Some measures in pt, some in cm?

Hi all,
to achieve most accurate layout in my pages documents, I would like to use the metric system for all measures, from font size to page size, and everything else.
Unfortunately, Pages seems to be quite picky about which units it accepts in the various measure entry fields. It doesn't seem to be possible to enter "0.5 cm" in a font size entry field, for example.
Why is this? Technically, I think it should be pretty straightforward to implement the functionality allowing the user to enter measures in whatever unit they like...
Is there a way around this?

*Traditional American point system*
By the (Kasson) Metric Act of 1866 (Public Law 39-183), the US (survey) foot is 1200⁄3937 m. This is 0.0002% more than 304.8 mm, which is the length of the Anglo-Saxon compromise foot of 1959, used below. A typographic foot contains 72 picas or 864 points.
Nelson C. Hawks, in 1879, used a printer’s foot of an Anglo-Saxon foot decreased by 0.375%. Therefore, the traditional ratio 7200⁄7227 (which reduces to 800⁄803) places Hawks’ point at 0.013 837 inch, or about 351.46 µm.
A second definition was proposed whereby there were exactly 996 printer’s points (= 83 picas) in 350 mm, which made the printer’s point about 0.013 848 867 inch ≈ 351.405 622 µm.
Finally, Lawrence Johnson stated in a third definition of printer’s foot that it should be 249⁄250 (99.6%) English foot. This means that the Johnson’s typographical point was 0.01383 inch, and was then converted by the 1959 value to 351.36 µm.
In 1886, the Fifteenth Meeting of the Type Founders Association of the United States approved the so-called Johnson pica be adopted as the official standard. *This makes the traditional American printer’s foot measure 11.952 inches* (303.6 mm), or 303.5808 mm exactly, *giving a point size of approximately 1⁄72.27 of an inch,* or 351.5 µm.
This is the size of the point in the TeX computer typesetting system by Donald Knuth, which predates PostScript slightly. Thus the latter unit is commonly called the TeX point.
Like the French Didot point, the traditional American printer’s point was replaced in the 1980s by the current computer-based DTP point system.
The printers had agreed to the standard earlier than I remembered, but it did take till after the turn of the century before this became the norm. There was a lot of legacy type such as woodblock and individual cast letters which would not have changed.
The invention of the Linotype hot metal system was about concurrent with the 1886 decision and may have forced it, as it required greater alignment in the forms. That I can't verify as it precedes even me, although I can remember the smell and sound of the Linotype when it was demonstrated to me in the back of an old local printers shop.

In fact after updating the software to the latest version I am having more of this... Sometimes the wifi button freezes an I can't even slide it to on / off...
    Thanks

Noooo! Actually I too had d same prob wit my iPhone 4S. When I connect to my wifi network it won't get connected or it wil be grey scaled! I took it to d istore and since I had warranty they replaced my IPhone. It iPad charger has high volt than ur iPhone charger so when u connect wit it, there is a chance where large amount of current passes thru ur iPhone. So for sure it wil damage ur motherboard and its parts! Many said that iOS 6 or 6.0.1 or 6.1 was d reason for tis wifi prob! But apple never made its mistake wit it's software. If and only if u hav hardware prob u wil hav these sort of wifi prob Bluetooth prob! So best way s to replace ur iPhone!

