Some devices cannot get internet

Hi there,
Hope someone can help me.  We have a BT Hub 3.0 at our school, but for some reason some machines can connect to the network and see folders, but not get any connection to the internet.
I am thinking is there a pool is leased addressese the hub sends out either run out?
Maybe there is a block put on some devices due to firewall policies?
Or could it be something else.
I have checked out the BT Hub Manager - Event Log, but to be honest I am not sure what I am looking for.  Its a shame, because some students just cannot get access to the internet, regardless if I reboot the Hub or not.
Thanks

I had another look at the settings and experiement a few.
It seems on some machines I can ping google via the IP address and the DNS name
On the machines that cannot connect to the internet, I cannot ping with their dns name e.g. www.google.com.  Jowever I can ping the IP address e.g. 31.55.162.152
What setting on the BT Home Hub 3.0 can I change in order to resolve issues with DNS?
Thanks

  • Some devices cannot get on the internet

I'm at end's wits with my network at home.  We have a Clear modem with only one antenna to their tower (no internal WiFi), cabled to our Airport Extreme (more than 10 feet away).  The Clear modem is annoying and won't let me disable DHCP, so I created a private network with a range of IPs 192.168.1.100 to 200.
Only four devices will get on the internet, the other 2 won't.  I can ping from them the router and even an external website but not no browser will work on them.
Any ideas?  It's beyond frustrating.  Is the Airport limited to 4 devices only? That would seem absurd.
    Thanks Nicolas

    Hello 1BillyMac,
It seems you have a network conflict that isn't allowing your MacBook Pro to connect to the internet. This may be caused by both computers sharing identical network settings. You may want to consider creating a new network location on your MacBook Pro to assign new network settings. The following article will instruct you on how to do that:
OS X Yosemite: Add a network location
A network location is a group of network settings
A network location is a group of network settings for your various network services (Ethernet or Wi-Fi for example).
If you often change network settings, you may find switching between locations quicker and easier than repeatedly modifying individual groups of settings.
For example, you might want to make a location for “home,” where you connect to the Internet with a telephone modem, and a location for “office,” where you connect to your company network and the Internet using Ethernet or AirPort.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Network.
Click the Location pop-up menu, choose Edit Locations, then click Add .
Enter a name for the location, then click Done.
Enter settings for each network connection service you want to use in that location.
After you create your locations, you can switch all of your network settings by clicking the Location pop-up menu and choosing a different location.

  • Some Devices cannot connect to internet

Hey all, just started having this problem about 2-3 weeks ago. Some devices including My pc, 2 laptops, and 2 roku devices are able to connect to the internet just fine (all via wireless). Internet is noticeably slower however, and my pc which also has a wired line is unable to connect via the hardwire connection. The devices unable to connect are my Nexus 7 tablet, Roku HD, and a Vizio Smart TV. (Tablet and Roku via wireless, smart tv via hardwire.)
My router is a WRT54GS2 V1. Like I said, I never had any issues with any of these devices prior to 2-3 weeks ago. None of the devices are new and have all been connected in my home for some time.
When trying to connect my tablet it will say Authenticating, Obtaining IP Address, and then after a while of trying to connect it says Avoided Poor Internet connection.
The Roku HD stops at the second bubble where it says Connecting to Local Network (or something like that).
The Vizio Smart TV just won't do anything. When I attempt to test connection it just says unable to connect.
The real kicker is that I have been able to get the internet working on all devices 2-3 different times which lasts a few days maybe. Really all I did was keep trying to unplug the router and modem until it worked (mostly to no success).
So any help/support at all would be greatly appreciated!!

This could be two separate cases. The wireless devices are no longer able to connect possibly due to interfering signal in the area the you need to avoid. Try changing the wireless channel to 6, 9, 11, and 1. The second case could be a cable problem or a setting with the Smart TV. Use a different cable to plug the Smart TV to your router. Check other wired devices if they're working with the router too.

