Some Finder Sounds Aren't Working (Trash File and Move File)?

Last night I noticed that *some of the finder sounds* aren't working (trashing and moving a file/folder) on my mac mini. The rest of the finder sounds seem unaffected (emptying the trash, removing an icon from the dock). I tried some solutions online with limited success.
Odd things that are happening:
1) After a reboot, the first time I delete a file or move a folder, the *monitor resets itself*. Kinda like when you change the resolution. My TV loses the feed for a sec and quickly reestablishes it. After this happens, no finder sounds for moving and trashing
2) I heard some people were having this same problem because of coreaudiod.plist files (Library/Preferences/Audio. When I copy the com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist to the desktop these finder sounds return, but just for this file. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10465859
3) I noticed these problems after I started using the Kanex Mini DisplayPort Adapter To HDMI 1080p Video w/ Digital Audio. http://kanexlive.com/products/item.aspx?id=3495 But, I tried switching back to the old setup of a basic minidvd to hdmi and a rca y cable and it made no difference.
4) I also completely did a fresh install and everything worked fine until late in the process after I did a reboot (see point 1). Is it a third party software problem? I installed the HippoRemoteVNC that allows me to take control of the computer with the iphone. I also have installed Plex, Boxee, XBMC, Perian codecs, Hulu desktop, Quicktime 7, and Transmission.
System Specs:
Computer: Mac Mini (Late 2009) - 2.26Ghz, 2GB RAM, 10.6.1
Monitor: Panasonic TH-42PZ700U 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV
Video/Audio Connection: Kanex Mini DisplayPort Adapter To HDMI 1080p Video w/ Digital Audio
Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Go to your /Applications/Utilities folder and run the Audio MIDI Setup application.
Confirm settings there match your expectations.

    First, back up all data and then uninstall "DivX" according to the developer's instructions.
    Then try this:

  • Working with AVCHD and MOV files

    I am just learning on FCP 7 and have very limited experience thus far. I have been using AVCHD files via L&T with no problem and also MOV files simply by importing them. However, when I am using both file types within the same sequence (L&T AVCHD and converting to ProRes and importing MOV), I need to immediately render one of the file types (the one I bring in last). This is also true for any change I make to that particular clip. This would be extremely time inefficient if I were to proceed with this process using several clips from both formats in order to put something together.
    I would appreciate any advice or suggestions in how I can best work with these two file types and by reducing the rendering time (without compromising quality). Is there a way to convert the MOV files to a ProRes? This doesn't seem to be an option with the L&T feature.
    Thanks

    Thank you for the reply, David!
    Sorry, it is an H.264 codec.
    So does this mean that there is really no workaround within FCP to work with the two different formats ....other than rendering each clip I drop into the timeline? I was hoping to avoid having to use another application, but if I really don't have a choice....then perhaps I will try compressor or MPEG streamclip as you suggested. Are there any loss of quality issues when using either of these two programs?
    Thank you

  • ATV doesn't work with mp4 and mov files

    Apple TV doesn't play the mp4 or mov files that are in my iTunes Library.
    ATV plays only m4v video.
    How can I do?
    Thanks,

    Thanks Rudegar and Churchill for your answer and sorry if I answer so late.
    I didn't create such files... I only downloded them from internet...
    I have tried to convert them with "Any video converter" bought on App Store. If I tried to convert the files in a ATV format the software creates a m4v file, but offen the audio is out of sync...

  • Jump between PNG file and Mov file

    We are creating an iPad application, in it we bring 3 different elements to screen using a MP4 video clip, once the movie ends, we load a PNG file and have each of the 3 elements as different touch points. When you click 1 element it opens a related MP4 video clip. Therefore, 3 items open 3 different video clips. The problem is when you touch one of the elements, there is a JUMP between the PNG file and the Video clip (the video player loading time). What can we do to fix this issue so the applicaiton will run seamless without a JUMP.

    Ravi, is there a possible when you added the png to your primary storyline, you accidentally chose the non option in the spatial conform settings?
    If your image is larger than your timeline frame size, what will happen is if you choose the none option, the image will be added at full frame and centered.
    What you need to do is before adding your png's to your timeline, hilight the png and in the inspector make sure FIT is selected.
    Hope that helps

  • The sounds aren't working and I've already checked under settings

    Not sure if I'm doing this right but the sounds aren't working for email or calendar alerts.I've already checked under settings and the sounds are all turned to "on".Any suggestions?

    You have system sounds on mute.   Double tap the home button and swipe to see the left edge of the task bar.  If there is a sound icon there with a line thr it, touch it to toggle the sounds back on.  If the icon looks like the rotation symbol, then flip the small switch next to the volume rocker on the side of the pad.

  • How do I find out the exact path of each and every file that LabVIEW finds and loads into memory for a given top level vi?

    How do I find out the exact path of each and every file that LabVIEW finds and loads into memory for a given top level vi? There is probably a trivial, easy way to get this info, but I have not yet found it!  Thanks..

