Some help on graphics card please

Hi,
I have a Mac Pro, the ATI HD2600 XT stopped working around six months ago got it replaced by apple under warranty, now it's stopped working again I'm outside of warranty and didn't get apple care as I wasn't too impressed with the service I got last time.
Looked on the apple website and looked at compatible cards,
Found my model number "ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT" and went looking for it.
Couldn't find this anywhere but found losts of vendors selling their own brand of what seemed to be the same chip.
After a brief look trying to work out what the difference in brand was, seemed to point to build quality.
Looked around found a sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT.
Just tried it and nothing, but it does work with my windows partition. So guessing it's not OS X compatible?
Is there anything I can do Cheers.

There is 1 other thing you can try.
An unknown secret about 2600XT cards is that if there is 1 with EFI for Mac, any number of them can run in OSX off just the one EFI ROM.
So try putting the "dead" Mac 2600 in an unused slot and the Sapphire 2600 in slot 1. If the "dead" mac card runs long enough at boot to load the EFI, you will be able to use the Sapphire in OSX.

Could it be the card its self or can my pc not handle this card and or where would be a good place to start looking for cards for this computer?

If the card did not work in another PC, especially if the other PC had a PSU >=500 Watts and both PCIe power connectors were connected, then the card itself is likely to have issues.

Just recently purchased a HP and everything is great EXCEPT the Graphics Card cannot handle games like Battlefield 4.
Not sure what my options are. Can anyone please advise?
My computer is HP Pavilion, System Model 500-214
    Windows 8.1
Graphics Card currently is AMD Radeon HD 8570D
    Resolution 1680 x 1050 (60hz)
    It's a 1  terabite
Not sure what else you would need to know.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
You will need a graphics card in the range of this NVIDIA GTX 660.  Additionally you need to replace the 300 watt power supply with a 500+ watt power supply such as this Corsair CX600 which is on sale for $45 after rebate.

  • Please help with graphic card

hey guy i have a problem picking a graphics card that is compatible with my computer i have a pavilion a6030n specs are
    Chipset
    GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
    Motherboard
    Manufacturer: ECS
    Motherboard Name: MCP61PM-HM
    HP/Compaq motherboard name: Nettle-GL8E
my psu is only a 300 watt i only want a card to make my desktop like a home theater hd/bluray movies no gaming i want it to support 1080p full hd and have a hdmi output. is there any card like this that i can just install with out upgrading my psu please help thanks

Please help.  I am confused.  I have the same specs as the original poster and am also looking to upgrade my system, but i'm confused.  The video card you recommended appears to be 512MB, however, HP's specs for the motherboard state:
Integrated graphics using nVidia GeForce 6150SE
Up to 256MB (with 512MB or more system memory)
Also supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards*
So, if it says it supports up to 256MB, should i limit my search for a new video card to only ones that have 256MB, or will a 512MB one, like the one you recommened, also work?
    Thanks.

  • Please Help with Graphics Card "Bait & Switch"

I ordered a laptop for using as a field monitor and DVR with OnLocation (DV Rack) with the Quadro FX 2500M graphics card. At the last moment the builder says the Quadro is not available (or he can't afford it) and can only offer the NVidia 7950GTX or dual 7950 GTX SLI. Can anyone please help me decide whether or not to accept either one of these alternatives?
Need to make quick decision to accept or cancel so any help much appreciated.

Workstation cards are not really any help to the NLE user. Neither is SLI. I'd say you'll be fine with a single 7950, if you trust the guy enough to buy from him.

  • Problem with MSI GTX 960 GAMAING 4G graphics card - Please help

So I just bought an MSI GTX 960 GAMING 4G graphics card. My problem is that it seems to randomly decide when it wants to run fine at 1215 MHz, and when it wants to downclock to around 135 MHz. Today for example, I was playing Witcher 3: Game was running fine (~55 FPS) for a few hours because the card was performing at maximum. Then, out of nowehere, I dropped to about 4 FPS. I checked Afterburner, and the core clock went down to 135 MHz, while I was still in game. The card is not overheating during gaming. I have the fans set to 35% speed at all times and the GPU never got hotter than about 50c.
I have the latest nVidia drivers installed. I even tried an earlier set of nVidia drivers and the same things happened. Also yes, it is firmly seated in the PCI-E slot and yes, the power cable is firmly plugged in.
    PC Specs:
    Intel Core i5 Devils Canyon
    Gigabyte GA-Z97N-WIFI mobo
    GSkill Sniper 16GB RAM
MSI GTX 960 GAMING 4G graphics card
    Antec EDGE 550w PSU
I understand these newer graphics cards have power saving settings built in, but I have my nVidia control panel settings to "Prefer maximum performance" and it doesn't seem to help. It seems my card is putting itself into power saver mode at will. I suppose my PSU could be the culprit even though the recommended PSU is only 400w, and I have 550w. Any ideas?

