Some images color change in Photoshop

Hi all,
I've read a number of other threads that discuss this or similar issues, but I've not yet found a resolution that works for me.
I'm using the latest Aperture and Photoshop CS 4. I have two or three images (from amongst probably 100+) that, when I export or open in Photoshop, experience a remarkable desaturation particularly in the strongest hues. I cannot for the life of me figure out why it is doing this.
It happens no matter what export colorspace I select. It does not matter whether I have Photoshop set to Convert to Working or Use Embedded space. It doesn't matter whether it's a PSD or a JPEG. If I use Open in External Editor, the newly-created thumbnail and preview are desaturated in Aperture as well. If I select a similar image, taken on the same camera with the same raw format within minutes of the culprit image, even with similarly-intense saturations, it exports fine and the color is preserved.
I've tried rebooting, validating my colorsync profiles are correct, making sure I have the primary monitor selected, disabling proofing views in both apps, etc, etc. The big blinking problem sign is just that it seems to work fine for the vast majority of the rest of the images. Only a small handful seem to exhibit this phenomenon.
Maddening? Fascinating? Frustrating? Maybe some of all of the above. I appeal to the group for your thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks,
Ben

a search for Aperture revealed zero posts on the Apple software product
A search for 'Aperture' shows 103 hits including aperture grille for cathode ray tube monitors, apertures for spectrophotometers (the larger the aperture the larger the sampling area for low dot per inch devices such as inkjets) and a handful on Apple Aperture.
The point in asking the ColorSync Users List is that the people on that list are consultants and developers who have been discussing configuration complexities since the ColorSync Users List started in 1998. Part of the developer discussion has shifted to the list on www.color.org, since the ColorSync Developer List was always thinly trafficked.

  • Image Colors Change in Bridge Preview Window

I edited some images first in Camera Raw and then Photoshop (CS5), all working in sRGB color space, and saved them as JPEGs.  If I select one of these images in the Bridge content pane, minimize the Bridge window, then maximize the Bridge window, the image appears correctly in the Bridge content pane but the colors are incorrect in the Bridge preview pane.  If I resize the view in the content pane, the image colors in the preview pane get corrected within a couple seconds.  Likewise, if I click on another image and then back, the image colors are correct in the preview pane, but if I again minimize then maximize the Bridge window, the image colors in the preview pane are incorrect again.
Windows Explorer displays the image colors correctly.  ZoomBrowserEX (browser software provided with Canon camera) displays the same image (same file) with incorrect colors.  When I upload these JPEGs to my web photohosting site (PictureTrail), the images appear there with incorrect colors.  That is where this issue becomes most problematic because with the colors being off, the images are useless for posting to online forums or classifieds.
It seems that the color in the JPEG is being read differently by different software, and is even being read differently under different circumstances within Photoshop (Bridge).  Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change?  Or some other issue?  Thanks.....

I have a fair understanding of color profiles and color management.  My monitor is a Dell UltraSharp U3011 set to the factory-calibrated sRGB display mode.
What makes me certain that this is not a simple matter of different color management in different applications is that Bridge is displaying the same JPEG file/image in two panes on the screen simultaneously and the colors do not match.  Furthermore, the incorrect colors in the preview pane image change to the correct colors if I resize the thumbnails in the content pane, or click on another image and then back; and the colors in the preview pane go back to incorrect if I minimize then maximize the Bridge window.  Seems to me that there must be something within that JPEG that is being interpreted differently in different circumstances that results in the "two versions" displayed within the same application (Bridge) on the same screen at the same time, and that other apps are interpreting one way or the other.

Exploring a bit further, I've realized that the same color display issue exists with the original JPEGs from my camera (Canon T1i, shooting in sRGB color space).  So it seems the issue did not originate with settings etc. in Photoshop.... but Photoshop (Bridge) IS displaying "two versions" on same screen at same time, and so must be doing something different with the JPEG info in one pane vs. the other.

  • Color change from Photoshop to Keynote

I have corrected the color of some images in Photoshop CS2 using a color calibrated monitor, converted the images to JPEG and imported them into Keynote. It was disappoining and unexpected to see a significant shift in color with a greenish-yellow tint and incresed saturation. Why is this happening? How can I correct or prevent it from happening?

What version of Keynote are you using? Version 2 had some known color issues.

  • Why do pantone colors change in photoshop

my question is, why do the pms colors change do a different pms color after you choose the one you want in photoshop.
for example when i pick the pms color: 138C, then use the eye dropper tool to see what color it is, it switches to 7413C.
    287C switches to 653C.
    it really causes confusion.
how am i supposed to know that the color i pick is really the color its going to print?

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, it is not the one that you need. The Photoshop fora are HERE. Just choose the version/platform that you need and ask again. You will get help.

  • Display color changes when Photoshop opens

    Hi there,
Since recently, whenever I open Photoshop CS6 (13.0.1) or Illustrator CS6 (16.1.0), the display color changes, i.e. as if the display color profile termporarily changes to a different one. Even if I switch to another app, the color change will remain until I quite Photoshop or Illustrator. Using Mac OS 10.8.2.
Does anyone anyone have an idea how to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks!

