Some GOOD news at last !!!!

Hey guys...aftert all that frustration and trying to make iTunes 7.6 work and no luck I downgraded back to 7.4.3...and after downgrading I noticed a tip that I missed earlier saying to check if I have Smart Card installed...I didn't have it...and after installing it, the error ''drivers are missing or corrupted, iTunes might not be able to communicate wiht iPod'' DISAPPEARED !!! And I can acces the iTunes store faster than ever !!! I'm happy, but I don't have the guts to try and instal the latest version of iTunes again...I'll stay at this version until Apple discovers the actual problem...

5.15 You may move to another iPhone tariff at any time, provided that you may only change tariffs a maximum of once per month. Changing tariffs will not affect your Minimum Period. You will not be able to move to a general O2 Pay Monthly tariff. Where you have notified us you wish to move to an alternative iPhone tariff, unless we advise otherwise, your new tariff will commence at the start of your next billing cycle.
I hope to move from the old £45 > new £35 Tariff (£120 a year saving).
Would be good to hear of any experiences from other UK iPhone users attempting to do this or similar.

At last some good news for UK iPhone users

After the UK users seemingly getting a raw deal from from Apple as of late (no Atv price drop or movies etc), a report on Pocket lint informs us that our tariffs will be moving into line with their non iPhone tariffs in Feb. below is a copy but for more info check it out.
The three current tariffs for iPhone will be brought in line with the minute and text bundles offered on the new tariff structure.
iPhone customers on a £35 per month contract will get three times more minutes and more than double the number of texts than before.
The new £45 iPhone tariff gives the same amount of minutes and texts as the former £55 tariff so customers who were on the £55 tariff can either save £10 per month or take the new £75 tariff with 3000 minutes and 500 texts a month.
All iPhone customers will continue to receive "unlimited" data browsing and access to The Cloud's Wi-Fi hotspots.

Some Good News......

I have to give props to Apple. I have 27" core i7 iMac with a Seagate hard drive. I felt it was a bit noisy, but to be honest it didn't bother me like it did some folks (there is a large thread on this topic).
I can report that my hard drive makes hardly any noise running Lion (other than the normal chruning when opening apps etc.).

Please can someone help me....
For the past few days my iphone5 has been nothing but a nightmare..
Its 3months old I got as a replacement phone from Apple.
It started off by going through the battery quicker than usual.....
Then when I tried to charge it, it would charge to 5% then stop charging, I had to unplug the
charger and reconnect in hopes I will get a full charge.
Then all of a sudden it doesnt wanna charge, I used 3 different chargers that is of my sister #5
My phone is now Offically dead and wont show the charging icon to show its charging...
Ive done a hard reset with the home and off button and also with it charging and also gave the mute button a play...
Im not sure what to do if anyone has any advise please do so and help me out here guys...

99% of the post here are people with problems so i thought I would post some good news. Last week my iPhone got the White Screen of Death!!! I called the 1-800 number. I was told I get a new one mailed to me for $29 or I could go get one at a local Mac Store (that was over 2 hours away) I decided to travel to the store in Atlanta. 2 hours on Saturday. Got back with the new phone and guess what. The WiFi doesn't work!! My wife's phone and daughter's touch finds wifi easy but my new phone, NOTHING!!! I called today and was upset and told them I could NOT drive 2 hours again and can't see why I should pay $29 for a shipping when THEY give me a BROKE phone! They waved the free, sending me a new phone again over night!! They were VERY easy to talk and deal with! I thought for sure I would have the fight for the fee to be waved. They did place a credit hold on my credit card but that is just to make sure I send my phone back. So a BIG thanks to Apple Care!

Many thanks for the kind words. Such things matter far more to each of us, I suspect, than any acknowledgment or not from Apple!
And there are plenty of others who contribute here greatly (too numerous to name) , too, of course and make it a place worth coming back to for us all.