  • Yoga 2 Pro, Etekcity 16Ah power bank and some additional measurements

Hello guys, this would be my short review of Etekcity Wingman external battery I use with y2p. As you know, the y2p battery performance is a little disappointing for a Haswell ultrabook (at least for some), so it's a good idea to have some additional external battery beforehand. After some research I found the interesting candidate, the 16.000 mAh external battery manufactured somewhere in chinese factory (Shenzen?) and then being sold under many different brands (I found at least 5 of them on Amazon). I bought the Etekcity Wingman, as it was the cheapest, for 69$
No links here, but you will find it easily. It has a classy aluminium shell, very good overall build quality, features 5V USB output and additional 12, 16 and 19V outputs with many different plugs. There is no rectangular Lenovo Yoga tip, but in the package you can find the Lenovo X1 big circular plug. So you need an additional converter Cable Adapter from Lenovo, part no. 0B47046 and voila, everything fits.
This external battery can provide up to 19V and as you are aware, y2p needs 20V. But this is not a problem, it's only 5% difference and nothing to be worry about. As to the amperage, the battery can provide max 3A at 19V and y2p original power adapter is rated at 3.25A - but this is not a problem either, as during my actual measurements I never saw the current more than 3A (more about it later).
16.000 mAh for li-po cells 3,7V gives about 59Wh of power capacity and this is important. The internal y2p battery is rated 54Wh, so 'theoretically' the external battery should more than double our y2p working time. Well, theoretically, because: 1. as for chinese products they almost always overrate battery specs 2. there is a limited efficiency for internal voltage conversion inside the battery electronics, so there are some losses (heat).
So, what is the REAL capacity of this thing?
I did a test. I depleted internal y2p battery to 20% and then I plugged in the Etekcity Wingman, set at 19V. It was able to charge the WORKING laptop for 1 hour and 25 minutes and y2p battery charged from 20% to 85% before the Wingman shut down. It was a little warm while working, but not hot at all (aluminium shell dissipates heat very good).
What it means is that this external battery was able to provide about 2/3 (65%) of total internal y2p battery capacity and during that time the laptop was working consuming additional energy from the Wingman (70% brightness, wifi/BT on, some light browsing, nothing demanding). I am estimating that if the y2p was depleted completely and shut down, then the external battery would be able to charge it to about 80-85%. I find this result pretty good.
So if you are able to achieve some 6.5h on internal y2p battery, this external battery gives you another 5h more, for total 11.5h working time out of the socket. Not bad.
I have a laboratory digital power source, so I was able to do some additional interesting measurements (thanks to the cables and adapters):
    1. The Yoga 2 Pro starts charging at about 16.5V voltage level(!) Anything lower - it won't charge, higher - it will (no BIOS warnings whatsoever).
    2. The charging current for non-working laptop is about 1.6A (I did not set quick charge at Energy Manager).
    3. 70% brightness, "daily" power mode, wifi/BT on, keyboard lighting on and doing some lazy internet browsing needs about 470mA of current (averaged, idle is about 415 mA, as each wifi activity creates current jumps). For 20V it gives 9.4 Wh of power consumption and for 54Wh y2p internal battery it gives about 5h 45min of working time. Lets set this situation as a "base" level.
    4. Same as above, but power mode changed to "stable". Yellow turns mustard, but brightness intensity remains at 70%. The current goes down to about 420mA (50mA less!). It gives you additional 40 minutes for a total 6h 25min of working time.
    5. Same as above, but keyboard light is off. About 20mA of savings, + 15 min for a total 6h 40 min
    6. Same as above, airplane mode (wifi/BT off) - another 20mA of savings (not much), but there are no wifi current spikes so it's like idle mode - about 330mA of current consumption, giving about 8h 15min of working (word editing etc.)
    7. Same as above, 50% brightness (still pretty usable) - 305mA for a total 8h 50min of working time.
    8. Same as above, but with 16.000 mAh external battery - well, you figure it out (+80%)
    Happy New Year!

20V/3.25A means that if looking for an external power bank for your y2p the voltage must be exactly 20V and the amperage must be 3.25A or more (3.25 is minimum value). These are perfect values.
But in real world some little deviances are permissible, like 5%. 19V and 3A are examples and I made sure that my external battery rated 19V/3A works good with Yoga 2 Pro. There are more 19V external power banks than 20V models out there and I've chosen my Wingman battery because it was really cheap. But it is always better to find one that meets voltage/amperage ratings perfectly.
The Energizer XP18000 would be a perfect choice, because it can provide 20V/3.5A. But I dont know if the Lenovo plug is inside the package. And it's expensive.
The "big circular plug" is 7.9 x 5.4 x 0.9mm plug for some other Lenovo machines, like Carbon X1. I never found an external power bank with "rectangular" y2p plug anyway.

  • I'm trying to set up a DAQ assist just to measure some voltage, how do i get the graph to start from 0 (time) every time I press run

    Hi all,
I am trying to set up a simple DAQ assist to measure some voltages (currently a 9 volt battery to aid set up), when choosing to use a waveform chart to log the voltages the graph doesnt start from 0 (time seconds) how do I do this and get it to reset every time I press run or even stop.
What I want to see at the end is a chart for the full lenght of the test showing voltage against time in seconds.
    Any ideas peeps
    many thanks
    Shane

    Hi Shane,
    Look at this VI
Here, I clear the chart before running the VI, using a 'history data' property node ( i pass an empty array to clear it)
In effect, each time you run the VI, the chart will begin at 0:00
    Hope this helps

Let's look at thread thread 4, I can see from -L result that thread 4 occupies 3.8% CPU time. But in -mL result shows that thread 4 user part only take 28% time and 72% is waiting for locks.
My question is, is the "waitig for locks" also calculated into CPU load? That's to say, if the 3.8% CPU load includes lock time, is that means the real processing time is 3.8%*28%? or the 3.8% CPU load not includes lock time, So, the 3.8% CPU load is the real cost of this thread (which is 28% user processing). I wish my explanation will not mess you :)
For my colleagues have many arguments on this, but no one could be sure. So I ask the experts here to seek the answers.
    many many thanks in advance
    Cheers

#1. The first display you have (without the -m) is not an immediate display. The CPU figures are long-term averages, so they can lie considerably.
Take an otherwise idle machine and run a CPU intensive program. It will take 100% of one CPU immediately, but 'top' and 'prstat' will take many seconds to reflect that.
#2. Whether 'waiting on a lock' takes CPU time probably depends on how it's wating. Solaris has adaptive locks, so sometimes the wait will take CPU time and other times it sleeps. (Going to sleep and waking up again has an overhead associated with it. So if the lock is going to release "quickly", then it makes sense to just spin on the CPU and do nothing for a few cycles until the lock is released. However if it's going to take "a while" for the lock to release, then it's better to release the CPU and let other processes have it while we wait for the lock.)
In most circumstances (and almost certainly in your example) the processes are sleeping while waiting for the lock. However there might be other situations where that is not true.

