Some Aperture-rendered photos

No, these aren't great photos -- I'm still learning to use my new Nikon D50 and lenses -- but I thought I'd post a link to these to show what Aperture is capable of, at least with the D50, even by a novice.
Note that ALL processing, from import to Web gallery creation, was done solely in Aperture.

"It is not to say anything about your photos of your work."
I realize that. I didn't say anything to the contrary. In fact, what I said was that it does in fact show us something about Aperture, contrary to your comment.
"The fact that you can import photos from your camera, and output them to a webpage without destroying the color should not be advertised as a feature"
I didn't say that Aperture "didn't destroy the color". I said I did color correction in Aperture. That is, the colors you see are the RESULT of Aperture's tools, not DESPITE them. (Pretty much ANY digital camera image is going to need SOME color correction, ESP. raw images. So it's not a case of the software doing no harm, its a case of the software enhancing things well and correctly.)
"Corrupted images and green splotches are commonplace."
I've seen those images. Undeniably, this is true of SOME cameras. But (yes, luckily, as you say), not of mine, so it is simply false to paintbrush Aperture with this (or even to call this "commonplace", I'd wager).
"Aperature isnt meant for "enhancing" the looks of your photos"
To a certain degree it most certainly is! See my above comments about the need for correction to (most) ANY raw image.
"If you were offended,"
Not in the least! I just didn't agree with your assertion that we learn nothing from looking at the finished results of Aperture processing to web galleries.
"I still say it doesnt properly represent anything about Aperatures features or issues."
Yeah, that statement right there. Which I still disagree with.
"Maybe breakdown how you got to this point"
Sure: I imported the raw images into a project, I used Aperture's filters to do color correction, levels, etc., I created a Web gallery of the selected versions, and then I told Aperture to export the Web gallery files, which I uploaded to my server.
", and any issues, good experiences, or bad experiences while doing it."
No issues yet, after about 400 images imported and processed.

  • What causes some Aperture 3 photos to be duplicated with different (usually 2x) file sizes?

I have a number of projects where, for reasons I can't fathom, duplicate photos exist with different sizes.  In some cases, the one of the dupes was imported and renamed, and the other file will have the original (camera) filename; in other cases, dupes exist with exactly the same name but different sizes.  There are more than a few of these--like 15% of some projects.
Either I'm doing something wrong, or the photos are spawning.
Also, I have looked at high magnification with the loupe, and cannot tell any quality difference between these duplicates (such as one file that'sl 3.3MB and another that shows as 6.6MB.  That makes no sense.
Using Aperture 3 with (nearly all) managed files.
    Would appreciate any help--thanks!

William, I have done almost zero editing external to Aperture, so don't think that's it.
I have only been using Aperture for about a year--previous photo management was file-by-file with ACDSee Pro on PC--so I'm still not a virtuoso.  When I "show original image" for the apparent dupes that show up in the browser, the image size shown in the File Info field of the inspector is the same as before showing the original.
Per léonie's question, above, I have imported both iPhoto and Aperture libraries (from a MacBook) - but thought I did it using the import command, not through Finder.
When I look at the duplicate files, the import date is always different for them.
I use an app called "Photosweeper" to find and delete duplicates.  It doesn't consider these files duplicates using a byte-by-byte compare, but if I have it look for time & histogram, it will consider them dupes.  In some cases, I renamed the files during an import session, but only started doing that consistently a few months ago--so sometimes they show with the same filename, sometimes they don't.  In addition, some that have been captioned have the captions in BOTH versions that show.
I'm probably not as precise in my info or my questions as I should be, but appreciate your help and look forward to any additional insights as to why this is happening and which files (versions?) to keep!

  • I created two Aperture libraries from one large library. Some of the photos in library

I created two Aperture libraries from one large library. Some of the photos I want to keep in library #2 are in the trash of library #1.  If I empty the trash of library #1, will it affect the same photos that were moved to library #2?  I moved over 2,000 photos to create library #2.  Their names are showing in the trash of library #1.

