Solving the iCal vs Google Calendar problem [Apple response requested]

When is this going to be fixed? This major problem has been reported by Google, but yet to date nothing has been said by Apple.

  • How can I map the category in Outlook to ICal for Google Calendar Syncing

I have the syncing working between Outlook 2011 and iCal and Google Calendar; however all my events come in with a category of "No Category" into iCal.  Unless I open iCal and manually change "No Category" to my google calendar it will not sync with Google Calendar.  Does anyone know how I can have the category come from Outlook to iCal and default it to my Google Calendar?

  • Syncing iCal to Google Calendars

I am using 10.3.9 and don't intend to upgrade until Leopard (due to expense) I have iCal 1.5.5 and iSync 1.5.
Because I cannot sync directly from iCal to my Sony Ericsson K750i mobile phone I have attempted to solve this by using Google Calendar to which I can export iCal, and using GooSync I can sync from Google Calendar to the phone.
Does any one know of a way of syncing iCal to Google Calendar as the export option is limited and time consuming compared to a true sync.
Even a way of exporting individual events would be preferable to eporting the entire calendar and would be almost as good as syncing, but my understanding is that I cannot export snippets in this way. I would love for someone to tell me I am wrong.

  • Embed Google Calendar in Apple Wiki

    Hello.
I did some googling and found out that it might be possible to embed Google Calendar in Apple Wiki.
The problem here is that by default (I think), Wikis have this built in header to prevent ClickJacking (thats what I found out by googling), so no embedding is allowed. We are using the sites internally only, so it wouldn't matter even if we get this to be disabled. Because I cannot get the Wiki Calendar to change the time formats, I would like to use Google Calendar. Does someone know how to disable the header? I did not find a final solution yet.
    Sincerely,
    V

    Oh sorry.. Found it.

  • Have thunderbolt and need to sync ical with google calendar in order to use.  Any suggestions?

Have a thunderbolt and MacBook.  Need to sync ical with google calendar as thunderbolt supports google calendar.  Any suggestions?

I think we may be talking about two different things. Thunderbolt is the new two way display port on Mac Book Pros and Apple displays.
Thunderbolt (originally codenamed Light Peak) is an interface for connecting peripheral devices to a computer via an expansion bus. Thunderbolt was developed by Intel and brought to market with technical collaboration from Apple Inc. It was introduced commercially on Apple's updated MacBook Pro lineup on February 24, 2011.
Thunderbolt combines PCI Express and DisplayPort into a serial data interface. A single Thunderbolt port supports hubs as well as a daisy chain of up to seven Thunderbolt devices; up to two of these devices may be high-resolution displays using DisplayPort. You can move data to and from peripherals up to 20 times faster than with USB 2.0 and up to 12 times faster than with FireWire 800.

  • Using iCal with Google Calendars: can view subscribed calendars, but not add to them

Something recently happened to my google calendars causing them to all disappear from Google. Anyway, that mystery remains.
I am currently trying to re set up iCal to sync with Google Calendars and things aren't working quite right.
In iCal, I've done Calendar>Subscribe and entered the URL for that particular Google calendar. This has been completed for the 5 separate Google calendars I have and they show up in the list of subscribed calendars.
However, if I attempt to create a new event, the only calendar choice I have is for the main GMail calendar, not any of the subscribed "sub calendars".
In Preferences>Account, If I select Google and then go to the "delegation"tab, there is a message that states "You can't see delegation settings when this account is offline."
    Can anyone offer some advice?
    Thanks.

That's the part I always forget how to do. See if this answers your question:
To select which calendars to sync to your Apple device, follow these steps:
Open the Safari browser on your device and go to http://m.google.com/sync
Sign in with your account and select your device from the list of devices you've set up for Google Sync.

  • How do i sync ical to google calendars with Leopard?

Hi I am trying to syn two macbooks ical to google calendars.  I can do it on one by going ical>preferences>accounts>+account>
which pops up a box with  Accounts information : server settings:  Delegation along the top and description: username:password:fullname:refreshcalendars along the left
But after ical>preferences>accounts>+account> on the other older macbook with Leopard OS the pop up is more basic with no tabs across the tops just down the left description :username:password: account URL
But when I input exactly the same info it says the login failed - your password was rejected by the server but the password is absolutely correct and I have double checked it by logging in else where.
    Any advice?

