Some icons lost previews after 10.10.3 update

Mostly Photoshop JPEGS and TIFFS. Not all, not all the time. Have tried deleting finder.plist, did not help. Happens on internal drive and external drives. If I do a Get Info, preview shows as generic JPEG or TIFF icon.

You can destroy your system running programs like these.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

I've lost numbers after trying to download update

When I tried to open numbers after attempting to download update a box came up that said unable to purchase numbers at this time. I then found that the app had disappeared from my iPad along with all my work! Can I get it back?

Try closing the App Store, and reset the iPad all over again. Then try again.
Closing apps in iOS 7 works like this. Drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

No video preview after ati firepro driver update

good morning, after uninstalling old drivers I installed the latest firepro drivers 14.301.1019 . I now have no video playback in either preview window. (This is also happening in sony vegas 13.pro)
I have a windows 7 64 bit desk top PC with an ATI firepro V7900 card installed.
I can playback video files in other programs like TMPGENC mastering works, quick time player etc it just appears to be the editing programs that have lost the ability to playback files.
The files are a mixture of HDV files , ciniform avi and ciniform mov,
I tried a reinstall of sony vegas and that made no difference.
I have tried reinstalling the old drivers but it makes no difference.
Has anyone else seen this, or have a solution.

sounds like a driver problem since it happens in both programs. both have an option not to use the gpu for acceleration/rendering. i dont use amd graphics, but when you install is there an option to remove previous settings or clean install? you might need to uninstall all amd software, restart, and then reinstall. once in a while graphics drivers just dont install correctly in windows, and amd's software is known for its problems...

Import - No image previews after 3.1.3 Update

Hello all,
Since the 3.1.3 update I am unable to import my images as usual. In a netshell, when importing from my HDD, the import dialogue will not register any images to select to import. Be this NEF or JPG or TIFF or PSD. After selecting the arrow to the correct folder, it's blank. All other options are togglable.
What I've tried:
1. Repair Aperture Permissions (using Ap3 startup menu)
2. Restart machine
3. Repair disk permissions
4. delete Aperture plist - restart
No change.
On way that works is: File - Import - Import folder as Project. But this way I cannot instantly add meta, change the timezones, etc...
Using: iMac 27" late 2010 i7 Quad, 8gb RAM
I used the system the same day as the update with 3.1.2 and it was working perferctly. Haven't updated the Macbook Pro yet, thankfully.
My normal process is: (and works well for my multiple location and system setup for sport / travel photography)
1. Copy NEF files to HDD (folder)
2. Import to pre-created Project with present Meta
3. Setup Smart Album
4. Rate
5. Quick edit
6. Export
7. Deliver
8. Run to shoot next game on the pitch
I've been using Aperture since v2 first came out, as a sports photographer workflow speed is extreme important, Aperture ticks the good boxes. But at the moment I cannot import in this workflow so it's severly slowing down the process.
Any help is much appreciated, but resinstalling is not a great idea for me as my library is absolutley massive.

Not sure who GNSMITH is but is not myself as the original poster. Maybe he's got crossed posts?
Anyways on the new Library idea.
Simply put, yes the new Library seemed to work fine with importing.
But it snagged again sadly.
1. Opened AP. Tried import to existing library. No go.
2. New TEST library. Import was working
3. Closed and reopened AP. Both libraries seemed to work.
4. Closed and opened AP again. Neither worked.
Only change I did was to make the icon toolbar read to "text only" as I need the library tree space.
5. Deleted PLIST.
6. Opened AP. Both libraries worked fine on import. Did not change anything at all.
7. Repeated 3 times. All worked.
8. Then changed the toolbar to "text only". Removed face detection from Preferences as the only changes.
9. Closed and reopened. Seems to be OK for now.
Not really sure what's going on but right this second the Import works ok.

Lost apps after 4.0.1 update

I synced my phone before installing the new update. My phone had an error while performing the update and I had to restore my phone. Now that it is restored and updated, I am missing a bunch of apps. There are a few that were free when I got them and now you have to pay for them. Is there any way to get these back at all and even better without having to buy them since I had already installed them when they were free?

This happened to me as well, and it's infuriating. Somehow, I was able to go from a 3GS to an iPhone 4 without losing a single thing -- very impressive. Then a stupid, simple upgrade to 4.0.1 wipes out all my apps. I synced right before I upgraded, so I had a perfectly good backup, but for some reason, it didn't restore any apps. I had spent hours organizing them, too, and it'll take me days to go through and figure out which ones I still have on my PC were on the device.
After several attempts of resetting and restoring, it looks as though iTunes has overwritten my good backups with these empty ones. I had to resync all of the apps from my PC to my phone again, and then go through the painful process of reorganizing everything the way I had it.
Hugely frustrating.

