Some Drum notes not displaying in Score editor

I have a problem with a project in getting a correct display of the drum notes in the Score editor despite the playback being OK. I have a mapped drum instrument set up with an identcal structure to that on another project which is working properly. This includes the staff type, the establishment of the drum groups, the relative note positions etc. The difference I have found when comparing the event editor contents between the project which does dispaly correctly and the one the doesn't is that on the one that does, each note is the event list shows the drum type e.g. ride cym, snare, kick etc. whereas as in the project with the display problems, the event display for each note simply shows the word 'Note' even for the parts of the track which do display correctly.
Can anyone advise where the problem could be. I've spent the best part of the day trying to sort this out and now am at a loss as to what to try next !
thanks for any advice.

Hi
Do you have the track correctly assigned to the Mapped Instrument Environment object?
One way is to drag the Mapped Instrument from the Environment window onto the Track Header

Is there an bug in Version 7.0.09 ?
Or maybe some missing plugins ?
For an helpful answer i will be very happy!

Hi,
Unfortunately, if you are getting that error - it indicates that the NWDS installation is corrupted.
You will need to uninstall the NWDS and reinstall it - backup your data before doing so.
Thanks.
Hope this helps.

• The score editor

I'm new to Logic, and I'm wondering: does the score editor really suck, or is it just me? I can read notation very good, and have also been using Sibelius for several years, but the score editor in Logic is impossible to use! I choose a value, as an example a eight note(don't know if this is the english term, but I mean 1/8), and then when I press the place it's going to be placed, it's suddenly a quarter note! Then when I add next tone, they play in harmony, instead of being after each other! I've read the manual, but doesn't seem to explain it very well there either.

Hi
Logic's notation engine is dependent on some settings in the score Region parameters box.
The Display parameters 'Quantize' function sets the smallest note (and rest) that will be displayed. For example, if set to 1/8 notes, you will never see 1/32 notes displayed.
(See page 730 for more info).
The 'Interpretation' function is used generally to 'tidy up' actual MIDI recordings, which will unlikely have exactly the correct note length. Interpret attempts to clean these up. When entering notes manually in the score editor, Interpretation should not be needed, as the events are exactly the right length. (see page 732 for more info).

• Problems creating bass tab in score editor...

Trying to write some bass tab directly into the score editor for printing out later. First thing I created was a bassline that's only on the low E. When I did the 5th fret A Logic kept putting the note to the open third string A. I fixed that in the tab layout section by setting the A1 pitch to A2 and the note now goes to the 5th fret A like I want.
But in the next measure I want a B5 bassline on the 7th fret/4th string and 9th fret/3rd string, B and F#. I can get the B no problem, but Logic is forcing the F# to the 14th fret/4th string note instead of the 9th fret/3rd string I want. I've tinkered with changing pitches in the guitar tab layout, but nothing is getting me an F# on the 9th fret/3rd string. Any ideas?
I wish I could do this in in Finale Notepad, but as far as I can tell, I can't do hammer on/pull off symbols unless I buy the upgrade...things I need to do in the THIRD measure!

I am sorry to have to say that importing scores was not the reason for MIDI, it is for the MIDI editor only. There is a NEW system now called XML and it can transfer scores and midi, but Logic can only open XML files from SoundtrackPro, Other sequencers,[ Cubase5 ] say they can safely transfer scores but I haven't tried it yet. There is a reply in this forum marked !solved! from me to someone else in which I falsely claim that logic CAN import xml,I was wrong, dig deeper and you will find that the choices for importing are MIDI, ,OMF, Open TL, and AAF, I haven't found any info on what AAF can do, but the other two are only for audio files only. I don't remember Finale exporting AAF so no joy there. Happy searching.

• HELP!! using Key switches and score editor.

Hey guys,
I'm in need of some help here.
so I was wondering if there is a way to hide notes that are being used for keyswitching between various samples?
the idea is so that I can keep a tidy score that I can print out as well.
while using EWQL or VSL I do use notes outside of the range of the specific instrument to switch between various articulations, but I would like to have these notes "hidden" in the score view, so that if I print out the score it is clean and makes sense.
any ideas would be greatly appreciate it it and thanks in advance.
sincerely
David

Hey there,
so the only place I saw where I could change the range was in the inspector for the midi track in the arrange window. I changed it there, however, the notes that are out of range still show up in the score window.
sorry if I sound dumb, I'm not used to using score editor in Logic I normally use Sibelius for this and I really appreciate your help.
thank you
David

• Is it possible to change the length of a note in the score editor?