    I found the answer.
    The computer that I was having problems adding the Ical cal dav account to for google calendars has iCal 3 software;
This is how to set up the account after turning on 2 step verification in google and creating a application specific password
Set Up Google Calendar iCal Sync in iCal 3
To set up Google Calendar iCal synchronization manually:
Select iCal | Preferences... from the menu in iCal.
    Go to the Accounts tab.
Click + beneath the Accounts list.
    Enter "Google Calendar" under Description:.
Type your Google Calendar account user name (say, your Gmail address) under Username:.
Enter the Google Calendar account's password under Password:.
    Expand Server Options.
Type "https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/" (not including the quotation marks) underAccount URL:.
Append your Google Calendar user name to that.
Append "/user" (excluding, again, the quotation marks) to the that.
Finally, you could have something like "https://www.google.com/ calendar/ dav/[email protected]/user" under Account URL:.
    Click Add.
Highlight the newly added account in the Accounts list.
    Go to the Delegation tab.
Make sure all calendars you want to access in addition to your default Google Calendar calendar are checked.
    Close the Accounts preferences window.

  • Sync from ical to Google calendar

Oddly I found this info nowhere on the net. There's lots of advice to sync Google to iCal, but getting the iCal calendars already on your mac synced to Google ? Things become hugely complicated and mostly require 3rd party apps. When in fact it's relatively simple.
    1) Sync Google to iCal. Google based calendars will appear underneath your desktop based calendars in the left hand bar of iCal. Google calendars are synced fine, but your desktop calendars are not, and that is the problem (for the moment).
    2) Select (highlight) one of your desktop calendars. File - Export and save the file somewhere on your Mac.
    3) In Google Calendar (on the internet, not in iCal), create a new calendar and give it the name of the desktop calendar you just exported.
    4) In Google Calendar, choose Import and select the file you created on your Mac. Assign it to the new calendar you created in Google.
Bingo, the calendar now appears in Google under the same name as your desktop. It also reappears a few moments later in iCal (when iCal resyncs with Google) under the Google section in the left hand bar of iCal. BUT all the entries for that calendar now appear double in iCal, once for the desktop version and once for the Google version. So :
    5) Deselect the desktop version (or remove it - you can always reimport the exported file if necessary)
    6) Proceed the same way for the rest of your desktop based calendars.
You now have all your calendars both on Google and iCal (including all past events) and they will remain synced from now on. No third party app required. The only limitation I've seen so far is that you can't create calendar groups (to archive the calendars you no longer need, for example) in Google.
    Hope this helps.

I thought the answer would be CalDav. Publishing your calendars to your server or mobileme. But when I did this nothing showed up in Gcal.

  • I want to export iCal to Google Calendar on a PC

I've searched a bunch of forums but none of the instructions match. They all say click on the calendar you want to export, then click file, export etc etc
The problem is that on a PC, there are no file/export options.  All I have are calendars on the left and I can click a button the "share" the calendar.
So anyone know how to export iCal to Google calendar on a PC?  Thanks.

Found it. FYI, you have to "share" the calendar you want to back up or export. Copy and paste the URL given into your browser, but do NOT hit enter. Change the "webcal" at the beginning to "http" then hit enter. It's automatically downloaded to your default location.  Then you can import the ICS file directly into Google calendar.

  • Can I add a calendar such as ical or google calendars and have it expand the date?

In Google calendars or iCal you click on the date in the month view and you see the day itself listed with what is going on that day.  Is there a way to add an ical or google cal to iweb that would show the full month, but when the particular day is clicked would either expand to show a fair amount of information for that date, or show that dates info in a seperate dialogue box next tot he calendar?

Go to Google calendar, grab the code and paste it in a html snippet.
    Explanation here :

What the calendar can do is up to Google. iWeb has no control over it.

  • ICal syncs Google calendar with iPad and iPhone but not MacBook Air

    Hi there,
Sorry to post another thread about syncing issues, but the solutions posted in the ones I looked at didn't quite solve my problem, so I'm wondering if I'm having an issue that's specific to the way I've set things up with my devices?
I created a Google account for the sole purpose of having a Google calendar that I could share with my Dad. We both access this Google calendar through iCal.
My Dad generally checks or posts updates using iCal on his iPad and iPhone. Meanwhile, I'm using iCal on my MacBook Air, which FWIW is also running Snow Leopard. (I don't have an iPad or iPhone - this is my only means of accessing the calendar.)
Any change he makes on the calendar will show up on both of his devices, but not mine. Any change I make will not show up on his devices.
I logged into the Google account in a web browser (Chrome, FWIW) and checked the calendar through the same browser - all of his changes aren't showing up on it, but mine are.
I had my Dad reload the same Google calendar in his devices (i.e. delete the account and add it back again) and confirmed he's using the right Google address and password. This doesn't do anything to solve the problem.
What else am I missing? It's a little frustrating trying to fix this because my Dad's in another state so I don't see him that often, and even though I taught him how to use an iPad and an iPhone, he's still not the most computer literate person, so talking him through this is a little tricky.