Are your images referenced or managed? If your partial libraries are referencing the same original files as the library you exported them from, be careful. Deleting the orignal on one library #1can delete it from the  library #2. But if your originals are managed by Aperture inside the Aperture library, you can delete them.
I moved over 2,000 photos to create library #2.  Their names are showing in the trash of library #1.
If you are not sure about referenced or managed, select one of the images you want to keep in the library where they are not in the Trash, then use the command "File > Show in Finder". If you can reveal them in the Finder, they are referenced and probably are shared between your libraries.
Or turn on "badge referenced files" in the Preferences > Appearance settings. Then your referenced images will show arrow badges.

  • Only some of my photo's are syncing from iPhoto to my iPad, iPhone and Apple TV.

Only some of my photo's are syncing from iPhoto to my iPad, iPhone and Apple TV.
It may be my own fault due to learning Aperture and playing around with the locations of the Master Files.
The thing I don't understand is that when in iPhoto all thumbnails of all photo's are able to be enlarged / edited etc. When a thumbnail is clicked on there is no gray triangle with an exclamation mark indicating that the link to the original photo can't be found. I would have thought this was ok for syncing to take place.
When trying to sync through iTunes to my iPad for example (after some photo's have been synced) a window comes up saying "Some of your photos, including the photo “_MG_3820.jpg”, were not copied to the iPad “Mark Harlen’s iPad” because they cannot be displayed on your iPad".
I thought this may be due to lack of memory space but my Apple TV (which has the same issue but not the same warning window) has over over 100 free GB's so that can't be it.
When I did a test and re imported one photo that wasn't being synced to my other devices, that photo consequently was then synced so maybe it has something to do with the path through iPhoto to the original files.
Is there any way I can re establish these links with out having to create an entire new iPhoto library from the originals (I have a lot of albums and have done a lot of editing etc and don't and want to have to do it all again).
I look forward to you help and advice
    Mark

Thanks for the advice but it didn't seem to work
I've decided to try ditching iPhoto and orgainising, syncing my photo's to all devices from Aperture
I have so far imported over 1200 photo's (relocating and renaming the master files as well) and find that when syncing through iTunes only 209 photo's are listed. The Projects/Albums are there but some indicate that there are 0 photo's in them when I know other wise (at least according to whats happing in Aperture)
I'm starting to suspect it may be a computer problem
    Any thoughts?
    Regards
    Mark
PS: Just after posting this I restarted my computer, went into iTunes and my Apple TV started to sync. It was now syncing 854 photo's not 209 as before.

  • New Macbook Pro with Lion, installed Aperture - all photos disappear

    Just bought a MacBook Pro:
    2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1
My old computer crashed so I transfered a folder full of photos to my computer inside of a Documents file.  Some of these photos came from my previous version of iPhoto and some of the were not imported into any program at all.  I want to clean and organize my photos before importing them into any program. I do not wish to create extra clutter on my computer by importing them at this time, being that I have a very clean machine at this time.
So, I got Aperture, newest version (software updated as of this morning) and was planning to import my photos once I organized all of them.
However, now that I've installed Aperture, the folder of my pictures that is located in My Documents is now reading that there are (0) photos, so I can't even organize them.  Also, if I run Aperture and try to import a photo, it doesn't recognize that any photos exist.
Now, if I look up All My Files in the Finder window, it shows that I do infact have over 9k Images, most of these being my photos that are not showing up in their file folder.  Some of these however are not conventional photos but are PDFs that I do not wish to hang out in any photo organizing/editing program.
So, why can't I see my photos so I can organize them via my Finder folder in My Documents when I recovered them from my old computer?
They were never imported into my new computer's iPhoto, nor were they ever imported into my new computer's Aperture.  But I can all of them in the All My Files?
    Any help would be appreciated.

I was able to find my photos, they were strangly refiled in a different file folder.
Seems like Aperture is still having troubles populating the images, but I find if I open and close import, or close and repoen Aperture, then the photos will populate.
    Buggy though for sure.