  • Cannot get internet to work

    Hi Everyone,
I have a blackberry storm 2 that was originally on a verizon network  here in the US.  It is now unlocked and I am using tmobile.  My plan allows me unlimited internet, but this is not the blackberry plan.  So simple browsing should work.
Unfortunately even after calling tmobile I cannot get the internet to work on my phone.  Everytime I try to connect to the net I get this message " This is a wifi service .  Please ensure your device has an active wifi connection and try again. "
I was given a bunch of settings , restarted the phone , and was eventually told to go to the advanced options , browser and change the default setting of hotspot browser.  For some odd reason I cannot change it to anything, it remains stuck on hotspot browser with no other option.   As mentioned earlier while I do not have a blackberry plan , i do have unlimited web browsing , which I cannot perform from my phone.
Any  help would be  much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Fahad

No, You MUST have THE BlackBerry Data Plan. There are well over thousands of posts  in this forum stating just that. Easy to search and find.
The ONLY browsing which will work will the HotSpot browser, when connected to WiFi. Only that.

Again, there are NO settings which will make your "unlimited web browsing" plan work. A generic plan will not work. Period.
You will not be able to change the browser type from Hotspot to anything else... because until you get the BlackBerry Data plan, there is nothing else. Nothing.
Additionally, to get the Verizon Storm to work on Tmobile, EVEN once you DO get the BlackBerry Data Plan, it is a quite complicated process involving some major workarounds and editing of the java files. If you want to pursue that, ask me. But first you must have the correct data plan.

  • Cannot get internet to work over a mobile modem!

Hello. I'd like to use my Samsung A401 Telstra Mobile for wireless internet access when I'm away with my iBook. I so far have tested my phone working with the Samsung drivers on Windows XP, with built in UTMS/GPRS support on Ubuntu x86 and recently Ubuntu PPC on a friends IBook G4.
But I can't get the connection to work with OSX 10.4.11 on my iBook!
I also had a chance to test Mac OSX 10.5 PPC on my friends iBook G4. 10.5 knows about GPRS modems but it was no better than my 10.4. It still didn't work. Acted exactly the same.
What happens is that OSX gets the IP addresses but no internet! It's totally bizarre to be connected online but still have no internet! :-?
When I plug the mobile in through a USB data cable it detects it as a USB modem so no driver problems there. I did some net research and found some 3G Mac modem scripts on Ross Barkman's site and also came across a Samsung t509 Tmo script somewhere else. I am using the Generic 3G script.
As an example here are the IP addresses I get. From console PPP log:
    Thu May 20 17:45:04 2010 : ipcp: up
    Thu May 20 17:45:04 2010 : local IP address 10.222.32.153
    Thu May 20 17:45:04 2010 : remote IP address 10.222.32.0
    Thu May 20 17:45:04 2010 : primary DNS address 139.130.4.4
    Thu May 20 17:45:04 2010 : secondary DNS address 203.50.2.71
    From ifconfig:
    ppp0: flags=8051<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    inet 10.222.32.153 --> 10.222.32.0 netmask 0xff000000
If I didn't know any better I'd say the mobile had given me an IP address from it's DHCP server and forgot to "NAT" it to the outside world. As you can see they are strange and in the old 10.x.x.x local range.
However they are correct as that's just the sort of IP addresses Windows and Ubuntu reported. But what are they doing that OSX is not? This has really been driving me nuts! I know mobile modems can work in OSX!
If I try to ping any of the IP addresses they are all dead. Even the local IP allocated one. I also notice in the Connect window that OSX is sending data out but not receiving any in. OTOH on OSX 10.5 I did see some data come back at the start. But still the outside world could not be reached.
Has anyone got any clues? I really want to use OSX for mobile internet. I'd rather not be forced to install Linux on my iBook just to get internet working! :-o

