Some clients have suddenly stopped reporting

We're experiencing an issue lately with handful of machines that had the SCCM client properly installed and were able to receive policies, software deployments, etc. But now when I look at them in the console the Client column shows No, yet going into the
properties of the computer information is still being collected (last logon timestamp is recent). When I look at the log files from one of these machines, the only one I can find with an error is ClientIDManagerStartup.log:
Failed to open to WMI namespace '\\.\root\ccmvdi' (8007045b).
A client reinstall push initiated from the console will complete without error, but will not fix the issue. The only method I've found to fix these machines is to manually run ccmclean.exe to completely remove the client, then reinstall it. This is not an
ideal fix however as I need physical or remote access to each machine. I'd like to figure out what is causing these clients to stop functioning in the first place so I can fix the root cause.

Is the heartbeat agent date up to date on the Clients resource record?
Have you looked at client log files to see if the agent has an issue reporting to the MP at any point in time?

Where would I find the heartbeat agent date? When I open ClientIDManagerStartup.log on one of the affected clients, this is what is repeated indefinitely:

LocationServices.log also shows the machine correctly contacting the primary site server (which is also the MP). The only log that is overtly complaining about something is execmgr.log:
Software Distribution site settings (CCM_SoftwareDistributionClientConfig) policy does not yet exist on the client.
If the client is not yet registered, this is expected behavior.
Unless there are other log files that I should be looking at, I don't know where to go from here. I don't know what is causing these machines to stop receiving policies, and trying to connect to each one when they're spread around North America to manually
clean the machine and re-run the client setup is pretty much an impossibility.

Hi, I am ready to tear my hair out here. My WSUS Server is running version 3.0 SP2 (Server Version 3.2.7600.274. I have installed the following KB's on the server (KB2720211, KB2734608 and KB29308066). Around 60% of my clients have a status of not yet reported.
The clients are on client version 7.6.7600.320. I am attaching some of the windowsupdate.log details from one of the clients which has not yet reported. Have I missed something obvious here?

  • Some third Party Applications have suddenly stopped working

My Onyx, ClamXav. Tiger Cache Cleaner and Speed Download have suddenly stopped opening when I click the application. Eudora, Firefox, NeoOffice, Quicken and MT Newswatcher still function normally. I can't download anything, probably because Speed Download is set to perform that function but isn't working.
The only other unusual sign is that the Sleep function is also taking 10-15 sections to kick in when I click it from the pull down menu. Any idea what's happening?

    John, thanks for that info.
    1. Does Safari actually crash?
If so, could you copy & paste the most recent report
    for us here?
As indicated, I deleted Safari 3 without using the uninstall app; as a result even Safari 2 is not in my apps folder. And in fact when attempting to deal with this problem I found and deleted everything on the computer with "Safari" in the title. And don't ask me to reinstall Safari 2 from the Options package on my install disk; I've already tried that and the Options package won't open.
    2. Could you check your System Preferences, and tell
us what is listed in the login items? (Blue
    Apple>Sys Prefs>Accounts>YourAccount>Login Items.
"iTunes Helper," Kind: "Application;" three listings for "Expander Daemon," Kind: "Unknown;" one listing for "Expander Daemon," Kind: "Application;" AdobeResourceSynchronizer, Kind: "Application;" "CrossOver CD Helper," Kind: "Unknown;" "MultiAlarm Check," Kind: "Unknown."
    3. Do a "Get Info" on the Safari app in your
    Applications Folder.
What version does it say it is? (Select Icon, press
the Apple key along with the letter "i" key).
    As noted above.

  • ITunes Seem to Have Suddenly Stopped Communicating With the CD/DVD Burner

Hello, I wonder if anybody can help - my itunes application seems to have suddenly stopped communicating with my laptop's cd/dvd burner
    (Generic Name (E: H - T-S D D A S - 20N ATA Device)).
About 2 years ago, I have experienced a similar problem, but was able to resolve it by downloading 64-bit compatible GEAR drivers to my system. However, the problem has re-appeared when I have updated to iTunes Version 10.1. Funny enough, the cd/dvd burner started getting recognized again when I updated to iTunes Version 10.2, but halfway through me burning a large playlist to multiple cds has suddenly stopped recognizing the cd/dvd burner again, and has never "resolved itself" ever since.
I have tried multiple approaches to solving this issue, including completely re-installing itunes software and completely re-installing GEAR drivers, but nothing works. I have even tried uninstalling GEAR drivers completely, as I read that it worked for someone on one of the similar forums, but that didn't work either.
My itunes diagnostics runs all the points of the cd/dvd drive check successfully, except for the last point (Can Not Read Audio CD). Here's what the diagnostics summary looks like:

