Some artists names missing after power fluctuation

hi, i was wondering if you guys encountered the same problem on the subject. i was updating manually some songs on my ipod when the power fluctuated thus shutting down the PC and disconnecting my iPod abruptly. when i reconnected, all artists are shown on itunes as if nothing happened. when finished updating and disconnected my iPod, i happen to notice that some artists are no longer on the list when i browse them. however when i look for their songs in tne song list, its there as well as their albums. from then on when i update new artists into my iPod it no longer adds up to the artists list. do you have any idea how i can i correct this error without restoring my iPod? i have reset few times but its no use. thanks to your inputs.

well the main reason why i don't consider restoring is that i believe it erases all what is on the iPod. the hardwork of importing songs, editing, placing an artwork, etc... will take weeks to finish. i don't have any other drive to back-up. i'd like my library polished squeaky clean without incorrect information such as misspelled words. anyway i can bear with this little error that it has rather than to start rebuilding a library. i hope i don't encounter other errors though. thanks for your reply.

  • Artist names missing in browse, iTunes for Windows 7.1.1

Certain artist names are missing from the browse window. The songs are there in the library, but the artist's name is not displayed. Some are copied off my CDs, others purchased. I looked at the xml file, and could not see any obvious difference between songs where the artist is displayed and ones where it is not. Has anyone else had this problem? It there a way to fix it? I've had this problem since 7.0 or 7.1
    Thanks...
      Windows XP

In Itunes, highlight and right click on the 1st song by the artist. Then go to 'Get Info'. uncheck the 'part of a compilation' box. Then simply click on the 'next' box, and apply the uncheck change to each song by the artist. Then re-sync your Ipod, and the artist name will magically appear in your browse section!

  • Sorting - some artists go missing on my iPod

I have several artists who go under a variety of different names. Bobby Bland is one - sometimes he's known as Bobby 'Blue' Bland, or Bobby "Blue" Bland, or just plain Bobby Bland. All the same guy, and in the 'Sorting' column I've told iTunes to sort them all as 'Bland Bobby'. This works fine in iTunes, but not with my iPod, which cannot see Bobby "Blue" Bland at all. The music IS there, if I can be bothered to look for the album title, but does NOT appear in the albums listed under Bobby Bland. Exactly the same thing happened with Gil Scott-Heron, who sometimes worked with Brian Jackson. If I put Gil -Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson in the sorting info iPod lost this artist. The only way round this seemed to be to rename all the GSH + BJ albums as Gil Scott-Heron and leave out Brian Jackson altogether. Much the same applies to BB King, who is sometimes B.B. King, or B. B. King....
This issue needs to be addressed, Apple!

I'm not sure how the classical musical is tagged, but one of these things might work:
-- Select all of the Tchaikovsky tracks, do Get Info and enter the word Tchaikovsky in the Comment window. Then sort your list by the Comment window.
-- Create a Smart Playlist with the rule that Comment is (or includes) Tchaikovsky. Now you've isolated all Tchaikovsky tracks together.
--Another option would be to change the tags themselves, perhaps by pasting the word Tchaikovsky just in front of the Artist name (which, in this case, I would assume is the orchestra performing the work).
It's a bit of work, but until iTunes gets some feature updates, these are some workarounds that classical music lovers might use to achieve their desired results. If you haven't already, submit your thoughts to Apple Feedback about iTunes and let them know how the application is lacking in features for classical music. I'm sure they couldn't anticipate every user scenario when creating the program, and the more users who let them know, the more likely something will change.
Hope one my suggestions helps you out in the meantime.

  • Some iPhoto pictures missing after time machine recovery, were there errors reported during backup that I missed?