I thought I saw somewhere that it was now possible to adjust the length of a note in the score editor graphically, i.e. by clicking on the note and somehow adjust its length directly to change it from 1/4 note to 1/8 (for example).
I don't want to do this by going over to the "Length" dialog on the left because I hate having to switch from thinking in terms of music notation and then having to think (temporarily) in MIDI ticks per beat, etc.
I must admit that I'm finding it extremely frustrating to simply enter music into Logic in a score....I thought this was supposed to be one of its strengths but it seems to be providing amazing capabilities at the expense of ease of use for beginners.

greetings dh... are you into Key Commands? There are two which will help you do the above in a trice:
• Nudge Region/Event Length Right by SMPTE Frame
• Nudge Region/Event Length Left by SMPTE Frame
I set mine to the simple letter o and n
- I click on a note and press o repeatedly.. it grows and grows longer and longer
– I click on a note and press n repeatedly.. it shrinks and shrinks shorter and shorter
All by little increments
If you keep a Piano Roll window open while you do this, you can see the length do this exactly
man, it is VERY quick and handy for changing the length of notes
It really helps to have a view of the midi Piano Roll to cross check the exact length and position of the notes.
Check out the Key Commands:
• Set Next Higher division
• Set Next lower division
These change the note value in the transport bar near the time signature. Your time signature may be 4/4 but the "grid" on which the notes are appear in the Piano Roll could be displayed in quarter, 8th or 16th notes. If you experiment with these commands, then you can match the note lengths easily to the grid display visually (with the above nudge length commands)
Also - you may like to experiment with the following 3 KEY Key Commands:
1 • Nudge Region/Event Position Right by Nudge Value
2 • Nudge Region/Event Position Left by Nudge Value
This will move your selected notes forward in time or back in time according to the
value that is set in the Transport bar - say it is 16ths .. then each press of the key will move the notes a 16th
or if the value is 8th notes, then each press of the key forward or backwards will move the selected notes forward or back by this amount
... amazingly useful when you are taking a whole phrase and pasting it somewhere else, or if say you started to write a phrase in the Score Editor and you started on the wrong beat.. then you just Nudge back and forth
3 • Set Nudge Value to Division
.. this will in a trice change change the Nudge Value to whatever Note division value is set in the Transport bar
HTH and forgive me if I have given you too much information
..problem is I spent too much time in the Transport Bar in Los Angeles last year drinking with the iSchwartz and other Logic reprobrates... you should join us some time

• Score editor inserting notes.

Hi Everyone
Hope you're all keeping well. Please can some one help to explain how to insert a quaver note on a staff at the beginning of a bar or on the first beat of the bar with a minim on the same beat beneath it, I do know how to use the separation tool but I am having difficulty writing a quaver on the first beat instead I keep getting a crotchet. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it take care.
Tumahawk.

There are two questions here: i) regarding the size of the note, quaver/crotchet etc ... depends on how the Score settings are displayed. Best thing is to read the manual if you want to do this in the Score Editor there are so many ways to do it and you need to get familiar with a couple of regular operations.
i) ie the Song Position Line.. get used to placing this exactly in the bar where you want to insert a note.
ii) Also the Event Editor: if you drag a note from the side of the score editor you need to look at the Event Editor to see exactly where you are placing it.
iii) If you are using a midi keyboard to input the notes, then you need to set up key commands that would make the SPL move by the right increments, ie shift SPL a quaver, a crotchet etc.. and become familiar with the Key Command that shifts the SPL etc
However if you just want to insert a note and drag it to the right size then the best place is the Matrix editor where you can see exactly how long the note length is... though the display of the note also depends on what your score settings are, so you may put in a quaver and if the Score Style show only crotchets, it will display a quaver as a crotchet.
Regarding your second question about putting a minim on the same beat of the bar below a quaver.. you will need to explore the concept of Polyphonic voices and assign the line with the minim to a different midi channel
This may all sound a bit complicated but the more familiar you get with the basics of the Score Editor the easier it will get

• Elements Organizer 8 - some WMV are not displayed properly in the Play Video but are in Play Vide

Hello:
Elements Organizer - some WMV are not displayed properly in the Play Video but are in Play Vide on Full screen. What's the problem? Wrong codec?