    Or if you want to grab all the paths programatically, try the attached VI.
    Open the top level that you want all the paths from and close all others, then open the
    attached and run it. It will return an array of all the VIs that the VI
    in question uses, including vi.lib VIs. You can filter these as well if
    you like.

    Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

  • Hi All, I recently bought a Mac Book Pro and transferred all my photos from my hard drive onto the Mac. I realised that there were some folders which didn't have the camera information embedded in the files and these files refuse to open on iPhoto. HELP!!

    Hi All, I recently bought a Mac Book Pro and transferred all my photos from my hard drive onto the Mac. I realised that there were some folders which didn't have the camera information embedded in the files and these files refuse to open on iPhoto. I know that the folders that have the problem were not transferred to the hard drive via a photo transfer application (I have a Canon camera) but I simply copied them out of the photo card and onto my old PC.
    Is there some way I can open these pictures on my Mac? They work fine on a PC.

    Thanks for your reply.
    The files don't open in preview either. In preview I get the error message 'The file "xxxx_xxx.jpg" could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize'. The folders with these un-openable pictures do not even get imported into iPhoto. When I try to import them I get an error message about the files being unreadable.
    The color profile information on the un-openable files is not visible but I see that all the other files from my old drive are RGB.

  • Sound alerts not working in Mail and Ichat apps since upgrade to 10.4.9

    I just noticed my Sound alets not working in Mail and Ichat apps since upgrade to 10.4.9.
    I'm using soundsticks which is playing sounds thru quicktime, itunes, etc but my alert sounds for getting new emails and IM messages is not working. I get the quick "white flash" on the screen instead. I checked the prefs on both apps and it is set to give me the alert sound, I can even test it in the ichat pref when I change the new message alert sound it will play it thru my speakers but when I get a new message in either app it just gives me the white flash.
    I'm read that it can be an issue of not having the balance in the system sound pref set the middle, so I checked that, restarted, all that but still no luck.
    I really like the sound alert features because I can be in another part of my house, turn the sound way up and I'll know when one of my clients is trying to reach me but now I can't do that.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Are "working copies", "project files" and "editing files" the same thing?

    Hello.
    I have just joined the Adobe Forums as a newbie starting right at the bottom. I am still unfamiliar with the terms "working copies", "project files" and "editing files".
    I wonder if someone will help me to know the difference between these terms.
    I have just started the Dreamweaver tutorial, "Creating your first website, Part 1: Set up your site and project files" (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/first_website_pt1.htm).
    The tutorial read, "You've now defined a local site folder for the Check Magazine site. This is where you keep the working copies of web pages on your local computer.".
    Are "working copies", "project files" and "editing files" the same thing?

    Murray *ACP* wrote:
    Why would the raid level make any difference at all?  My data files are all stored on a RAID 4 system and seems to do pretty well.
    Murray *ACP*,
    If I may elaborate on this,
    being completely new to Dreamweaver, my reason for having wondered whether it would be a good idea or a bad idea to have these files on disks that are in RAID 0, was because the term project files in the Dreamweaver Tutorial had me thinking of Premiere Pro project files and the performance increase working with such project files in a RAID 0 setup, which (provided there is backup) is especially beneficial if you have large or complex projects, long time-lines and a tight deadline,
    especially considering that as fill rates of disks go up, and as the number of disk activities on a disk go up, performance goes down, sometimes by 50%, and that the more tracks you have in your project, the more strain is put on your disk, and the more applications you have open, the more your pagefile is used, especially on systems with limited memory.
    Therefore, as RAID 0 offers the best performance increase over a single disk,  I immediately thought of the concept of project files related to Premiere Pro when I came across the term project files in the Dreamweaver Tutorial, being unfamiliar with the definition of project files in Dreamweaver world, hence my need to define project files related to Dreamweaver with reference to disk setup and file management.
    However, if I understand correctly, my conclusion is that RAID 0 is not necessary for Dreamweaver project files, since the local site is not disk intensive, unless you have a huge website to build ?
    Also, if I understand correctly, in website design, you want to minimize local files and use your hosting company to store and retrieve info from ?

  • Does Creative Cloud work with InDesign and linked files?

    Does Creative Cloud work with InDesign and linked files?

    This will work for online storage.
    The preview you will see on the website but will be what you see on your desktop if the the folder was missing. If you want someone else to be able to see a preview online to give comment feedback you could export out a PDF file of the work-in-progress and upload it.
    If you just want to work on the project at different locations it might be easier to zip up everything into a single file and upload it. Then download it onto the computer where you want to work and unzip it.

