Some iPhoto events aren't displayed in finder windows

When trying to upload or attach iPhoto pictures, the finder item labeled iPhoto is missing events from my recently uploaded events and photos. I can see older events and upload files easily. I'm hoping this is a simple fix but does anyone have ideas on how to update this file listing in finder?
I have an iMac with snowleopard, iPhoto 11 and all of the latest software updates for both. I have also rebuilt the data base, repaired permissions etc from the iPhoto repair menu.
Any ideas?  Thanks!

The newer iPhoto version is not setup for accessing the photos via the Finder. the following is from a post by Terence Devlin on accessing photos for use outside of iPhoto.  It's the definitive treatise on the subject.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation   which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3.Show File:
a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
b. On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
The above is how one should access photos for use outside of iPhoto.

  • HT4236 Sync some iPhoto Events to my iPad or iPod

I'm using itunes 11.0.1 and iPhoto 9.2. When i specify to synch a couple of iPhoto events to my ipad or iPod, itunes does sync only some of this events to my mobile device. I already deleted the ipod photo chache, but the results are unfortunatly the same. What goes wrong with my iTunes synchronisation? The SW Version on my ipad 3 is latest Release.
    Thanx for your help

Thanks Ralph. The iTunes version is 11.1.5. There was a facility where you could select various "Events" from a table in iPhoto and sync just them to your iPad. Finding that function is my current problem

  • After installing new HDD, some iPhoto Events/Photos won't display

Problem: I upgraded to 1TB HDD a couple of days ago and tried to use the System Restore from Backup under Disk Utility. It never worked, got to a blue screen and just hung. So I reloaded Snow Leopard and then used Setup Assistant to move Apps/Files/Settings from my Time Machine Backup.
Today I was going through files to see if anything was missing and found a number of Events from 2010 that wouldn't display in iPhoto '08, just dark squares but with the event name underneath.
Rolling the mouse over the empty square displayed the correct number of photos for the event but photos wouldn't display.
Next I "Browsed" the Time Machine Backup (from iPhoto) and the same Events were also empty on Time Machine Backups.
The funny thing is the empty events are scattered meaning I have a full Events from Feb and March 2010 but empty events from Jan, Feb and May 2010. And then when I go into the Empty Events on Time Machine, I can call up the photo number but the photo won't display.
Is there a way to recover these photos? I'm pretty sure there on the TM backup and also on my new HDD.
As a "suspenders/belt" type person, I have the photos backed up on a Windows PC but rather work through this problem first.
iMac 20" 2.4 Ghz Mac OS X (10.6.4) AEBSn AXg

You can enter TM while in iPhoto and do a search for some of the missing photos by file name. When you find a version that appears to have them in exit TM, go to your Pictures folder, reenter TM, go to that version and restore the entire library. I'd keep both your current library and the restored. Then you can check to see if the missing photos are in the restored library.
If neither library have all of the photos but do combined you can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two libraries into a new 3rd library setting the option to not import duplicates. That should get you a complete library.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Load some iphoto events onto macbook air

Having bought a MBA with limited storage I can access all my iphto events via an external hard disk and via home sharing BUT if I want to carry say all the events from 2011/12 on my MBA how can I sort of split or copy part of my library stored on my EHD
    Thnaks

Just importing won't work. You would need to Export from the Library on the External to the Finder and then import.
You need two Libraries, one on the External, one on the Internal
Use iPhoto Library Manager to move the selected Events/ Albums/ Photo between them

  • I use Time Machine to back up my iMac.  How can I copy some iPhoto events from my external hard drive to my MacBook?

I back up my iMac on my external hard drive.  When trying to copy the iPhoto Library onto my MacBook, I get the message "Cannot use TM backup as main library".  I don't even see an option to choose certain Events to copy.  Is there any way I can choose particular Events in iPhoto to copy to my MacBook?  How can I get the photos on my MacBook?

If you're on Leopard or Snow Leopard, or Lion with iPhoto '08 or earlier, see the gray box at the end of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #15.
If not, you cannot restore individual photos; just the entire iPhoto library.  A workaround is to restore it to an alternate location, such as your desktop, then export the selected photos from there.  See the pink box in the same article.