I'm at a bit of a disadvantage, never even having touched a Cell Phone yet!
Really! Not even an iPhone? :-o
In Network prefs, along with the strange IP, does it have a reasonable IP for the Server also?
It doesn't IMHO. The local IP is okay but this is a strange pair:
    10.172.190.107
    10.172.190.0
The netmask making it even stranger:
    255.0.0.0
    It's whacked!
Did you use Internet Connect to setup the Dialing & Login?
Actually no, well not exactly. I used the Network pane to set up the connection. Then told that to dial which brought up Connect for me that does the dialling.
The dialling in is strange, as it's based on the fake number *99# which makes the connection to the mobile broadband, and then uses PPP over the serial link (USB in my case) for the TCP/IP link up. My user and pass remain blank but I need to specify my APN (Access Point Name) in the number string. This seems to be a pseudo-standard among mobile/GPRS/UTMS modem scripts.
Having a blank user and pass makes it hard to set it up using the Assistant.
Does having Console open when trying to get a URL show any clues?
I can't see anything that stands out. It all seems to go well. But I did notice lately that the Mac recorded sending IP data. Didn't see that logged before. But I was playing with the PPP settings and seeing if manual worked. BTW why can't I specify netmask and router in manual PPP setting? I did have to pull my phone out to disconnect since it ignores the hang up command and my Mac complains about a removed USB device.
On that note, have a log:

  • Cannot get internet access in Windows 10

    Symptoms
You are connected to an access point or with the ethernet cable and cannot get an IP address.
    No internet access
    DiagnosisSolution

    All,
There can be multiple reasons - drivers not up to date (please use the latest from our website) or in some cases could be related to VPNs and some anti-virus applications.  Please see https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Windows-10-no-network-connections-or-wifi/m-p/2130264#M861

  • HT4718 I cannot get internet recovery to work at all for my macbook air.

I somehow or other seem to have completely erased everything and have had to run the internet recover for my macbook air. Im not sure which year model it is. Anyway I am trying to reinstall lion from internet recovery and was using a verizon jetpack. Well it got down to 3 hours 6 mins remaining and that was after about an hour of running (it was actually installing lion for me) then it began going up slowly clear up to three and a half hours. So i decided to try using an ethernet connection and now I cant even get internet recovery to recognize that there is internet and it keeps putting an exclaimation point in the globe and saying -4403F. Ive tried going through the process several times and I am lost. Can someone please help me. I do have an open case with Apple Care but I want to get this up and running tonight if possible and they are closed.

  • New Airport Extreme in Bridge mode -- some devices have no internet access

I just bought a new Airport Extreme as my old one which was probably 7 years old required restarting every day. My setup is as follows: DSL cable modem to Linksys Router (for a long set of convoluted reasons, I can't remove this layer) and then Airport Extreme. This is how I had it set up with my old one. The only difference is I recently started looking into using "Back to the Mac" on MobileMe and in order for it to work, I set my new Airport Extreme to Bridge mode due to dual NAT. I have an iMac, PC, MBP, MBA, iphone 4, AppleTV and ipad. All was working fine last night when I set it up. 24 hours later, for some odd reasons, I can't have my PC accessing the wireless network at the same time. If I did, it would knock my iMac off the network and says some other device is using the same IP address. For a while, only my iMac (my main computer) can access it and even my iphone can't. At this very moment, my iphone, imac and MBP all have access to the wireless network. My MBA and iPad has no internet connection. I've restarted Airport Extreme, Linksys, and modem more than once... If I switch back to "Use Public IP Address" instead of Bridge mode, everything works except for "Back to the Mac"... Help!