On the MBPro and the iMac open System Preferences > iCloud
Switch Calendars off then back on.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data.

  • I FINALLY figured out the iCal to Google sync!!!

This is not as straight forward as some would lead you to believe! Once you have done it, it's surprisingly simple, but you have to do the steps in order. Here's what I've found:
1st - create your iCal calendar with all the entries and calendars you wish.
2nd - create a BLANK Google calendar to use (not a sub-calenday, but your main Google Calendar)
3rd - in iCal, export each calendar you have (if only one, fine) to your desktop
4th - in Google Calendar create those same calendar titles (this is where you'll be importing the exported iCal calendars too)
5th - import exported iCal calendars into matching google calendars
6th - in iCal turn off your calendars by unchecking them
7th - in iCal go to iCal > Preferences > at the bottom of the "Accounts" box there will be a "+" and "-" signs. click on the "+" and follow the prompts.
8th - once the link is set up go to the "delegations" tab and there should be a list of all the calendars (except if you only had one, and then this does not apply). select each calendar you want to sync with.
9th - Now you can go back to the calendar portion of iCal and delete all the iCal calendars. There should be a list of Delegates that matches the iCal calendars you are deleting. If not DO NOT DELETE the ICal Calendars. Start over!
If you run into problems contact me here.

When I originally imported the *.ics file I received this message: Failed to import events: Unable to process your iCal/CSV file..
Most of the events moved over. The sync seemed to not care when or by whom the events were created. There were events created by the same person with the same parameters, and not all those events moved over. Ones created on the iCal prior to export did not come over at all, but still show in iCal.
I also need to mention the iCal is linked to the Entourage. I did not delete that calendar from iCal, so not sure if that would create an issue. It is unchecked though. I am leary of deleting the calendars not knowing if the Entourage link will be lost. The events on this computer all come through Entourage (the program is also used for emails and address book).

  • ICal and Google Calendar: Why can't we all just get along

OK. To start, I'll just lay out what I'd like from these two apps:
I primarily use Google Calendar because I'm on different computers frequently and it's nice to have my calendar anywhere. I would have no reason to use iCal really, except that I want to sync my calendar info onto two iPods (touch and classic) to have that info with me on the go.
Ideally I'd be able to input info onto either Google Cal or iCal and it would be reflected on the other one pretty seamlessly.
Here's what I have now. Following directions from Google, I added my Google account to the "Accounts" page in iCal prefs using a link like this, "https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user".
Under the delegation tab I checked the various Google calendars that I want synced over to iCal. They all show up on iCal, so this part is working well.
Unfortunately things start to head south here. If I'm not connected to the Internet, the various Google calendars display symbols because they can't connect. Fine. But when I try to sync the calendars through iTunes, nothing transfers. No events, no nothing. (I can't sync while connected to the 'net currently b/c I'm in a foreign country using a USB modem that blocks the other USB port. Hopefully I'll find a USB hub soon.)
    Anyway, two basic problems.
    1. Is there a relatively simple way to have two-way sync between iCal and Google Cal
    2. The issue with events not syncing to iPods

    Then check the following:
1.) are you using the Mac OSX install DVD that came with this mac? Cuz only that would ensure to have the right windows drivers inside the windows port of the boot camp setup exe
2.) Did you try to download the missing drivers via ID? there are several sites offering the right drivers by device ID (See device driver properties). To name one "Driveragent.com" but there is even a better one, but as its late here i really cant remember the name...
But I get back to you on this one as soon as I hit my office again... promised

  • How do I get reminders to work between ical and google calendar

I have searched and searched, read dozens of posts, and still have found nothing that shows how to get reminders to work in ical. One post said to disable all event reminders in the google interface-did not make any difference; setting them up in google-did not work; etc etc
Specifically, I am on a macbook pro, snow leopard, ical 4.0.4; my wife is on the same system, but using an iMac.
since snow leopard does not support the cloud, and mobilme is gone, we were 'forced' to use google calendar to sync events between our two computers; that part seems to work fine; most of the time.
But neither of us can get a reminder to pop up in ical, when the event is one that goes to google; if the event is one that is "on my mac", then those kind of event reminders do work.
this is not about syncing reminders; it is about me tring to make a medical appt event remind me a few hours before, so I don't forget it, like happened last week!!
Mainly I am expecting anyone that responds to this post to say, yes you are right, there is no way to get a 'caldav' event reminder to work anymore.
If anyone says "I found a way..." I will be knocked over :-)  (but overjoyed); I am happy to use terminal, plist editor, or anything else, if someone can fix this.

can anyone help with this, even if just to confirm that there is no fix?