I have noticed that the diagnostics summary containes a suggestion to update firmware of my laptop's cd/dvd drive, but currently there are no such firmware updates available.
Another frustrating issue that I ran into was trying to convey this issue to Apple Technical Support via e-mail using the Express Lane for the troubleshooting issues. I really fail to understand why I am being asked for the "hardware serial number" when I'm clearly choosing the categories for "iTunes/CD-DVD Import Issues" which are software, not hardware, categories! This prevents me from being able to simply send the description of my problem to the correct Apple Support department, and does not let me do that even when I enter my itunes' Serial Number, which can be found in the diagnostics summary provided above.
Much Thanks to anyone who can provide any kind of helpful advice, even if it's just on how to be able to convey this problem to Apple Support via e-mail!

    Okay ... checking something else:
Current user is not an administrator
Is that true? Or do you in fact have a Windows user account with full administrative rights?
(It's possible that a permission may have gone astray in your usual user account, which might be causing the burning issues.)

If they do nothing at all, double check system preferences/speech and make sure they have not somehow gotten set as the trigger for Text to speech or speech recognition, etc.
Also try an external keyboard.  If it works ok, then your internal keyboard is probably damaged and needs repair or replacement.

  • Some trackpad functions suddenly stop working

    Hello!
I have no idea what causes this, but when I'm working on my MacBook, sometimes a couple of functions of the trackpad suddenly stop working. The functions that stop working are always the same: all of the "More Gestures" found in the "Trackpad" system preferences. Just scrolling and clicking always continue to work when this problem occurs.
When I just log out and log in again or restart my MacBook it works again, however, this can get quite annoying when you have to do this all the time.
I cannot figure out what causes these functions to suddenly stop working. Does anybody know a solution for this?

Is your MacBook one with an easily removeable battery? Some users have noted that batteries, particularly older ones, sometimes expand and interfere with the trackpad. To test for this do the following -
    Shut down your MacBook.
Remove the battery. Examine it for signs of expansion. If any are found DO NOT use it again.
Leaving the battery out, connect to the MacBook's AC power adapter.
Start up your MacBook. Test it to see if the trackpad works normally.
If the problem goes away with the battery gone, or if you notice expansion of the battery, replace the battery.
    Best of luck.

  • Some navigation bar links have suddenly stopped working

I have been producing a site in iWeb '09 for some time, with no problems. It is hosted by MobileMe.
I use a custom-built navigation bar that is saved as a test page and duplicated as and when I need a new page. There have been no problems at all until suddenly the links on the navigation bar on one page (Blogs) ceased to work. At this point nothing had been modified at all. All the other links on the page work perfectly.
Naturally I checked to see if a) here was something masking the links or b) if, for some reason, the link-enabled text boxes had been moved Backwards. They hadn't. The links on my test page are still working, as are all the other navigation bar links on the site.
As I was planning to stop the use of comments on the Blogs page, I created a new page, using the White Blogs template, but without the ability to comment. I recreated the content and used the same working navigation bar as before, copied and pasted into place. All the navigation bar links work perfectly in iWeb '09 but once again, fail to work when published. The other links on the new page work perfectly.
    Main site is: http://www.midsomernortonplatoonacf.org.uk.
Click on the Blogs link to see what I mean. Now try the following URL: http://www.midsomernortonplatoonacf.org.uk/MidsomerNortonPlatoon/TESTPAGE.html that will take you to the hidden test page. Click on the Reports link, that works perfectly, to go to my newly created, comment-less, "Blog" page - same problem!
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Dirtyrobot,
Ah ha! A cunning plan, but I'm sorry to say that, whilst it's a great idea, I'm one step ahead of you. I've done the usual Cmd+A to reveal everything, but there is nothing extra. I've brought all the text boxes with the links to the front as you suggested, but again nothing.
The only thing that I did notice, whilst moving the entire contents of the page up and down, was that there was a hidden line near the top of the page - not an actual physical line that could be selected, but a sort of 'edge of code area' that was sometimes visible, BUT only when moving a block up or down over it. Neither changing Footers and Headers nor the Padding makes any difference. There is obviously something in the page code that I can't access using any of the tools in the page layout or format boxes in the Inspector. The fact that it HAS worked before, with absolutely NO changes to the page, is what has got me hacked off! The identical Nav Bar works on every other page, being merely copied and pasted from my master test page each time.
    Curious...