Hello. I used time machine/time capsule to automatically back up my sytem over the last 3 years and I used the backups to recover my system to a new hard drive when the original drive began to fail. After recovery, I noticed there are missing photos in iPhoto.
I'm curios where I should look to see why they weren't backed up, and why it wasn't obvious to me at the time that they weren't backed up.
Does time machine explicitly call out issues when it can't back up a file or does it just squirrel a message away in the system log?
I'd like to know because I'd like avoid this issue going forward.
    Full disclosure & History -
The hard drive on my late 2009 27" iMac was exhibiting issues and started to go bad. No problem I thought, I'll get a new one and recover the system from my time capsule.
The full recovery was initiated from the OS install media. Upon recovery, the system wouldn't boot. After booting from the OS install media and reinstalling the OS on top of the recovered data the system booted and seemed to retain almost everything. This may not be the best way to recover but it seemed to work.
    I additionally had to:
    repatch the OS
    reinstall iWork
relicense MS Office (otherwise office seemed to be intact)
When I started looking through my iPhoto libraries, there were some events with no pictures (mostly the newer events). I couldn't find the pictures on the time capsule either so I'm curios if there was anyway I could have known that backups weren't completing successfully. I had run a time machine incremental backup before pulling out the old hard drive and it seemed to complete successfully so I'm at a loss. I can understand that as the hard drive began to fail, there may have been issues backing up the data, but I somehow missed it if/when the problems were reported.
Should I go through the old system logs that were backed up on the time capsule and look for backupd messages/errors? Going forward, how do I know if there are backup issues?
It took me a couple weeks to realize the drive was failing. I had noticed that the system performance was getting bad, and the system would occassionally hang. It would come back OK after a restart. I thought it was because the filesystem was getting close to full (30GB left on a 1 TB drive) so I was chasing down cleaning up some data to make more room. There were suggestions in other forums to try and keep the filesystem 10% free.
While moving data from the internal drive to a new external drive (to free up space) the system would hang. I eventually found a couple disk0 errors in the kernel log and I actually witnessed disk0 disappear while running an iostat. I'm thinking it took me too long to know the disk was going bad, and so the pictures I imported over the last 3-4 weeks may be gone.
I still have the original drive so I'll see if anything else can be salvaged from it.
    Looking for some suggestions on
    1) the ability to know if time machine backups are successful and are in sync with my system
    2) the ability to know when there are hardware issues that I should be aware of
If you got to this point, thanks for taking the time to read through all this.
    Regards,
    -mike

    Hi Mike,
I just saw this post and saw no one has responded.  You might have figured out but in case, I wanted to let you know what I found out.  I had the same problem.  Hard drive failure, they installed a new one and my iPhoto pictures were missing.  I couldn't find them on Time Machine either which baffled (and frustrated) me b/c I just backed up my drive and I was missing pictures from over a year ago.
I found this article and it allowed me to at least find my pictures...so they weren't lost after all.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16029742#16029742
As for why they aren't showing up in iPhoto or Time Machine, the lady at the Mac store said it is probably an OS conflict.  Which makes sense since I can see the actual pictures in the iPhoto content file (per the article mentioned above).  However, I didn't have my computer with me at the store to have a Genius person help me resolve the conflict.
BUT, if you can find the pictures, then maybe you can reimport them into iPhoto?  Just a thought.
    Good luck!

  • Artist artwork missing after restoring phone

I'm using an iPhone 5s running the most recent version of iOS.
Last night I restored my phone from a backup. When I view music on my phone, the "Artists" artwork is mostly missing. A few artists have the photo that downloads from iTunes, others have one of the album covers, but for the most part they are all blank.
It took quite awhile for the album artwork to load, but as I scrolled through the list they all filled in (I have a really large library, over 20,000 songs).
But for some reason, the Artist artwork seems to be stuck with just a few inconsistent and random ones filled int.
    Any advice?

It's a pre-installed app and therefore cannot be deleted so you may have inadvertently moved it onto a screen or into a folder, utilities seems to be the common folder they disappear into.  Check all screens and folders and do a search in Spotlight, it will tell you if the app it still on your iPhone but unfortunately not where it is. If you find it on one or your screens or in a folder, press the icon until it wiggles and then drag it back to where you want it.  Alternatively you can reset your home screen in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

  • Some export presets missing after Upgrade to LR5

I recently upgraded from LR 3.6 to LR 5.6 (Windows 7)
Upon opening LR 5.6, I noticed that while my catalog has successfully migrated, SOME of my customized export presets are missing. I see all of them in the C:User/Appdata/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom folder, but only some appear as options in LR5. (They all appear in LR 3).
    How do I restore these?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
    >> Is it necessary to the developers to run the export/import process after an upgrade or is the a script in the install process that should take care of this.
You shouldn’t run any export/import. All your application should be in place.
You should check the patch installation log for any reported errors. The file is called apxpatch.log, and it should be found in the directory where you unzipped the patch distribution file.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • JNDI names missing after deployement of .ear files

I am trying to take an app that is currently in 1 ear file and split it into 2
ear files for 2 weblogic server instances. When I split the ear and deploy, deployment
seems to work fine but JNDI names never show up. When I deploy as one ear, all
JNDI names show up fine. The jars and wars inside the ears are exactly the same
build artifacts for either configuration. The original application.xml from 1
ear is split into 2 ears appropriately.
    Any ideas?

Try completely closing out of iBooks: from the Home screen double tap the Home button, once the multitask bar appears swipe up on the iBooks icon to close out of iBooks. Now restart the iPad and see if this might help resolve the issue.
Alternatively instead of a restart you could perform a Reset once you close iBooks.
Reset: hold down the Home and Sleep/Wake button at the same time for ~10sec, ignore the Slide to Power Off, the iPad will then Reset, Note: No data is lost during a Reset.

  • Could anyone tell me why some artists are missing from my Artists list?

