Some kind of technical problems (like slow data processing)...

Some kind of technical problems (like slow data processing) with Leopard appears during the working in the local network.
OS Snow Leopard 10.6 is installed; including all updates, the computer I currently use is Mac Pro. So I have some kind of technical problems (like slow data processing) with Leopard during the working in the local network. (Windows network).
During the attempt to connect with network sharing (the computer is in the network) automounter process took approximately one minute.
Later on, after the automounter process is finished it’s working quite normally over remote computer, but when you try to automount again, everything starts from the very beginning.
The internet is working very well, it’s connected with domain, and everything is adjusted.
I use to ask our system administrator; maybe it is necessary to activate the some kind of protocol?
The OS Tiger is installed on the second hard disk, and it’s working well.
Maybe someone could help me, I try to find the similar problems, but I could not find them.
Thanks//

A couple of things.
First, thanks for the tips. I was starting to suspect the network might be an issue (bad nic, bad router, something).
But netstat -s was showing an average of about .15% packet loss. For a web server that seems to be a pretty good value so I'm not sure.
I did, however, ask someone else to look at the server because I'd spent the whole week on just server performance and was going out of my mind. This second pair of eyes really helped as he found that the pagefile for the server was set at 2mb!? Still trying to figure out how that happened. But we increased the pagefile to a much better value. There wasn't an immediate change in performance, but over time the server appears to have begun to respond better.
Occasionally I still get these 'lag spikes' but nowhere near what they were and the delay is much smaller as well, which is probably being caused by something else entirely (like bad programming on my part, hah).

  • Google maps have some kind of Java problem, won't load?

There is some kind of problem with Google maps suddenly not loading. I tried Google's fixes, but it's still bad. They say Skype figures into it, but I don't have Skype. This problem started on mine suddenly yesterday. I start to type a location in the box, and a little yellow "loading" box appears at the top, and then NOTHING HAPPENS.
    Anybody know about this?
    Thanks...

Thank you for that input. In my little room here, it's hard to tell which wire or cable is what, even tho I installed this stuff a couple years ago. I have Comcast Broadband, which has been real reliable.
This problem started just yesterday, and I don't THINK it's what you're idea is. I'll wait a while to see what else might happen on this.
    Thank you.

  • File Sharing Problem and slow data transfer

    Hi,
i just receive my MBP a few weeks ago and i wanted to transfer some data with a friend who has a MacBook. I tried to share a folder and it cold not be seen by the MB as guest login. i checked the permission when i add the folder to the file sharing as read only. Second problem i had is more intriguing...finally a i decide to log in as Me with the MB, and then i saw my folder shared. he copy the stuff he need it with an acceptable speed. He shared a folder to me the same way i tried and it works!! but the more frustrating was to see how slow was the transfer from the MB to my MBP. Can find any explication...any suggestion???? please !!

slowness of wireless transfer speeds could have something to do with your access point/wireless router.... if you have bad bars on your airport card then try moving closer to the signal.
also what is that total size of the files you are trying to move to each laptop?
i remember when i transferred a fair amount of MP3's it did take a little bit of time....

  • Some kind of a problem

Hey guys, I was wondering what is wrong with my Macbook Pro. It is a late model fo 2008.
    Ok, here comes the problem:
1st: No sound or any audio coming out from mybook
2nd: My keyboard light is not lighting up (F5 & F6) buttons
3rd: Everytime I restart my macbook it just dosen't automatically restarts, I have to press the option button to choose where to boot from
4th: And I keep having this error showing up after Switching on or Restarting.
    Running 10.8.4.
    Please help.

This is for the audio problem. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and a red light is coming from it, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    3. Boot in safe mode. You don't have to log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears.
    4. Reset the NVRAM.
    5. Reset the SMC.
    6. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    7. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
Resetting the SMC may also restore the keyboard backlighting.
Make sure that the right volume is selected in the Startup Disk preference pane.

  • T500 - some kind of internet problem.

I've had a t500 for the past 2 years and I haven't had a single problem with it (minus the keyboard flex, but that's a different story) until this morning. My wireless connection was working fine until randomly, I stopped being able to load new pages. My computer was still connected to my house's wifi (or so it said), but the internet just wouldn't work. I took it downstairs and plugged it into the router with an ethernet cord, but it still wasnt working. Then, directly into the modem, but still nothing. Keep in mind that through all of this, my computer still claimed it was connected to the network and all that. Every so often, it would change to "connected - no internet access" or "connected - no network access" or something similar. I dont think it's a problem with the router or modem, because all the other machines in my house can connect to the net just fine. On top of everything, I can get the internet to work for about 45 seconds if I restart my machine. Once restarted, my homepage will load, followed by the next page i try to get to, but then after about a minute, it stops again. I'm really at a loss for what to do here, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    hey iseepee,
could you uninstall both the ThinkVantage Access as well as the wireless and wired network drivers from your unit.
let windows install its generic drivers. now try connecting to your connection via a wired and via wireless .
at the same time, i would like to know; the T500 can it connect to a wireless/wired connection outside your home ? maybe at a cafe that provides wireless internet ?

