photoshop file in CS4 and I get a missing font error. The font that it can't find is on my system.
How do I "add" this font so PS can see it?
    Thanks.

Yeah, I hear ya. But this seems to be a big complaint with 64 bit systems. And since all fonts show up and work fine in all other programs... seems like another adobe bug to me.
If you want to be a bit specific, Arial has 10 types. Only two show up. Regular and bold. And I'm not alone with this problem.
This was a bug (from what I read) in office 2007. But I never used 2007. However it wasn't a problem in office 2003 nor is it with my current version of 2010. As I said, no problems whatsoever with anything except... photoshop cs4 64. (works fine in 32 bit vista)
Now, FWIW, I haven't played much with font directories in the past, but it seems win7 is putting them into their own... kind of "folder". (could be wrong)
That is, in arials case, for instance, they aren't spread out. As... arial normal, black, bold, etc. They seem to be all lumped in to one. Click on it and they all open for display and are all there but I don't remember them that way in older windows progs.
But as I said, everything is fine in notepad, wordpad, excel, word, etc. etc. etc. A corrupt font is one thing, but I can't see a corrupt font working in everything but one program. And they DO work in dreamweaver.
Ok... update. As I said, tried putting them (the arials) in the adobe font directory (which I said was empty). Nothing. Tried again and it duplicated them. Still nothing. Went in and dumped the duplicates... seems to be working.
So, problem kinda solved. Just no clue why.
I need a drink and a few excedrins.

  • Missing fonts warning when opening a Keynote file

I'm using Keynote 2.0.2 on a Mini Mac. Having searched for an answer to the ubiquitous "Missing Font" problem when opening a Keynote file, I was wondering if upgrading to the latest version would solve this problem. Unless it does, we would have to think twice about upgrading the software. A lot of users seem to have the problem with version 3 too. Does anyone have a solution to this? The presentation runs perfectly well, but the warning message is annoying and doesn't look nice when presenting to clients. HELP!
1.42 GHz Mac Mini PPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1GB DDR SDRAM

I've experience this same problem multiple times. There is a way to get rid of the troublesome font, thereby getting rid of the annoying message. I may be glossing over a step or two, but it goes something like this:
    (1) In the Finder, right click on the Keynote file and select "Show Package Contents"
(2)Locate the index.apxl.gz file and open it. The file exands -- then open the index.apxl file with Textedit (or Word). Throw away the gz file.
    (3) Do a search and replace -- find all instances of the troublesome font name and replace it with a non-troublesome font name, such as GillSans
    (4) Close the text file.
Opening the Keynote file should now proceed normally. Note: Better practice this on a dummy file until you are sure everything works. I imagine that if you muck up the index file that the orignial Keynote file might be toast!

  • Removing/substituting a "missing font" from a document

    Hey all!
I removed some unused fonts from my system, and now some of my Pages documents raise up the "missing font" error on opening, although all styles used in the document use the fonts that are in the system. Perhaps some of the blank paragraphs may have "traces" of those old fonts.
So is there a way to do a "substitute font" procedure? Or do I have to manually select all paragraphs and make sure the style they use is based on an existing font?
    Thanks,
    Artemiy.

  • Replace missing fonts with default fonts

I used fonts in my document that were not downloaded to my computer.  I would like to replace these fonts with the default fonts that the computer automatically substituted.  Is there any way to find out what fonts were used to make these substitutions?

I realize this is an old post, but maybe it will still help.
Was looking for the same functionality in Photoshop as in InDesign, where upon selecting "Replace all Missing Fonts", there would be a dialog box allowing me to choose the fonts to replace to. Instead, it just arbitrarily selects "Myriad Pro", regardless.
My solve, as clunky as it is, worked OK if your whole document uses the same font for everything. E.g. a font across multiple slides of a presentation.
Using the newer filtering options in the Layer menu, select the "Filter for Type layers".
Select all the type layers with the yellow triangle warning.
Go to your Type menu and select the font you want to replace to.
You will be prompted for each layer to confirm the change, get ready to hit "OK" a lot of times.
Click on the "Filter for Type Layers" option again to restore your full menu list.
Should take care of the issue.
With that said, this is a feature request that is well overdue!