    Dell Dimension 3000   Windows XP

I've had that problem before. Check your compilations. If any of the songs are part of a compilation, they might not show up. Then again, my iPod went all crazy one night and listed even the ones that were in compilations as the single artist, but then went back to not displaying all of them the next day. I'd say check to see if any of the songs are part of compilations and if you're really wanting to just display that artist, Get Info on those songs and select NO for making them part of a compilation. Hope it works out for you.

  • HT4528 I have an iphone 3. The screen is cracked (some is even missing),the power button is dead, the headphone jack is almost broken & it has been glitching. I know it will die soon because its 4 years old and overused. How should i/can i back up my phot

this phone is my life. i share an itunes account with my mom and she deletes every photo i put in photo stream to keep for my new phone or ipod. so how should i back up my photots?

First things first if your iPhone cannot be recognised by your computer then you wont be able to get those photos off the iPhone.
In the event that it can be recognised you could import the photos to your PC/Mac. Follow the article below to do this:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices
Or you could do a back up on iTunes of the iPhone which would save the photos in your camera roll. The article below will guide you on how to do this:

  • Artists name on ipod comes up multiple times.

Some artists names comes up multiple times? Why is that? And how do you stop it from happening? And yes they are all spelled correctly....

The names may be spelt correctly but even an extra space that you might not notice can make a difference. I have found instances where the spacebar has created extra stop at the end of the line. The quickest way to eliminate these discrepancies is to sort your iTunes library by artist to bring your tracks together. Click on the first track by your artist, hold down the shift key and click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes and then the Info tab. Overtype the artist name then click ok and this will ensure the whole selection is identical. Once you've done this connect your iPod, if you are updating automatically it will pick up the changes. If you are updating manually follow the instructions above with the iPod connected and carry out the changes directly on the iPod's song list.

  • Artist's names are displayed incorrectly and some artists don't even show up at all on my iPhone 4S.

I was just doing some housekeeping in my iTunes library and I noticed that some of the artists were not showing up on my iPhone 4S. Here's an example. I like Wu-Tang. Wu-Tang has a million songs that feature a million different artists, so I just want all the songs to show up on my iPhone as "Wu-Tang" under artist. So I went into my iTunes library and painstakingly changed all of the artists names to simply "Wu-Tang". Only problems is, those songs are not showing up under Artists. I can find them when I look under Songs, but that's really annoying.
I'm having the same problem with other artists as well. Pearl Jam showing as Pearl J am, etc. It's driving me crazy.
So I guess what my question boils down to is this: after I re-name an Artist in iTunes, how can I get it to successfully show up on my iPhone? I should also mention that after every single time that I renamed an artist in iTunes, I got the message at the top that says "Updating files on iPhone", which leads me to believe that the change was successful, but when I looked it up on my iPhone, it wasn't. HELP! Thanks.

You may have updated those info on iTunes but not synced over to your iPhone.  Just double check from the MUSIC tab that the SYNC MUSIC box is checked.

  • Artist Names not Displaying after upgrade to 10.1.0.56

I just upgraded to iTunes 10.1.0.56. After the upgrade, about half of my artist names are not appearing. When I click, "Get Info" it can find the artist and some.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts on what to try next?
    Thanks

  • Missing Artist names in iPod under lookup but the song is there

I have all the approx 7,000 tunes on my LapTop that sync's into my iPod OK but there are some missing "Artist" names in my iPod when I lookup by Artist but the song is there in song lookup and it has the Artist name it the display.
Some answers to some questions, my helper's maybe asking themselves are............
I've loaded the songs into iTunes from the web as well as via CD's online with "Grace Notes" inputting song info also with me off line loading in songs from my internal and external hard drive. I have converted all songs that weren't under the option (create an ACC Version). My understanding this is this to create a .mp3 file within the iTunes Music Library Folder. I would then delete the originally song
Any help or questions for me so far?
    Befuddled......

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a song info window, and by selecting "options" you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.

  • After Updating iBook on my ipad , Some PDF  files missed . how should restore them

After Updating iBook on my ipad , Some PDF  files missed . how should restore them?

Your posted question is the key to your answer - sync them back to the iPad. You can still connect the iPad to your PC, launch iTunes, select your iPad name from the left side under devices - then go to the apps tab in iTunes and select all of the apps to sync again.
Make sure that the Sync Apps heading is selected as well. If you make changes to the app configuration, click on Apply in the lower right corner of the iTunes window.

  • Artists names are missing

Had a 30 G iPod and iTunes installed on my computer. All is well. Got a new 80 G iPod as a gift and synched iTunes stuff already in my computer to it (mostly audio). PROBLEM: In the menu, alot of the artists names are missing but all af the songs can be found in the songs menu. QUESTION: How do I get the artist names to be listed in the menu?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