Because WMV's can contain a lot of flags, like DRM, they can exhibit odd behavior, indeed.
Usually, AV files will display in their native resolution, i.e. in their set Frame Size/Aspect Ratio and with their set PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), but sometimes those flags are missed, or are altered by other programs.
Remember, WMV's are designed to be streaming delivery-only, and are not intended, or designed to be edited. Most NLE's (Non Linear Editors) will allow them to be edited, but will require extra processing to do so. As is mentioned, WMM is designed around editing that delivery-only format, but most others are not.
There are many other formats/CODEC's, that ARE designed to be edited by the vast majority of NLE's, such as DV-AVI Type II's.
The best workflow is to NOT bring WMV's into the mix, unless one is using WMM exclusively. Converting those to an easily editable format/CODEC will always be the best course of action.
Good luck,
Hunt

• Score Editor bug: syncopating a note disturbs line layout

In the example below, the instrumental part with max 2 bars per line has been created with the Layout Tool, and then the selection saved as a Score Set ( which i hope locks all the page details in place).

I then noticed that the red circled note is not displayed correctly - it should be a dotted eighth note and duly click on it with my Syncopate note command.
This then produces the following effect: it crunches up the bars and disturbs the line layout which was already set, cramming 3 bars onto the line above as in the example below.

Any solutions appreciated/workflow suggestions.. or is this just "..another L8 Score Editor bug.. wasting more of 2009"
PS Any suggestions as how to get the images to display in the post - as opposed to appear a link? cheers

i should be enjoying my holiday but i couldn't help myself...
there are a couple of fixes for this.
first, try cutting the regions somewhere to force a redraw.
second, if no form of cutting or reformatting works, try copy and pasting the midi into a fresh autoload on the intel.
particularly if the file was created pre 7.2. there can be compatibility issues between ppc and intel.

• Note length in Score Editor

This seems like a simple task with a simple solution, but I cannot figure it out.  I am adding notes using the score editor rather than the piano roll and I want to change the rhythm of a certain measure.  For example lets say I have 4 quarter notes in a measure and later on I change my mind and say I want 3 quarter notes and two 8th notes.  Or maybe I want to change the length of a quarter note to a dotted quarter note and then add an 8th note.  Is there an easy way to do this without deleting the entire contents of that measure.  I have tried increasing and decreasing the length/info in the event list, but maybe I am doing it wrong cause nothing changes?  I am new to logic, especially the score editor so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi
There are a few peculiarities when working in the Score Editor.
First, you should familiarise yourself with the "Interpretation" function. This tries to present 'clean' notation by interpreting the MIDI note events position and length. It will 'round up' the note/rest sizes displayed, without affecting any of the MIDI data. With Interpretation ON, changing the length of the note events in the Event List etc. may well not alter the notation.
Second, you need to consider the Score Quantise function, which again does not alter the MIDI note events. In the Score, quantise merely sets the size of the smallest note or rest that will be displayed.
You can adjust the absolute note length by various means, including:
Event List
Event Float
Score:View;Duration Bars
Event parameters in the Score Inspector
Switch to the Piano Roll
etc

• How do you draw a tie of two notes in the score editor window

How do you draw a simple tie in the score editor window of Logic Pro 10 ; two quarter notes together, an eighth up-beat accross a bar line into the next measure etc? I can't find the answer in videos, help manual.  Please give a step by step how to do it.
It's hard to believe that a program like Logic, that has more information than the New York Public Library, does not have a simple solution for tieing notes. Maybe Logic XI will have one, or "Logicians" can speak to Sibelius for a more "note-worthy" way to solving the problem so that the score editor can be more accessible for editing purposes for those that read and write manuscript. Lew Traver

Hi
Ties are generally automatically created as necessary. Simply adjust the length of the note in the Score (using DurationBars or the Inspector), or in the Piano Roll or Event list.

• Some images do not display on E-Bay with FF 11

Running Vista. had no problems with E-bay using FF 10 or lower. some images will not display, and when a image that does show in the category, when selected, it does not display. I am running FF11 on my xp machine with no problems.
every thing on E-bay works with IE

It's not recommended to go back to Firefox 10 due to known security vulnerabilities. It's still available if there's no other solution.
Another standard diagnostic step is to try Firefox's Safe Mode to see whether it is caused by a custom setting or add-on.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."
If the images load correctly, this points to an add-on or custom setting or perhaps a saved password as the problem. A few things to work through.
If the site doesn't load correctly, we would have to consider other factors.
Any luck?