Impossible to open mail and preview after 10.8.2 update

Hi,
My mom has a macbook pro very recent, bought a month ago or so,
the preview app wanst working so I have updated the system to 10.8.2
now Mail.app doesn't launch neither preview and when I try top open the pref panes and access mail prefernces or icloud preferences, the pane closes.

EDIT: please remove all items from login items first
Go to
 > System Preferences > Users & Groups | Login Items
Select everything in the list and click the - (minus) button underneath.
Restart the mac and test to see if Preview and Mail.app work as expected.

HT204291 I have followed all the steps to troubleshoot Airplay icon not appearing after loading iOS 7 update and still can not see it. This is frustrating as it was working perfectly befor with my Apple TV.

If you don't see the AirPlay icon in the Control Center:
1. Turn off router, Apple TV and iPad
2. Turn on router and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process
3. Turn on Apple TV and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process
4. Turn on iPad (wait 30 seconds) and test AirPlay

IPhone 3g lost ringtones after loading the latest update. I see one of the many but cannot get the others to sync. Any ideas?

After recent update, cannot find my ringtones. Tried syncing and they don't come back. Only 1 list in the contacts to be selected. Tried to sync the ringtones by themselves and it still won't sync them back to the phone.

These are iTune purchased ringtones.

N9 lost Facebook after v.1.1 update.

I was sent the v.1.1 update for my N9 and followed the prompts , everything was good until I checked Facebook . You touch the Icon it goes to the FB page but just sits there endlessly searching and not finding anything , I have reset a few times and searched all over the web and can not find out anything about what's happened. Every thing has worked perfectly other then FB. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know the reasons behind your loss, but try downloading the app again. Facebook app doesn't have any data saved on your phone other than auto-logging you in. It's a pain, but that's what I'd suggest. Good luck!

Lost file after 10.4.3 update

I just updated to 10.4.3, just before the update I was working on a powerpoint file that I really need. After reboot, the file was gone. The reference to the file is still in the recent items list, I don't see it in the trash and it doesn't showup in spotlight.
I have no idea where the file went, any clues, since I desperately need this file?

If the string you're looking for contains a space or other special character, you need to enclose the string in quotes, or place a backslash before the character. For example, these are valid commands:
locate "my file"

It should be noted that the locate command calls upon a database compiled by the weekly cron task; the information returned will be as of the last time this cron task was run. If this task hasn't been run, the locate command won't work. To tell when the task was last run, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and enter /private/var/log/ as the folder's address; once this folder appears, select the weekly.out file and choose Get Info from the File menu. This file's modification date is the time the task was last run; if this file isn't present, the weekly task hasn't been run on that system.

Lost catalogs after Lightroom 5.6 update

I reluctantly updated Lightroom 5.5 to 5.6 last night and the next time I tried to reopen Lightroom my most recent catalogs were gone. My iMac opened Lightroom with catalogs from a year ago. All of my most recent edited catalogs are MIA. The same thing happened the last time I did the update and I never did find the photos. I have tried relaunching in different versions, using Time Machine to back-up to a day before the upgrade but nothing has retrieved my most recent Lightroom set-up. Please help.

I have just suscribed a creative cloud plan. In order to avoid the non-ending downloading with adobe application manager, I used my previous creative suite master collection trial version (CS6).
Everything works well, I was recognized and the desktop applications works and recognize my AdobeID as valid.
BUT
When I did the last update (with adobe updater) (after 4hours of downloading for 900Mo !!), some icons are missing : After Effetcs, prelude, and Adobe Extended scripts :
I run my creative cloud mainly on win7 pro destop computer.
2nd BUT :
The Adobe Application Manager don't see my installed program. I saw in other posts that it is a known issue.

We really apologize for all the inconvenience which has caused you.
If one or more of your icons are not displaying correctly, or that your icon cache is corrupted, then you might consider rebuilding the icon cache to reset and reload the icon images into the icon cache.
The icon cache is located at the hidden system folder location below:
C:\Users\User-Name\AppData\Local\IconCache.db
In the meanwhile if these steps doesnt resolve your issues you can contact Adobe support by following the link below:

ITunes not playing after 10.6.4 update

Hi,
I just went to play some music in iTunes after running that last update, and nothing happens. I click on the play button and nothing plays. I don't even see the time indicator moving.
I've quit and restart and nothing fixes it. What can I try next? I'm using the latest version: 9.1.1.

I have lost some of my bookshelfs after the last update!

I have lost some of my bookshelfs after the last update and cannot create a new one. How can I fix it? I don't have them on my PC so I can't synchronize them. What can I do? Pretty dissapointed right now!

If the contact were added after the backup was made they will not be in the backup. If your contacts were synced with iCloud they may be there. If so they will apear shortly on your new phone.