Hey Bob, Thanks...I have already repeated that multiple times yesterday and today but to no avail. I tried to get into the Linksys router control panel but unfortunately we can't remember the username and password (the router is not mine). The make things even more complicated, the router is actually part of the internet package provided by the ISP and they use a PPPoE to log in. Theoretically, we could do a hard reset but the problem is the ISP will not release the PPPoE information unless we sign a long and complicated form saying we want to bypass their Linksys router. We can do that but this process will take days and weeks... Our ISP confirmed that the Linksys router is set to max out at 5 DHCP but we can only connect 3 machines at a time. They are coming out to take a look tomorrow but in the meantime I have reset the Airport Extreme to "Distribute a Public IP Address" mode which will allow access to all computers/devices. What's even more weird is that if I did the Bridge mode, it messes up the Linksys router's own network as well. We can't even just sign into that network... Any ideas why?

  • Cannot get internet on Windows 8 boot camp

Cannot connect to the internet using BootCamp and Windows 8 Pro. I have a 2013 MacBook Air 13", OSX 10.9.4. I can boot up in Windows 8 but can't connect to the internet. I run connections assistant in Windows and it can't find the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated....Thanks Thomas

    Hello-
I did a more recent update, it appears that the software needed was not available at my two original attempts. If you get the USB drive and just do the update, it now works...it was quite easy and the seam between MS and OSX seemed very good. Thanks Thomas

  • I just changed ISP and now I cannot get internet via my Time Machine

I just switched from DSL to cable internet. Now I cannot access my existing wifi network, and am having connectivity issues with the internet via wifi AND ethernet when I use my Time Machine as my router. By bypassing the router, the internet works fine. My IP address starts with 169 when I have the modem and Time Machine paired together, so there's some sort of miscommunication, I'm sure. I want my wireless network back! FRUSTRATING!!

Open time machine and shut it off.
Chances are you will still be receiving the emails, meaning that it is a spam type of malware that may have changed your mail settings and only appears to be from the time machine.
Open your mail program preferences and set to delete from server after being read, if that is possible with your mail program.
Sometimes it is not best to forward all the seemingly harmless and funny emails that come your way.
After all, that is what the kids writing viruses are counting on.
Perhaps a free antivirus program such as Sophos may help you out.

  • Cannot get Internet Sharing to work

    Hi,
Has anyone ever had success with internet sharing? Basically we are trying to avoid buying an Airport Base Station.
Ever since OS 10.0 I've fiddled with sharing my ethernet connection over airport via Internet Sharing. I've never had success.
Current setup is an Intel iMac hardwired with ethernet, trying to share internet with a Powerbook G4. Personal web sharing is switched on. I've toggled the firewall on and off, no success. On the powerbook I just get a strong signal, and the network status shows that the "airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet."
    Thanks!

here is how i do it:
I recieve wifi with my macbook. In sysprefs i tell it to share my connection from airport to computers using ethernet (u would choose fw, no prob)
I also have personal file sharing turned on under the services tab as well as remote login, this is probly not nec.
under network (still on the comp recieving primary internet connect.in your case thru ethernet..) go to show FW and pull down DHCP using manual address. this is crucial. Now enter in the ip address 192.168.2.90
where it says DNS enter 208.67.222.222
now go to your recipient computer, go to network select the good ol show FW and this time on the pull down select "using DHCP"
manually enter the DNS as 208.67.220.220
Im not sure if its necessary but i turn the person file sharing on as well as remote login. on the recipient computer i do not turn on the internet sharing of course.
this should work. it works splendidly for me.

  • PAP2T - some devices cannot go off-hook to dial

Not sure if this is the right place for Linksys VOIP hardware - though Cisco moved everything onto their site...
I have a PAP2T that seems to have trouble letting some analog devices dial out. Specifically, I tried it with a credit-card machine, and it seemed like the PAP2T would never go off-hook so it could dial. I saw no SIP traffic for any dialing. However, I immediately plugged the same FXS port into a fax machine, and that fax machine was able to dial out fine.

Before you set up port forwarding on your router, change two of the Phone Adapter's settings using its Interactive Voice Response Menu. First, disable its DHCP feature, then assign a static IP address to the Phone Adapter.
