Some fonts tops and bottom are cropped

I've been working on this DVD menu and been having trouble with the fonts I want to use. The tops and bottoms of certain fonts get cropped. Some fonts don't have this issue, of course only the fonts I want to use! haha
Does anyone know of a work around or a solution to this?
Cheers.

Forget the DVI to HDMI. You will either get overscan or bars around the picture. It will probably be slightly blurry and you will end up using the HDMI input for something else later anyways. Since you aren't sending audio out from the mac on that cable just go VGA. Skip the post-processing and don't give yourself a headache with any of the switchrez or other resolution changing applications. The only thing you might be able to do is get into the service menu of your television (read the warranty disclaimer) and adjust the geometry on the HDMI input (some televisions will let you do this). If so read up on it or you can brick your tv.
Good Luck,

  • How to crop a QuickTime movie to delete black top and bottom areas?

How to crop a QuickTime movie? I mean, a ".mov" movie that shows a black area on top and bottom, which I want to delete.
I have tried with iMovie 8.0.5, yet its "Window - Cropping..." to fit, crop and Ken burns does not allow to select the area that I want, which is extra wide.
    Thanks.

How to crop a QuickTime movie? I mean, a ".mov" movie that shows a black area on top and bottom, which I want to delete.
Basically, you have two options. 1) You can use an application like MPEG Streamclip (free) which allows you to reset the top/bottom/left/right screen edges (i.e., crop the active viewing area) and then re-compress the remaining content as a new file (as recommended by QTKirk) or 2) if you have QT Pro, you can simply "mask" the player display which crops the display screen to the desired mask dimension and location within the original area. The advantage of the latter work flow is not having to re-compress the file which can be very time consuming. Since the latter method may seem confusing to some, I have prepared a "quickie" tutorial which may be able to "talk" you through the process:

  • When I open my firefox the page is shifted to the right 1/3 of the way. I can't see the slider bar on the right side of the page, the top and bottom are fine it just the page in the middle that is shifted to the right.

that pretty much says it all above. I have since tried to remove and reinstall firefox from my computer 4 times in the last 2 months and the same thing happenes each time.

This issue can be caused by the Babylon Toolbar 1.1.8 extension

I use Adobe  Elements 12 Organizer on Macbook Pro. When I open Organizer, the window is too large, and the top and bottom are hidden behind the Mac menus so they are not accessible. I can´t reach the top menu, and can´t resize the window, or move it around on the screen.

  • Fixed/Locked Top and Bottom Banner

I am wondering if there is a way to keep my top and bottom
banners in the same place with a window in the middle that would
scroll. (Basically making sure that the top and bottom are in the
same position for every page, but the middle section being able to
scroll when there is more content.) I would really appreciate any
    insight... Thanks!

The only reliable way would be to use frames.
BUT - you will pay a heavy price for this choice. The
    decision to use or
not use frames should be based on a) your site's needs, and
    b) your
willingness to accept the potential problems that frames can
    create for you
as developer and maintainer of the site and for your visitors
    as casual
    users of the site.
I am down on frames because I believe that they create many
    more problems
    than they solve.
Judging from the posts here, and the kinds of problems that
    are described,
the kind of person most likely to elect to use frames is also
    the kind of
person most likely ill-prepared fo solve the ensuing problems
    when they
arise. If you feel a) that you understand the problems and b)
    that you are
prepared to handle them when they occur, and c) that you have
    a need to use
frames, then by all means use them.
As far as I know, the most comprehensive discussions of
    frames and their
potential problems can be found on these two links -

  • Getting flicker at top and bottom of screen - should I crop or zoom in?

Hi all, this is related to another thread I have here but I wanted to ask specifically...what is better...cropping or zooming?
I have just finished editing a long production in 16:9 and have been monitoring the edit process on a 16:9 television.
When the finished product is watched on the 16:9 tv, there is no flicker evidentat either the top or bottom of the screen.
When watched on a 4:3 television in letterbox mode, naturally the top and bottom edges are exposed and this presents some flicker at the top and bottom extremeties on some shots.
I can get rid of this flicker on the edges without re-editing time-consuming scenes by either zooming in a fraction or cropping the finished video top and bottom by a factor of 4 using the motion settings.
I have monitored the cropping method on the 16:9 screen and you cannot see it until it is cropped by a factor of 5, and of course on the 4:3 screen the cropping method will only mean there is slightly more black top and bottom on the letterbox effect.
I guess zooming in to get rid of the flickering will mean the quality of the picture degrades a little so cropping would probably be best.
Is this your opinion as weel?
    Thanks in advance.

I guess zooming in to get rid of the flickering will mean the quality of the picture degrades a little...
Yes, any picture re-sizing degrades the original.
... so cropping would probably be best.
Yes. To avoid losing anything, you could always only crop the shots from the camera that has the flicker (might take a while).

  • Elements 8 [Mac IOS 10.9]:  4 X 6" borderless printing -- top and bottom 1" are cutoff in Portrait and right and left 1 " are cutoff in Landscape

I am using Elements 8 [with a recently installed Mac IOS 10.9] and a new Epson Artisan 1430 printer .  When I print 4" X 6" borderless photos, the top and bottom 1" are now cutoff in Portrait orientation and the right and left 1" are cutoff in Landscape orientation.  I do not have the same problem printing from iPhoto.  Epson tech support says this is not an Epson problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Maybe I should just install Elements 12 and see if this might solve the problem.  Any ideas?

