Some contact names disappeared

Yesterday some of my contact names just disappeard.
Some of them are in my favorites where they now shows up as a number instead.
I Updated the phone to the latest iOS three days ago.
Someone having a clue why and what to do?

Check under Settings > iCloud to see if the Contacts switch is ON (green side showing). If it's already on, switch it off for 30-60 seconds, then back on again. Your contacts should start showing up shortly.

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.

Quotation marks under some contact names

So I have this issue that's been bugging me for a while. Under some of my contact names there are quotations (ie ""). I know where they are coming from, they are from the field "Nick Name." The problem is that I do not have any nick names for any of my contacts. Whenever I go to edit a contact on my iphone, the "Nick Name" field is always there, but it is blank (and there is no way for me to get rid of it). Unlike other fields such as "Prefix" or "Suffix", if I add them, but then do not fill in that field with anything when I edit the name, the field automatically goes away. I have checked Address Book and none of my contacts have a "Nick Name" field. The same is true for my MobileMe Account. This is really annoying!!! It seems as though my iPhone is randomly deciding to add the field "Nick Name" to some of my contacts, and does not give me the option the delete that field. Does anyone else have this issue and know what to do?
Also, I have checked and there is no space or anything in that field (it is completely blank) and I have tried replacing all my contacts on my iPhone and even restored my iPhone to factory settings and then synced everything back. (No Workie)

Hi,
I have not worked out why but if the Contacts apps on both devices are not Synced then what you describe happens.
It seems worse if the Mac (System Preferences > iCloud > Contacts option) has been on in the past and then turned Off.
This seems to "lose" whatever was the Address Book/Contacts info before hand (even if it started on the Mac and was used to populate the iPhone's version).
Whilst iCloud is the listed choice here it also works with other method (System Preferences > Internet Accounts such as Facebook or Google)
To check open the Contacts app and go to Preferences > Accounts and see what it list for Syncing.
it can get confused if two are listed.

Now that I have downloaded the new software, the contact name disappears and just the number shows up on my text.

Now that I have downloaded the new software for my iphone, the contact name of the person who is texting me disappears and only the phone number is there. This only happens if the person texting is using an iphone.
Any solutions?

You just need to restore your phone and if you can then you must get an iphone 5s. Its the best iphone ever. I advise you stay away from droids if you have used an apple device. Well like many people you can also keep two phones one apple and one droid.

Contact names disappeared only numbers - factory reset, how????

This AM my 4S decided my contact names were worthless and decided I should refer to my contacts by their phone numbers whether it be via text messaging or calling. I have tried restarting the phone and reseting the phone. I'm at a loss, how do I preform a factory reset???
Or does someone have a solution to my cunundrom???

I have the same problems as Anne Kathrine - just I don't use MobileMe for sync.
Some of my contacts just shows their number in sms, but when I get the message and if they call me, their name shows up as expected. I can also write a sms to one of the persons using their name.
Have also tried the same things as Anne Kathrine has done.

Quit Safari completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that didn't work - try this. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

If you are talking about iMessage... It will send messages to people that are using ios5, and have turned I message on on their device. For your other contacts, you need to send a good old fashioned e mail.

Some contact names are not being updated

Some of my friends show as live:abc123 or facebook:abc123 and don't update in my contacts list even when the friends change it later in their profile. I have this issue both on Windows and Windows Phone. Please fix this.

Contacts names disappeared

My entire contact list emptied. I still see numbers if under favorites and recents, just not names. The last time this happened I synced to a backup on a specific date. Now I can't find a choice in dates to sync. All other info is in my phone. Help! How can I get my contact list back?

Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer.
I think I'm pretty much sailing up a creek without a paddle.
Yes you are, which is why you should sync contacts with a supported application on your computer as is designed and intended. How do you get by without having all your contact info available on your computer, or having email addresses only for contacts on your computer, phone numbers only for contacts with your cell phone, and mailing addresses only for contacts who knows where. And what would happen if your iPhone were lost or stolen and you didn't have the resources to purchase another iPhone at the time?
Sorry, but I think you can kiss your contact info goodbye, but lesson learned.

Copying contacts name and number onto SIM card

Hi. Firstly I know there are topics* on this, albeit outdated and offer no real solutions.
This issue need serious attention.
Scenario
BB Curve scroller is broke, can't scroll up/down.
Backed up my contact list to restore later when I get my fixed phone back.
Meanwhile, to use a replacement phone, I will need some contact names + numbers on my SIM.
I cannot count on the replacement being a BB, don't count on sync.
Solutions
Copying a few contacts one-by-one is _not_ an option, without a scroller this is impossible.
Example: Home screen > press "c" for contacts -> filter to contact > menu > press "v" to select view > can't scroll to the number to actualize the 'copy to SIM' menu action.
So, how can I copy my contacts to the SIM card?

Reading the older threads, there is very unhelpful biased rude remarks about how this requested "feature" is not 'important' enough or a real requirement for modern phones.
I say this house is built on wobbly foundations. This is the base of HID (human interaction devices), cross communication and transfer of data.
I'm disappointed in RIM for locking down the device in such a way - so many folks ask for this feature, because it is a standard around since the first of cellular phones.
SIM card may only have 32K of storage, but I still expect them to keep a name and a number if I need.

Unfortunately, I don't either. If you delete the MobileMe account from the iPhone, I believe you'll erase all of the contact info on the iPhone. If it's not in MobileMe either...well, that's not good!
One possibility for the contacts data (but not the calendar data). Contacts are backed up when you sync the iPhone (not to your Address Book via sync with MobileMe active, but in the iPhone backup made by iTunes before a sync). There's 3rd party app, MobileSyncBroswer, which can export the contact info from the iPhone's backup file on your hard drive. You'd need to buy a license to actually export the contact data, the free version lets you see part of the contact info so you can make sure it's there.

My contacts keep disappearing on my Iphone4s

When I go to send a text or call I type the contact name the number its under and I recognizes the contact, but when I actually text or call the contact name disappears and just shows the number saved. I went to my contact list and most every contact name and number is gone. I typed the contact name in the search bar of my contact list and none of them show up. I reset my phone to see if it would fix the problem and it didn't help. Can someone please help me fix this problem, it is very frustrating.

If so do any of them use your Apple ID with iCloud?
If so then they got your contacts on their device and deleted them, which deleted them from iCloud and deleted them from your phone.

I have this identical problem. For a while my group texts didnt show up on my ipad. Then one day they did, maybe everyone in the group started using the same os version or something. Ever since my first reply to the group there have been complaints of multiple threads. I can not find a pattern for when my group text's decide they want to create a new thread. (it doesnt happen every time) Everyone in the group has deleted the thread, we've all toggled imessage on/off etc. There still hasn't been a solution.
Any help would be appreciated.
