Some files arrive as winmail.dat even when sent as PDF

Some files arrive as winmail.dat and I cannot open them, even though they had been sent as PDF? Any ideas how to fix this?

The best option is to have Outlook & Exchange users edit their settings...

  • RTF Word files arrive as Winmail.dat files and cannot be opened

Hi, I currently have a Bold 9900 and some emails arrive with attachment winmial.dat.  It was send originally as a Word file.  I understand that if sent as html or some other format it will arrive fine - but I cannot ask the senders to swithc the format sent.  Why can;t BB open this file.  Willing to buy app that would fix this.  My main question is - if I upgarde to the new Classic - will the problems continue.  I have asked Blackberry and they told me - the Classic will not have that problem, but I have noticed other CClassic users claim to have same problem.  any help would be apprciated.  tks Pete

only outlook program can open it
most likely you got it from a device that is on exchange and their mail server is still set to send out RTF

  • Something is using up all my data even when I'm not using apps. Help please!

Something is using up my data even when I'm not using any apps. Please help!

I turned off my mobile data and made no phonecalls or sent no text messages but 30 minutes later my phone credit was a euro less even though I had just topped up. I have had problems with my mobile data using up all of my network provider allowance and then the remaining balance on my phone. And this is even though I had not been using it much.

  • How to advoid Pdf attached files turning into winmail.dat file causing incovinience opening them? And why does the phone automatically changes the file???

The first time i opened the mail, the mail loaded the attactment as pdf file and i was able to open it without any problems. But then when i tried to open it again, i watched the phone automatically turned the pdf file into winmail.dat without any of my control. Since then, i werent able to open the file anymore! And this was lucky that i was able to see it as pdf file - all other attachments i have recieved since using my new ip6 all turn into winmail.dat
this is really incovinient and frustrating for work. i cant believe i cannot just open a pdf file as a pdf file on my ip6 in the emails i recieve. I was on ip4 before this and never have anything like this happened.
    Solution needed asap please.
    Thankyou!

  • "open with" menu not showing in safari when having a pdf open. even when tabing the pdf in safari.....

    As the title states....
In default settings when opening a pdf with safari and tabbing the page, there is a black bar (menu) on top of the pdf and it allows you to open in ibooks or open with another app....
I've noticed that with some (company) ipads this black bar is not available.... probably this is a security setting of some sort? But I can't seem to find it anywhere...
anyone any idea what I need to change?
    Thanks a bunch !

Its old code from the menu maker that I havent updated (bought their update).
Save your money.  AllWebMenus are notoriously bad.  You would be much better off replacing what you have now with a good CSS Menu.

  • No XMP files are written for JPGs even when explicitely requested

    Morning all,
I have learned not to trust the LR database too much. Thanks to Dan Tull I had my corrupted file repaired, but with 10,000+ tagged and processed RAWs, I do not feel too safe with the database alone. So I have decided to have XMP files written for all photographs. With 1.0 it worked only for my RAW files, not for my JPGs (have no other types).
So I was happy to find a flag "Write XMPs also for JPGs" in the catalog settings of 1.1. However, whether I check it or uncheck it, no XMP is written for JPGs. Neither when I let LR automatically write XMPs nor when I do it manually from the menu...
Anyone having an idea how to make this setting work?
    Thanks,
    Dirk

The advantage of sidecar files is that they are nondestructive to the original image. So exporting the images is no point.
And that the data written to the JPG contains all the settings is simply not the case. Try it out as follows: get hold of any one JPG in the finder. Import it to Lightroom. Do some strange manipulations on it, crop and go b/w. Then choose "Save metadata to file" from the Metadata menu in Library module. Now go to finder. The JPG is updated indeed. Copy it and import the copy into LR. The new version is the same as the original, no settings applied. And how could it? JPG is a defined format and it does not have room for most of the information that can be put to XMPs. So whatever you might expect from that export will disappoint you should you ever need it ;-)
Anyway, the issue remains: I would not expect LR to write more (e.g. virtual copies) than it does for RAWs, but I would expect it to write an XMP which is what the option offers: "Write develop settings to XMP for JPG...". How can I make it work?

  • My iphone 5 uses cellular data even when in WIFI mode.  I have an iPhone 3 and 4s and both of those appear to be OK.  How do I stop this?

My iPhone 5 on iOS 6 uses 4x to 5x the data that was being used on my iPhone 4s.  The old 4s and 3g (differnt numbers) seem to be OK.  AT&T is getting rich off of the cellular data when in WIFI mode.  How do I stop this?

