Some characters in UID break message delivery

this is more a FYI rather than a question.
We have a Netscape messaging fetching the userbase from a JES Directory Server. Multiple email domains are hosted there.
In the past, realms were implemented appending !realm to the UID, so that uid uniqueness would be granted across the whole user tree. So, some communities have logins as:
me!comm1
me!comm2
you!comm2
I am now testing the migration to JES Messaging 6 (schema 1), slowly adding new domains to the test platform.
I have been struggling for one day after a domain that would not accept mail, even if all the objectclasses and attributes were properly set (another working domain was taken as reference).
With a deep debug run ( imsimta test -rewrite -debug [email protected] ) I found out that JES Messaging 6 (2004Q2) does not accept mail for addresses whose corresponding UID attribute contains:

@ (at)
# (pound)
* (star)
$ (dollar sign)
% (percent)
The debug returns these lines before bailing out:
09:57:18.12: Domain is active
09:57:18.12: Mail domain is active
09:57:18.12: Mail user status = active
09:57:18.12: User is active
09:57:18.12: User UID user!realm found.
09:57:18.12: UID contains illegal character(s)
I have not found any mention in the messaging documentation about allowed chars in the uid attribute, which is defined as "Directory String" and thus should accept those chars. See RFC2252, paragraph 6.10 for details.
This Messaging requirement (?) breaks compatibility with existing trees and standard LDAP schema.
Would a tech support call produce a patch?

Too bad programmers were too lazy to escape those characters allowing in the UID field all the chars allowed by "uid" attribute syntax.
As a side note, on Solaaris9 2004Q2 works fine if the support for "!" is added.

I am having a similar problem on my machine. I was using Word 2008 and I created a PDF inside Word.
I am opening the file on the system itself and I am running Windows 8.1. I am using Version 11 of Reader.
When the PDF I created (my resume) attempts to open, it says: cannot find or create the file Times, Bold. Some characters may not display or print correctly.
However, the entire Reader keeps freezing and will not allow me to open or test print the document. Also, it is not displaying any of the Bold Times New Roman Print. Can you please help? Thanks.

Try sending them via the Messages app as opposed to E-mail.
E-mail shouldn't normally be a problem, but Messages will do as a soloution.
To do so:
. You need iOS 5
1. Go to your Photo Gallery
2. Open up the album/ images you want to send
3. Press the share button (top right hand corner)
4. Select 'Send as Message' (not e- mail)
5. Select your friends Apple ID from your address book for his iPad
6. Voila!
- it's something along those lines...... my iPad is downstairs atm, but the actual way of doing it will be similar...... !

Error message is :
"Cannot extract the embedded font 'F2'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
Many pdf documents display this error with Adobe Reader 8.1.0. We have errors for embedded fonts 'F0','F3','F7' and so on.
It looks like a Adobe Reader bug because :
- All PDF files can be opened with Acrobat Reader 5.0.5, 6.x and 7.x, can't be opened with 8.1.0 version.
- the 8.1.1 update removes only the bug for 'F0' error message (issue #1572280).
The solution :
- to publish a 8.1.2 update to fix this important bug
- is there a registry parameter or tool option to disable the checking added in 8.x version of Adobe Reader ? The 8.x version catches more errors to be compliant with Adobe specification but Adobe reader must be
compliant with all documents generated by third party products.
This Adobe Reader bug applies to Windows Vista, XP Pro SP2, 2000.

Just to let you know, for anyone else with this problem. I had this problem occur on a MAC when you tried to do save to PDF in excel. This was all happening at the point of generation of the PDF in my case.
The fix was to delete ALL the microsoft preferences, but perahps only the font cache needed to be deleted.
I deleted the following areas from the local users userprofile on the mac. On windows, I would probably log in as a differnet user to try to see if the problem just exsists for one particular user.
Here are the sections I deleted:
Library/caches/metadata/Microsoft*
Username/library/preferences/com.microsoft* ( and anyhting with microsoft in it)
I did leave the entourage settings though.

I am currently using Adobe Reader version 9.1.3. When I open certain files, it displays the following message, "Cannot extract the embeded font 'KDGXKF+TTF5BC9A0t00'.Some characters may not display or print correctly". Some fonts are actually missing and will not display when printing. I have tried updating adobe but the problem still persists. Under file properites, the following font TTF5BC9A0t00 is recognised by Adobe as true type and custom encoding. Anyone has any suggestions for fix??

BUT, does it say "embedded" or "embedded subset" next to the font name. If not, the font isn't included in the file and if you don't have it, it can't display or print it.
The file creator will need to embed the fonts properly although "some" fonts don't allow embedding. This could be one of them.

NSMutableString getCString misbehaves, does not show some characters

I have written a small tool for Cocoa / MacOSX 10.5 and I am trying to save a text to a file, but some characters such as # appear as hex 0x0.

