Some 3rd party plugins "turn off" when I close their window?!

Hey guys,
This is really weird. I run the latest version of Logic 9 on both my studio i% iMac AND my older, core 2 duo MBP. Here's the scoop.
I'm demo'ing some 3rd party plugs and when the plug in window (GUI) is open, the plug works great. If I hit key command "v" to hide the window (although it's still technically "open") no problem. If I CLOSE the GUI by clicking the close icon, the plugin turns off totally, even though it still displays as an active insert on the channel.
Here's the kicker...THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON MY iMAC Running Snow leopard (I'm suspecting this is the issue). My Laptop, running the same logic version, but on the older OSX does not experience the same issue.
Any ideas on how to resolve? It's not the end of the world, but it sure is a pain in the a**.

Hmm, I've never heard of this.
If it only happens on one system, try trashing the preferences. You could have a conflicting key command assignment or something...

  • Some apps crash out when I close their window and switch to the Finder

It has been doing this since day one.  I'm a college student and bought a laptop to replace another really old mac system, to use as my main system.  The issue I'm noting is that on some apps, if I close out their window and switch to the Finder, by either click on the desktop, or by command tabbing.  The application seems to crash.  I say 'seems' becuase I'm not certain it's crashing.  It does this in Text Edit along with pages.  I'm trying to find out if it's supposed to this or if it's supposed to be a new feature.  There is never a crash log made that I know of, nor a dialog box stating the app crashed.  However, it does this by itself, without my quiting out the app by command q nor file>quit.
This has been relatively minor and hasn't caused any large problems.  To me it's an annoyance and inconviencning.  Which is why I waited until summer break at school to investigate.  Other classmates with older mac book pros but the same OS version have not had this problem.  Wondering if I have a botched isntall of OS X from the factory.  I've already had it in for service for the motherboard.  The cooling system was not correctly attached to teh CPU at the factory and cooked itself.
I'm tempted to do a reload of the OS from the diagnostics partition the system came with.  I haven't transferred much of anything from the previous system that this one is replacing.  Now would be an ideal time to do anything of this nature rather than say in the middle of next semester.
The issue occurs in TextEdit, Pages, and that's it so far.  I really have almost nothing loaded on the system.  I dual boot into another OS for using Maya and other various software apps.  The issue does not occur with Safari nor FireFox nor Preview.  It seems confined to Pages and TextEdit.  It can be extremely annoying however when typing an essay in Pages.  Perhaps it's a feature that was introduced that I can turn off?  Going from a 5 year old Mac Mini to a MBP, LOTS has changed.

Sorry for taking so long to reply.  It's still doing it.  I'm kind of wondering if something like a preferences file is corrupted, however, I have to do a total system reload to begin with to eliminate any potential corrupt data on the windows 7 install.
Back story.  When I first got this thing it was running super ridiculously hot.  It's the first laptop I've ever owned however so I had nothign to use for reference.  After about two months of it getting brutally hot, it did a BSOD in the windows 7 install I did via bootcamp.  It never turned back on.  Took it to the Apple store in Novi MI and they stated it somehow ran so brutally hot the CPU did a solder reflow and the whole motherboard shorted out.  Even worse though, I had gotten this hot before rendering stuff in Maya and Vue.  I had done burn in tests when I first received the system, it had passed, or so I thought.  They couldn't even get the system to turn on at the Apple Store.
The tech at the apple store told me that one of the heat sink pins on the CPU just plan broke off and another wasn't attached correctly.  Essentially the system kept overheating as I was consisently completely maxxing out the system doing CGI test renders for my junior animated short film.  The cooling system was never fully connected at the factory according to the Apple Tech.  I don't know how literate everyone reading this is on computer engineering but, when you overheat an IC, whether it's an ASIC or CPU, they dont' immediately crash, they corrupt data.  To further complicate the mess and increase teh chances of data corruption, with the 4th gen Intel i series CPUs (which the MBP uses), they moved the northbridge directly into the CPU die.  So if teh CPU is overheating, the chances of data corruption inadvertantly go up even higher.  I'm suspecting that happened in the first few days of owning the system but that it was minor at that point.  It can take months for the effects of corrupted data to propagate out and be visible to the user.
I would assume that they did a diagnostic test on the SSD when it was in for service, to ensure the SSD didn't overheat.  The tech did state that if the drive failed the diagnostics, they would have ot replace the drive and henceforth all my data would be gone.  Not really a way around it.
Currently under the windows 7 install with Maya and Vue, later iterations of the scene file, from Maya, for my animated short film, have a reproduceable glitch involving a gamma shift and camera selection.  Part of the scene files seem to be corrupt and were saved that way.
Reloading the OS from the recovery partition did not fix the original problem I've been having that I initially asked for help with.  I'm considering wiping out the recovery partition in addition to reinstalling windows 7 and OS X again, it would be the only way to completely eliminate the possibility of any corrupted data floating around on either partition.  I don't have a way of knowing if corrupted data was written to the SSD beyond the corrupted Maya scene files.  The only way I can be sure that it's 'contained' or eliminated, is if I completely wipe the drive and start from scratch.  Now would be a great time rather than in the middle of working on my senior thesis for my BFA degree.
I'm wondering if you could point me to documentation showing how to wipe out all the partitions, including the recovery one.  My understanding is that there is a way to do a 'net boot' or 'net recovery' over a broadband connection using Apples servers.  The idea of doing a Live boot from a Ubuntu distro to run fsck is appealing but it would be pointless.  The file system shoul be fine, it's the data the file system points to that I suspect is corrupted at somepoint.  Unless you recommend otherwise and or formatting.
The overheating also corrupted my journal but there is no way to recover it, I overwrote the earlier file(it looks like uncompiled C++ and jibberished text) when I saved it after completing an entry.  This was many months ago.  Though the idea of attempting a restore with Ubuntu Remix or other recovery Linux distros is appealing I'm doubtful I'd get far, though it's an SSD not a traditional harddrive and they don't work the same.
Back to the main point though, I suspect the overheating corrupted a prefs file which is causing the glitch I'm seeing, and reloading the OS did not fix it.

