Some Get Info File Data Not Showing Up On Ext Hard Drives

I've stored all my videos on my external firewire harddrives. I notice some of the file information in the Get Info window on these videos is missing after they are transferred to the external harddrive. Last Opened, Dimensions and Duration are blank. If I play the video these fields remain blank. However the same file on my internal harddrive shows this data.
Anyway to get this information to appear in these files on my external hard drives?

What volume format are your external hard drives?
For example, if they're formatted as Windows FAT32 rather than Mac OS Extended (HFS+), it's possible that that type of extended Finder information isn't supported or can't be preserved when copying the file to the drive.

This isn't completely coherent so I am not sure what is wrong other than some (al?) of your tracks have broken links.
If you are browsing through iTunes you are not looking at files you are looking at data entries that point to files, with those locations being incorrect right now.
There isn't a file called iTunes media, there is a folder that should be in your iTunes folder called that.
You mention something about external drives. I presume one is for your Time Machine backup but is the other one used for iTunes? If so, what do you keep there?

IMac 10.10 "Get Info" music is not showing Details, Lyric, Options, Sorting tabs

I am trying to make some new ring tones in Yosemite, iTunes 12.01.26.
I have done this a few times previously with no issue. The problem is when I CMD-I or right click, Get Info, I am not getting any of the tabs you normally would. I get the same view as when looking at a file or hard disc get info. There is no Details, Lyrics, Options, Sorting or File. I can not rename, change album anything. I have re-booted, restarted iTunes and same problem.
I took a grab it but the site is not responding when I click insert image. The image is 640 x 480. Beyond frustrated now!

you are using so many conditions in your program like deleting data related to some plants ,appending somw materials......,so may be some condition is not getting data for that.
also if there is problem in program then we can check but with data you can only check it in debugging mode,where it is going wrong.

ICal Get Info window is not showing up

I installed Leopard today (did an archive and install). All applications seem to be working fine except for one issue with iCal.
I cannot bring up the new "Get Info" window for any events. When I do "Get Info" on an event, the iCal window becomes inactive as if a new window is coming up, but the new window never shows up. Is anyone else seeing the same issue?
Strangely enough, if I do Expose or Spaces then the Get Info window becomes visible. As soon as I come out of Expose or Spaces then it disappears again! Is there any way to troubleshoot this issue or is this a software bug?

Since I do not yet have Leopard, I will speculate about solving your problem.
Very often Tiger ICal display anomalies can be rectified by refreshing your iCal plist file and it should also apply to the Leopard version. This can be accomplished by quitting iCal and dragging the com.apple.iCal.plist file which is located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder to the Desktop. Then log out/in or restart and check iCal for normal behavior. You can delete the iCal plist file on your Desktop if iCal returns to normal behavior.
Let us know what happens.

Some files can not be moved to partition hard drive

"Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again." is the message I receive every time I attempt to partition my hard drive for boot camp. Is there a step-by-step way to do this?

Bean Boy:
When a partition is created the computer moves all files to one area of the current partition so that it can have a clean new partition. In your case it appears that your drive is fragmented (files scattered throughout the drive) and Boot Camp is having issues trying to consolidate them in one area. Try moving any large files to an external drive and see if that helps. Perhaps try making a smaller partition size of Windows under Boot Camp.
If none of the above works then you can take more aggressive measures by choosing one of the following. Please note that I have tried none of the below as I did not experience the issue that you are having.
Option 1 - Click [Here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7311606].
Option 2 - Purchase [iDefrag|http://www.coriolis-systems.com/iDefrag.php] and defragment your HD. This will move all of your files in one area. You can then run boot camp and it should go well from there.
Option 3 - Back up your HD using Time Machine. Boot from Leopard installation disk and format the entire HD (OSx format). Run Boot Camp from Leopard Installation disk and create the Windows Partition and Install Windows. Once that is done then Boot From Leopard Installation disk again and restore the OSx parition with the Leopard backup that you created via Time Machine.

recently, I found this file in my hard drive directory(picture below)(name: mach_kernel)
I not sure what is it, it is an UNIX file, why is it there? should I delete it?
before this I done a clean install, and now I'm moving back all the app by myself restore from time machine also download some from mac app store.
and I try to install all the loop and sound file for the garageband, it keep said close and reopen garageband to download, but it never let me download, it keep show up same message everytime I open it!! is this because the UNIX file problem?

