Solving Centro hotsync issues without a hard reset

I have a Centro (sprint).  I am running Windows Vista.  I cannot connect with hotsync.  Whenever I try, I get the following message -- "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established.  Please check your setup and try again."  I went through the article referenced at the beginning of this forum and performed all the suggestions (reloaded Palm desktop 6.2, the outlook 2007 update, soft restart, etc.).  I took it to a repair center and they stated the ONLY way to fix it was to do a hard reset which would lose all info.  Since I can't hotsync, I haven't been able to backup the phone which means I'll lose everything.  I'm hoping there are some other suggestions I could try.  It seems contrary that the only way to solve a hotsync issue and save your data is to do a hard reset and lose all your data.  Thanks.

Is your Vista 64 bit or 32 bit?
Try performing a warm reset of your device... Take out the battery press and hold the UP button insert the battery while holding the UP navigator button wait until you see set date and time then release the button. Connect the phone back to the PC and try perform a hotsync.

  • Palm TX replacement unit has white screen issues even after hard reset

I hope somebody can help me find a solution.
I was a happy Palm OS user since the early days of Palm III.  After a Palm III and a V, had a Sony Clie that lasted a long time, but finally pooped out, went to a Z22 and broke the screen, then almost but not quite a year ago (in warranty, supposedly), purchased a Palm TX.  Worked great for a while but ended up with a unit I couldn't turn on or off because the power switch had died.  Worked around that by keeping the sync cord in and powering on by pushing the button and then canceling.  Finally sent it in for in-warranty repair.  Got back a new-to-me unit.
This worked fine for almost a month, then it started (with no new software or usage patterns) to have blank screen issues.  To solve this I have tried many things.  Soft resets, hard resets, leaving it to fully run out its battery for weeks at a time.  Nothing works; it continues to go blank on me.  In addition, the sound is strange and screechy when it beeps (e.g. accepting time zone after reset).  I bought the TX in the US when I was home for a visit last July, but am living in the Netherlands currently.
I contacted the Palm repair center in the UK that replaced my original unit; they said would pass on word of my troubles to Palm and Palm should contact me, otherwise to e-mail them.  They haven't.  I can't find an e-mail address for to explain all of this to anyone with any power to help me.  I have tried to use the Palm support website to solve this problem, but neither the original serial number or the serial number of the replacement unit I have now is showing up as eligible for warranty repair.  I have tried to call the US Palm support number (http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/47005_en.html#howservice), but I get "calling is temporarily unavailable."  When I click "here" when asked "If you wish to query the warranty status of your handheld, or would prefer to arrange a repair through our Technical Support service, click here" (https://www.euroservice.palm.com/repair_entry/NLD/EE) I end up on a page that says simply "Please Enter the Source Url."  I am hesitant to supply credit card information for an issue that, if it can't be covered under warranty (which I think it should be, since I'm still within the original 12 month warranty period), I may well abandon.
I am very frustrated in trying to get this fixed.  I am disappointed in the dwindling support for a PDA (that is not a phone) with Palm OS.  Since I am living (though not comfortably or well) without my calendar, address book, alarm, reader, dbs, cookbook, checklist, etc., I am seriously considering leaving the Palm OS.  My preference is to get this fixed, and my idea nearly a year ago was to ride the Palm OS until it disappeared completely (subsumed into phones anyway), but my problems have discouraged me to the point that I am wondering if this is my end.
       Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Thanks for your help!
I don't know how to tell for certain if this is a US or a UK device, but it looks identical to the one I bought in a store in Seattle, and the first five and the last two num/letters of the serial number are identical.  I do know that when I sent it in originally for the power button failure, that the Palm repair center understood that it was a Palm purchased in the States.  Their description of the goods received is "Palm TX , US and ML" so it seems apparent that they knew it was a US device and rather than refusing to repair it, they had me send it to them.  And when my repair was returned, the repair details list "unit exchange" and type of unit is again listed as Palm TX US & ML.
Well, regardless, I appreciate your pointing me in the right directions to someone who can help me.
Ironically, I am no longer having the same issues with the Palm.  The latest round of letting the power run out after a hard reset and sit for a few weeks seems to have "fixed" it.  At least, I have been trying to break it (by using it) without success.  Recharged it, synced it, checked and sent mail with it, used all the programs I used to, and I haven't had a white screen in the past few days.  Hope my luck continues, but I don't trust it.  All hail frequent syncing.
    Thanks again.

