Solving the ipod crisis - Nick Moss Method

"PLZZZZZ Help me people. I recently bought a 1GB Ipod Shuffle and even though I've added songs and such, every time i attempt to play on my shuffle, the buttons flash green and orange for about 5 seconds. I've tried everything, someone must help me I'm going insane!!!!!!!!!"
-Every Ipod Shuffle User
I had the same problem as you and sooooooo many others. You add songs, reset it, restart and reinstall programs, and get to a point where you simply can't take it any longer, however, i have found a method that helped me (Thankfully), and I'm hoping will help you to , so you don't end up throwing the shuffle out the window.
My successful, yet simple technique is this :
*1. Plug in your shuffle and go on to itunes, then restore it.*
*2. Once it is restored and you've renamed it, (make sure it doesn't automatically add songs) find it in the left hand bar.*
*3. MANUALLY add about 5 songs to your shuffle, any length, but the smaller the better (not too small =D)*
*4. Once they've all been uploaded and in the status bar it the top of the itunes window it says "Ipod sync complete, OK to disconnect", select the first song on your shuffle and then click the shuffle header in the left nav bar so it is highlighted blue.(shown in below picture in step 5)*
*5. Finally, go down to the bottom left of your itunes browser and left click the shuffle icon (two arrows interweaving), so it highlights blue , but only after you've selected the Shuffle icon in the nav bar. Image in link :*
http://i26.tinypic.com/t66yxh.png
After that is highlighted, wait for the OK to disconnect at the top status bar and eject the ipod using the button in the nav bar next to the header. After, turn it on and HOPEFULLY it should play, if it has, no need to thank me, just spread the word, if it hasn't i am very sorry and sorry for generating any false hope you may of experienced.

_*2ND METHOD*_
1. Load in your shuffle and restore and add 5 songs, but DON'T click the shuffle button yet, just add some songs and eject as normal.
2. Download the most recent version of itunes (currently 7.6) from here : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ - don't unintsall your current one, just download and install this one straight away.
3. Once installed, go on to itunes, and once on itunes, plug in your shuffle 2nd gen, then select it in the devices section and click the shuffle button and eject.
I'm both hoping and assuming that'll catch you more luck than the above method, thanks.
_*3RD METHOD*_
1. Download the most recent version of itunes (currently 7.6) from here : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ - don't unintsall your current one, just download and install this one straight away.
2. On the newly installed itunes, plug in your shuffle and restore.
3. After add some songs, highlight your shuffle in the devices section and turn on the shuffle button at the bottom left.
Eject.
Good Luck!

  • Has anyone solved the iPod touch and Comcast email problem?

The reason I got a touch is to check email when traveling. As of a few weeks ago, I could no longer do this. The comcast.net page now requires Flash and directs me to the install page (which I cannot download to the touch). I asked about this at the Apple Store and the touch doesn't have/cannot have Flash.
Has anyone figured out how to get past the Flash page to just sign in and get email? I am going around with Comcast about this -- they continue to mix up the iPhone and the touch. I will post if I get a solution from them. In the meantime, can anyone help?

If you do NOT have the January Software Update, you must use the Webmail for Comcast. from Safari, type in http://mobilebeta.comcast.net works as advertised.
If you have purchase the January Software update:
    Click 'Mail' Application
    Click 'Other'
    POP Information
'Name' is whatever name you want to call the account
    'Address' is you email address
'Description' Whatever you want to call the account
    Incoming Mail Server
    Host Name = mail.comcast.net
User Name = [Your email address]
Password = [Your password] THIS IS CASE SENSITIVE
    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
    Host Name: smtp.comcast.net
User Name = [Your email address]
Password = [Your password] THIS IS CASE SENSITIVE
It is really easy: just followed comcast for Outlook link

  • Can I store iTunes songs onto the iPod by using it as a HDD?

Hello. I would like to know if I can store iTunes songs onto the iPod but not as a nMP3 player but as an external HDD. For example, suppose I load 1000 songs onto my iPod to listen to, could I take those same 1000 songs and store them as well? 80 GB is about 10 times the storage I'll ever need so instead of backing up all of my songs onto a DVD or external HDD, I wanted to store them on my iPod. I understand that I will be storing the same songs twice (one for listening and one for backup). Is it possible?

A similar issue but with video files. I have created several Gb of video files and backed them up on DVD. Now I want to only store them on the iPod Classic and be able to paly them on the iPod. My current method is to copy the video files onto the iPod (with disk use enabled) and set iTunes to NOT copy songs/video to the iTunes Music folder. Now when the iPod is connected I drag the video files to iTunes and it creates a link to them (located on the iPod whjich is behaving as an external hard disk) and lists them under TV Shows (or Movies). I can now sync them to the iPod and play them successfully.
Although this works I end up with two copies of each video file on the iPod. I am guessing that if I delete the original (data) video file iTunes will get upset and remove the second copy from the iPod as well when I next do a sync.

