Some apps "use cellular data" will not remain turned off

some apps "use cellular data" will not remain turned off
No matter how often I go to settings>cellular and turn off the apps, as soon as I close that screen they automatically turn back on.
I prefer not to delete the apps and reload them as I will loose the data in them when they are removed.
Thanks for the help.

First thing and easiest thing to try is a device reset:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Notifications use cellular data if it's turned off?

hello, i've had my iphone 4 a little over a month and i'm loving it!
i keep my cellular data turned off because i almost always am wi-fi connected. if i'm not, and i need to access the internet, i just turn on cellular data and then back off when i'm done.
i run the google app for mail/calendar since my email is gmail and i use facebook. i have them both set to notify me of alerts. my question is this....is it correct that i will only receive notifications if i have a wi-fi connection because my cellular data is off? what i don't want to happen is that my cellular data gets automatically turned on to receive those notifications.
thanks in advance for any replies!
    p.s....one more issue
is it true that i need cellular data turned on just to receive a picture in a text message? when i was with verizon, i received pics in a text message, it was not a smart phone and i had no data plan. it seems crazy to have to access the internet just to receive a picture in a text message!
    thanks again!

Two for two! Thanks very much. I used the arrangements screen to switch where OS X positioned the external monitor (i.e., I have mine on the left, it is on the right by default) but I didn't try to move the menu bar. Works great!
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Why would the settings app use cellular data

when i go into settings and can choose what apps use cellular data, 'settings' is a choice and in fact has used 99.4 kb of data. anyone know why? thanks.

trying one more time to get an answer for this.

  • Why can't i see "Find iPhone" App under cellular data so I can turn it on?

Why can't i see "Find iPhone" App under cellular data so I can turn it on?

    We have cell data plan.
I have other phones (4s) and can see "Find Phone" App under Cellular Data and can turn on/off.  But the problem phone does not have "Find IPhone" to be able toturn on/off.  I made sure app is running when i go to Cellular Data. I guess the question is why do Apps show up under Cellular Data to be able to turn on/off?  I thought if the app was made for Cellular Data it automatically showed up under Cellular Data.

  • If you allow an app to use cellular data will it ever use WiFi?

In the USE CELLULAR DATA FOR settings, you can authorize cell data for individual apps and services.  What I would hope is that when you are at home and operating on a WiFi network with cellular services turned off, that that would override these settings.  Does it actually work that way?

That setting is system-wide, not tied to a specific app. iOS priorizes Wi-Fi over Cellular if available, so you don't normally have to turn off Cellular data.
Unless you're at work, the Net Admins have draconian restrictions on LAN traffic and can't wait to get home and download the ****, in which case going Cellular gives you a workaround, so you turn off Wi-Fi instead...

  • I updated to 7.0.5.  I can't turn off apps from using cellular data. How to turn it off? Many thanks in advance!

I updated to 7.0.5 just now, now I can't turn off apps from using cellular data, I turn them off but  as soon as I back out they automatically turn back on.  How to turn it off? Many thanks in advance!

Yes i did that, but when i went back to my home screen all the applications that i've choose to not using data just automatically activate themselves.... ><

  • How can I control which apps use cellular data?

Sometimes I marvel at Apple's amazingness and sometimes I can't believe the holes.  Googling around I get the impression that iOS/iPhone provides no means for a user to take control of their data plan and set which apps are permitted to use cellular data and to track cellular data usage on an app by app basis.  Am I the only one that finds it unbelievable that an operating system designed for a cell phone that supports adding piles of sometimes sketchy 3rd party apps doesn't have this baked right in?  There seem to be a few apps try monitor overall aggregate data usage, but they are useless at getting to the root cause.
So, I hope I'm just missing it.  How do I figure out which broken, buggy, misconfigured app I stupidly installed is eating my data plan?  Maybe Android is a better choice for guys like me that are too busy to play whack a mole uninstalling and reinstalling apps for hours and days to try to solve such a tedious mystery.
    Thanks!

  • I've Lost cellular data network and emails after 5.0 upgrade.  "Could not activate cellular data network".  Have turned off and on, removed sim and also checked APN setting can anyone help...

I've lost cellular date network, all unopened important business emails and internet access on my Ipad 2 after 5.0 upgrade.  Received "Could not activate cellular date network"  - I have turned on and off, removed the sim and checked the APN is correct.  Can anyone help - struggling and need for my business.

I should point out that it worked when the iPhone was set back to factory settings, but when restored with the backup, data/internet no longer works again, and I get the "Could not activate cellular data network" error message yet again.

  • HT4972 i just purchased more storage for my iphone 4 and also deleted some apps and it still will not allow me to update to ios7

i just purchased more storage and deleted some apps and my iphone4 and it still will not allow me to update to ios7

The iCloud storage is meant for your backup, you do not get more space on iPhone.
You can by connecting to computer iTunes for update then you will not have space problem

  • I have received a replacement iphone 5, updated to ios 7.0.2 and my cellular data will not work.

is anyone else experiencing network issues after updating to IOS7? I have sprint, and two of my other roommates have sprint as well, and their 3G seems to be working fine( slowly, but functioning). Is there anythnig besides doing network resets and updating the profile by dialing ##873283#-- that I can do to remedy this issue? Certainly a phone of this caliber should have working data, when not on wifi as well.
Thanks for all the help guys!!

Hopefully you won't have to make a trip to the Apple Store.
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that does not help, restore the software >  iTunes: Restoring iOS software

  • IPhone Froze Will not even turn off

Ok after making it almost all the way through the 2.0 update I got an unknown error message. After that the iPhone dropped out of the iTunes menu. Now iTunes will not recognize my iPhone and I cannot even turn it off. It literally does nothing. I would restore it but I can't. Any have a similar issue or and adive>

I had a similar problem this morning. After using a couple of the 3rd party apps I locked the phone and that was it, frozen. It would not come on and was not detactable by windows or iTunes. I messed with it for about 2 hours and then out of a PURE FLUKE held down the two buttons hoping to get some type of reset or something. And voila, it worked. After about 10 seconds or so the grey apple in the middle of the screen appeared and the phone booted up.
What was wierd is that the phone got really hot during this time and when I finally got it booted the battery was nearly dead (10%) but when this started it had a fresh charge. So whatever happens during this time kills the battery fast.

  • IPhone 4s mobile data does not stay turned off.

I have an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.1.2.  When I go into the mobile settings and turn off the mobile data on my applications that I don't want to use my mobile data for, when I exit out of the settings and go back in, they have been turned back on.  I've tried a hard reset and doing a reset and then putting the back up back on the phone and none of it seems to help.  Its already cost me an additional $40 on my last phone bill because the settings didn't stay off and my songs auto downloaded even though I had the settings turned off.
If there is a fix other than having to reset and not use my backup I would love that, as nothing else I seem to try works.

Clean the iPhone charging port with a clean dry toothbrush.
If still problem, iPhone 4S has full Warranty, make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

  • My iPod Touch  will not completely turn off or connect to iTunes

I disconnected my iPod and did what you are supposed to do to turn it off.  The little thing that circles round and round before it turns off all the way will not stop.  It won't turn off no matter what I do.  iTunes says it cannot connect to my iPhone (it is an iPod Touch) and that there is some kind of error.  I went through all of the troubleshooter steps including uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.  What should I do?  Will it fix itself when the battery finally dies?

    - Have you tried resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Placing the iPod in recovery mode and then restoring the iPod via iTunes? For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    For the future. saying:
"I went through all of the troubleshooter steps"
Really provides us with no information since we do not know what steps you are referring to.

My Ipad is totally locked up and will not turn off.  What is the problemo?

Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off"