  • HotSync Loop Even After Hard Reset

My Treo755p decidedly to randomly go into a HotSync loop (even though I never set-up the HotSync to my laptop).  I did a hard-restart, lost all the data, and restarted and it still does the HotSync Loop....Am I just screwed...Of course, I just landed in The Virgin Islands and don't have any of the HotSync software or connector...This is my fourth treo..why do i even bother anymore?   Any suggestions?

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
Try a warm reset and if that doesn't work perform another hard reset. When performing a hard reset be sure to say "Yes" to erase all data. For further information and instructions on resets please visit kb.palm.com and look up article number 887 in the solution I.D search field.
I hope this resolves your issue.

  • HotSync password reappears after hard reset

When attempting a HotSync of my Palm TX to Palm Desktop 4.2 running in Windows XP, it asked me for a password.  As far as I know, I did not set a password on the device.  When I open the Security Pref, it thinks a password exists.
I did a hard reset to clear the password and start over.  After a few HotSyncs, it asked me for a password again.  I have now been through 3 hard resets in the last few days (so I didn't "forget" that I had set a password).
Any ideas for how to track down the glitch?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Just wanted to check something. You can install but I would like you to rename your backup folder before you sync after you hard reset. What this will do all the settings, programs, and prefs you have will not be installed back to the device. This should resolve the issue.
    Here's how to do this
To fix this what we need to do is hard reset your device. The instructions to do that is here http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 this tells you how to do all types of resets. Also, what we need to do is rename your backup folder. What this folder is, it hold all your programs from the last time you synced your PC. On your computer go here My Computer--> C drive --> Program files --> Palm/PalmOne--> your hotsync user name --> and right click on your backup folder and rename it to "backup.old" Resync your device to the same user name and you will get all your contacts, calendar, tasks, and memos.
You can install the programs again but make sure they are compatible with the device. Also try one program again and wait 24 hours to see if the same thing happens again. This way you know what program is causing the issue.

  • Hotsync via Bluetooth after Hard Reset & Backup folder

    Hi,
For some reason my phone 700P (Verizon) did a hard reset yesterday.
I've restored the Address book and calendar from my PC via the Bluetooth with Palm Desktop 6.2 (I don't know why hotsync manager shows 7.0.2).
Now here's my question, my Phone and HotSync Manager, don't synchronize the backup folder on my PC to get the rest of my settings and programs onto my phone.
    How can I do this?
The Manager doesn't has an option to force a sync from PC to Phone.
    Thanks,
    Bill

P.s, all hidden files are shown in es file explorer as this backup folder was hidden originally. It has a '.' in front. So I'm pretty sure the folder it's gone, but as I've not erased my phone again, shouldn't the folder be somewhere in my SD card still and how can I find it using my Mac?

  • E55 issues, anyone have Hard Reset code?

    Hello everyone,
I recently just bought a new E55, unfortunately it seems somewhat dead on arrival. I've charged in for quite a while via usb and wall charger. I've replaced the battery, sim cards, and memory cards to no avail.
When I attempt to turn the phone on, the screen remains black, and it vibrates very briefly and nothing else happens. I've never seen a charge indicator show up.
The only interesting bit of information is that when I plug it into my computer, some portion of the phone's hardware (usb flashing parent, usb flashing ) are detected--but I don't know if that is useful. It seems to 'disconnect' after maybe 30 seconds or so.
Anyway, obviously this phone is defective. I was wondering if anyone could help with either:
The hard reset code for the E55 ('*' + '3' + 'green call' doesn't work). It might be different because of the half-qwerty.
    or
Know a way to manually flash the phone using the hardware detected by my computer (nokia software suite can't detect the phone's presence--I assume because it doesn't turn on.
    Any help would be great!

now it does sound like it is a DOA which any of those codes may not revive your unit. you can always take it to nokia care and have them have a look  at it and you might have to pay but chances are they might fix it for you
    try option nubmer 3
you do this with the phone turned OFF and do not let go off the three buttons until you see the handshake no other screen
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work.
1.. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345.
2.*#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
    3. hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, /GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

  • IPhone 5s with ios 8.2 - can't use touch function; must double tap each function key; can't shut down phone without a hard reset; every function results in a voice description even in silent mode.

