Some keys are typing alt characters. Help!!

Hey guys,
My Macbook's keyboard has been acting extremely funky this past week. The primary issue deals with the "h" typing "˙" (it doesn't help now that the key is hanging off one hinge. I accidentally chipped one of hinges in my cleaning attempt) and occasionally some keys on typing their respective alt characters. Also, when I type some keys it mutes my speakers. Looking at the virtual keyboard viewer, I press the left option key and the "h" key appears in grey. But when pressing the right option key it does not.
I've checked under "Language & Text" and "Speech" and everything appears to be fine. I have ran the typical Disk Utility functions and SMC reset to no avail. Also, I can't even run a PRAM reset!! It doesn't help that I am no longer under warranty. If anyone can help please let me know!!!!
FYI I am using a MB403LL/A model running on 10.6.8.

It sounds like a hardware issue -- failing keyboard -- to me.

Some Keys are not working on Lenovo G570

Hello all
I am new here, looking for some help regarding my Lenovo G570.
Yesterday, it was working perfectly, I properly shut is down. I have set a BIOS pasword.
Today, when I switch it on, I was unable to type the pasword becasu some keys were not working. However, I managed to loged in with the help of On Screen Keyboard. After analysing it, I came to know that some keys on numpad includeing 0,2 and on the 2nd line(vertical numerical keys) 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,0 are not working. I tried to re-install the OS but I set a BIOS paswoed containing one of the missing keys.
Please let me know whether it is a software problem or should i take my laptop to some repairing shop?

Some keys are not working

I have HP pavilion notebook PC with product number F6C53PA#ACJ serial number [Personal Information Removed] BIOS F.34-10/31/2013 keyboard revision 29.34.
Some keys in my keyboard are not working properly. I couldn't type < and > in microsoft office, on the websites etc.

If the issue is not resolved, after cleaning it, there is likely a software issue. To assist you thoroughly, I require the following information:
1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Locating the Model Number of the Computer
2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
3. Have you installed any new hardware on this computer, before the issue appeared?

I spilled a small amount of liquid on the key board, but I quickly dried it and everything works fine except the keyboard. Some keys are brighter than others, what should I do?

Hope that it is the only problem that you will have with your MBP. Liquids have a habit of quickly migrating and you may or may not have gotten it all. I would take it to an Apple genius bar and have them check it out. That does not mean that your MBP will not suffer a premature death.
As far as the keyboard is concerned, pose that question to the genius bar technician.. I suspect you will be told that the only way to rectify the problem is to install a new one.

While this could be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

Some keys are not working of my laptop lz801pa#

Recently I installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop (hp pavilion dv6 6115tx entertainment notebook) - lz801pa
Then I installed Visual studio 2013. everything was working perfectly then.
I guess when I changed keyboard option in visual studio to C# 2005, after that some of the keys stopped working.
I also reset that option to default, but the issue is still there.
Down & right arrow keys, right arrow key of num pad, 1-5,8,9,0 keys in the first row(up above qwerty keys row) are not working.
I am able to press indivisually tab & alt, but alt+tab combination is not able to use for switching between windows/apps.
Please help me.

Lenovo Notebook Essential B570e2 some keys are not working

hi can you please help me? I have a Lenovo Notebook Essential B570e2 and its driving me crazy. it has got a bunch of problems but right now the most important problem is that some keys of the keyboard are not working. so im writing this all using on-screen keyboard, its very frustrating and annoying. the keyboard just started messing up all in a sudden a few hours ago. i dont think its because of dirt beneath the keys because yesterday i was watching a video online and typing on the keyboard at the same time. and the sound of the video would extend/freeze some times when i was pressing a key. not sure how to describe it. can someone please help me? thank you!