I got it working completely (including tasks). Here's how I did it:
- I first ran SyncClean in Support/PocketMacSyncManager/Additional Tools. You need to click both "Clean SyncServices Files" and "Clean PocketMac Files."
- I did a uninstall using an app called AppDelete (http://reggie.ashworth.googlepages.com/appdelete) to nuke it. This apparently cleans up everything on the Mac side.
- I then used the DataPurge UI to nuke the tasks (after doing another backup of course) as it was hanging on tasks.
- I then did a reinstall.
After doing all of that, It now works. I'm not sure why this works, but it does so that's all I care about.

Some good and bad news...

The bad news... My 15'' MBP (week 22) has a few issues, some more serious than others (kernal issues).
The good news... Apple Australia are replacing it for me.
With all the negative posts on this forum regarding Apple I must say I am very pleased with the level of customer service I recieved from Apple. They were very polite and did not question my request once, actually they suggested a replacement over it being fixed!
One question I do have though is what is happening to all these MBPs that are being returned? I hope they are just not being reimaged and sent out again? I woudl be a little disapointed if I received a refurbished MBP if I payed top dollar for it.
Anyway, congrats to Apple Australia for their excellent customer service.

What are some good applications to download on my new iMac?

I spend time in video and picture editing. I also am a college student and spend a great time researching, staying organized and in social media (Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram). What are some good free apps or essential apps I should download. Also Im looking to spend $9.99 on a good paid app also. Any suggestions would be great!

As you may have heard somewhere, we are currently developing a new liveCD based on Arch + KDE4, which will be released around the end of this year (or sooner or later, as our motto is "when its done")...
Well, developing progresses and we have already reached some important milestones, but now we have a serious problem: We need a logo and a colorscheme for both our "identity" and the website of the project.
We already have a name for the project, but we are seriously lacking some good artwork skills... To give you an impression of our marvellous skills, here is our current mockup of the logo:

We would like to see ideas from you, the beloved Arch community. We dont have any rules regarding the logo etc, and are completely open about this... So maybe some of the more gifted people can take this above approach and create something awesome for us... As all of our tools also have rather esoteric names (shaman, tribe, more to come ...), maybe the wikipedia entry for chakra could be helpful for inspiration...
If you have any ideas, designs, schemes, whatever, dont hesitate to show us them... If there are some submissions, we will choose the one we like the most, and the creator will of course be mentioned on our website as our "creative director" (CEO is already taken by boom1992, sorry ), together with some of our very descriptive Roles (you can choose them!)

600EX-RT--Need some good, quick settings!

Greetings everyone!
     I've got a not-very-difficult-to-solve problem..but perhaps a new situation to which it applies
     I've got two Speedlite 600EX-RT's. I bought the second when the first stopped working. The second one stopped working as well. Sent it in for warranty work and it's fine. So I sent the first one in as well. It's in the shop right now.
     The issue is this: I'm leaving town this coming Tuesday for San Diego to shoot pics at Comic-Con. I'm comfortably certain there's no way that my flash will be reparied and sent back to me here in Alaska by Monday night.
     Now the potential saving grace...the repair office is only 86 miles from San Diego! So there's a possibility I can drive and pick it up in person
     Now the problem (Sorry for the long-windedness): The whole reason I want this flash reparied is to use as a portable off camera flash setup. And Comic-Con is where I really want to do this. But I've never worked with two flashes like this before.
     So...what are the "best" settings to use for this setup? I'm envisioning the on-camera being just the transmitter, no flash. And I'm most comfortable using E-TTL. So, since I will have almost no time to play around with this before Go Time, what settings do I need to use for the on-camera "transmitter" and the off-camera flash?
     The "good" news is that this is just me, not a paying/pro gig, so there's no pressure to perform, apart from my desire to get quality shots for people.
     Thanks a ton in advance for any help you fine folks can provide!
P.S.- I do have the manual...what I'm looking for are "For Dummies" explinations and anything that's not in the manual