  • Aperture 3: Photos don't display in browser or Viewer

Some of my photos don't display in the browser or Viewer panels. It's displayed as greyed out. I am running Aperture 3.2.2. I have tired to rebuild permissions and the database without luck. Updating the preview doesn't work either. For some of the photos, if I double click, the photo appears in the Viewer panel but when I double click it goes back to the greyed out view.

  • How to use Aperture 3 Photo to make a card in iPhoto?

I have been using Aperture 3 exclusively for a couple of years and now I would like to create some cards in the iPhoto Letterpress process using some of these photos. Some would be blank to write a message to family & friends, some Holiday designed cards etc
When I went to make a birthday card (as a test) to send to a cousin, I wasn't able to create it using the Aperture 3 image I wanted . Do I have to import them into iPhoto?
    Thanks / Gene

    Two ways:
If you generate previews in Ap 3 then you can share them with the iLife and iWork apps. (AP 3 preferences). Then, in iPhoto go File -> Show Aperture Library. You'll get a Media Browser window. You can then drag an image from there to the  iPhoto Window. This yields your Ap 3 Preview.
    or
Export from Aperture (File -> Export) to the Finder and then import to iPhoto.

  • Can anyone explain to me why some of my photos are landing in events and others are appearing only in photo stream?

I want to delete photos from camera roll on my iPhone to clear space to install ios7 but after importing photos to iPhoto on my macbook pro only 4 out of 339 photos taken in September landed in events, though all 339 are in Sept photo stream. It seems like on previous uploads all photos "fell" into events according to the day they were taken, as well as into photostream. I want to make sure these photos stick around permanently and do not exist only in photo stream where I imagine they will eventually be bumped from my computer (photostream). Can anyone explain why some of my photos are landing in events and others are appearing only in photo stream?

You have uploaded two different things - pHotos are in one and only one event - if you have the same photo in two different events then you have imported it twice
Please explain what you want - your initial question and yoru current comments are 180 degrees apart
You say they are not all in events
Can anyone explain to me why some of my photos are landing in events and others are appearing only in photo stream?
    Now you say they are
All 15 pics appear in  Sept 2013 PS
It sound to me like you have no problem except you imported some photos twice adn you may not understand how the automatic import form PS works - but that is not clear
you can choose to have all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically downloaded. In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, to select Photo Stream > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will be imported into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture.
The event they are imported into is MMMM YYYY PS
If you import via iTunes sync or by connecting your IOS device via USB then they are importeed into the regular event structrue as defined in your iphoto preferences - and if you imoport via two or more different methods you will ahe duplicates

  • When publishing video files in H.264 format, I get the error "No rendered photo exists on disk"

I want to export images as well as videos (.mov files) by using the Publishing Manager in Lightroom 5.6 under Windows 7, 64 Bit. For this I activated "Include Video Files" in the Publishing Manager and set "Video Format" to "H.264". When publishing, all photos are correctly published. The videos, however, are not published. Instead Lightroom returns the error: "Some export operations were not performed.", "No rendered photo exists on disk" followed by a list of the videos that could not be exported.
If I select "Original, unedited file" for "Video Format" instead, the videos are published. Also, if I manually export the videos (without using the Publishing functionality), the export works.
How can I publish videos using the H.264 format?

Thanks Brett, I'll try to recreate it
I just tried to export it again but this time to the desktop, not a Sandisk USB, and this time it created 4 different files, one being audio only and when I tried to play/open the others it gave a 'server error' dialogue  window and I couldn't get a screen shot while this was open.

I'd like to remove a thin line that is part of the page design in one of Aperture's photo books.  I can't seem to make it happen.  Any suggestions?