  • Some Clients Not Updating. Reporting "Compliant." hr=8007000E Error in WindowsUpdate.log

I have a significant number (but not all) of my SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 clients not updating though my SCCM software updates. On these problem clients, I get this error in WindowsUpdate.log:
    "COMAPI WARNING: ISusInternal::GetUpdateMetadata2 failed, hr=8007000E"
Then these machines report "Compliant" even though they don't install the updates. Almost all of our workstations are Windows 7 SP1 32bit. We are running SCCM 2012 R2 CU3. My site servers are running Windows 2008 R2.
I don't see much in WUAhandler.log or scanagent.log. These client are however, getting my SCEP definition updates just fine. (I have an ADR for those.) And when you go out to Microsoft for security updates it works. I have tried all of the usual Windows
Updates repair suggestions (re-register dlls, rename software distribution folder, etc.) And I tried un-installing and re-installing the SCCM client on a problem PC, to no avail. I also tried using a Software Update Group with fewer updates (<100) and targeting
a problem system with only that SUG, to no avail.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi all,
One of the bigger nuissances of this particular bug is that it's hard to identify from a central location that you've fallen victim to it. Without spot-checking client machines you'd be none-the-wiser. This most likely results in a lot of shops out their
thar are completely unaware they have a security issue with a false sense of "fully patched" security.
I've create the following guidelines to identify whether you are indeed one of the victims.
    create a script configuration item.
Select All Windows 7 32 bit as the supported platform
Use String as the data type
Choose powershell as your script language of choice
Paste the following text in the discovery script:select-string-pattern'GetWARNING:
    ISusInternal::GetUpdateMetadata2 failed, hr=8007000E'-path"$env:windir\windowsupdate.log"
Add the configuration item to a Configuration baseline
Deploy the configuration baseline to All Windows 7 32bit machines
The report list of assets by compliance state for a given baseline is a good report to check the results.
!!!! Any machines reporting compliant to this baseline have a serious issue as they won't install any software updates, yet report compliant on all !!!!
    Good luck
Hi, Does the configuration item need any kind of compliance rule setup to make it work?

  • HT4262 My iPhone and iPad have suddenly stopped connecting to my apple router?

My iPhone and iPad have all of sudden started not connecting to my apple router; but they connect fine on the guest n/w I've created on the same router?  I've restated the router, changed channels but I'm now a bit lost to understand why after years of use and no problems why devices are now struglging to connect.  The wireless network is there it just seems these particluar devices can't now connect.  I've tried "forget this network" but nothing seems to work - so any help and suggestions welcome - thanks.

What version of Outlook? What version of iOS do you have on the iPhone? What version of iTunes? Can you think of anything different that you did in Outlook when this ability to sync stopped, i.e. new appointment, recurring appointment, etc.?  Have you recently done any updates or installed new software to the computer? Are you aware that all support for XP stops in about 60 days? What troubleshooting steps have you taken?

  • IWeb sites have suddenly stopped working, can't "visit", won't display.

Hello. I have two sites up, both published to "Mobile Me". One has third party domain forwarding. Both worked perfectly, including the forwarding, until Sunday morning when: http://www.acarguy.net/arnaldoburgosstudios/Home.html (which is masked as www.arnaldoburgosstudios.com) stopped loading and I went straight to the iWeb error page. If I loaded the unmasked url, (visited from iWeb) I could see the site and it worked until today. My site forwarding service said everything on their end is ok. They get the same error messages using Firefox as well. I re-published the entire site and now neither site will load and I get a blank page @ www.arnaldoburgosstudios.com and I can't "visit" either site from iWeb at all. My car blog, which was totally unaffected before today, no longer works either and both sites display one of these error messages:
    Not Found
    or
Safari can't open page: Too many redirects occurred trying to open “http://www.acarguy.net/arnaldoburgosstudios/Home.html”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page.
Can someone tell me what's wrong and how to fix it?

UPDATE: After reading 10 pages of help I tried two things:
System Preferences > MobileMe > log out > entered "garbage name + password" (to reset the preferences) > logged in correctly
System Preferences > MobileMe > Back to My Mac > turned it OFF.
Suddenly both sites loaded correctly and I can see them on my computer. However, the sites still don't display at all on 10.5.x Macs (G5 tower here, friends iMac in another state) but do display and act correctly on our old G4 running 10.4.x

  • Lots of Apps have suddenly stopped working...Help!

I've got an iBook G4 running 10.5.8 and for some reason a couple of weeks ago Safari stopped working. It would crash on launch every time. Then other apps started to follow, crashing on launch. I decided to update to 10.5.8 and Safari worked, but other apps still no longer work, like Firefox and 1Password and a bunch more. I've tried uninstalling some of the apps and reinstalling them, but I still have the same issues. I've tried running Onyx and fixing permissions, but still no dice. Also, every once in a while the computer won't come out of sleep. The computer will turn on, but the screen stays black and every now and then I get the blue screen of death for several hours. It feels like the iBook is on the way out. Any thoughts on how to save it?