  • Thumbnail images for file icons in finder windows

Is there are way to automatically create thumbnails for images imported into iPhoto that will also appear in finder windows? When I save images in Photoshop, a thumbnail of the image is created and appears as the icon image of the file. However, when I import images from my camera or another storage device into iPhoto, only the generic JPEG icon appears in the finder window.
Is there a shortcut to create thumbnails of image files that will appear in finder windows? Is there a way to batch create these thubmnails?

In any Finder window go View Menu -> Show View Options -> Show Icon Preview.
Are you using this to try and find pics in the Finder? If so, it might help to know that there are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Problem with the Finder Window

Ever since I updated to Mountain Lion, for some reason every time I open a Finder Window nothing shows up in the side pane such as the Applications, Documents, etc. It's just blank. But for some reason every now and then it actually does show up again. I have no idea what is causing this so if anyone has a solution it would be a great help.

While in Finder, I suggest opening Preferences and choosing the Sidebar tab.  See what's there and change it to your liking.  Then report back if the results are inconsistent when you open Finder windows in the future.

  • Can I find an iphoto events in time machine

Using a macbook pro with Lion 10.7 how can I find an iphoto event in time machine hard drive back up.  When I look in picture folder for a back up date I see some individual pictures and an icon for iphoto library.  I thought clicking on that would show me iphoto application with the events just as it looks in current time only with the events of the past date.  It does not.

Not really - you need to restore the iPhoto library then open it with iPhoto - iPhoto can not access TM backups - they have to be restored first

  • IPhoto 09 - some recent events lost after restoring from Time Machine

recently my early-2009 iMac hanged during boot up on the white screen. so i a restore from Time Machine and it works. this freezing occurred twice of the last one week, which i did 2 restore to last backup. then i notice there's an issue with iPhoto 09. i notice some latest events which supposedly been backup during the restore point, appears 'blank'. when i enter Time Machine, i see all previous events but the recent day or two, it just turn out to be black squares, and when i enter the events there weren't any photos but just files with names.
i tested again but loading in a couple of new photos into iPhoto yesterday night, back it up and double check in Time Machine, it is (the new photos) there. about 6-hours later i make a check again (on Time Machine), the photos event became the black square again. this is really a pain for me as i have lost enough photos
i desperately need help on this. anyone?
here a couple of the screenshot from my Time Machine:

    Hello mook,
    So if I understand:
1.) The goal is to restore the iPhoto Library from a point before the issues started happening
2.) When you try to go backwards in Time Machine while inside the iPhoto window you get a blank Library when you get to the date range you want.
    What to do:
    - As you cannot seem to access the iPhoto contents using the iPhoto window I would suggest the following:
1.) Navigate using the Finder to ~/Pictures (or whatever folder you are currently housing your iPhoto Library in)
2.) Rename the current iPhoto Library to something else (Like iPhoto Library Old etc)
3.) While looking at this Pictures window, activate Time Machine and go back in time to a date when YOU ARE SURE iPhoto was working fine and had the images you want
4.) Click on the iPhoto Library in the Time Machine window and click on Restore
-- This will restore the Library from the date in question
-- You will have 2 libraries once the restore is complete. The freshly restored library and the old library. Keep the old library just for safe keeping until such time as you determine you have all the pictures you want. Then you can do whatever you want with it (trash it, etc)
    Hope that helps.

  • I'm using imovie 10.0.3 with OS x Version 10.9.2.  or some reason I can't double click on iphoto events to siadplay the pictures within that event. I've rebuilt my iphoto library, but nothing seems to work.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello All,
Also no answer but am having the same problem.  All my catalogueing via folders is up in smoke and no external HDs (where I would normally directly store raw footage when importing) showing up on the iMovie interface.  It is a pain the arse to go back to the earlier version - why APPLE, pray tell, do you continue to lower expectations user-friendly functions. Shall try the option+open for a library but this too is extremely inconvenient if it works like iPhoto because you have to log out to log in to a new library whereas I just want to be able to see my multiple HDs directly from the iMovie menu and then the folders within folders I have layered in there - to make it easy to FIND STUFF. Wake up Apple, you are NOT meeting your customer's needs or desires.
Thanks to the posters who are helping the rest of us lost in the dark with possible solutions - free fix-its for Apple which they don't deserve.

  • How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • I downloaded 200  photos, an event folder was created, I could see all the photos and was in the process of editing them when I got a message that iPhoto unexpectedly quit.  I cannot find the photos anywhere on my computer now.  Is there anything to do?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