I have a iPhone 5s and just installed the 8.0.2 ios. How do I stop getting audible descriptions of each action I take in silent mode? The Touch ID has ceased to function. The screen icons have to be double struck. I cannot scroll down past the first page of any screen. I must force a shut-down to turn the phone off.  How do I fix all these problems?

    Hello Gubus 2,
It sounds as though (no pun intended) VoiceOver is enabled on your iPhone. Pressing the Home button quickly three times should turn this feature off. Further information can be found in the iPhone user guide at the link below.

  • Unlocking an iPhone without a hard reset. Only for the photos.

My friend recently died and has left behind his locked iPhone. His widow doesn't have the pass code but just wants the photos from the device, is there any slim chance someone could help me help her. This is totally legitimate and I just want to help. As I say, we only want the photos if that makes it easier.
    Thank you

Your only hope is if your friend regularly syncs, and synced while the passcode was in effect on the phone. If so, connect to the computer the phone normally syncs with & restore from backup. This will remove the passcode. Before doing that, connect to the same computer & try importing the photos, as described here:

  • Centro Hard reset

Looking to do a hard reset on my Centro. It seems to freeze and also just all of a sudden Reset itself when I click on certain programs. Nothing in particular, just spontaniously, and not tied to any specific program.
Also from time to time I get a message saying that I can't access any website I try to access. Just turning the phone off and then back on resets that for me.
I was going through my "Backup" folder and looking to see what I have and noticed I have a bunch of files name real...  One is RealMP3Codec, and another is RealLib, and another is RealMP3FF . I don't have Realplayer for Palm but I did have it on my old Treo 650. Are these files tied to the old Real player or are the required files for my PocketTunes software that came preloaded into my Centro?
Also There is no "reset" button, how do you do a Hard reset on the Centro?
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

Doing a hard reset - go to kb.palm.com and enter solution ID 887
I think you did move over some applications from your old 650 and it is real player that caused this issue. To fix this just go to your username profile and rename the backup folder to backup.old in the palm folder in program files which is located in (C drive.
I think the best way would be to go ahead and go to hotsync manager and go to custom and set everything to desktop overrides handheld except backup (set this to do nothing).

  • How to change the batteries on a palm m125 without having to do a hard reset

Some palm m125's are defective meaning that when one changes the AAA batteries one is presented with a no way out question on whether yes to hard reset or no to not hard reset, yes it's true that what i mean by no way means that even a soft reset will NOT make it work again, hope you just did a backup right.. oh! and this will prob. only work if you have enough battery power to keep the unit on: ie: around 5% battery...
Anywhoo I have found a workaround for this bug or so that may help you, please read below on how to hopefully preserve the data on your handheld's m125 hardware without this hard reset lockup...
Note: Testing with rechargeables in (Maxxus 1100 mah) and then put in alkalines = mixed results :/, but alkalines out then new ones in should work fine..
    Okay - fairly simple - Let's start:
A: Turn on the unit - yes u heard me turn the unit ON
    B: Flip the unit over
C: While the unit is ON take out the top battery first and replace it as fast as you can with the newer one and make sure it is in before doing the next step...
D: now do the bottom battery...
E: turn the unit on by pressing the power button
Result: If all goes well, u'll see the palm logo and then it should show the prefs screen of which you've successfully saved all ur user data. - What it did was a soft reset.
So far with alkalines i've had nothing but success - if anyone out there owns a m125 as well and can confirm that this tip works, please post to let others know ur success or unsuccess of trying out my tip..
My Test Results Tested on Factory State unit (Hard Reset Unit ):
Alkalines -> Alkalines = 99% (if done correctly) = Pretty Safe*
    Alkalines -> Rechargeables = 50% (if done correctly) = Warning/Caution
Rechargeables -> Alkalines = Not Consistant enough to measure (if done correctly) = Very Risky
*If ur unit stills asks on Alka to Alka then Just maybe a software program is now causing it to ask for a hard reset as I'm still testing this.
If method One does not work out, I've also tried the following with success esp. on Rechargeables -> Alkalines, but this will requre more work and a more steady hand...
    A: Turn the unit ON
B: Press and hold DOWN button
C: While holding the Down button, take out the TOP battery first and replace it, DO NOT let go of the down button on the handheld
D: Now replace the BOTTOM battery
E: Let go of the Down Button
    F: Press the on button
If all goes well you will see the palm logo meaning that it just did a soft reset, but ur data should still be intact, With method 2 I was able to get a more success rate. , But I am still testing on when the unit is fully loaded, etc.. as these tests were done on a hard reset unit. You can also try holding the up button instead of the bottom one for a method 3. Again anyone out there with success or unsuccess stories - please tell as i'd like to hear your expierence with my findings here.