    Hello there MyAppleHasAWorm,
I was researching what might be causing the excessive data usage on the iPhone 5 and found some info that should help reign in the data. It is from our iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant found here http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/#section_1
Here is section 1 to get you started. I recommend sections 1, 3, and 5 if needed.
    Restart iPhone
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Open File dialog box pops up even when file type is supposed to automatically open

Even though I have selected "Do this automatically for files like this" the dialog still pops up when I click on that file type.
    Thanks

An automatically download action is tied to a specific MIME type that the server send via the HTTP response headers and not to the file extension.<br />
So it is possible that you have created this action for a different (or generic) file type.

  • SUS says client software up to date even when its not

    Hi Everyone,
I configured SUS today on a recently updated Leopard Server (10.5.7) and waited until it downloaded 258 updates. Initially I have turned all the updates on and made them available.
I then went to a workstation that was telling me it was in need of updates, and in terminal did the sudo defaults write command. I then ran Software Update on the workstation and was surprised to see it report that the software was up to date. It showed my internal IP number on the menu bar, so I know it was looking to the internal SUS I had set up.
My first thoughts were that since this was a Leopard machine, it may have downloaded the updates in the background and was therefore not recognizing that they had not yet been installed. I went into Library/Updates and deleted all but index.plist and retried Software Update with the same result. I then went into /Library/Preferences again and deleted the edited com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist, which then rebuilt itself when I launched software update again, this time of course looking to Apple's site rather than to my server. And the 5 required updates showed up again.
I tried this same process on 4 other machines in the network (various types and systems from 10.4.6 to 10.5.5) with similar results -- all gave me feedback that the computers were up to date and no updates were available.
I suppose I should be happy -- no updates to do ever again!!! Can anyone shed light on why the server would be giving me this message when in fact there are a number of updates that I know are needed?
    thanks, Dave

Thanks for the hint re OpenDirectory. I'm sure we'll proceed down that road once we have it initially working.
since I have several similar servers at my locations, I configured another one the same as this, using the IP address as the http URL. In the case of the second setup it worked fine and deployed updates correctly, so it isn't a name resolution issue.
Going back over my first install, though, There was a point during the process where the server was rebooted, and I believe this was before all the updates were downloaded from Apple. After the reboot, I noticed that all the downloads did indeed show as being in place and enabled, which strikes me now as way too quickly compared to the time it took at the second location. So I've concluded that perhaps I have a faulty download and the files are not really there.
Is there any way to confirm, or better yet a way to just wipe them all and force start the download process fresh from Apple?
    thanks folks.
    Dave

  • Z3 Compact using mobile data even when disabled.

    Hey there,
my new z3 compact is connecting to the mobile internet every 3 hours and causing costs! Mobile data is disabled in the setting and in the quick menu. WIFI is available all the time. In the settings it shows 0MB of volume for all apps. Besides the preinstalled apps and widgets I use only some apps wich are well known and can be trusted.
Now how can I see wich app/widget is connecting? And who pays my bills?? It seems I cannot trust my device and I dont like that idea.
Any advice? The Support didnt help much - told me to reset and wait for the next bill to see if it worked...
    Gabriel

If you can't access some live statistics from your mobile operator at least you can try this.
Go into Settings / Power / Battery Usage.
There will be a graph showing battery discharge ratio and list of all apps using power below.
When you click on the app (yes, I know it will be annoying) for some of them there will be "Mobile data sent" and "Mobile data received".
For example in my phone under "Android OS" I have -
CPU total 1 hour 1 minute
    CPU main - 16 seconds
    Keep active - 9m 59s
    Data received - 6,34kB
    Data sent - 14,14 kB
    Wifi received - 484 bytes
    Wifi sent - 531 bytes.
Check every single app on the list. Maybe you will find it there. I suspect Google Play Services. Someone on the forum mentioned that they ignore disabling auto update. Maybe Google messed something with disabling mobile transmission?
There is a one, very hard way to disable accessing mobile network data if you don't need that.
Head over to Settings / More / Cellular Networks / Access points name (APNs).
There will be APN for your data transfers and for MMS. Leave MMS alone but delete data APN. You will be able to configure it again manually but as long as there will be no APN for data transmission your phone will not be able to connect to your operator and cause costs.

It always says that a Web page cannot be opened and to try various things, even though I'm not online or trying to open any page. I can get rid of it by opening the task manager (control, alt, delete), but it comes back in a few minutes. I tried "System Restore" but that's not working, for an unrelated reason. I'd like to stop this annoying reminder. Thanks.

Might be spyware or adware. You could try scanning for that and remove spyware if you find any.