Just remember, white balance won't fix the difference between fluorescent and your flash (which is essentially the color of daylight). In bright sun I'd probably just keep the flash on-camera in and hope for the best . If the sun is hitting your subject straight on then you'll need a bare flash shooting straight at them just to try to fill for the sun. In this situation you're actually better off with a reflector and/or scrim (translucent shade held between sun and subject). But both of those require assistants. Direct sun is harsh, not great for shooting.
If the sun isn't directly overhead and you can get your subjects back to the sun, then you can get some real nice shots with just a single fill.   An off-camera flash in a softbox is great, but it has limitations: it might not be strong enough, you have to get your subject to pose up close to the modifier, you lose the freedom of movement with on-camera flash, and umbrellas in outdoor situations tend to blow over, a lot. It's worth a shot if you want to give it a go, but I'd bring sand bags, and be prepared to scrap the whole setup and go on-camera if it doesn't work out. Put a big white bounce card on your flash and let er rip.   If the flash isn't strong enough to match the background with the bounce, then just shoot direct.
Now, if I could find a some decent shaded area, or it's overcast enough, then optimally I'd set up my key in the umbrella (sand bags!) just off to one side and keep my on-camera flash dialed way down (2-3 stops). Actually, using the bounce card on the on-camera will help diffuse the light and you don't need it too strong anyway.   If you had a way to get both flashes off camera I'd go with a standard high-key lighting setup. Lights on each side at 45 degrees, drop one of them 1 stop below the other.
One note about eTTL. The pre-flash can make people blink. It's also inconsistent, moreso when working as fill. If you're going to set up lighting and have people pose, then I'd just shoot in manual. If you're shooting on-camera and trying to be quick, then eTTL is the way to go.

What are some good educational apps?

I am a special ed teacher who will be using an iPad in my classroom next year. I am interested in educational apps and I know there are a lot out there but I don't want to have to weed through them all to find some good ones.

I actually create educational apps for kids in that range. I have a few apps Rhyme-N-Time (rhyming app), Free The Bee (spelling app) and Trojan Math. You can find my apps in the app store by searching for the names or by just doing a search on my LLC, which is 'Levott'. The math one is free and the other two are 50% off in July so only 99 cents.
I also belong to a group called "Parents with Apps", which is kind of the new name for "Mom's With Apps", but I could find you several more apps. I'd bet some of the developers might even get you some discounted rates or promo codes.

Some Positive News on Apple and iPhone Dealings Today

Howdy. I have a good news story from my dealings with Apple and I felt the urge to send some positive news to the masses.
I bought an iPhone 3GS 16gb a month ago and had to make an appt at the Genuis Bar to get some help as battery life was woeful and had a few glitches to report.
The really friendly dude simply gave me a "new" (ie: Replacement) unit and I went away happy. That unit however had someone else's gremlins and did some freaky stuff (such as take a photo of the home screen on its own, rearranged icons literally before my eyes, and shut off and turned back on with reduced life!!).
I returned to the store in Doncaster (Melbourne) today and they provided me a FULL refund of outright costs and Apple plan on an Apple giftcard, then got me a NEW unit, no questions asked and out of the store in 20 minutes all set up and grinning again (coz I seriously love this phone, after being a Nokia and Blakberry Bold fan).
The staff (of 16 in store!!!!), were brilliant and provided Customer Service the way it should be done.
Nice Work Apple.....I tip my hat to you all.

Where can I find some good children's games for cheap?

I just got an old second generation iMac G3 for my son (4). It is running OSX 10.1. I would like to put some games on it for my son to play. Previously he had a PC running Windows 98 and a bunch of kids games like Reader Rabbit and other education yet entertaining programs. However, none of them have Mac install versions on the CD's we got. I am wondering if anyone knows a good place that sells some good quality educational games for children in the <$5 each price range.
I know there is new stuff on Apple.com for $20+ each, and I will probably get some of those, but the problem with the new ones is that they are going to require OSX 10.2.8+ and I do not have and extra copy of that.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
