Some files can't be read in Windows

Hi,
I recently Installed Windows 7 x64 via Bootcamp on an early 2011 Macbook Pro.
I noticed that most of the files are readable from Mac OS X, although there is a specific folder I need for my work, which is not. Do you know why is it only one specific folder? It is a library with 3D materials, Photoshop files etc of about 150 gigs. There are larger folders which I can read in windows but this folder somehow is special for windows not to read.
Any ideas are welcome and helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Zoltan

We must have details
Where you are copying form to? How are you copying? what version of iPhoto? Of the OS?
If you ae trying to move to an external drive verify that the format is Mac OS extended (journaled) and then Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

While transferring several files to the G-Raid, the G-Raid device locks up with the following warnings:   "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in (whatever file) can't be read or written (Error code - 36).” NOt sure this is a G-Raid problem, can anyone help?

This is likely a problem with the drive itself. This error indicates unspecified I/O errors with the drive, which can be from a hardware fault, or a formatting issue. If the drive has valuable data on it, then try connecting it to another PC to get the data off, and then try fully partitioning and formatting the drive with Disk Utility. If this corrects the error then you should be able to use the drive again as it was likely a formatting issue, but if the problem continues then it is likely a hardware fault and the best solution is to be safe and replace the drive.

Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
    Any advice gratefully received!

Well, think about it. This is a Lightroom forum. We are here to answer questions about Lightroom and how to solve problems in Lightroom. Your permissions issue is an operating system issue, not a Lightroom issue. I didn't mean to be sarcastic. But there are plenty of Internet resources that will answer that question.
I just went to Google and typed in "change disk permissions", and there are links for the Mac as well as for Windows listed. There's no sense in me rewriting instructions that are already available.

  • Solution to Boot Camp partition failure due to: "some files can't be moved"

I have had problems getting boot camp to partition my drive, reporting that
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files can't be moved." Solutions offered involve either backing up your entire drive and restoring it (SuperDuper), or defragging with commercial software (iDefrag).
This solution does not require a spare external drive, nor commercial software.
    1) Using Disk Utility, shrink your main drive by the desired windows partition size. Click the Physical Drive, select the Partition tab, and resize the main partition by dragging the corner of the graphical partition representation. Click apply. This operation may take a long time, because it moves all the files at the end of the drive to other places on the drive.
Even though you now have free space at the end of the drive, Boot Camp Assistant will not use it (it wants to resize your main partition).
    2) Now use Disk Utility to expand the main drive to fill the entire disk. This effectively reverses the change you made in step 1, but no files are using the space at the end of the drive anymore. Click Apply. This should go faster than step 1. Close Disk Utility.
    3) Using Boot Camp Assistant, create the Windows partition. Choose a partition size no larger than the amount you shrunk your main partition in step 1. Your Windows partition will finally be created.
Works for me. If it works for you, please spread the word.

That's an excellent idea; but even though Leopard DU does claim that you can do what you did without losing anything, stuff happens, and I would never do what you did without a full backup. If you are running TM, that's enough. But repartitioning a drive without a backup is dangerous.

  • The Finder can't complete the operation because some data can't be read or written. (Error code -36)

Since the upgrade to 10.9 I have the most annoying issue when copying files. I have a secondary drive for media in which I keeo my media on / Samples / Video etc. I keep an exact copy on 2 external drives.
95% I can't copy the the new media across my drives without a few restarts. I get the following:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)
This is not a permissions issue. I've checked every folder down the the exact file it calls on. Everyone has READ & WRITE. If I restart the computer after getting this message it will do a little bit more then get stuck on another folder or file and pop the message.
If I do smaller chuncks, it seems to do better but not all the time.
PLEASE someone, tell me you have seen this before and you have a workaround. This is killing me,
All HD are OS Extended Journaled - No FAT
    MacBook Pro I7
    16GB RAM
    250SSD
    450SSD
    2TD Lacie FW800 External
    is the equation right now
thanks in advance for any help

