Some Applications won't launch in RDP

I am using RDP to get into some Hyper-V VMs.  Most applications launch no problem but I have a few similar ones that will launch local on the server through the VM Connector but when I use RDP they won't launch.

Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server forum.
What’s the server & client OS using in your environment? Also let us know the RDP version used.
In meanwhile please check that the application which you want to take RDP does not have any compatibility issue for the server or client you are using. Because it might happens sometime due to compatibility reason. As you already mentioned that there is issue
with some specific application.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

  • Non-Apple applications won't launch

On Intel iMac, recently many non-Apple applications won't launch, including Photoshop, Indesign, Quicken, Filemaker, Techtool Pro. On the other hand, Mail, Safari, iPhoto, iTunes, Pixadex, Ultralingua all launch just fine. The non-launchers quickly present the window with Ignore, Report..., Relaunch; and using Relaunch just brings the window up again.
I've tried Disk Utility, both from the drive and from the OSX install disk; Time Machine back to just before the problem started; removed .plist file from Preferences: all to no avail.
While this problem started one week ago, we have had a new iPhone 3G since July 12 (since I see a few discussions with the same error codes related to iPhone).
Below are the error reports for Photoshop and Filemaker, and some system info.
What can I do to fix this? Thanks!

No idea what caused it, but your PPC emulator is definitely hosed and doing a clean installation would probably be less time consuming than figuring out what the problem is.
This is also all very old software that was never meant to run in Leopard at all, so you should consider the possibility that some of it will simply never work.

  • Why have my notes and contacts been deleted and my applications won't launch

I tried using my iPad mini today but both my notes and contacts have been deleted and my applications either won't launch at all or launch for a few minutes and then shutdown. I also tried to download another app which said had been downloaded but I couldn't find it anywhere, the same thing happened with another app I downloaded. It was working fine yesterday and I haven't updated it or done anything out of the ordinary since then. What's wrong?

There are some simple troubleshooting steps you can take.
Be sure you drive is not overly full. Rule of thumb would be over 85%.
Create a new User go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair this with the The 10.6.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

  • Applications won't launch in Yosemite OS X

After installing Yosemite OS X some applications such as Photoshop CS6, Firefox won't launch. The icons of the applications keep bounching in the dock and after a while it will stop bounching  with the message "Application Not Responding". Seems like every application which isn't by Apple has launching problems...
Need help to fix this fast.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Some apps won't launch, causing kernel_task to go crazy

    Hey,
I'm not sure exactly when this first started, I guess sometime when Mavericks came out. It made me go back to Mountain Lion 10.8.5, but that didn't seem to help.
The problem is that some apps (Spotify and a few more) won't launch, they just keep bouncing until I force them to quit. And this is where kernel_task is hitting 100% and preventing logout/shutdown the computer. When I open those apps in Safe Mode, however, everything works as normal and I've no trouble restarting when I'm in Safe Mode. Must be something software related then?
    I've tried:
    - Reinstalling Mountain Lion via App Store
    - Reinstalling the 10.8.5 combo update
    - Repairing disk permissions
    - Resetting SMC/NVRAM
    - Deleting as many mods as I can find
    - I have nothing connected to the mac more than a mouse and the charger

If you installed Mavericks then booted into recovery, the reinstall option there would be to reinstall Mavericks, not Mountain Lion.
Erasing your HD is correct but did you migrate your data when asked during the install?  If so, you can copy all the old problems back over.  A clean install involves no migration at all.   It is an involved process.  None of your apps like spotify will be there after a clean install.  If you don't have a backup or clone, you would lose all your data in a clean install.
If you make only acts normal during a safe mode boot, then the most likely cause of your problems is a third party launch agent/daemon/kext.    This would also explain why the problems also happen for the new user you created.
You can try posting a list of the 3rd party applications currently installed.  One of the simplier ways to do this is with the following program.
Etrecheck the program you want is called Etrecheck, post the output and you'll get suggestions on what to uninstall for testing purposes

  • Some apps won't launch after downloading

I've downloaded and "successfully" installed some applications from the cloud according to the application manager. Bridge, Ai; Id; Muse and Ps will launch without a problem, however Pr family products; Dw; Ae; and Media Encoder  won't launch. All except Dw at least get a splash screen and then crash, Dw just goes nowhere. I've uninstalled the later apps using the uninstaller and tried re-downloading Dw but still doesn't work. What's going on here?
Using a Mac Pro with Mac OS X 10.7.4

I'm having the same problem.  Have you found a solution yet?
    Thanks.

  • Some apps won't launch? (lion)

I bought my Macbook Pro 3 days ago and installed FaceTab for Facebook. It worked fine until today and the problem is that when I want to launch it, it just won't launch. Other Apple built-in apps work fine like iMovie, iPhoto etc. I looked for some alternatives to the FaceTab and found Facelet and I still have the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • Some apps won't launch

Mail, Safari, iTunes, iPhoto, and iWeb won't launch. (Maybe a few others, so far all are apple apps.) Before this happened I did the updates for iTunes and Safari that came out on 4/2/2010. I restarted and now they won't work. Any ideas? Please Help! Thanks.