So it turns out I wasn't running the latest BIOS for my motherboard. I updated my BIOS and cleared CMOS. Everything was running fine for a couple hours. I was playing Witcher 3 at full clock and memory speed. GPU temp was hovering around 62 deg c at 60 FPS. Then after a couple hours, the game crashed. Rebooted my computer, and now I am back to the same issue where the card won't run at full speed in a 3D application. Even ran the Valley benchmark tool again and the card didn't increase speed to compensate.
Do I have a defective card? If so I will get it replaced from Newegg.
Also I don't know if I am running the latest vbios. GPU-Z says I have 84.06.14.00.F3
If there is a newer vbios, I can try to update and see if that does anything. I will try anything before returning this to Newegg. My old video card bit the dust and artifacts everywhere, so I don't have a temp replacement.

  • Need Help with graphics card

Today I was told to buy the graphics card GeForce 9800GT for my compaq SR5000. Whin in turn I needed a bigger power supply.  Long story short I am having a problem when I install the video card my computer makes this really loud squeal. Nothing I do is right but I know that it is installed the right way.  Do I have the wrong graphics card. Please anyone can you help me.

Unfortuately, Compaq does not post the Power Supply rating on their website for your unit, but when you open the case, their should be a sticker on the power supply which lists the maximum Wattage for the unit.  An Nvidia 9800 GT requires at least a 400 Watt Power Supply, so if it is anything less than that, you will have problems.
    Other suggestions;
The card should be inserted in the PCI Express slot.  Be sure it is fully seated in the slot.  If necessary, start the computer and enter the system BIOS settings.  You may need to disable the onboard video chipset before the system will "see" your new video card.
As for the noise, make sure you haven't nudged any cables so that they are hitting system case or processor cooling fans.
    Good luck!

  • Help, My Graphics Card is Squeaking!!

Hello, I have just started to hear a very worrying high-frequency squeak coming from my graphics card.
The squeaks vary from extremely high in pitch to fairly high in pitch, am I being paranoid or is there something going wrong?
It definately isn't the fan (fitted with Vf-700Cu) and I have stopped it and the squeaking still happens.
The squeaking only happens at certain times, Never in windows but on 3dMark03, All the time.
At the Very start of 3dMark05 it happens (when loading the things up)
And in the Call of Duty Menu, it happens in alot of menus but not in the actual game.
It is most noticable when I am scrolling through webpages, with my mouse wheel, one scroll = one squeak.
A longer squeak also comes when I minimize something
It is an MSI 6800GT AGP 256mb.
Am I being paranoid or is there something going wrong?

This would be coils not capacitors.
This is not related to overclocking, nor is it related to the power supply. It may have an impact in the intensity...take care in the fact that I stated "MAY."
There was a problem with smooth scrolling in internet explorer when the FX 5900's hit the market but there were other seemingly strange related issues that were never pinned down completely to my recollection.
Now these high frequency squeeks or whines can be coming from the card or anywhere else for that matter. I discovered it was actually coming from my speakers, not my computer. In some other systems it came from somewhere else.
It is a noise leakage of some sort on that bus is what I'm assuming. And it can be very hard to pin down exactly where it's coming from since high frequency noise is evasive. There are a lot of factors involved since your PC is a high freq environment. One little wire or cable can contribute to the perfect environment for that sort of thing to happen. Not to mention the mess outside your computer.
If you are not overclocking, you can try enabling Spread Spectrum in the BIOS.
Also, see if disabling smooth scrolling in Internet Options helps and disable smooth scroll list boxes in the System Properties>Advanced>Performance>Visual Effects

  • I need some help printing to plates please please

Hi all I am brand new to illustrator CS4 as of today I am starting to print church stuff and need to print to polyester plates I have a logo I cannot seem to be able to figure out how to print each plate for CMYK. Please help me as I want to start printing ASAP. I have searched and searched but cannot seem to find info that is straight forward something seems to change from real world to what I read.  Anyone? I would really appreciate some help please

Printing to polyester plates requires an expensive piece of hardware.  It is not a simple "print-out-of-Illustrator" solution.  There may be some opportunities for printing direct to the RIP which then generates the plates.  There are also direct-to-plate digital presses.  You need to do some research on what is available and how much it will cost.  Contact your local offset print shop and ask them if they can help you narrow down the search for a solution.
This assumes you have no platesetter or digitla press on the premises.  If you do, then you need to learn the operating manual for the equipment you have in place.  Not sure what your situation is and what you have to work with other than Illustrator.

  • Need help w/graphic card purchase

I'm using a Asus Essentio PC. When I bought this at BB I told the salesperson that one of the MAIN things I needed the computer to do was play Sims2. When I doubted the ability of the integrated graphics to handle this he told me it would be NO problem.  Well, it's a problem. I'm not super computer literate and looked to the salesperson to be knowledgeable and that was a fail. So now I need to buy a graphics card & power supply (?).  I don't trust that I'll get the help I need, since I didn't when I was making the original purchase.  So, what I have to work with is:  Asus Essentio  Model CM5571 Processor: Pentium Dual Core CPU [email protected], OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Memory: 6144 MB RAM, Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset, Intel 4 series Express Chipset Family. I hope I provided the correct info.  What I can afford is about $200.  Is there anything I can do?