Btw, I am a newb at Mac programming, but I come from a solid Windows programming background, but please don't hold that against me :P.

The NSString length method doesn't count a terminator; i.e. it's analogous to strlen(), so if you convert an ASCII C string to a NSString object, the return from [results length] will be the same as strlen(source). I'm not sure there wasn't something else going on at your end, since this length error only strips the trailing char from the source string. In any case, the following code should work for you:

Guarranteed Message Delivery with OSB 11g

Hi,
I'm currently working on a scenario with OSB that requires me to set up guaranteed message delivery. The business scenario is that on one end I have a flat file polling service and I have to transform this data into XML and store it to DB. Concisely, this is the scenario: Flat File -> Proxy -> Business -> JMS Queue -> Proxy -> Business -> DB. The entire process works fine till the time I turn the DB off. In that case, I get a load of erro in the log, and the message in the Queue sits there indefinitely, Even after the DB has been restarted. The only way the message gets stored into DB is by performing a complete server restart, which, needless to say is not acceptable. Stopping and starting the proxy and business services do not work, either.
I'm using an XA data source for the DB connection pool and the default XA Connection Factory for OSB JMS transport. After delivery failure the message sits in the queue with "receiving transaction" state string. On inspection of the server logs I found that WebLogic can't connect with the datasource even when the database is completely restarted. It requires a server restart for the connection pool to work properly again.
Could anybody please provide some insight as to what I'm doing wrong?

Jms:///CF/QName works when we OSB clusterOSB JMS transport is implemented as Weblogic MDB's under the hood. From weblogic 9x onwards , mdbs bind to co-hosted destinations by default.
So if you have a distributed destination and mdb's are deployed to the same cluster ( happens when jms proxy service is deployed to the cluster) , then it is guaranteed behaviour that the mdb on ms1 binds to dd member on ms1 and mdb on ms2 binds to dd member on ms2. So you will end up seeing 16 consumers ( by default, if you have not configured any work manager to restrict concurrent threads) on each of the dd member.
we have both BPEL and OSB cluster so when BPEL posting a message how to avoid the racing condition in OSB . as both will look for same QUEUE..Make sure the connection factory used by bpel has load balancing turned on and server affinity turned off. This will ensure a pretty load balanced distribution of the messages to the dd members in the cluster which will be then processed by the proxy service hosted on the same managed server instance.

How to differ large message delivery

I would like to differ large message delivery during night. For instance message size above 4 Mo be processed at midnight to avoid network saturation.
I could not find any answers in documentation. I have got an idea to retarget messages over 4Mo with alternatechannel keyword. But how to hold channel processing until the night ?

Sorry solution was in documentation, my question is how to "delay" a message delivery !
You can delay a big mail by retargetting messages in a special channel and then stop this channel until off-hours time.

Some characters could not be mapped using ISO-88559-1

I'm creating a Flash/Flex app which will load multilingual xml for all the text displayed. I tried using this example:

"...some characters could not be mapped using ISO-88559-1..."
when I pasted the example xml into Flex and tried to save it. I've searched for another tutorial on creating multilingual content and using it in xml. The plan is to contract the translations to be delivered in xml. Any suggestions?

You can have many libraries with many albums and files within them. Each library is independent, so if you upload a file to two libraries then you two copies. If you put a photo from a library in albums that live within that library, then there is only one copy in the library that each album has access to so it will show up when you view the album. The font 'Didot' contains an invalid encoding. Some characters may not display.

I am receiving this message:
"The font 'Didot' contains an invalid encoding. Some characters may not display."
The message appears only in one form, not others. It appears only once, the first time I click on the form after opening it, then not again until I reopen the form.
The font is not embedded in the form and does not exist on my computer. The font is not employed in any field in the form or in its static elements.
Would appreciate any help in getting rid of this very annoying message.

Run FontBook and verify the Font. If defective open your System Install CD open Fonts. Drag this font to Desktop.
If you can Remove the defective font by draging to Trash (if system font you'll have to give username and Password) .
Then drag the copy on Finder in same folder dective was removed from
THen Restart Computer with shift key down. Hold down until a screen comes up where you must sign in. wait until screen fully loads. Now try the PDF. If works shut down Acrobat (or Reader) and the restart computer normally.

Reliable message delivery

Hi,
I am trying to configure Realiable Message Delivery in a Composite Application in OpenESB.
In CASA editor I do "Clone WSDL Port to edit" and then I change Server and Client configuration to enable "Realiable Message Delivery".
My configuration is the following:
- Server configuration
     I've enabled "Reliable message delivery"
- Client configuration
     RM Resend Interval (ms) : 2000
     RM Close Timeout (ms): 0
     RM ACK Request Interval (ms): 200
But when a failure occurs it does not try to resend the message.
Must I configure anything else?

OSB has reliable messaging as one of the transport options.
You can great some proxies to manage this reliability.