Hi Harris, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
(If perchance you cant Find your Install Disk, at least do the Safe Boot part above).
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • FCE HD application won't launch

    Hi -
My capture scratch disk was full, so i copied some media from my current project over to my external HD, then deleted it from the original capture scratch folder. i got a message saying that some media was in use, but i planned on reconnecting it from the external drive late, so i quit FCE. now FCE HD won't launch at all. none of my projects will launch it. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

It sounds like you've corrupted the project or the media. Try trashing your preferences, unmounting the drive has has the media, and launch the application, not the project. Does the application open? If no, think about removing all its components and reinstalling it. If yes, open the project, watch to see exactly where in the launch cycle it fails.

  • Some applications won't open after updating to OS 10.8.5

I am running the Mountain Lion on a 2009 Macbook Air. I just did an update to 10.8.5 and now some of my applications won't open. A few of the appications that no longer run are Chrome, iPhoto and all Microsoft applications.
I tried uninstalling an reinstalling the apps but that did nothing, I also tried creating a new user account to see if the problem persisted in there and it did. I then tried removing my caches folder from Library which also fixed nothing. I then tried booting it in safe mode and the applications successfully opened in there.
I obviously can't just boot my Macbook up in safe mode whenever I need to use it so if anyone knows how this problem could be solved? They were all functioning normally before I did the most recent update of OS.
I have tried repairing the disk permissions but that resulted in no change also. I do not have the start up disk for Mountain Lion so reinstalling the OS is not possible, nor is booting from disk.
I'm in my final year of college, in the middle of my final year project I REALLY need this fixed.

When I try to open iPhoto, Unity, Chrome or a few others it gives me the same error each time. "iPhoto cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X"
But that doesn't make sense because I just updated the OS and all my applications are up to date also. I've tried reinstalling, no joy though.

  • Applications won't launch.  (Quit unexpectedly)

This problem just started today. I think it may have something to do with cleaning out my hard drive of stuff I didn't need. I ran 2 programs, Monolingual, which deletes all unnecessary languages from Safari, Adium, etc. The other program I ran was iDefrag, which obviously defragments your hard drive.
Now, a bunch of my applications won't open, but rather I get the '___ quit unexpectedly' dialog. For some reason, iTunes seems unaffected, but Safari and Firefox and Disk Utility and a whole slew of other apps (pretty much every Apple app that I tried to open) won't even open, and I get the 'quit unexpectedly' message.
Does anyone have ANY clue why this is happening? I've tried restarting, but nothing. And I can't even repair my disk permissions because Disk Utility and Terminal won't open, they are messed up as well.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
Also, make sure you have sufficient disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

  • Lightroom won't load catalog, application won't launch

After using my Lightroom catalog and images on an external drive for several years, suddenly the application won''t load either today. Instead, I get this error message:
"...Lightroom Catalogs can not be opened on network volumes, removable storage, or read only volumes..."
Lightroom appears to be mis-identifying my external drive, won't let me access my files, and won't even launch! Prior to this, the Lightroom Library button has not been appearing in the right-hand menu since the most recent update. The Library has remained accesible from the pull-down Window menu though. Help!
Mac OS X v10.7.5; Lightroom 4.4; Latest versions of CS 6 Apps and Acrobat v10.1.7.

I fixed the hard drive recognition issue myself by rebooting. I'll probably try to re-run the Lightroom 4.4 installer to fix the missiing menu button. ANy ideas?

  • Rosetta applications won't launch

    Hi,
i have a rather weird problem with my OS X installation. When i try to launch a rosetta application (non-UB), the application doesn't launch. If I launch it from the Dock, the icon will just bounce a couple of times (1-2 seconds) and will then quit. If i launch it from anywhere else on the computer, nothing happens.
Any of you know what could cause this problem?
    Regards,
    Rune
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Good morning and thanks for your insight!
I ran the disk utility from the startup disk and it made repairs to the startup disk! After this, the problem still appears; when I launch some applications "nothing happens". A dialog box does not appear prompting to retry or posts an error.
It seems as part of the os was corrupted or a system preference file (os9) needs to be deleted.
Even if I reinstall these applications they don’t launch.

  • Updated iTunes to 9.2, now application won't launch - Error #13005

Help! I just updated my itunes to 9.2 and now it won't launch. An error window comes up and tells me it's due to an unknown error # 13005? I tried re-installing it to fix it but it still won't. Please help. I'm on the white 13' Macbook, running OS X 10.6.4. I have my itunes library in my external HD. Dying to get this fixed any help would be appreciated.

    try these user tips:
try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.
and, if you have flip4mac installed
I found that the TSLicense plugin was causing the problem.
    From the log:
    PlugIn Path: /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense
    PlugIn Identifier: net.telestream.license
This pIugin is installed with the Flip4Mac Windows Media Components. I solved the problem by uninstalling the WM Components via the uninstaller at /Applications/Flip4Mac/Flip4Mac WMV Uninstaller.pkg, after which iTunes opens successfully.