  • Some kind of raid problem

    sh /usr/src/linux-2.6.24.3/arch/x86/boot/install.sh 2.6.24.3 arch/x86/boot/bzImage System.map "/boot"
    Fatal: raid_setup: stat("/dev/hda")
    make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
    make: *** [install] Error 2
I tried today to compile new kernel but got this error after i ran make install.
Of course before that i ran "make menuconfig" then i save it and run "make"," make modules", "make modules_install".
Funny thing is that I dont  use any kind of raid. From reading similar question i have seen that others
got the same problem but they run LILO but i use grub.
    btw I downloaded kernel 2.6.24.3 from www.kernel.org.
Anyone has an solution for this problem?
Any kind of help would be appreciated.

I believe the RAID is created internally to the box itself, not by OS X. If you remove the drive then you will break the RAID. For more information you should contact LaCie tech support as the Apple Discussions do not provide support for third-party products.

  • Some kind of timecode problem... i think

    Hi everyone.
I'm trying to capture about 22 minutes of video to my MacBook Pro. The camera taped with was a JVC HD110. I'm a student, and apparently, another student who checked the camera out tampered with the timecode generator ( i think you can slave the timecode on this camera... not sure).
At any rate, the time code that appears on my JVC GR-HD1 begins at 191:14;07
FCE HD translates that TC to 19:51:14;07. Somewhere down the line, as i attempt to capture, I get an error in FCE HD saying it's reached the end of the tape. But it plays fine on my camcorder. I haven't been able to capture any of the video to my notebook yet.
Anyway, is there any-way around this timecode issue? AND do you think the TC issue is causing this problem in the first place?
    Thanks!
    -Nathan

    Nathan,
in the assumption that you have the latest FCE update (as suggested by Al) and that the unusual tape TC might be an issue, I suggest you to try a different easy setup: DV-PAL DV Converter (or DV-NTSC DV Converter) to bypass all timecode controls by FCE.
This setup works when the source device (usually but not necessarily a A/D converter) does not provide timecode nor controls (play, stop, rewind etc), but requires that you manually control the camera. In addition the captured media will not have the source timecode, thus preventing you from "capturing project" in the future, if needed.
But at least you might be able to capture... worth a try.

  • My iPad built in speakers was making some kind of static clicking noise, should i be worried?

I was on my iPad (iPad 4th Generation) when I started hearing some kind of clicking sound like the sound you hear when someone touches you with static electricity, this happened every time I touched the screen to type. it also happened when I played and paused music (only clicked once for playing and pausing music). Also when I played music it sounded like only the left side of the speaker was playing the music therefore there was no right side of the music, basically it wasn't playing the song in stereo and I could only hear one side of the song. However it stopped when I fiddled with the side volume buttons, now it hasnt happned again, but I'm still worried.

Intermittent power problems are usually a sign of something about to go wrong. Get your machine in to a Genius Bar (or other Authorized Apple Service Provider) to have it checked out. In the meantime go to Disk Utility and check the SMART status. It might tell you that nothing is wrong but it can't hurt to look. A logic board issue could be looming for you. The loud (screeching)  noise usually signals a HD problem. On-again / off-again behavior is not uncommon when something is on its way to dysfunction.

  • Very slow MacBook Pro. Probably some kind of virus.

    Hey guys,
I'm helping a friend of mien to repair her computer. Yesterday she wanted to watch a film online and on one of this sides she even clicked on updating her flash player. Afterwards the Mac didn't work anymore and after a restart continued  very slow and she probably has some kind of virus. Even writing this text takes forever because the computer is so slow.
I've already done a system check with etrecheck and also tried to find the virus with avira. But this you also see in the report.
So It would be great if anyone could help us.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

I have a project shot by RED (4k Footage), want to edit in 2k Sequence in FCP X 10.1.  If I scale up my footage upto 2k in some video clips using Spacial Conform 'Fill' in Inspector , do I face any technical problems ? Sense my ultimate terget is 2k.

    Hi Suny152,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
You shouldn’t have any issues using the Transform tool in the Video Inspector to resize your RED footage from 4K to 2K.  This workflow is described on pages 13-14 of the
RED Workflows with Final Cut Pro X White Paper
    https://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/docs/RED_Workflows_with_Final_Cut_Pro_X.pdf
In the Transform section of the Video inspector, use the Scale slider to adjust the frame size of the selected clips as appropriate for the new project frame size.
These kinds of aesthetic changes don’t degrade image quality, because Final Cut Pro X operates on the original 4K or 5K frame, not on the resized 2K or 1080 frame.
    Cheers!
    Judy