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • The hard disk can not be split because some files can not be moved

Prerequisites: Computer has had a partition installed in bootcamp with a non-complete Windows XP installation
Started by uninstalling the old windows and restore the partition.
Got error on disk so it was cooked by the Lions recovery and was OK
Trying to re-install Windows, but get the same problems that
"The hard disk can not be split because some files can not be moved"

Problem solved by reducing the size of the windows partition to 40GB (from 50GB).
I had a quit full disk so perhaps that influenced, not i have about 43GB left for mac and 40GB for windows

i have been exporting lightroom web galleries to my iweb site without any problem.  Suddenly I get the error message "finder can't complete the operation because some data can't be read or written" - error code -36 - and the move to the sites folder on my idisk fails..... thoughts?

Try this community: MobileMe on my Mac: MobileMe: Apple Support Communities.
And you can continue to use iWeb for some time to come. The following will explain:
It's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.

  • Why won't my camera raw photos (.CR2) import? Jpeg won't either. Just installed Lightroom 5. Says files can't be read. Please help.

Trying to import photos to Lighroom 5 from my lexar memory card. Says files can't be read. It will not import any file, CR2 or Jpeg. Will someone please help me? I'm not good with complicated lingo either. It has to be simple for me to understand. Thank you in advance.

Are you using a card reader or trying to import via the camera? If importing from the camera then you can expect problems, switch to using a card reader.
If you are already using a card reader then  the card itself may have problems. Copy the contents over to somewhere on your hard drive and try importing from there. Make sure you regularly format your card in the camera. And switch to using a different card to see if the problem continues.

This is very annoying and we need this stopped as we have made no changes to any of the adobe files. Please advise how to do this.

I first tried the version without the deflated stream (so everything uncompressed) against the online repair tool to check/analyse it @ https://www.pdf-tools.com/osa/repair.aspx
And it says no error found, but the reader still want to save it when closing so i still had no clue at this point.
Fortunately, i finally found what was wrong with my generated PDF.
In my xref table, each object reference was not end by a full EOL, i only did put a newline char.
Now i have "carriage return" "newline" which is the full EOL and the reader is happy and close the file silently.
As suspected i did not follow correctly the specs on xref table
Now i'll go and figure what i did wrong with the deflate filter
    Thanks for your help.

  • System indicates"Some memory can'nt be read",please why?

when a image processing program containing a CIN is executed, system will indicate mistakes that some memory can not be read, then shut down my program,The CIN mainly deal with a two-dimension array come from the image pixel data, certainly the input array's size is more than 10*10,but if I use an array which size is less than 10*10 as input ,the program work conrectly,I was so confused, thank for your helping!

Make sure that you are not changing the dimensions of the array inside your CIN. Also, double check your code to make sure it is expecting an array this large. It sounds like you are overstepping your memory bounds when you feed the larger arrays into the CIN.

  • Source of the file can not be read

Hi all ... maybe someone can give me some ideas?
I have a client who is trying to download these video's.  Hunt you might remember we changes them over to the XVID - MPEG4 format.  Well, I'm still not able to get the downloads stable enough so that I feel confident to actually try to make money from their sales.  Anyway, my client tried to download them yesterday and got the following message.
Do you have any ideas as to what is going on and how I might fix this?
    THANKS!!!
    ERROR:
C:\DOCUME l\OWNER\LOCALS l\Temp\ighWBWGG.avi.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read
There is another symbol that I duplicate. It comes after the DOCUME and after LOCALS..It a "wave"

I think the one thing we can be sure of is that this is not a Premiere Elements issue .
C:\Documents and Settings is not a 'user' usable folder in Windows 7. Perhaps it's for backward compatibility.
Neither System nor Administrator has 'ordinary' access to that folder.
I think you should investigate where the link is trying to Download to - I suggest you or your customer select Libraries> Downloads.
    Cheers,
    Neale
