[SOLVED] yaourt shows new packages, pacaur says "nothing to do"

Because of https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1455060, I decided to try pacaur.
"pacaur -Syyua" says nothing to do, while "yaourt -Syyua" shows three packages.
Is there anything special I need to do to migrate from yaourt?

All three (pacman, pacaur and yaourt) shows these three packages as outdated.
I found the reason though. I assumed "pacaur -Sua" would update *both* core and AUR packages, but it seems they are not combined like they're in yaourt.
The documentation for pacaur states that "a" would use *only* AUR though, so perhaps "pacaur -Su" would update both? I guess I'll soon find out.

Hi!
I got a quick question. I thought that yaourt is able to update old packages installed from Aur automatically.
So for example I type as usually yaourt -Syu --aur but I noticed it doesn't show AUR packages I can update. Only from core/extra/community
For example I just typed:
yaourt yaourt
1 aur/yaourt 0.9.2.6-1 [0.9.2.5-1 installed] (2406)
and see that I can update yaourt. I have other packages installed from AUR, how do I know that a newer version is available without checking it manually?

so I am happy to mark it as solved. It wasn't a bug, but it is a way how yaourt works.
yaourt -Syu --aur shows packages from core/extra/community.
If I press Y (to install them). It shows a list again with the information how much to download and install and then after pressing "No" to install them, yaourt continues to check AUR packages in this case.

Here's something I found out in the meantime, maybe this is interesting for somebody or maybe - problem's not totally solved - enough info for any of you to give me further advice.
When I start Logic Core Audio driver de-activated, I can open old songs. Then I save them in a new folder with all audio files and a new name. And I remove all EXS24 instruments as well as the Space Designer. I quit Logic, re-open with Core Audio activated and I can open the song.
Problem no.1: EXS24 instruments don't find the appropriate samples, but EXSMananger Pro did help me with this. Same problem with Space Designer, which doesn't find the impulse responses, connected to a certain preset.
Two questions, every idea would be great!
- Is there any way to teach Space Designer Presets where to look for impulse respones. I can load IR samples directly and create a new preset, but I can't use my old ones.
- Is it possible to install Logic from scratch over an existing version? Or how should I de-install everything connected with Logic and then install a fresh version from CD?

[Solved] Yaourt says that alacarte-xfce is an orphan

This is my output

I have re-installed it multiple times, refreshing yaourt in between, lots of things. I have searched the interwebs and found nothing.
Why am I getting this, I thought orphaned packages were ones that I didn't mean to install and are no longer needed.
note: Originally I wouldn't have installed alacarte myself, it would have come in an XFCE bundle.
Any advice on if this is normal/how to disable or how to correct would be appreciated.
(I have used GNU/Linux for a year, Arch for a few months, so I'm a little bit noobish ;P )

Sometimes the updater gets in a funny state - Go to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and download the full installer. Close Firefox and run the installer

I haven't checked reviews recently but there's a difference between bare drives and drives with enclosures. Western Digital made some of the most reliable drives last time I checked, though the enclosures weren't all that great. It is convenient to get both in one package but I usually buy a highly rated enclosure and then put a highly rated drive in it myself. OWC sells some good enclosures but if they put a so-so drive inside of it then the package is only as good as its weakest component. If you get a package from them, ask them what drive is inside (some vendors have no idea what's inside - went to an Apple Store recently and they couldn't tell me what was inside some of their Apple brand enclosures). My first thought if buying a new drive would be to buy a OWC enclosure with a WD drive, but chek around because I may be out of date.
10 years ago Seagate was one of the best drives. Now they rate poorly in reviews.

I have a used linksys router that I got from work. I tried connecting with a older ipad and every thing works correctly. any ideas?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Some basic printer troubleshooting steps before worrying about a printer driver:
1. Have you tried turning the printer off and back on?
2A. Is the printer attached with a cable?
     If yes, have you tried unplugging and re-plugging both ends of the printer cable?
     If that does not help, can you test the printer with another cable?
2B. If your printer is not connected to the computer with a cable, have you tried restarting your printer (assuming wireless connection)?
     Have you tried restarting your wireless router?
3. Have you tried restarting your MacBook? (Be sure to save your work first.)
4. Does the printer have ink? (Doesn't usually generate a 'communications error' though)
5. Have you updated OS X or the program you're trying to print from recently?

[SOLVED] yaourt -Syua wants to update a package which hasn't changed

I built a modest package, vi-vim-symlink, tested it extensively with pacman, and then uploaded it to AUR.
Recently some user reported that every time he runs yaourt, the package wants to be reinstalled. I installed yaourt and confirmed this behavior:
gecko:~~$ yaourt -Syua
:: Synchronizing package databases...
core is up to date
extra is up to date
community is up to date
Foreign packages: | 4 / 4
==> Package upgrade only (new release):
aur/vi-vim-symlink 1-1 1 -> 1

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? The package is super simple and only creates a couple of symlinks, uninstalling vi, if necessary.

The package definitely works (I'm using it on several machines). The pkgdesc is lengthy because it's kind of an odd package, so I tried to explain the reason for it's existence. If I were just packaging bottle.py or something like this my pkgdesc would be short.

I'm still not entirely sure what this means or how this happened.
Looks like the source tarball was repackaged without having been sync'd
AUR wouldn't let me upload the package without a url; first I added a random url (one of my servers), then changed my mind and used the vim url -- this must have been when things got out of whack.

last night I discovered that yaourt doesnt search aur packages. I am guessing that it has something to do with last pacman upgrade and new mirror list.
Does anybody have the same problem with yaourt and could anybody explaine, step by step , what soud I do with new mirror list? I did not understand completely all steps that should be done with new mirror list. Thanks.

Log in to the Developer forum. You will find instructions on how to install the lastest beta. Your problem is the beta you have installed has expired. All of them did on October 5; you will find hundreds of threads discussing this. If you have a beta it is assumed that you will continue as a beta tester, so a simple update using iTunes will not work.
If you no longer want to be a beta tester install the GM 7.0.2 by restoring from iTunes using DFU mode.

It no longer shows the installed packages list, just counting in one line "Foreign packages: \ 103 / 103" and exit without updating. Is this normal?

[SOLVED] Does yaourt save built packages anywhere?

Hi everybody. I'll put it as simple as I can.
I've downloaded, built and installed several packages from AUR with yaourt. Now I'm uninstalling some packages and programs I don't really need, and between them some of via-yaourt-built ones. But since some of them really took some time to be built, I would like to keep them if I want to install them again later. The problem is that they're not in /var/cache/pacman/pkg nor in other directories in my ~/ folder, and I don't know where else to look. Looking in the wiki and searching the bbs gave me no result. Can somebody please tell me where yaourt saves the packages it builds, if it saves them anywhere at all? [but it would be Very dull if it didn't]

I did read both, yaourtrc, yaourtrc.5 and yaourt.8, and I found out about exporting possibility in the first place. Let me ask for confirmation: does all of it imply that, since my yaourtrc reads
#EXPORT=0
#EXPORTSRC=0
#EXPORTDIR=""
and my makepkg.conf
#PKGDEST=/home/packages
#SRCDEST=/home/sources
#SRCPKGDEST=/home/srcpackages
thus all of the variables are commented, I have no choice but using bacman to have the .xz packages of the programs I previously built?
As to say it so, I should have known before, should I? -D
This bacman looks like exactly what I would need in this situation however - I'm using it right now to repackage the binaries - thank you!