  • Photos sent to Kodak iPhoto print services CROPPED on top and bottom

What is the easiest way to avoid cropping of top and bottom of photos I send to Kodak print service? It is a 1019x2000 size jpeg photo, 320kb

This is a long and skinny photo. You may need to actually put blank space in to get them to keep the entire length of the long side, i.e., If you are printing a 4 x 6, your picture will be 6" on the long side and 3.06" on the short side. If you add .47" of blank space at the top and bottom, you will fill out the entire 4 x 6 inch photo with your 2000 pixel dimension on the long side.
(.47" is an extra 157 pixels top and bottom.)

  • Images used in an iPhoto Slideshow are clipped top and bottom. Why?

After importing images into iPhoto I incorporate them into slideshows. But when I view the results even after removing title and Ken Burns effects, they are clipped on the top and bottom by a signifiant amount. How do I correct this. I have had to add extra areas top and bottom to compensate. I'm using iPhoto version 9.5.1 on the latest Mavericks OS on a mid 2011 iMac.

I tried expanding the canvas (using Photoshop) to a 16 x 9 width-to-height ratio with Black fill. Worked perfectly in iPhoto.
Thanks for the tip about the wrong aspect ratio.

    Hi shldr2thewheel,
it has been a while since we have last spoke, I would like to let you know, I am still working on getting used to the switch from windows to a Mac/Apple system. I do have a new question for you, I did purchase In Design CS5.5 through journeyed.com through Cuyahoga Community College of which I attend as a student, is there a way to purchase an online book through iTunes to learn that as well? Also, you know me, the struggling student, I would also, when and if the book can be purchased through the iTunes, would need to know if you do know of a much easier book for struggling students like myself and at a reasonable price as well for the In Design CS5.5 program. Our campus bookstore had closed early, and, so did the colleges library and our local library here where I do live, so, I cannot go to either place to purchase a book or to take out a book, plus cash funds are low at this moment as well but, I do have money left on the iTunes account to use, if it can be used. So, can it be used, the iTunes money, towards finding a low priced online book? I am in great need of assistance as I have a project due for my one course for this Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
Sincerely in need of help once again,
    Kim

Those are the Header and Footer spaces. You remove them using the Document Inspector. Uncheck the "Headers" and "Footers" checkboxes shown checked here:

  • Preview pdf shows different borders/ top and bottom

in iphoto, made a book, the preview pdf is not matching the book created, in a way that some top and bottom borders are NOT bleeding off the page, however in the iphoto book layout the entire photo is bleeding off the page. any ideas on pdf? I'm wondering if the pdf is showing the trim and bleed crops.

    Hi,
Thanks for the advice. Here's the latest with my 'black borders top and bottom in iMovies' problem:
I found out that if I converted the .VOB files into .DV files (using MPEG Streamclip) instead of converting them to Quicktime files, then when I import these .DV files into iMovies the black borders are no longer there. So it seems like the problem was something to do with Quicktime files in iMovies.
But then there was another problem:
After waiting quite a while for MPEG Streamclip to finish it's work of converting the .VOB files into .DV files, and then waiting a bit longer to import the .DV files into iMovies, I was ready to work on editing the clips. But whenever I added either a fade in or fade out to a clip, I saw that during the time of the fade in or out, the picture was all distorted with thin vertical lines running through the entire picture.
So I had to do more trouble shooting:
I went back to MPEG Streamclip to have a little play around in there. When I made the .DV files before I used the compressor setting DVC Pro 50, so I changed this to the DVC Pro 25. I made a short .DV clip using this compressor and tried it out in iMovies and there was no problem with the vertical line distortion. Just to make sure I made another small .DV clip using DVC Pro 50 as before, imported that into iMovies and again, during the fade in/out effects this distortion came back again. So it seems like I sorted that problem out too.

  • Set top and bottom inset spacing values in Text Frame Options via jsx script

I am looking for a way to set the top and bottom inset spacing values only to 2 points in Text Frame Options via a .jsx scrpt.
For years, I have used a script that sets Preferences, such as:
    with(app.storyPreferences){
        opticalMarginAlignment = false;
        opticalMarginSize = 12;                // pts
I would like to add the code to this same script that would make Top = 0p2 and Bottom 0p2 but leave Left and Right as 0p0.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the full .jsx file that we now use to set preferences.

  • Can you trim top and bottom black from videos?

    Hi
I have a project where I need to make all my video clips the same height.
Some of the clips are in widescreen, and I'd like to trim the black from the top and bottom so that I maximise the height of the footage.
Can this be done in elements, and if not, are there any programs that you can do that in?
Thanks for your time and help.
    Shaun

    John,
Glad that you found it. I use it constantly, as I often animate my Titles with Keyframed Effects, and will just Copy/Paste Attributes to all. Same for Effects that are common to multiple Video (or Audio) Clips.
One caveat: when planning on use it, do one Clip with the complete Effects line-up, then Copy. Select all other Clips that you wish to Paste Attributes to. If you have already added some Effects, beyond the Fixed Effects, you will get multiple instances of that/those Effect(s), i.e. if you have already added Color Correction to the destination Clips, an have Color Correction in your source Clip, you will likely get 2 instances of Color Correction. Plan ahead, so that you do not have to go back and Delete any duplicated Effects.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
