Some artists not in browser

I'm running an Intel iMac, full current software. I transferred most of the music library from an older iMac. Some of the artists won't show up in the artist list in browse. I can search to find the artist, but even then, it won't show the artist in the browse list, but will in the main list. I'm going to try to attach an image to illustrate.
Notice that even with an artist selected in the main field, it show 0 artists in the browse window. If I scrolled all the way to the bottom of my artist list, Zander Schloss would not be there.
Any help?

I don't know exactly, why, but it has to do with the fact that you have the 'part of a compilation' box checked for that album. I have several soundtracks, some with the box checked and some not. Those without the box checked show up as artists in the artists column. Those with it checked don't.

I have a problem where certain artists that are on my ipod don't appear in the artist category but when i go to a different category, like, album, the music is there. I checked the info settings in iTunes but everything looks fine on that end.

When you have artists who only appear on compilations these are normally omitted from the Artist menu on the iPod. However if you disable both of the following menu items on your iPod:
*Settings > Main Menu > Compilations*
*Settings > Music Menu > Compilations*
then they will appear. In iTunes the same change is made via:
*Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Group compilations when browsing*, turn off to reveal all artists in the browser.

Some artists not displaying in iTunes browser but load fine under search

I'm having an odd problem with iTunes that has been digging under my skin. Some of my Artists aren't displaying under the Artists pane in the browser. An example of this is my Eazy-E collection. If I serac for Eazy-E all of the songs display and the Eazy-E field is filled out for Artist. Yet under found artists it displays 0 and under found albums it displays 1 which is the number of albums I have for that artist.
It even does this for songs I've recently purchased from the iTunes music store. I purchased some Pearl Jam and it doesn't display in the browser, I have to do a search to load the songs. I've tried everything, including rebuilding my iTunes library. What can I do I'm desperate?

The albums are listed under Compilations.

The albums show up and play OK, but when I look for the artist in the artist list they are not there.
Should I empty my iPod and reload everything onto it?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is incorrectly marked as part of a compilation (and you have Compilations enabled on the iPod) or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. If you are using iTunes 8, in the the multiple items info box the compilations setting is in the "Options" tab. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if the tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. Some artists missing from 'browser'

I've recently been finding that several artists are not appearing in my 'browser' display under Artist. If I search for them, I can find them in the search results. But in my list of Artists, they simply do not appear, even though the tag has the artist clearly marked.
And these are all albums bought from the iTunes music store. I try changing the Artist name slightly, but it still will not appear.
For instance, Night Ranger, Enya, David Bowie, none of these people, although bought right from iTunes will appear in the browser list, and nothing I can do will make them there. But I can search for them, and find them easily enough.
Anyone seen that before? Anyone have any ideas for a fix?

Wow, interesting, thanks! They were marked as part of a compilation, and unchecking that somehow made them appear. But the weird thing is, I definitely have other stuff in my library as compilation, but the artists still appear.

Solution for some artists not showing under "Artists"

If you go to settings and turn compilations "off" all artists will show under artists listing. Assuming that title, artists, and album info is filled in.

You have to check off the box saying "part of compilation at the bottom of the get info tab on the song.

Some artists don't qappear in browser window for a playlist

I've been struggling to find a way to browse a large library of classical music. The browser window is a great idea but I can't find a way to add a browser window pane for the Composer tag. So I selected all the tracks with composer=beethoven and made a playlist.
I notice that some artists for tracks in the playlist don't appear in the Artist browser pane. (For example, Szell/ Cleveland Orchestra.) I don't know how many Artist names are missing from the Browser's Artist but there are at least 2 missing.
I can see the Artist name "Szell..." in the track listings for the playlist. If I'm browsing the library, I see "Szell ..." in the Browser window Artist pane. I just don't see "Szell ..." in the Artist Pane of the browser window for the Beethoven Playlist.
I tried deleting the Beethoven playlist and re-creating it. I get the same problem again.
I'm using iTunes for Windows v 4.7.1.30. I haven't upgraded to the latest iTunes for Windows because I see reports of problems after the upgrade.