  • How I managed to solve the problems with the 1.2 iPod/7.0 iTunes Upgrade

As many of you know there are several people that have experienced a problem with or after upgrading their iPods and iTunes. While mine is not the definitive answer, it is one that worked for me and I hope that by sharing this, many will receive a benefit.
This applies mainly to Mac users as my platform is MAC OS X based.
    Proceedure:
    1. Download the stand alone copy of iTunes 7.0
    2. Repair disk permissions. (I found that many of my iTunes permissions were in error after my initial upgrade to 7.0 directly via iTunes)
    3. Perform a hard reset on your iPod (Menu and select buttons)
    4. If your iPod is connected or disconnect it doesn't really matter, just make sure that it is ejected and not being used by iTunes.
    5. Install itunes again.
    6. Now iTunes is installed, it should see your iPod. (It may or may not try to sync. If is syncs let it, if not repeat step 3 with the iPod connected. This should facilitate it being seen by iTunes)
    7. Perform a restore.
    8. Just sit back and wait until it installs all the info back.
I tried this method and it worked. My iPod and iTunes are in perfect unison as before.
    Hope this helps

Don - Specifically, what problems were you having before your fix? I'm able to upgrade my 60GB iPod to firmware 1.2, but then it gets the scrambled screen and freezes. I downgraded to 1.1.2 and re-loaded 1.2 with the same results. So far I haven't located any fixes for this problem, which could be hardware related.

I recently upgraded my Itunes softeware, now itunes will not recognize my IPod Classic. If I delete the current IPod software and reinstall it, would this solve the problem, and if so, I'll need step by step instruction.

    Yep.
    Take a look here:

It appears that SANmp is indeed the most likely source of your problem.

  • Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road.

Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road while driving. For that reason, I'm also not interested in adding in headphones or additional devices that have the desired button functions. Going both forward and back would be great but I would be pleased just to have a "sight-free" way to go forward.
I've seen some mention here and there about ways to maybe change it so the volume buttons change tracks and holding the volume buttons changes the volume... but I don't know what's involved in that or if its even possible/recommended for a new 5th gen iPod. I think its a great device but its sadly lacking in music oriented functions and features... which is disappointing since music is why most people would bother getting one instead of some other "iDevice" :/

Given that you cannot do what you have asked for, perhaps you simply need to find another solution to your root problem.
Presumably, you want to skip to the next track because you don't want to hear the current one, and that is because...
    You don't like it.
You've heard it recently and don't want to hear it now.
Simply don't want to hear it at this time.
For problem number 1. Don't put it on the iPod in the first place. (I know, obvious answer!)
For problem number 2. How about playing from a Smart Playlist (initially created in your iTunes Library) which has only songs you've not played recently?
For problem number 3. Hhhmmm! Create alternative Playlists for use in the car.
As for going back to the start of the "now playing" track.... Well, if your Playlist has only songs that you really, really want to hear, then you'll be looking forward to that rather go back to the beginning of the current song.
I'm not trying to be prescriptive, just giving you food for thought.
(They are all cheaper options than buying a car which can control the iPod from the steering wheel.)

  • How to solve the problem: ipod doesn't  sort tracks by track number

After lots of attempts, I think I've found the solution that solves this problem (is it a BUG of the ipod software last update?).
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
    ===================
For some albums, ipod seams to be not able to sort songs by track number, no matter how you order the tracks through itunes.
This problem normally appears in albums that are NOT of the same artist (ex: soundtracks).
Once you upload on ipod (for ex.) your soundtrack, it can happen, when you browse the ipod in the following way:
    (from the main menu): music -> albums -> <name of the album> -> <tracks list>
that the tracks list IN THE ipod appears NOT sorted by track number.
    SOLUTION
    ========
This problem is due to a particular tag, "album artist": try to DELETE what is written in this tag for each song that doesn't appear in the correct order.
For those that are not aware about itunes:
    1) open itunes when your ipod is connected to the pc
    2) select a song ON THE IPOD that you notice is not in the right position
    3) right click the mouse on it and the select "get info": a popup appears
    4) select the "info" tag on this popup
    5) delete what is written in the text area named "album artist"
    6) click "ok"
    TEST AND REMARK
    ================
Another suggestion, useful to test the result of this action through itunes.
It seams that ipod software makes a specific sequence of queries: when you select a specific album on your ipod, first it groups songs by album name (it seams a nonsense, because the songs that belong to the same album have, of course, the same album name), then by "album artist" and only at the end by track number.
So, if you delete the content of the tag "album artist", automatically ipod should sort all songs by track number.
Therefore, try to make this test: in itunes, in the ipod section, click on the colum "album" in order to sort your album by album name.
If the songs appear in the right order (that is, sorted by tracks), your should have solved the problem.
Hope that this will help the ones who have this problem.

    Very likely yes.