  • Missing Fonts from CS6 - Namely Myriad

I have many templates for my work with typeset in Myriad, not MyriadPro. When I run CS6, everything works fine. Then I run the same file in CC and I get a missing font message from TypeKit and my font is gone. See attached screenshots. Please, I really need help solving this issue, otherwise I have no reason to have CC.
    In CS6:
    In CC:

Where was the font before? Do you have the font file someplace avaialble? Adobe apps don't remove fonts from the system, and they do need to be installed someplace to be available for use. Although there are quite a few fonts included and installed for you automatically when you install CS products, Caflisch Script is not one of them. http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/fontinstall/cs6installedfonts.html

  • Missing font/substituted font in nav bar

I cannot seem to get rid of a rogue font on my site. It appears to be in the Navigation Bar that is part of the Modern webpage template (see script code below). This text box is not editable in iWeb as far as I can tell. Each time I go to a page in IWeb, I am prompted for the "missing font" Helvetica Neue H107. I got fed up with this so I added the font in FontBook and now it promts me still but for an error on the "substituted font".

Helvetica Neue is one of the basic system fonts and is used my many iApps. Open Font Book and check to see if it is listed. If it is, deactivate and then reactivate it. See if that will solve the problem.
If you don't have it listed in Font Book do a search for it on your HD. If you find it double click on it to install.
If it's not found on your HD you can extract and install it from your system disk with Pacifist or download it from Toad's Cellar and install.

  • How to Add Missing Fonts

    Hello!
I read through a bunch of other posts but haven't been able to fix my problem. I use Pages to design a project that I turn in each Friday. Today I opened last week's Pages file to update my project for this week and it says:
"The following errors occurred while trying to open this document:
    Missing Font -- Hoefler Text-Regular
    Missing Font -- Baskerville"
    Etc. Lots of missing fonts.
It tells me "To include missing fonts, add them to your Fonts folder, then quit and reopen Pages."
I have no idea how to add a font to my fonts folder or even where my fonts folder is. And where do I get the font? I am so confused! Somebody please help me!
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, mowriter.
Open FontBook from the Applications folder and check the font collections "All Fonts" and "User".
Hoefler Text, e.g. is found in my "All Fonts" collection and it even contains duplicates from Mac OS 9 system folder (marked with a black dot).
Maybe you've just disabled the fonts that Pages requests.

  • CS4 - Missing Fonts Loader Plug-in?

I apologize if this has already been asked, but I am having difficulty with the missing fonts loader plug-in.
Q:  Can some please give me a detailed (step-by-step) instructions for installing this plug in for CS4?
Q:  What is this Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package required for CS 4?
    I need some assistance, please.
Thank you very much for any help!

I meant to add this as well.
Missing Fonts Loader Plug-in for Adobe InDesign CS4
The plug-in for Adobe InDesign CS4 is available on the Proxima Software Web site. This plug-in can automatically
activate missing fonts in Adobe InDesign documents.
    Missing Fonts Loader Plug In
Product Adobe InDesign CS4 version 6.0
Description Automatic Activation of Missing Fonts
    Operating System Microsoft Windows
Requirements Your missing fonts must be located in FontExpert
Groups (visible in the Groups view).
    FontExpert 2009 version 10.0.
The plug-in may also work with FontExpert of earlier
versions 9 and 8, but FontExpert 2009 version 10.0 is
    recommended.
    File Name MissingFontsLoader.pln
    How to Install the Plug-in
    NOTE
The plug-in for InDesign CS4 requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package
(available on the Proxima Software Web site, http://www.proximasoftware.com/download.htm ).
Copy the MissingFontsLoader.pln file to the Adobe InDesign plug-ins folder:
    c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Plug-Ins\MissingFontsLoader\MissingFontsLoader.pln
    and RESTART Adobe InDesign.
(Where "c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\" is the folder where Adobe InDesign is installed.)
Using the Missing Fonts Loader Plug-in
This plug-in has an activation option: automatic (recommended) or manual.
    Automatic Activation
The Missing Fonts Loader Plug-in loads missing fonts automatically when you open an Adobe InDesign document.
The plug-in searches for fonts in font groups defined in FontExpert. If a missing font is not found in the FontExpert
Groups view, it will not be activated, and the font will be marked by InDesign as a missing font (for the current
    document).
    3
Missing Fonts Loader Plug-In for Adobe InDesign CS4
In the picture below, the Missing Fonts Loader window shows an empty list of missing fonts for the current
document, because all fonts were activated automatically:
    4
Missing Fonts Loader Plug-In for Adobe InDesign CS4
When InDesign opens the document, it may still mark fonts as missing, even though they were actually activated
by the plug-in during the opening of the document. In this case, you may be required to reopen document to let
InDesign know that all missing fonts are now activated.
The font information xml file helps solve this problem. It is recommended to select the Use font information xml
files option. Every time you save the .indd document, the Missing Fonts Loader plug-in will create a small xml file.
This xml file will include the list of fonts used in the corresponding .indd document. When this xml file is present,
the plugin can activate fonts just before the InDesign actually opens the document and searches it for missing
fonts. (You will find the xml file near the Adobe InDesign .indd document on your computer.)
    Manual Activation
When the Activate Missing Fonts Automatically checkbox is cleared, the plug-in
does not activate missing fonts when you open the document. You can open the plug-in
    window and activate fonts manually.
The Missing Fonts Loader window shows the list of missing fonts in current document:
    5
Missing Fonts Loader Plug-In for Adobe InDesign CS4
Click the Activate All button to activate missing fonts.
    Important Note
Unfortunately, when missing fonts are activated manually, you are usually required to close the InDesign
document and open it again to let the document "know" that new fonts became available. This is the
    disadvantage of manual activation.