The mouse that came with my Mac does not have a right click feature. When I try to highlight and click, it just opens the link I don't want anymore. What I want to do is remove unwanted links from the top bar. For example, I no longer use GoodSearch or myEarthLink, but I can't delete them. There are also some links that never should have found their way up there, and I don't know how they ended up there, and I can't remove them either. I've read through a ton of questions and answers, and I can't find one that addresses the problem. With my Safari browser, all I have to do to remove an unwanted link is to click and drag it to the trash. It doesn't appear to work that way with Firefox, to my chagrin. I hope this better explains my question. Maybe that will give you a better insight into a solution.

  • Difference between iPhoto and Aperture and photo storage

I'm thinking about upgrading from iPhoto to Aperture but I'm a little confused about the differences in the way photo edits are handled. The iPhoto to Aperture page says that Aperture stores photo changes in one photo rather than duplicating them, therefore taking up less space. BUT they also use a unified shared library. So how is it possible for Aperture to handle edits differently if the library is now shared between the two applications?

Aperture may save you some space if you choose not to generate previews, but then you won't be able to integrate with other apps.
As Terence Devlin says. But being able to manage the Previews is quite a space saver. In Aperture you can selectively generate previews only for the photos that you want to share with other applications, and you can specify the size and quality of the previews you want. iPhoto on the other hand will always create previews for all photos, and all in very high quality. In Aperture I delete previews for redundant photos and keep the previews only for my highest ratest photos that I am likely to share with other applications and want to use as a screensaver or slideshow.
If you share your photo library between Aperture and iPhoto and edit a photo in iPhoto, then iPhoto will add a preview for this photo, even if you disabled previews in Aperture.

  • After migrating data from Time Machine, some of my photos are not showing up in iPhoto. I get a 'dashed rectangle." When I click on it I get ' ! in a Triangle" When I click on that, I actually can see the photo. I want to see my photos

After migrating data from Time Machine, some of my photos are not showing up in iPhoto LIbrary view. I get a 'dashed rectangle." When I click on it I get ' ! in a Triangle" When I click on that, I actually can see the photo. I want to see all  my photos in 'Library' view, and I can't figure out how these photos seem to be arbitrarily hidden. Help, please.

Try these for the first attempt:
First be sure to have a backup copy of the library if you already don't have one.

  • I am trying to make a DVD of some of my photos in iPhoto 11.   The photos are in iPhoto, but in one of my external hard drives.   I have been able to make DVD's just recently, but not now.  What can I do?  At the end I get a notice of "failure

HELP, HELP, I am having difficulty making a DVD-R  of some photos I have in one of my folders in iPhoto 11.   I use iPhoto on my external HD.   I have never had problems before today making copies of my photos using DVD-R disk.   I am doing the same thing that worked before.   Some of my photos are going to be put in a gallery for showing and I need to make a DVD so they can choose which ones to display and enlarge the photos.   It was due TODAY!  Yikes!  At the end of each try I get a window saying "BURN FAILED - The burn to the OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670S drive failed.  The disk drive didn't respond properly and can't recover or retry."    help...........

How are you getting the photo onto the disk to burn?  Have you tried exporting then to a folder on the Desktop and then burning that folder to disk using the Finder.  That will give you a data disk with just the jpeg image files in the folder.
If that's what you're doing and getting the burn failed then it's a system or optical drive issue.
If you're using the Share  ➙ Burn menu in iPhoto that will create a disk with a mini iPhoto library on it that can only be used by another Mac running iPhoto.
Can you elaborate on your workflow.

  • After updating to Yosemite some of my photos will open and then Ill get a black screen with an apostrophe.  How can I fix this?

After updating my OS to Yosemite 10.10.1 some of my photos will not display.  All of the previews will be there but when I click to open them they open up larger for a second and then the screen goes black and I get a grey apostrophe sign.  I updated iPhoto to 9.6 (910.29) and also repaired my permissions.  The problem still exists.  Can anyone help me?  I also have issues with iTunes but that's another story.

According to the link I provided it could still have its logging service running.  Did you read the info in the link I provided?  You can check it by launching Activity Monitor and under CPU search for cleanup.
Since the photos are in the library I don't see the need at this time to reinstall iPhoto.  Maybe later.  Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
