Some electric piano notes get muted

Question

Hi all: hoping you can help resolve an issue with electric pianos that an upgrade from Mainstage 2.2 to Mainstage 3 did not resolve.
If I pound out an 8th-note rhythm on one key with varying intensity (kind of like Supertramp would do with a chord, but just using one note) about 10% of the notes are muted. In a mix it sounds like I missed the note altogether. The MIDI message shows that they're coming through with good velocity (usually between 90 and 120) but they sound as though the the tine was dampened vs. sounded, leaving just a faint kind of tine sound. Why? How do I get rid of it?
Factors:
It happens more frequently if I'm holding down a bass line when hammering away at the note.
Staccato notes seem to make it occur a little more frequently.
I've varied the number of voices between 20 and 88 but this has no effect.
It seems to occur with all EV88 patches.

I wouldn't think you need to buy Komplete just to get the electric piano instruments from NI.  You can get their Wurly/Rhodes/Clav package, called Vintage Keys as a separate item for $150 or you can buy each of those instruments separately for some reduced price that I didn't bother to check.

As for how NI instruments work with MainStage, I have to admit that I don't actually use any at the moment so I couldn't say for sure, but MS just uses normal AU plugins, just like Logic, and I've certainly never had any issue using Komplete instruments in Logic.  I wouldn't expect any problems unless you are running Mavericks, which is just too new to be stable for software that hasn't been well-tested with it yet.  I do a lot of composition, so justifying the cost of Komplete Ultimate, or whatever it is called these days, was pretty easy.  It's a massive cost savings compared to buying individual instruments and fx from NI.  I've been using it for years.  But if your budget is tight, I'm sure you can get just their 'Mark 1' rhodes package for well less than $100. 
I actually use a midi-fied rhodes as one of my mainstage controllers, so when I'm looking for a rhodes sound, I just raise the fader on that audio channel and feed it into an amp sim in MainStage. The same goes for my organ, which is an XK-3C I use as my other controller, which goes into a NeoVentilator and then into MainStage, so I've always got rhodes and B3 on 2 stereo audio channels in MainStage.  MainStage provides synths, clavs, a lower organ manual (assigned to the rhodes), amps, and effects - so I can't actually speak to which rhodes plugins sound the best or are least buggy.  I hear great things about the VB3 organ plugin from GSi, so perhaps their rhodes plugin is worth looking into as well?  http://www.genuinesoundware.com/?a=showproduct&b=27
And for what it is worth, I was under the impression that the EP plugin that comes with Logic/MainStage is actually a physicially modeled instrument rather than a sampled instrument, though I could definitely be wrong on that point.