  • Missing Fonts on a pages document

I just opened a Pages document that I have opened many times before and it said error occured - aril Mt and and another arial MT bold of some sort font is missing.
I have never goofed with any fonts errors since I went to Macs maybe 6 years ago. It says to add it to your folder or just ccancel or continue.
how do i add it? where do i get it from and what folder do I insert in into when i find these 2 fonts?
    Why did this happen?
    I am stumped.
This is on a powerbook 12". I have not been able to check my macbook pro yet.
    thank you.

I tried to summarize previous comments on this subject and ended up with this:
Pages can be very picky about fonts, even fonts you do not visibly use in a document. It is for example possible that a Style you do not use contains a font that is missing. It may also be part of a bullet list.
    * Use Applications > Font Book to make sure you really have all the fonts that Pages complain about. If you do not, get them.
    * If you think the missing fonts may come from MS Office you can go to Mactopia to download a test drive, which will install the fonts.
    * If you think the missing fonts come from Pages, reinstall Pages.
    * In Font Book, highlight the fonts Pages complains about, and go to File Validate, to make sure they are ok. Make sure there are no duplicates active.
    * In the Finder, highlight the files of the fonts that Pages complains about. Drag them from the Fonts folder to the desktop and then back again to the Fonts folder.
    * You can also try Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > Repair Permissions. (To be honest, I do not think I have ever heard of this actually fixing any problem, but it is theoretically possible.)
    * Some people have reported solving the problem by "cleaning" the document saving it to another format. Try for example saving your Pages 2.0 document as Pages 1.0 and then reopen it. Warning! You may loose formatting here, so keep the original as back up.
    * Restart.

  • Displaying Missing Font Dialog when exporting to PDF?

Does anyone knows a way to display the missing font dialog again, after it has been shown when the document was opened? We need to export to PDF with font embedding/subsetting, but if a font is missing, the substituted font is embedded instead.
InDesign warns when fonts are missing when it exports to PDF via the UI, so at first I thought I was simply suppressing the error dialog, but IPDFExportPrefs->SetPDFExErrorControl(kExportErrorControlWarnAndContinue) in combination with IUIFlagData->Set(kFullUI) doesn't help.
I can already detect when a font is missing ( thanks to IDocumentFontUsage->GetNumMissingFonts), but I can't get the missing font dialog to display again. I tried IFontUseWarningManager->WarnUser but that doesn't work. If there is any other approach, I'd be grateful to hear it.
I already searched the forum but ironically, I find only messages from people trying to suppress the missing font dialog...

Check the fonts have embedding permissions.
If that doesn't solve the issue, At least one of the 3rd-party Crystal Reports Desktop Scheduling tools listed at: http://www.kenhamady.com/bookmarks.html allows you to generate bookmarks from any pdf by embedding Crystal formulas that act as invisible tags.