The color shift happens when the computer changes the graphics card (from Intel HD to Nvidia or AMD). It's a problem of Mac OS X 10.8.x. I found a simple solution that worked (at least for me):
Turn off automatic graphics switching in System Preferences > Energy Saver
    Reboot your computer
Turn automatic graphics switching on again (or leave it off, as you like ...)
It seems that the mac has to start up with the discreet graphics card turned on (Nvidia or AMD).

  • Colors change from Photoshop to DVD SP

So I've been having this problem for a while now.
My problem is that when I make a layered menu in photoshop and import the PSD into DVD SP the color of the picture is different. It seems to crush blacks and turn more magenta. I've found out that it only does this to PSD files and not JPEG's. I've tried using both maximizing compatibility checked and off .
Proof colors is off and I'm working in RGB 8-bit. I've looked around but can't find any solution to this.
    Here is a screen shot:

Left is DVD SP and right is Photoshop.
    Please help!!!!
    Thanks

don't use the NTSC profile, DVDSP must use the generic profile so Photoshop needs to use that also.
Okie dokie. But that apparently didn't help:
Thanks for advice. I changed the color profile. But the images still look different. Here is another
screen shot after the LCD change. It still seems to be a little magenta and is definitely crushing the
blacks. Is this expected when using PSDs in DVDSP?
Changing the color profile of the display does nothing to alter the color space of the source material unless you know how to do that, too; just changes how your display displays the material. Time to evaluate your video using a scope.

  • Color Change Question, Photoshop CS4

Hope I'm clear with this description...
Say, you want to change a background in a given image from a certain blue to a certain yellow and then possibly back again....you're just curious as to which background would look better. Is there a command in Photoshop CS4 which, in effect, makes Photoshop "change color 'A' to color 'B' everywhere it appears in the image"? short of re-painting entire areas with a graphics tablet/mouse?
    Thanks...

Try using Image/Adjustment/Replace Color to do this.

  • Why does my Background image color changes when I place an image ?

    Hi everyone,
I'd like to make a presentation in InDesign. I put a background image into a different layer which I called "Background" and then I create a new layer which I called "Images" and place an image with a transparency layer. When I place this image onto the Images layer color of the image in the Background layer changes. I can not figure out why It changes its color. I'd be grateful to anyone who can help me resolve this problem ?

Edit > Transparency Blend Space... and set it to match the color mode of the background image.

  • Lightroom displays colors differently than Photoshop

Lightroom (and my image previewer - IfranView) display my image colors differently than photoshop.  This is very disturbing (why can't Adobe make this simple!)!
Image in question - see below.  Center image is Photoshop, left is Lr 4 and right is InfranView.
    Colorspace:  AdobeRGB 1998
Image color (exported the TIFF file in Lr, what is shown below):  AdobeRGB 1998
NOTE:  when I export out as sRGB, IfranView displays it correctly (I don't know why, it can't display ProPhoto correctly, but never had a problem with AdobeRGB).  Lightroom looks incorrect when viewing the TIFF, AdobeRGB JPEG and sRGB JPEG.
What is going on??  I've tried this on two computers now and it is the same problem!

The larger file is Adobe RGB and the smaller file is sRGB.  I see no difference in overall tone or color between the two files in LR 3, LR 4, LR 5, PS CS5, PS CS6, PS CC 2014, or Windows Photo Viewer which is color-managed, aside from an almost imperceptible change in the darkest blacks which I'd expect since you're converting AdobeRGB to sRGB at some point.
I can make the Adobe RGB one look like it does at the left of your first screenshot if I Assign Profile: sRGB to it in PS.
Since your monitor appears to be wide-gamut and therefore similar to Adobe RGB, I think the problem you're having is that LR thinks the monitor is sRGB for some reason, perhaps due to your switching the cables from one computer to the other without rebooting and recalibrating.  It's also possible that your profile is stored in the monitor rather than in the computer and one computer understands this and the other doesn't so you're getting double-profiling or no profiling occurring.
It sounds the your only issue is having two computers attached alternatively to one monitor without having a valid profile on each computer for that monitor and aren't restarting each computer to load that profile.  At least that is my analysis given the limited information.
I would conclude that nothing is wrong with LR or PS just the hardware connections and the color management confusion between the two computers, not your confusion, the computers'.

  • Photoshop CS6 save for web some colors change?

I have a picture with large area of color: #fffdfd, when I save it for web (jpg) this color is changed to #fefcfd (in JPG).
I just can not save as JPG with #fffdfd.
(was trying uncheck convert to sRGB, do not embed color profile - always #fffdfd changes to #fefcfd when save for web)
However, color #fefcfd when save for web , does not change.
Why some colors change and some not? Is it a bug ?
    Window7 64bit, Photoshop CS6

Save for Web & Devices will strip some color data from the file.
Browsers aren't color managed. Most file formats on browsers assume they're sRGB. While Photoshop gives you an option of embedding sRGB to the document color space, it also strips off data that is not relevant. This is a common occurence.
PNG-24 on the other hand will give you the exact color match.
Also, Save for W&D, JPG quality matters a lot - The same color at Quality 10,20,30,40,50...100 wil give you different color reproductions on the JPG end output.
If you're concerned that much about an offset of +/- 1 hex value to your RGB colorspace, dont save for web & devices. Do a 'Save As' instead. Then use an image editing/ resizing application such as ResizeMe to resize the quality of your document. This, in most cases will retain colorspace information but just drop the resolution and quality of the image - giving you a lesser filesize.

