Some devices cannot get on the internet

I'm at end's wits with my network at home.  We have a Clear modem with only one antenna to their tower (no internal WiFi), cabled to our Airport Extreme (more than 10 feet away).  The Clear modem is annoying and won't let me disable DHCP, so I created a private network with a range of IPs 192.168.1.100 to 200.
Only four devices will get on the internet, the other 2 won't.  I can ping from them the router and even an external website but not no browser will work on them.
Any ideas?  It's beyond frustrating.  Is the Airport limited to 4 devices only? That would seem absurd.
Thanks Nicolas

My airport extreme (generation 5) was set up using wifi and has worked flawlessly (on macbook pro 2 iphones and window 7 HP pc)until recently. I have reset to factory defaults over and over but still cannot get on the internet. However I can then take my DSL cord and insert it in a different Ethernet port other than the WAN port and I can get internet on my Mac and iphones but only wifi on my husband's PC.  I hate to spend another $179 if this is just something I'm doing wrong. Please help

I'm having a bit of trouble confirming that the ZyXEL is a combination modem & wireless-N router. If it is, then you really won't get any advantages of using the 802.11g AirPort.
If the range of your ZyXEL is limited, you may find that doing either or both of the following will help: 1) Move the ZyXEL so that it is higher vs. lower in the room, that is away from any closed areas or placed in a metal cabinet, and 2) Changing radio channels. The latter is especially important in you live in an area where there are a number of competing Wi-Fi.
A good utility to find out, is iStumbler. You would use this to find these other Wi-Fi and find which have the strongest signal value. Those that do, you would also want to note which channel they are operating on, and then, change yours to one that is at least 3-5 channels away. So, for example, if you find strong ones on channels 1 & 6, change yours to 11.

  • Some devices cannot get internet

    Hi there,
Hope someone can help me.  We have a BT Hub 3.0 at our school, but for some reason some machines can connect to the network and see folders, but not get any connection to the internet.
I am thinking is there a pool is leased addressese the hub sends out either run out?
Maybe there is a block put on some devices due to firewall policies?
Or could it be something else.
I have checked out the BT Hub Manager - Event Log, but to be honest I am not sure what I am looking for.  Its a shame, because some students just cannot get access to the internet, regardless if I reboot the Hub or not.
    Thanks

I had another look at the settings and experiement a few.
It seems on some machines I can ping google via the IP address and the DNS name
On the machines that cannot connect to the internet, I cannot ping with their dns name e.g. www.google.com.  Jowever I can ping the IP address e.g. 31.55.162.152
What setting on the BT Home Hub 3.0 can I change in order to resolve issues with DNS?
    Thanks

  • Some programms cannot connect to the internet

    Hi!
I have recently bought a new laptop with windows 8,1. Some of the programms that i mainly download from the internet and not from the store say that cannot connect to the internet. But i have internet... and all the other programms works correctly. I tried
to switch off windows firewall and windows defender but the problem is the same. So what can i do about that?

Some of the programms that i mainly download from the internet and not from the store say that
    cannot connect to the internet.
Often that is just a misleading interpretation of "cannot do a DNS lookup fast enough to suit the program that wants one done" and further that the network topology is probably such that the program thinks it is on a LAN and therefore expecting
LAN level response time (e.g. you have it connected to a router with a local address for your DNS server.)
A workaround for such a scenario is making sure that the dnscache contains the full lookup that the program wants.  E.g. you can use  ipconfig /flushdns  then ping -n 1 -w 1 <problem hostname> then ipconfig /displaydns to see how much
time you have to use it (e.g. look at the Time To Live values, which are given as seconds before the entry will be removed from the dnscache.)
    Good luck

  • I cannot use any server therefore I cannot get on the internet. My ipad can get on the internet. I reset my foxfire to default and now i must have messed it u

I cannot get online from foxfire. My wifi is working since i have it on my ipad. is foxfire locked up so it cannot allow me to use a server to get on the internet. there is no connection. when i reset firefox to default maybe it did not set up right.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

My Ipad2 won't turn off.  I have tried the reset method by holding both buttons down for at least 10 seconds, but this doesn't work.  I can't get onto the internet via wi-fi either (don't have a 3G card fitted).  All other functions seem to be working OK including charging. Not had this problem before, but I recently upgraded software to 5.1.1 so is there a bug in there somewhere?