  • Need help with graphics card Hp Pavillion a6530.sc will a 9800GTX or 9800GT work?

Will there be enough room for a new grapihcs card to replace the old one since it's fan has broken and I could use a new Graphics card. I know that the 9500GS is quite small but will there be enough place for a 9800GT/9800GTX if there isn't could you give me the name of a graphics card manufactured by Nvidia that is as powerful as a 9800GT/GTX, and fits in to the pc. Any help will be appreciated!

Well, you are starting out from a fairly low baseline with the integrated graphics. It will not cost much to have a substantial increase if all you want to do is run WoW without error messages. Yes, the 300w power supply is an issue and rules out any card that will require its own power (i.e. needs its own power cord like a hard drive) but there are several mid-grade cards that can run off bus power alone (i.e. just from the pci-e slot itself). Just taking a quick look at newegg.com I see the following:
    GeForce 9400 under $50
    Radeon HD 4650 under $50
    GeForce 9500GT a little over $50
Any of these should get you where you want to be and not require a PS upgrade. The slot you have available is a PCI Express x16 slot so don't look at AGP cards; they will not work. If you want to install the card you mention you need to get a better PSU.

  • Need help upgrading graphics card!

    Hey guys,
I am looking to upgrade the graphics card in my Quad core mac pro that I have had for about a year now.  I am a video professional and run FCS, After Effects, Blender, C4D, Nuke, Mocha and everything in between.   I also run 3 monitors, 2 24' Dell Ultrasharps and one older model flat panel strictly for project panels.  I have been reading about the ATI cards and NVidia cards.  Money is not an issue.
Can someone help and make any recommendations???
    Thanks!

I believe that the ATI 5870 (available at the Apple Online Store, ≈ $450) will work with all but the first generation Mac Pros. It's as crazy as Apple is currently supporting.

  • Help with Graphics card purchase

I'm planning on buying a new graphics card for my creaky old Mac (G4 400 MHz PowerPC, CRT display, running Tiger). Mainly because I do a lot of 3D modelling/rendering work and I think it would improve the experience I have with the apps that I use daily. Apart from not being up to spec for modern games graphics my Mac works pretty darn well (probably because I have a shed-load of RAM), so I'm not planning on getting a new Mac any time soon. I just want to cheaply soup-up this one.
I'm looking at getting either the 'ATI Radeon 9600 Pro - Mac', or possibly the cheaper 'ATI Radeon 9200 Mac Edition'.
After looking online I have seen that users of both have reported some problems. The 9600 has been reported not to work with some displays and the 9200 has been reported to make DVD act really badly.
    So my questions are roughly:
Have these issues been resolved? Have you experienced any problems upgrading your old Mac with these cards? Would these cards make a marked difference to my 3D modelling/rendering apps? What graphics card would you recommend?
    Thanks in advance.

Does your Mac use a AGP (Advanced Graphics Processor) slot?
Based on the 400MHz you mentioned, is is probably a "Gigabit Ethernet" model, which has a 2X AGP slot.
If not, your only option is the ATI Radeon 9200 128 MB PCI Mac Edition card. I hadn't heard about any DVD playback problems with this card. ATI says it will not work with OS 9 in G4 "Digital Audio" and "Gigabit Ethernet" models.
If you do have AGP you definitely want to use it. The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition 256MB AGP works with 2X or 4X AGP models. This card will give the best performance.
The ATI Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition 256MB is for 4X or 8X AGP slots. Even if you do have a 4X AGP slot, this card may not work in your system because of its power consumption. ATI says it is not compatible with "Digital Audio" and "Quicksilver" models. That leaves the MDD (Mirrored Drive Door) as the only G4 model with 4X AGP that it will work in reliably.

  • Sims 3 HELP (video graphics card)

Okay so I play the Sims 3 for around an hour and then all of a sudden the screen freezes up and after a minute or two the game closes and when I try to restart the game a message appears that says:
    Unable to start game.
Device 0 cannot run this title. No supported video graphics card detected. Please check your system hardware.
So apparently I need a video graphics card? Any suggestions on which one?

I have the same problem.  Here's what I posted on the official Sims 3 forum:
When trying to start the game, I get this error message:
    Unable to start game.
Device 0 cannot run this title.
No supported video graphics card detected. Please check your system hardware.
This error just started popping up yesterday. I played all day before I started getting it. I have NVIDIA GeForce 88oo GTS 512s in there, and have no problem playing graphics intensive games. It's pretty funny that I can play Far Cry 2 with the settings maxed out but not Sims 3.
I have seen people mention this error on various other forums around the web, but no one seems to have an answer. I've reinstalled the game, graphics card drivers, and Windows itself trying to fix this. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
I see a few other people have had this problem but haven't seen any answers yet.