This is a bad idea, and will only create problems further down the line. For the correct way to do this see -

As for the effect you wish, (no full page load) this is known as ajax and if you are new and using dreamweaver then the spry framework is probably the easiest to learn, see http://www.webmonkey.com/2010/02/build_ajax_components_with_spry/, your dreamweaver documentation also contains a description of how to use Spry, the full Spry documentation and examples are available at - http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/home.html.

  • 8350i uncaught exception java.lang.NullPointerException after hard reset

    basic info:
    8350i
    v4.6.1.204 (Platform 3.0.0.73)
    Desktop Manager 4.7
everything is good except that i've been using two batteries, one in the phone and one in a charger. when the phone's battery is almost drained i swap it with the charged one which of course causes a hard reset.
this procedure was working well for at least a week or two until last month when i swapped batteries - after the hard reset i got
    uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException
i could make calls but all other software seemed corrupted... virtually nothing else worked... icons missing etc.
tried all sorts of solutions but the only thing that fixed it was a full on device software erase/reload, then a data restore from previous backup. at the time i figured it was just a random thing and was glad to learn how to do a complete software reload.
then yesterday it happened again (again, immediately at the end of the security check after hard reset). now i'm afraid to swap batteries because it would appear that every time i hard reset there is a 10% (my guess) chance of software corruption and a complete reload takes a significant amount of time.
has anybody else noticed this? does anybody have a solution?
can i swap batteries without a hard reset; i.e. swap while plugged into power? i haven't tried this yet for fear of causing my BB harm.
    any help is appreciated,

  • Palm Centro - Button Issues (new)

Last month I dropped my palm centro in a bowl of water (aka my toilet... ). I let it dry in a bowl of uncooked rice and everything returned to normal. All the buttons worked, and the touchscreen function worked normally. Recently though suddenly the buttons stopped working. The last couple of days have been humid and that may have something to do with it but I tried turning my phone off and removing the battery to let it dry out. Only the touchscreen function works, making navigating around my phone very tedious and difficult. Sometimes I get stuck in an application and so I have to remove the battery and when I put it back in all of the buttons work momentarily. Is there anything I can do to get them to work permanently again? Thank you for your time.

    That is unfortunate to hear.
You can try a hard reset to resolve the issue. The hard reset will erase all data on the device. Make sure you sync to the PC to backup your data.
If the hard reset does not correct the issue, then the Centro will need to be repaired.

  • What does a hard reset clear out? / can't update O...

    Hi,
I'd like to get my phone back to it's original state.  But doing a hard reset won't do that really as I've updated the firmware since then for example and I'm pretty sure I'll have the same firmware after the reset.
My problem is that I get an "internal error" when trying to update the Ovi maps to 3.4 using Ovi suite.  If I try to do it directly on the phone I just get a generic failure message with no information.
I've removed the existing Ovi maps from the application manager but I can still run Ovi maps!  It's all gone a bit strange so I thought I'd reset but I don't think it's really going to clear everything out.  So I might be back where I started but minus some of the things I wanted on my phone.  So I'm not sure what a reset really does.
Any ideas how I can get out of this state?
    Cheers.
    Peter.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Right - I did a soft reset and tried to install Ovi maps 3.04.  It told me to clear out some memory.  I'd been doing that at the weekend by uninstalling applications but the main problem was 50Mb of "other files".  So I only had about 8Mb free as there's around 25Mb of applications and misc other stuff (I'd moved my messages off there at the weekend).
So I did a hard reset and 3.04 has now installed.  Of course - It'll now take me some time to get everything back the way it was!
Perhaps it was a lack of space on C: that was the problem all along.  Not sure how I would have got rid of that "other files" space without a hard reset.