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • Visual internet connection, but cannot get on the internet? Help:(

    Hi people.
My wife bought me an Ipod touch. This is a long time ago, because I cannot use it with my wi-fi connection home. I took it with me to my parents, and it worked without any problems there. I took it with me to my place, and I got the same problems.
It says that I got connection and I have the Wi-fi connection icon, but I'm not connected to the net.
I've tried to connect many times. I've deleted and restarted the thing. I've looked at the IP adress, and it started with 169. I've tried to look at this discussion board, but haven't found any help.
I'm getting quite desperate, and I would like to get some help. Since I am quite a beginner, I would like a simple answer:) But any help will do great.
    Thank you

I've looked at the IP adress, and it started with 169.
This means you aren't actually connected to the Internet; only to your router.
An easy first attempt at a fix is to turn your router off and then on again.

  • I cannot get on the internet through Ethernet

    Hi Everyone,
I am 100% new to macs, I just purchased a mini used from someone and I have tried to set up the internet through ethernet card and it will not work. I have researched for two days now and there doesn't seem to be an answer. I have done it all using DHCP to try to automatically get the settings but it is bringing up 169 IP address is is wrong. I have tried manually entering the information in and no luck. It is connected straight from the modem there is no router. I am usually good with PC's and could fix everything but right now I am stumped. I am running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger. I thought I would try this out to see if anyone could help.
    Thank you in advance

OK, If they are not using fixed IP addresses, then you should be using THEIR Router. You should get your IP Address through DHCP from their Router. \[As an aside, there can be quite a large cascade of Routers -- yours plus theirs.]
The 169.254.xxx.yyy address is the "self-assigned" address used by your Mac when no one responds to its initial broadcast of a request for assignment of an IP address. This is a complicated way of saying "no one will talk to you".
One thing to check for before declaring their box dead is the lights when the cables are plugged in. No lights sometimes means you are using a cross cable where a straight cable is required or the reverse. Most modern Macs "sniff" the cable and adjust to use whatever cable is provided, but older Macs do not.
Some providers grab the first M.A.C. Address (Hardware Address) they see, and limit connection to only that device, ever. So if your computer dies and you get a new one, you have to call them up and ask them to reset their box. Sometimes there is a procedure for a "Deep" reset in their manuals, and you may need to apply that now. \[and if you decide to add your own Router later, you call them and tell them you are installing a different "computer". Your Router then becomes the only registered device.]

  • BEFW11S4 v4 - wired devices work, wireless devices cannot connect to the Internet

    Greetings,
I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless, ver 4. I have a PC connected directly to one of the Ethernet ports, and have no problem with that connection. I have a DSL service from Verizon. All devices are running Windows XP.
My wireless Laptop, as well as other desktop with wireless USB adapter cannot access the Internet. It seems that I have a wireless connection between the router and these devices since my Laptop can see the SSID and the wireless network and connect to it. But when I try to launch IE explorer or use AOL, I am not successful.
The frustrating part is that the wireless laptop used to work just few days ago and I haven't changed any set-up or added any hardware.  I have tried to re-install the router, and also did few resets...but nothing is working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Elie

    Elie,
From one of the wireless computer, wither desktop or laptop, try this to help isolate the issue:
fo to Start>run> type "cmd" then click enter
that would open MS DOS, type: Ping (your router IP address)
For Example, if the router IP address is 192.168.1.1, then type:
    ping 192.168.1.1 then click enter
if it does not come back with a time out, then you your PC is connected to the router. If it did time out, then it is the wireless connection.
If so, check the wireless configuration on the router, as of SSID, security if any , etc.. and make sure that the wireless card in each desktop and laptop match those settings. Be aware that SSID is "case sensitive" so it has to match exactly the one in the router.
hope that will help you in troubleshooting the issue

  • Some Programs Cannot Connect to the Internet

I don't know why but I can get the internet working fine with everything accept a couple programs, namely Steam for mac, and Limewire. For some reason these programs are not being allowed access to the internet. I have no firewall setup and no antivirus programs that could block the connection. I actually just bought this computer thinking that the problem was a result of a glitch in my old computer, but alas it is not. Maybe it has to do with my airport extreme? Thoughts?

Well I figured out the problem was that there was a program blocking there connections. I didn't know that peer guardian is still working in the background even after you close the application. Problem solved, thanks for the help.