I have a similar problem. And I really don't know how it happened. All was fine, I turned it off and when I switched it on next morning nothing worked.
Basically all my applications (apart from a dictionary, a music program and my system preferences) just bounce once and don't open. also, my desktop is empty, which it wasn't before the problem started. Even the finder won't open. But everything still seems to be on the hard disk because the music is still there and I can change the desktop picture choosing from my picture folders.
I tried to fix it with the instructions from the link you posted but didn't work. Thought it could be "Disk, permission, or cache corruption" or "Corrupted preferences other than those of the affected applications". Problem is that I can't run SMART diagnostics because I can't open the disc utility when putting in mac osx install disc. Also, I can't download anything to fix it because none of my browsers work.
    Any ideas?

  • Some flash players suddenly stopped loading.

About a week ago many of the regular online videos I watch stopped loading. I have windows 7 and run firefox as my browser. Over the week I've browsed various websites and help forums and attempted many different things but none have worked so far. Now when I say they do not load I mean the player itself loads, but the little loading reticle never stops spinning.
Examples that do not load for me:
https://blip.tv/day9tv/day-9-daily-201-newbie-tuesday-using-drops-4288759 (No video from this user loads)
http://roosterteeth.com/archive/?id=3450 (no video from this website load)
Examples that do load and work fine:
    Youtube
    Megavideo
https://blip.tv/sotg/starcraft-2-state-of-the-game-ep46-5474587 (This video loads perfectly fine but the other link from the same website from a different user does not load)
The only thing out of the blue that I have done recently was update to firefox 6.0, before doing this I believe my videos worked fine. I'm not sure if they stopped working right after the update or a few days after.
    Things I've tried:
    Clear Cache
Ran FF (Firefox) in safe mode
    Updated flash
    Uninstalled and reinstalled flash
I've ran various my anti virus, anti spyware, and antimalware software
(Spyware Search & Destroy, AdAware, Malware Anti-Malware Bytes)
I'm fairly certain I have tried more things but those are the only that come to mind at the moment. Help would be greatly appreciated. I miss my videos
Lastly, just to reiterate the flash player loads, but the videos do not. The reticle for loading will starts spinning and never stop.
    Thanks

I am having a similar problem. When I try to view any video from any website which lasts more than 1:30 minutes, it freezes and no longer works.  I've tried the same things that you are reporting, but I've tried one more thing that works: I've noted that this annoying thing is happening to me since I've installed Windows 7 service pack 1, and once I've uninstalled it, the problem solves itself. Is there any other solution to this problem? It's driving me crazy!!
I must apologize for not giving more details. I have the latest version of (of course) Flash player, Internet explorer, Mozilla, Opera (I have even tried with Google chrome) Windows 7 service pack 1, and I have an Asus F5 Laptop with the latest version of the Nvidia drivers. It's something strange because this problem it's not because of the web browser (it happens to me with all browsers). I have tried with many Flash player versions, uninstalling and reinstalling, and the only thing that worked for me was when I realized that one of the things I had recently changed was that service pack. Once I've uninstalled service pack 1, it works for me with all web browsers....
But what can I do to work with Windows 7 service pack 1 and Flash player in Web browsers?????

  • N96 Podcast problems - some podcasts have suddenly...

I've recently noticed that some podcasts on my 96 have vanished.  Music player cannot see/list them however they are clearly still on the phone as i can see them via file manager. I've refreshed the music library and it seem these podcasts are totally invisible to the music player now.
Anyone got anything similar or solved it already ??
Oh yes this was occured around the same time as my v20 firmware update.  Alongside another gallery problem i'm having and posted about i'm begining to wonder if version 20 firmware has got inherent bugs in it and messed up my phone.  Any offers ??

Is the music player finding any music at all?
Where are you looking for the podcasts in the Podcast library or as part of the All songs?
It could be that old podcasts may have lost the "podcast" tag when the firmware was updated. Are new podcasts also not being found?

  • Can anyone explain why all of my Spry Assets on a live website have suddenly stopped working?

Can anyone explain why all of my Spry Assets on a live website have stopped responding? I have checked that the Spry CSS and JS files are in place. Then checked the files on Dreamweavers live view and they are not working there either. It was fine a few weeks ago, it is almost as if the web browsers have stopped rending Spry, for example, the links for the collapsible panels are not even being recognised as links.
I am using 'old' spry assets on Dreamweaver CS4 (if that makes a difference). The Spry Assets used are Tabbed Panels and Collapsible Panels.
    Thanks for your help.

Something has been going on, when I look at the bottom of your document (as pasted below), this is normally all at the top after the links to external style sheets.