  • I continuesly get this message when I try to open some 3rd party plugins ?

I have just updated battery to ver 3 its been about 2 weeks now and I have just opened a project and I get this message Error code -1 was returnd by core audio driver . Does any one know what this means ? I have been crippled
    G5 Quad G5 dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   R.M.E firface 800 Logic 7.2.3 PT 002R PT TDM DP 5.1

I would guess that it is a generic error meaning that the audio unit plugin could not be initialised and failed to load - usually due to an installation or authorisation issue in the plugin.
Does the affected plugin work in other hosts, such as Garageband?

  • Is there any 3rd party plugin that turn on native HDV editing feature?

    Hello,
I love iMovie, but I'd really like to see native HDV editing feature. I guess Apple will never do this, so maybe there is some 3rd party plugin for iMovie that will allow to edit HDV without recompression?

HDV is mp2-encoded material on miniDV cassette.. the 'nature' of mpeg2 doesn't allow a frame-precise editing (only GOP precision, as used in mpeg editors as Streamclip of ProjectX); if you do any editing (adding disolve, titles, effect) you have to encode/'recompress' .. - the 'AppleIntermediate Codec' iMovie uses to make such imports editable is a lossless codec.. so, what should add a 'native HDV' editing...?

  • ITunes Plus ugrade finally working - make sure 3rd party plug ins off

Just read in a pinned post in the other iTunes folder here that you should disable any third party iTunes plug ins before trying to ugrade to iTunes Plus. I have SRS iWow as a plug in. So I disabled it and tried to upgrade again. Bingo. All my tracks downloading now!

First of all, make sure you have not moved the application icon or the application folder from the default install location, and that you have not created subfolders there in a misguided attempt to "organize" things.
Secondly, please tell us what you upgraded from. If you had been running some 3rd party plugins that are not written for Universal Binary, they may not run in a newer OS or a newer machine.
Third, please see the documentation or Adobe Photoshop's Principal Program Manager John Nack's blog for the stuff that
    was taken out in CS4:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/10/where_did_extra.html
Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow is right there where it's always been. If you don't see it, you're either in 16 bits or have a bad install.

  • Flickering graphics in Logic - especially 3rd party plugins

I see a lot of people reporting (myself included) "flickering" of graphics in Logic, especially in 3rd party plugins so I decided to post a video of it occurring. Is this a "known issue"? I will be reporting it to Apple, and I hope everyone else experiencing it will do the same. Please watch the video and provide any input that you might have. Thanks!
    https://youtu.be/y_G0Q8J2Egw

    Hi Clancy,
Could it be related to a Retina display?
Possibly... but as you know, I cannot test for that as i don't have a Retina display... (and frankly I'm not sure I want one at this time ) and I could recreate it on a standard screen using the same 3rd party plugin as the OP used... so i think it isn't specifically a Retina issue but... maybe retina 'enhances' the problem because of the extra load placed on the Graphical hardware/routines
    So...
Is the OP is using a Retina display with his Mac Pro?
I suspect however, given the video he posted, demonstrating the issue occurring with the PSP MasterQ2 plugin...that it's only happening with some 3rd party plugins.... (as again he stated "especially with 3rd party plugins" which really might mean... only with.. depending on how you 'translate' that) and therefore my comments earlier.
Finally while the number of posts about this issue is actually rather small ( as far as i can determine from some detailed searching at least).... the thread on GS seems to indicate it's been going on since early versions of LPX and is related to Yosemite rather than LPX itself...
    https://www.gearslutz.com/board/logic-pro-x/987219-logic-10-1-0-crazy-flashing-g raphics-plugins.html
...and some people have been reporting the same sort of flickering issues with other 3rd party apps and also plugins for apps like Aperture for example... after upgrading to 10.10... again indicating its a general Yosemite issue rather than a specific app issue.