I’m sorry to hear that the Keyboard keys are not working as expected in your B570 Laptop, below are the steps to check the issue in the computer:
Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer. Hold the power button for 10 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
Check if the issue is same in “Safe Mode” – Restart the computer keep tapping “F8” key before the Lenovo Logo appears and select “Safe Mode”.
Also check if any external Keyboard is working as expected with the Laptop if it is working fine, the issue is Hardware related, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance as the issue may be hardware related. I have a hp g61 running windows 7 and suse 11.4. Both of my shift keys are not working..help.

i have tried the following but it didnt help;
                 Hard reset
1. Press and Hold power button till the laptop turns off (5-7 sec approx).
            2. Then unplug the AC adaptor.
            3. Turn the laptop upside down.
            4. Then remove battery.
            5. Then press and hold the power button for 2 minutes (to remove static electricity).
            6. Then, put the battery back in the notebook and plug in AC adaptor and turn on the laptop.
Re-installing battery drivers:
1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
2. Click on + sign beside the Keyboard category.
3. Under the Keyboard category, right-click the Microsoft ps1/ps2 driver, and select Uninstall.
Note: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes.
I tried installing latest Bios software.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Notebook and the shift keys not working correctly. I find that in most cases a keyboard that stops responding or some keys don't work is generally a keyboard is stuck cleaning might be the only option. Here is a document on how to clean the keyboard.
If a small vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment is available, use it to clear the keyboard of debris. A can of compressed air can be used to blow out particles that get in between the keys. I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Some keys are not working, stopped functioning suddenly

Hi All,
I am using a t440s laptop and we can call it brand new (using for 3 months so far). Yesterday suddenly key "o" stopped functioning suddenly and I pressed somehow harder to it and it was back again. After a while yesterday night, suddenly some keys stopped functioning. The keys that are stopped functioning are;
"q w e r u ı o p" (one of them is i, as this is a Turkish keyboard. Let me state that no food or liquid spoiled on it or anything like that. Notebook was staying idle at lock screen on the desk.
Restoring, reverting or reformatting is my last chance as this is a critical notebook for me as I use it for my company.

An arbitrary selection of piano keys are muted. Please help.

Dear All,
My problem is this: When I play midi instruments on my piano, a random set of keys are suddenly muted.
I use Logic Pro 9, and I'm a rookie. Hence, I'm not sure whether this is a bug or merely some extremely weird adjustment I've managed to do. I've checked the piano roll (it works splendidly); I've checked the mute tool; I've tried opening a new project; I've tried "reset all media regions"; I've tried restarting the program; I've tried restarting the computer. Nothing works.
Perhaps I missed something, but I don't know what that would be. This I know: All keys sound on Digital Performer; and after I've restarded Logic, all keys sound - for a few seconds. Then quiet.
After my first two restarts, I received a window, asking me to reset all media regions (which I did to no avail). Perhaps this window identified the error, but it won't come up any longer, so I can't quote the whole thing.
If anyone has any clue, please help me. I'm quite desperate.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
First make sure this is a hardware concern.
Run an Onscreen Keyboard, by Pressing (Windows key + R) then type in OSK then hit enter
Now on your onscreen Keyboard click on the keys that are not working see if they responding with the Onscreen keyboard.
If the keys responded using the Onscreen Keyboard, Then your Keyboard hardware is bad.
Either you call Technical Support to have them repair the unit in / out of warranty repair OR Ask them where to get the part for it and have the keyboard replaced.

Some keys are not working on my Satellite C notebook

since today i have some problems with some keys on my keyboard my Z, \ (left side next to the Z) and my FN key doesnt work (XD i had to copy and paste the Z) but this problem is realy anoying is there a way to fix this?

It is not known to me that single keys repair can be done.
In such case the whole keyboard must be replaced.
I dont know which notebook model and how old it is but it is possible that certain keys are broken.
What you can try is to remove key cap and check if key is dirty and see if there is some contact problem.

Some keys are diabled

I just received my Mac Book Pro, and I was unable to use my trackpad because VoiceOver took over. My computer went to sleep and it's now asking for a password, but when entering my password, several of my keys are disabled, not allowing me to log on. Help!

I shut down my computer and was able to logg back in. I an unable to use the track pad and can't navigate around properly. Can anyone direct me on how to disable using voiceover/having to using keyboard keystrokes and just use the trackpad?