  • Threads write and move files

    Hi,
    I'm trying to run the codes below with 200 threads using JMeter simulation (TCP connection). Here's my logic:
    - clients connect to a server, server accepts and creates new thread
    - the thread suppose to write the data into a file, but the file must be less than some size, in the case below is 200 bytes
    - when the 200 bytes size limit is reached, the thread needs to move that file into another folder and then create a new file for the data to be written
    - the writing data part is fine, but the moving data is not (many files aren't being moved)
    - i should also mention, i declared the fname to be static variable (to be shared by threads)
    So would anyone please help me like to give me advices if my codes below will work with the scenario above or if i need to approach the problem differently?
    Thanks

    i think 'SSSS' is fine, because it extends the 'SSS' which is a date placeholder. The files that I try to write to are logs file. I actually having trouble to write it, that's why i need to include the 'SSSS'.If you want each thread to have its own file, 'SSSS' may not be good enough. Java is extremely fast at creating objects, and you could easily have 10 threads competing to write to the same temp file. As I said above, if you don't want this, add the Thread ID to your filename. Remember, just because Java time fields allow milliseconds doesn't mean they provide that accuracy. The clock on my home computer actually ticks over about every 15ms.
    That's indeed one of the problem that I'm facing right now. I thought synchronization will take care of this problem.Only if all threads share the same object. As far as I can see, you are synchronizing on a filename created within the thread itself (I'm assuming your original fragment is part of the run() method) so the only synchronization you'd get would be from the I/O itself.
    Yes, I am aware of this fact too, once the code is decent, it'll be moved to unix systemEven so, make sure you clean up your files after you're done with them. It seems that this setup has the potential to create thousands of files, and even a Unix filesystem has its limits.
    My problem is that: there's a tcp server that listens to clients and receive that from it. The data needs to be inserted to the database. But with the volume of clients that connect to the server at the same time, I was thinking it's better to write it to temp file first (with filesize limitation), then to destination folder. There will be another process whose jobs is to parsing the files and move it into database. OK, so I presume each Thread is listening to output from a specific client, with a time limit for waiting (again, this isn't my forte, but I notice you have a 5 second timeout on the socket).
    A few other problems I see with your code:
    1. You've given each thread a limit of 200 bytes; on a decent size disk, the blocksize will be 4K (or even 8), which means that even if you write a file of 200 bytes, it will take up 4K on the disk.
    2. You create a new File and FileWriter object every time you write a chunk of data, which creates a lot of work for the garbage collector. Create them only when you need to open a new file and simply use them until you want to close it and move it. To facilitate this, pass Files between your methods, not names. In fact, for the write method, you can pass the FileWriter.
    3. The regex you use to filter your data includes "\\-#" which is not a valid range. It may well work, but it's always better to put '-' at the end of a metacharacter if it's not part of a range. Also, is a space (' ') the only valid space character you can receive? If, for example, the data could include tabs, you might be better off using '\s' (in the string you'll need "\\s").
    A few other suggestions (I'm assuming that all data read from a particular socket before a timeout comes from a single client):
    1. Make your size limit much bigger and a multiple of 1000 bytes (this should allow for any extra characters that may be added by the operating system). I'd suggest 4,000.
    2. Split the process of reading and writing into two separate threads. Disk I/O is, almost certainly, by far the slowest part of this process and therefore the most likely to block.
    One possibility for (2) is to append your validated data lines to a StringBuffer or StringBuilder and, when your size limit has been reached, copy the contents, pass the copy to a new writer thread, clear your buffer, and continue the process.
    The advantage of this is that your reader thread will only ever be blocked on input, and each writer thread will have a chunk of data that it knows it can put in one file (and probably directly into the 'inbox' directory).
    It still might not be a bad idea to have the "reader" thread create the filenames (don't forget to include the thread ID) and have it keep a "chunk" counter. The filename then becomes date/time plus reader-thread-ID plus chunk#, which ensures they will always be in sequence for your parser.
    Your code might then be something like:
    public class ReaderThread implements Runnable {
       private static final CHUNK_SIZE = 1000;
       private static final DateFormat dateFormat =
               new SimpleDateFormat("yyMMddHHmmssSSSS");
       private final String timeStamp =
               dateFormat.format(new Date());
       // Give your buffer enough extra capacity to complete a line.
       // (this'll just make it run a bit quicker)
       private Stringbuilder data_chunk = new StringBuilder(CHUNK_SIZE + 100);
       private int chunk_counter = 0;
       public void run() {
          // validate your lines as before, and inside your
          // 'if (result.length == 19)' block...
             data_chunk.append(data);
             if (data_chunk.length() >= CHUNK_SIZE)
                handoff(data_chunk);
          // remove all your filename stuff and the synchronized block
       // this is the method that hands off your data "chunk" to the writer thread
       private void handoff(StringBuilder chunk) {
          StringBuilder chunkCopy = new StringBuilder(chunk);
          String outfile = String.format("%s.%d.%7d",
                      timeStamp, this.getId(), ++chunk_count);
          WriterThread w = new WriterThread(chunkCopy, outfile);
          new Thread(w).start();
          chunk.delete(0, chunk.length());
    }This is just a possibility though, and there may be better ways to do it (such as communicating directly with your parser class via a Pipe).
    I'll leave it to you to write the WriterThread if you do decide to try it this way.