  • Why are illustrator CS4 3rd party plugin panels taking minutes to load?

    Hello Everyone
I use IL on Mac and use some 3rd party plugins with my software [This problem is most noticeable with the Cvalley plugins - Filterit and Xtreampath]. The problem is that often they'll take many minutes to load and stay as blank grey panels [as seen in the picture] with no manipulatable variables - does anyone know the reason for this and how to speed up their load time? as you'd imagine it slows me down a lot.
Here's an image of one of the dreaded blank panels; http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d188/OphidianShenzi/blankpanel-1.jpg
Thank you greatly in advance again.

Are any of them PowerPC plugins (pre-2006)?

  • Cineform and other 3rd party plugins for Creative Cloud, what happened to them?

Hi I don't want to panic but I just downloaded Adobe Premiere CC and it's telling me that I've rendered my previous project with a 3rd party plugin that isn't available. What is the process of installing my 3rd party plugins to premiere so I can edit with Blackmagic codecs, Cineform, and multiple others I have enjoyed using in CS6.

I followed the instructions from the Cineform site as given by scarolan_CS4 (thanks for that).
    http://support.cineform.com/entries/24336007-A-Do-It-Yourself-Guide-to -adding-CineForm-support-in-Adobe-CC-Windows-
    Works like a charm.
The only issues I have are:
Cineform plugs (except for levels) don't work. But they didn't work on CS5.5 and CS6 either - plus cá change.
I'm getting the 'saving metadata' when closing PP error back - I'd forgotten how I'd dealt with that, switched something off in prefs, if I remember (more internet searching!) This wasn't happening before I copied the Cineform directories to their CC locations, so I suspect it's related in some way.
The editing presets and the rendering presets all work fine.
    ======================================
I've also had good luck with other 3rd party plugins. I created a junction type link from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\CS6\MediaCore to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore. The default mediacore directory is empty so this works, but I copied across 3rd party directories and files in the individual plugin folders for PP and AE as there are default Adobe files in there which may be different from CS6 to CC.
Note that I also created a junction from Photoshop 64 plugins for CS6 to CC and this also works a treat.
Just thought I'd mention it to show that it can work, I'm chuffed that it does as I was anticipating a system OS install to enable plugins to work and to keep 15-20% of my system SSD free.
If this junction stuff is too complicated (and you don't mind having two sets of the same files or deleting the older versions) just copy the plugin and relevant settings files instead. I assume this will work, although I haven't specifically tested it myself.
You can find free utilities to create junction links for Windows or this can be done via the command line. I forget the name of the utility I use, it works via the context menu. I have found that junction tends to work better than symbolic linking or other types of file 'aliasing' for most of my fumbling about with this solution.
This stuff sounds more complicated than it is, once someone has given the steps to take and you have installed the junction/symbolic linking utility it's just a matter of following the steps.
EDIT - I (re-)found the solution to the
Metadata. Metadata writing in progress (n files pending)
    error -
Go to Edit>Preferences>Media and uncheck Write XMP ID to Files on Import (thanks to Jim Simon on this forum for this).

  • Possible to control 3rd party plugin/palette?

Is it possible to write something (JavaScript/COM programming/plugin) that has access to a 3rd party plugin/palette? I'm talking about XMPie uDirect. XMPie doesn't offer an official API for the plugin but I want to invoke a special action automatically that can be accessed only by the plugin's InDesign palette. I want some kind of automation.

This won't work, sorry. The palette cannot be controlled through the menus... except showing/hiding it.
I got the same idea with system events. It would be great to have a program that sniffs system events and gives information when I press a special button in the InDesign palette. The 3rd party plugin should be a kind of library like DLL that exports functions. Does anybody know a program that can monitor InDesign.exe with all its sub-processes, DLL handles and called DLL functions?
[Edit:] I tried a DLL viewer which can open and show XMPie's plugin files XMPBackEnd5.apln and XMPFrontEnd5.apln (APLN = InDesign PlugIn). They seem to be normal DLL files. If anybody knows the secrets of "decrypting" DLLs it would be nice to know if this can help me. I need to invoke the plugin's commands for XMPie's "Dynamic Print" (new dialog opens) and then just confirm with "OK" to start the export.