  • Some wire connection problem for SCB-68 usage in measuring voltage

I am using FPGA 7831R along with SCB-68 to measure some voltage from my monitor terminal from my motor. When I measure the voltage between the monotor output and GND using a multi-meter the measurement is very reasonable and it can be changed when motor speed is changed. However, When I use FPGA input function to measure the monitor output(corresponding AI0 on SCB-68), the number displayed on the scope is always 10. The displayed value from GND is also 10(corresponding AI1 on SCB-68), so when I substract  AI0 from AI1 the value is zero. Did I do something wrong in wire connection.
Should I connect the AIGND terminal to somewhere or leaving it floating.

    Hi shuishen1983,
What are the connections that you have made for this measurement?  What kind of signal is it?  Are you trying to do a differential or single-ended measurement?  In either case, you should have a look at this wiring guide.

I am using Nokia 5233 . I have installed this Application. Earlier i am using Nokia Energy Profiler. But after installing Nokia Battery Monitor. Some modules of Energy Profiler not working properly. An Error Message Flashes while using Energy Profiler "All Measurements are not possible. Channel is reserve by Another Application". This occurs when i press start in Energy Profiler Application. Due to this i can't measure Signal Strength of my Operator.
Now i have Uninstalled Battery Monitor & this Energy Profiler Application then switched off phone. Then reinstalled Energy Profiler Application. But problem remains the same.. Can any one suggest solution???

    Hi,
Well, it seems that it is possible to fix it, I was also annoyed about  this conflict between Energy Profiler and Nokia Battery Monitor apps. Basically Nokia battery monitor installs 2 additional apps, the NBM installer and NBM service, that actually runs even if Nokia Battery monitor is un-installed. As the NBM service reserves the measurements channels, Energy profile cannot access handset resources. You have to un-install also NBM installer and NBM service from Application manager, and afterwards Energy profiler re-gains entire functionality. I did and works 100%.
Another solution would be to stop NBM service temporary when EP desired to be used, not very friendly solution, but not impossible.
    Good luck.

This depends on your CVI version... the full development version includes the advanced math library, which provides functions such as PulseMeas to evaluate waveforms.

  • How to calculate average if some of measure values are 0

    Hi
I created a webI report on top of a Bex query, I have a more than 10 different measure in WebI report column on which i need to calculate average.
If I  use the Average function provided with in WebI report it is calculating average for the measures which are having 0  values too, but i need to calculate average on a column only for those values which are not 0
Ex:  Measure Quantity has values in the report like
    100
    100
    0
    100
    100
Average function is calculating as 400/5
but I need 400/4, because one of the value is 0, so i need to avoid that count which is zero and should divide it by 4 but not 5.
One way is to custom create measure for all measures and make a if else condition and divided by that custom measure, but is there any other procedure?

    i hope this can help
    =Average([myMeasure]) Where ([myMesyre] <> 0)
    good luck

  • Measure the a song and get back some value to present this song

I would like use the labview to play a song, and the program can measure the sound level and output the value to present this song. Can i use LabView to do that? Is there any example similar with my application?

    HK,
Yes, you can use LabVIEW to do this. In fact, there are 12 shipping examples that use the sound VIs in LabVIEW 6.1. One of them is a wav player. This, and parts of other examples will be helpful for your application.

  • I have an SCXI-1531,1126,1120D (with 1327) connected to PCI-6052E. How can I measure an ICP force sensor with some/all of this?

As I understand it, I may only need to use the 1531. Although it says it is used for accelerometers, it sounds like the techincal specifications of the card are adequate. I will be measuring in the range of 30 Hz with force sensors. The sensors are made by PCB Piezoelectronics, model 201B02. This equipment was somewhat inhereted, so I don't really know what of it I must use, or how. Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Dave,
It appears that your force sensor is compatible with the SCXI-1531. This module supports all Integrated Electronic Piezoelectric (IEPE) sensors. Thus, it is not limited to accelerometers. I examined the data sheet for your sensor, and it indicates that a Constant Current Excitation of 2 to 20 mA is required. The SCXI-1531 provides a constant current excitation of 4 mA. In the same way, it appears that the other specifications of your sensor are compatible with the SCXI-1531.
    Good luck with your application.
