Some apps went "generic" won't launch (bounce and disappear)

OK. So I installed Stuffit Expander and after doing that, several Intaller PKG files I downloaded would simply not function. I downloaded Security Spy software and when I clicked on the PKG file and a generic application icon would bounce in the dock for less than a second and then disappear. I tried with other downloaded software (like PithHelmet) and this happened again. I was able to View Package Contents on the SecuritySpy.pkg and found another installer file inside it, which I clicked and it installed the software fine.
Then, I looked at my Utilities folder and noticed that the programs like Keychain Access, Printer Setup Utility and (gasp) Disk Utilities had "generic" application icons instead of the usual ones. Clicking on these yielded the same "brief bouncing icon" issue and nothing happened -- except for Disk Utility, which gave me a dialogue that said, shockingly: "You cannot open the application "Disk Utility" because it may be damaged or incomplete."
I am very worried. Any thoughts people?

Try running fsck. Since you can't run disk utility
you will need to boot into darwin and do it manually.
Resart and hold down Cmd-S.
At the prompt type
fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2
pending on how your disk/system is setup you may need
to change disk0s2 to the correct value.
Type df at the prompt and use the disk listed as /
Type reboot.

Wow, that sounds dangerous. I'm a command-line wuss... I'm afraid of using it. What exactly do these commands do and could they mess up my system even more?

Install the v10.6.6 combo update available here. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.6. The combo includes fixes that were not included in the original update.

Restart your Mac and try the MAS again.
You can download apps directly from the MAS once you have it running.
Considering the TM backup took so long, make sure there's enough space on your Mac startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.*

Itunes won't open...bounces and disappears. Here is crash log.

When I attempt to click on itunes, it appears on the dock, bounces, and disappears. This also occurs with the "help" application. Can anyone help? Here is the crash log, but b/c it is so large it is pasted here with only the first ever crash and the most recent.

Looks like your webkit framwork is broken, or is now broken in relation to iTunes. Calls and classes may have changed since version 7.1, which is what you are using. Try updating to the latest version of iTunes and see if this fixes it.

Basic troubleshooting steps oultlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
You need to go through all steps in succession until your problem is solved. If going through ALL these steps fails to resolve your issue, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

I recently purchased a second hand new macbook air, although it was second hand to me the previous owner had never actually turned it on.

IPhoto won't launch! And yes I've updated everything.

iPhoto won't work all of a sudden this week. When I try to launch it, the rainbow wheel just hangs there forever, and the grey and white background of iPhoto (minus all the photos) hangs there uselessly behind it.
It worked just last week! I tried installing all updates on my Macbook, and it still won't launch.
It stopped working right after I allowed my Apple tv to update itelf actually.
Another thing that happened since I allowed my Apple tv and my Macbook to both install all updates is that my music is no longer available through Apple TV, even though I paid the annual fee to have my music available in the cloud at all times. It just says, "syncing purchased music: your purchased music is curretnly being synced to your Apple TV"...and has said so for a few days now.
I am guessing there is a problem with the updates somehow?
I've tried the suggestion I read about in some other threads about holding down the command and option keys while launching iphoto, but still no luck. Rainbow wheel of death and iPhoto stays on the grey/white blank screen.
Any advice is appreciated.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
Be sure to Hold the option and command keys down until the first aid screen comes up

I had deleted some Apps on my iPhone and iPad, but they are still in the Cloud. My First iPhone was a 2, my Second a 4S and now I use a 5. With the 2 I had used a different Apple-ID, but I put some Apps via Backup from one Apple-ID to another. As I get a Message by furtherly Backups, that some Apps are not can be saved because the Apple-ID is no longer on that PC registred, I had deleted this Apps to get they new for the actually Apple-ID. But I'm not shure, when I install them now, that they are working under the correct Apple-ID.
Any Ideas to solve the Probs ?

Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID

I downloaded itunes and some apps. i didn't sync my iphone and don't know how now.

I downloaded itunes on my computer and downloaded some apps. I wanted to put them on my iphone 3Gs and didn't sync my phone during download. I cannot find an option for it now.

10:6: Some apps make me OK the launch EVERY TIME.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and some of my apps are making me OK the launch every time, as if it's a new app just downloaded. Two examples are Transmit and Spell Catcher.
Anyone else seen this, or have a solution for it?

Yuck. That's inconvenient. Isn't there a way around it?
I just thought of something. I did things a little differently this time. I created an account just for the installations, then created my regular account to work in. Could it be that it thinks the apps are owned by the other account?
It's important to note that it doesn't happen with most apps, only a few. iWork & iLife are fine, Adobe apps are fine, so are others.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
One or more folders, each named ".OfflineCache", should open. In each one, there should be a file named "operations". Move each such file to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail and test.

PC: i-tunes won't launch, update and restore greyed out - updater freezes

Hi - Please excuse the system info below - that refers to my laptop but our sons shuffle ismarried to our PC.
I found my son's shuffle sitting on the hall dresser today and he informed me that it has not been working for some time. He's 8 years old but he's only had the shuffle since Christmas - I'm inclined to think he really hasn't been able to use it much.
First signs of a problem were flashing green and orange lights - no songs I guess. Battery shows steady green.
Downloaded and installed latest i-tunes update and i-pod updater. When the i-pod is connected to our PC (running XP) the front status light and the back battery lights both blink orange. Unfortunately, we do not have any 2.0 usb connections on the Dell but we've been able to successfully connect our other son's shuffle to the back port.
When the shuffle is connected i-tunes will not launch. If I launch i-tunes and then connect the shuffle, i-tunes does not recognize the i-pod.
With the updater lauched and then connecting the i-pod the updater freezes at 'initializing' and both update and restore buttons are greyed out.
I have reset the i-pod many times and browsed the support discussions and articles - it seems I may need to remove the updater but I have not found instructions for the process appropriate to a PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - even if its just to say that we should bring it in for service. UGH - but where is the darned receipt?

By the way - I uninstalled and reinstalled both i-tunes and i-pod updater as per Apple instructions for PC. At least this time the updater informed me as to what it updates but it is not even initializing now - it just keeps telling me to "plug in an i-pod to update it".
i-tunes still will not launch until I remove the shuffle from the usb.
I know that the usb is working (tried several other ports anyway) since windows pops up with a balloon to say that the device could perform faster on a 2.0 usb...
I've been out of the loop for awhile now on the boards - is this some sort of update bug?

Right after upgrading to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro, some websites on Firefox won't load videos and some look like html (or something like that).

I've used Firefox for a while on my MacBook Pro (about 1.5 years old) and it's worked great. Should be fully updated too. Immediately after I upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion, some websites wouldn't load correctly (looked like html or something). Also some websites like YouTube show video fine, but then at least one other website doesn't show the video window at all, much less play it. Safari doesn't have that problem. Any ideas?

Cannot install Snow Leopard, Icon just bounces and disappears

So so complicated to Use a Mac, absolutely the opposite of user friendly after coming from a PC: everything is hidden on Macs!
So I want to install Snow Leopard (I currently run Leopard - got the computer 2nd hand)
I have a new copy of Snow Leopard in a box with the leopard on the front.
The Adobe user guide opens fine from the disc itself so the disc works.
I double click on the install Mac os x with the blue arrow pointing down at the top.
IT bounces 3 or 4 times in the bar at the bottom. Then nothing else happens
Don't understand this. It won't even tell me what's going wrong.