My quess on weather or not an artist's name appears
depends on the nature and quality of the CD. On my CDs
of Beethoven symphonies or piano concertos Beethoven's name
will appear.
As I said in my first message, the artist name appears in the track listing. I have edited the tags to show the correct composer ("Beethoven" in this case) and to show the soloist then conductor and then the orchestra in the artist tag. ("Szell/ Cleveland orchestra" in this case.)
I see the "Szell..." in the artist field for the tracks for the symphonies conducted by Szee in my library. When I select Library in the source list, I see "Szell..." in the Artist Browser list. However, when I select the Beethoven playlist, I don't see "Szell ..." in the Artist Browser list. I see the tracks listed and the Artist field says "Szell ..." as expected.
This isn't a problem with the information in the CDDB database iTunes uses to get the tag values it assigns to tracks from a CD. I've edited the tags to fit my conventions.

I understand that you are having issues with your music displaying correctly. This may be an issues with the metadata stored within that song, and iTunes interpretation of that info.

When I go to Music Artist, I do not find some Artists, what's the prob?

There are some Artists that do not show, the weird thing is that they used to show up. Also some songs do not show when you look in the Artist, but if you make a searh per song (Music >> Song) all songs are there.

It could also be that the songs are marked as being part of a compilation. If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Many plugin vendors haven't updated their plugins to work with x64, or you have to download a special x64 version (Flash and Java for example). Which plugins is it that you are having problems with?

Some artists/albums not streaming for weeks... Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Arckanum, Ulver etc.

I have an issue regarding the availability of some albums and artists on Spotify. I use the desktop client on Mac OS X Yosemite.I have found that there are certain albums by the above mentioned artists that are listed on Spotify but that I am not able to stream. The albums and songs are not in grey, in Ulver's Kveldssanger you can listen to some songs, to some songs not. If you click on the song, the bar at the bottom just shows not minutes or seconds and the songs do not start. Any ideas?

Some PDFs not working in Preview. I installed adobe reader and then deleted it because the software was aweful and PDFs have been haveing issues ever since. I can open up PDFs created on my Mac in preview just fine...
But when I try and open a PDF created on a windows computer it says:

I am not sure why where the PDF was created would make a difference but couldnt help but notice that was the difference between the PDF files that work and the ones that give that message. I can view the PDFs on a windows computer just fine and never had issues untill adobe, it seems to have messed up PDFs on my Mac and I am so frustrated with them. I have searched my computer for any remaining adobe files, deleted them and restarted my computer but I am still getting this message.

Uninstall Adobe Reader's plug-in.
Remove the following two files from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/:
AdobePDFViewer.plugin
AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
Open Safari Preferences > Extensions. Do you see AdobePDFViewer? If yes. disable.
Log out/in and test.

It's possible that the pages you are attempting to open simply won't work with that old web browser.
If you're using Mac OS X Tiger, update to the latest version, which is 10.4.11. (You might be using that already. Your profile says you're running 10.4.1, but I bet that's just a typo.)
Then get the latest version of Safari that will run on Tiger. (And... you have that already: 4.1.3.)
You might try a more modern browser designed specifically for your current OS. That would be TenFourFox.

IWeb pages reverting to older version- not a browser issue, deleting prefs/caches no help

Hi everyone, forgive me if this is a newb question but I've scoured the internet for answers and all of them I've already tried with no luck. I'm using iWeb and encountering a problem that has me completely stumped. I'm trying to publish changes to my site, (I do not use mobileme, I publish to disk and upload files via Fetch) and for some reason something is changing my html files when I try to upload them. The html files are correct on my hard drive when I publish them, and yet when I upload them, they revert to the older version. This is not a browser issue, as I've cleared my cache, refreshed and tried using Safari, Firefox and Chrome with no luck. I've also tried 're-setting' iWeb by deleting iWeb preferences/cache, and tried moving the domain file from application support, creating a new website, deleting it and then re-loading the old site. Nothing, still the old site. It's new in iWeb, new when I open the html files on my drive, and old as soon as I upload.
I seem to remember having this problem before, and what I found was iWeb's cache kept replacing my new pages with the old ones every time I wanted to upload them. 'Re-setting' iWeb did the trick then, but it's not doing it now. Any ideas on what is going on? It's a little disconcerting seeing a file correct on the disk and then change itself, while uploading, into an incorrect version.

If you make changes to a page there are files in the Scripts folder that get updated and must be uploaded also. Depending on what you're using to up load the files it can be setup to upload just those new or modified files.
Cyberduck is a free FTP client that works very well and if used in conjunction with this tutorial will upload only those new or modified files: #2 - Uploading only those new or newly edited and published files when using a 3rd party FTP client