    What is the problem specifiaclly?
If the images are intended for web use I would recommend converting them to sRGB which could be done with Edit > Convert to Profile or with File > Save for Web, but as including a Save step in Actions and applying them as Batch can sometimes cause problems I would go with regular converting.
You could also try Image Processor Pro.

  • Why does the color change when I open a warm image in Photoshop CS6?

Whenever I open a warm color image in Photoshop CS6, the color of the image automatically changes? Please see the attached screenshots below.
What is the solution to this problem? Please Help.
    I use Windows 7 Ultimate. Photoshop CS6.
Graphics Card: Intel HD Graphics 2000

There is no "problem" to "fix". A raw file is just the data captured by the sensor, not yet an image. To produce a useful image it needs to be processed in a raw converter, either automatically in-camera or with a standalone converter (ACR).
The camera LCD shows you an in-camera processed jpeg, according to the camera manufacturer's idea of how the raw data should be interpreted. There is nothing inherently "correct" about this, and a lot of the original data have been thrown away in the process.
ACR doesn't make any assumptions about how the final image should look. It shows you a neutral starting point, with default settings to preserve as much of the original data as possible. The rest is up to you. You're not supposed to just accept the defaults. The sliders are there for a reason.
You can change the ACR defaults at any time if you come up with settings that are more to your taste.

  • Color change when transferring image from Photoshop to After Effects

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to import a logo from photoshop CS6 to After Effects CS6, however the black color within the image changes to a dark grey when it gets into AE. I noticed on the color picker in PS that it changes to the same grey color that is used as the replacement web safe color. Therefore I'm assuming AE is just converting everything into web safe colors.
Is there something I need to change in AE to allow me to import the image and keep all the original non web safe photoshop colors?
Sorry if this is a very basic question thats been answered before, I couldn't seem to find the answer within these forums.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Spencer

This has nothing to do with web safe. You are making a mess of color management/ color profiles. You have soemthing enabled in PS and since AE by default doesn't use any color managemnt and just assumes plain sRGB, the colors change. There's no easy explanations here, but you have soem reading up to do about color management in general and also specifically how Photoshop corrects for monitor profiles and how to use the Proof Preview to compensate for that or how to establish a workflwo that mimicsa AE's "unmanaged" colorspace.

  • Fireworks CS3-Color changes when importing Photoshop images

    Hello,
I created a background image in Photoshop CS3 but whenever I import it into Fireworks CS3 the color changed. It seems that the saturation level is changing. The hue is close however. I tried using the color palette to type in the exact RGB & Hexadecimal number but it is still not working.

  • ID CS3 - Cannot change image color (imported using "Place")

Hello. I'm using ID CS3, Windows XP, SP3.
I am new to ID CS3, coming from PageMaker 6.5, and when I converted one of our brochures, everything looked great. In fact, we have some images that are tif's (I think this means it's a bitmap). The images are black and white (they are apples). Our print process is Black and a Spot Color, so the apple images are the spot color.
The converted PageMaker6.5 apples are great, they are the spot color, and when I change the spot color, they change too. If I add a new apple image through the Place command, even the exact same file, it imports as black and white, not with the spot color. In PageMaker6.5, this is how it worked, and then I would select the image and then select the spot color. In CS3, when I select the image, and select the color, it either colors the stroke or fill. Obviously I don't want the stroke, and the fill doesn't affect the apple, only the white behind the apple, so I end up with a still black apple on a colored background in the rest of the frame.
    What I want is:
    Background: Paper or None
Apple: Spot Color (at this point, any color would be fine)
I have tried applying styles, object/character/paragraph, I have tried the Object->Image Color Setting as found on Adobe help area, except this option is grayed out. I have tried Place, and while selecting the file, selecting "Show Import Options" but it grays out all options when the pop-up box appears. I can't figure out what else to do.
Also, I can't change the PageMaker6.5 apples to any other color, they are stuck on spot color.
The problem seems to be I am not targeting the black part of the image itself, yet I can not figure out how to do so. The images are made in Photoshop 6. Thank you for any help you can give (I also have an import jpg file, which has the exact problem of any color changes are to the white background (fill) or the stroke. But again I am unable to change the black part of the image).

Thanks, in an odd way it worked...
I dragged like you said. The entire frame became the Spot Color (meaning I could no longer see anything but a large solid block of Green). So I went to Edit->Undo, and it undid the large solid block of green, leaving the previously black image now green, exactly what I wanted. While I don't understand why the Undo command fixed it, I'm happy with the results.
    Thanks.
Edit - I did it again to another apple, this time it worked perfectly without the undo command. The first time, my cursor became a hand. The second time, it stayed an arrow with a small block under it. Regardless of what happened the first time, thanks again.