Mac Mini not reading old pc ext hard drive

Have a five year old external hard drive from a previous PC. I connect it to my Mac Mini and the device listing shows it is there, but the letters are not black. They are light grey and i am unable to open the drive when i click on the listing.

Sounds like it is not mounted properly, damaged or perhaps is protected by some sort of windows encryption.
Open Disk Utility and see if you select the drive in the list of drives and then mount it using the blue Mount button. If not then disconnect the drive, restart the Mac Mini and reconnect the External Drive.
Now if it is still not mounting and/or you are unable to manually mount it using Disk Utility, it is either damaged and needs repairs or unencrypting using a windows computer. Of course I could be totally wrong about the windows encryption thing, because I don't use them all that much.

XMP data not showing up in the custom file info panels when upgraded to CC

For several versions of Photoshop, I have been able to use a modified custom file info panel to input, update, and track psd files. With each version of photoshop there are always some changes in the way the object data is handled. The lastest challenge is:
1. XMP data not showing up in the custom file info panels when upgraded CC from CS6.
2. Raw data is not visible in CC in the File info panel.
3. This occurs in new documents where we create the xmp wrapper while the file template is built.
4. When metadata is manually entered into the file, the data is not added to the XMP wrapper when it is recreated on the save.
5. When a file that was created in CS6 is opened that contains the Metadata in the file info template. It is visible. the Raw data is also visible. Once the XMP wrapper is recreated - write and then close. The data is no longer available. the Raw data will not pull up in the file info panel.
Any feedback or a direction will be appreciated.

I have a script that the user runs to input xmp data into a Customized version of the generic file info panel. it is data that is gathered from the user when the psd file is created. once the file is open in photoshop. the information is visible in the File info panel , the raw data, and as a schema addition in the advanced tab.
in CC the nodes and the children of the XMP packet have changed positions. so that the XML -this.XMP.child(0).appendChild(this.createNode())
is no longer the node that can be appended.

Cyndi6858, help is here! We'd be happy to help figure this out. Just to be sure though, the Droid Maxx should not have an SD card. Is this the Droid Razr Maxx? How did you add the music to the device? Are you able to see the files and folders located on the SD card or device when plugged in?

The Finder reports File information. The date and time of the photo are in the Photo's Exif metadata. The Finder has no awareness of this. All photos apps on any system do.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date. The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

Here's the deal. If you ever open a Numbers file with Version 3, the file is converted to Version 3 and can't be opened again by Version 2. Version 2 and Version 3 are undoubtedly both on your machine and they look so similar that you may not realize which you are using. So, there are two steps to getting into trouble.
1. Open a Numbers 2 file with Numbers 3, edit it and Close it.
2. Try to open that file with Version 2. You ill get the error.
To always get it right, find the file you want to open in Finder, Right-Click it and choose Open With... and pick Version 3 from the drop down list.
If you have a file that you prefer to use only in Version 2, always use Open with... Numbers 2.3.

How do i repair or recover data from a corrupt USB external hard drive that does not show up on my Mac desktop or disk utility?
Last night i was using my external hard drive, for some reason the folder just closed and i couldn't find it on my desktop.
After googling solutions, i found it in the disk utilities, i clicked on the 'repair' button many times, but it said the 'error...' message.
So i ejected it to try again, now when i connect the USB external hard drive it doesn't show up on my desktop or disk utilities.
I really just want to either repair or recover the data on it because it literally has everything (documents, work files, photos etc) on it,
I downloaded an application to recover my files but it needs the USB to at least show up.recognise it which mine doesn't.
I know i should've backed it up on another USB, this definitely teaches me for next time to back up all my files.
Are the files lost forever or can i recover them by going to a shop or using a software?

NEF Files Do Not Show up in Lightroom.

I bought a new Nikon D750 yesterday and my raw files do not show up in Adobe Lightroom. The do show up in Photoshop and Bridge. I have creative cloud and it says it is "up to date" Does anyone know how I can get Lightroom to open the files? Thanks. Father Hungry.