  • 3rd Party Plugins Have Disappeared After OS X Mavericks Update

Hi. I'm have a bit of a panic here.
I'm a sound engineer and I use Mainstage 2 frequently to run all FX live for a variety of artists.
After reading forums with regards to the Mavericks update, I found no evidence of it causing issues with Mainstage of Logic.
HOWEVER, I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks yesterday and Mainstage has decided to throw a massive wobbly. When I load up my show, it says "The plug-in named 'XXXXX' is not available on your sysem." It's done this for every single 3rd-party plugin on my machine so I basically have nothing! Good one Apple!
I restored my machine to a backup I took just before the OS upgrade. Guess what.......it's even doing it there now! It's back on Snow Leopard. I've been into the folders and all the plugins are there. For some reason, Mainstage isn't finding them. I'm at a total loss and about to throw this thing out the window.
    Can anybody save me???
    Thanks.
    Jonny

Verified and repaired disk permissions but still no luck.
I thought Time Machine was meant to put the computer back to its exact state at the time of back-up?!
Anybody know if there's a UK phone number for an expert on Logic/Mainstage?!
    Thanks.

  • 3rd Party Plugins

I have been enjoying some of Logics plugins and would like to partake of other plugins out there that people rave about. I don't have an indepth understanding of how the plugins interface with Logic. Can I just buy say a Waves bundle and load the software into logic and start using the plugins? Do I need to buy a special card that will allow me to use the plugins.
Do 3rd party plugins create any difficult latency problems. I understand that adding any plugin will cause latency, but as long as Logic can be adjusted to compensate for it that doesn't bother me.

Can I just buy say a Waves bundle and load the software into logic and start using the plugins?
Yep. Logic will automatically see any third-party AU plugins installed on your computer.
Do I need to buy a special card that will allow me to use the plugins.
In general, no - "Native" plugins run on the computer. There are some types of plugins that run on hardware cards, such as UAD-1 plugins or Powercore plugins, but the vast majority of plugins are native.
Do 3rd party plugins create any difficult latency problems.
No, they work exactly the same as Logic's internal plugins.
I understand that adding any plugin will cause latency,
No, Logic will compensate for latency when it can except when you are monitoring in realtime, because this is impossible. The same is true for Logic plugins that require some buffer overhead to work.
but as long as Logic can be adjusted to compensate for it that doesn't bother me.
Yep, there is no practical difference between using internal Logic plugins and external third-party ones.

Kernel panics are usually hardware related.  Disconnect all peripherals from your computer and try the suggestions mentioned in these articles - Kernel Panics? Don't panic too!  and   "You need to restart your computer" (kernel panic) message appears (Mac OS X v10.5, 10.6)
Crashing can cause directory damage.  Therefore, you should do the following to check after resolving your kernel panic issue -
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.
    Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Use Software Update to update your os to 10.6.8 and anything else that needs to be updated.  The combo update may help your situation.  Outdated os, software & hardware can cause issues with your computer.  For 3rd party items, you will need to check with the manufacturer for all updates.

  • Disappearing "3rd Party Plugin" option

I recently tried to change the search path for 3rd party plugins to my After Effects plugins folder (Applications > Affter Effects > Plug-ins). They still wouldn't show up when I'd open Motion and navigate to the 3rd Party folder in the Library. So I gave up and didn't bother with it any more.
I was more distracted by the fact that none of my Replicators or Particle Emitters were showing up, so I re-installed (or possibly installed for the first time, this is a work computer, so I didn't do the initial installation) the Motion Content and they all appeared as expected. Now, here's what's confusing me:
When I go into Motion's Preferences now, there is no longer even an option to set the path for 3rd Party Filters and Plugins (under the Content Library & Templates section)...
Anyone know how I can fix this and get my plugins to work? I didn't have any trouble doing it on an ancient G4 Powerbook, but for some reason a fully-loaded MacPro is being difficult with me.
    Thanks for any help.

I'm sorry, I don't think I explained this clearly enough:
My problem is NOT that the plug-ins won't show up in my Library after I set the path to a particular folder in Motion's Preferences.
My problem is that there is no longer even an option anymore to set the path to a particular folder in Motion's Preferences! It was there before, and now it has just disappeared! I don't know how to get it back. When I open Motion's Preferences pane now, in the General section, the sections are as follows:
    Startup
    Interface
    File Browser & Library
    Content Library & Templates
    Media
    Keyframe Editor
Normally, the "3rd Party Plugins" section is right below the "Content Library & Templates" section, but it's not there anymore...
I apologize for any confusion caused by an earlier post and hope my problem is more clearly understood now. Thanks!
