Some .mov files wont work in quicktime player(10.2) and itunes 11.

Hi,i have quicktime player version 10.2 on my os x mountain lion (10.8.2).i am using macbook pro.the problem is i cant play some .mov files on quicktime and itunes 11.i can play this files with other media players such as vlc and quicktime player 7.My real intention was to create a playlist which includes some .mov formatted files on my itunes's sidebar.i have imported some files with the same format to the itunes without any problem but i cant these files.i even cant see these files in finder's preview.and also,i have tried to open this files in my wife's macbook pro, with os x 10.7.5,it opened and played well.
when i try to open these files in quicktime 10.2,the quicktime windows pop ups at the same time.it's trying to open and play files but cant.

Hi,when i use contextual menu's " get info " on .mov file, these things are written:
Dimensions:880x660
Codecs:Sorenson Video 3,MPEG Layer 3,PNG.
While I personally would like to know if the PNG track is being used for the display of a PNG image in the background or foreground or for Motion-PNG video, it probably makes no playback difference here... (I.e., if you have QT 7 Pro installed, it would be nice to get a look at the "Properties" window.) However, if you regularly export to "legacy" codecs like Sorenson or Motion-PNG, then you will need to re-enable your legacy audio and/or video codecs which are, by default, disabled for export use under Mountain Lion.
Basically, this looks like a legacy file (i.e., Sorenson/H.263 video with MP3 audio is a common FLV file codec combination). Since legacy codec support is, in general, being dropped from QT, I would normally recommend keeping both the Perian codec component package and the QT 7 player installed to handle older content which may or may not play in the QT X player any longer.
If these feedback is not enough, can u pls suggest how i can get more information about compression type and codec component of those files ?
If a file will not open in any media player, then the Finder's "Get Info" may provide the most basic information. If a file opens in a media player, then the best thing is to use that app's media information window (window may be called Inspector, Media Info, Clip Info, etc.) to provide additional information. One handy, independent, dedicated utility gor general use would be the free MediaInfo app which can be downloaded from the internet. Since most of my video content targets QT, iTunes, iPod, iPhone, iPad, and TV use, I normally prefer opening files in QT 7 Pro and examining the content as depicted in both the "Inspector" and "Properties" windows as depicted below:
And also,is there any way to see which codec components i have in my quicktime player ?
Apple "Pro" Editing and third-party add-on codec compnents are normally stored for global use in the "~/Library/Quicktime" folder. Here is the configuration for my system:
System, add-on AppleProResDecoder, and older QT 7 MPEG-2 Playback Component are all stored for blobal use in the "~/System/Library/QuickTime" folder as seen here:
Codec components can also be installed in similar folders for "local user" use in each user account but this practice seems to have generally ceased with the release of Snow Leopard.
Suggest you check to see if your wife's third-party configuration includes the Perian codec component and your system does not since this is the codec which my sytsem defaults to for the playback of Sorenson/MP3 MOV content as seen here:
Good Luck!

  • Some avi files wont run in quicktime

I've been having troubles running some divx/xvid files in quicktime, some say that i dont have the right codecs (then takes me to this site that has a listing of some codecs i've never heard of before and some that you have to pay for), also i found that some of the movies work in VLC Media Player, that dont in quicktime, i've installed the latest divx off the site, is there other files that i'd need to download?
(as im a switcher, back in the windows days, there was a site which had megapacks to download called Nimo codec packs, which would take care of sound, and video compatibility for media player (so that it could run divx's, xvids etc.)
I like the feel of quicktime more personally, feels more stable, but sadly im crippled by these issues regarding compatibility with divx/xvid and probably other older codecs

ffmegx is very easy -- but can be difficult to install if you don't follow the directions really closely. Before you install the program you have to download and install three files from third party sites -- the links are on the site -- to make things more confusing you have three files but only two sites are needed to visit. Then install ffmegx and you're set.
ffmegx is easy to use on AVIs. Depending on the size of the AVI I generally convert it to a .mov and adjust the settings to create a monster file. This may seem silly but this maintainst the quality, and .movs are easy for iMovie and iDVD to handle -- they downsize them very well with a minimum loss of quality.
But . . . I hate AVIs and I wish people would stop it already!

  • Quicklook suddenly not working on some .mov files & most .m4v

    Hi,
I'm kind of stuck here and could use some help.
Recently, I can no longer get a Quick Look view on some .mov files and many, if not all, .m4v files. They were working when I installed Mountain Lion and perhaps up until the first update. I'm not sure if this is related to the 10.8.2 update, but maybe.
What I'm noticing is that .mov files generated by Adobe After Effects, or even those perhaps converted from other formats usings MPEG Streamclip are no longer able to be Quick Looked. Also, .m4v files that were for certain converted by a 3rd party app are no longer viewable via QL. The files are not corrupt and open fine in Quicktime.
I followed the advice in this article: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57355404-263/fixing-quick-look-issues-in-os -x/ with no real difference. I've also repaired permissions.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Am I missing a QL plugin?
    Thanks,
    Antonio

  • No thumbnails for some .mov files Bridge CS5

I'm using Bridge CS5 to organise some video which has been digitised from a sony camera in File Maker Pro X. My operating system is Mac OS X. I have Quicktime player 10.1 and have just checked for updates.
Some of my .mov files show thumbnails which can be watched in Bridge. Other folders just show the thumbnails as black rectangles - these can be watched in a pop up window but not directly in the Bridge preview panel.
The files were all digitised in the same way and recorded on the same camera so should be the same format.
After looking at discussions on here I have tried updating QuickTime and clearing the cache but no dice.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Claire

That is odd that if it was recorded on same camera they are different.  I do know that the thumbnail is a complex issue.  A little foggy on this as it has been awhile, but if you get a black thumb it is the way the marker of the first frame is recorded.  In some cases this shows a black frame.  Hope this gives you some clue to do a web search for the real answer.

  • Premiere Pro CC freezes when processing some .mov files

    I'm new to Premiere.
I just got some .mov files to be edited.  I'm not sure how they were created.
When I try to do anything with them Premiere freezes and I have to force it closed and then manually kill Adobe QT32 Sever.exe in order to restart Premiere.
If I can get a clip to play, the video freezes but the audio plays.
The Media Pending screen shows in the thumbnails when mousing over the clips in the bin.
Just importing all the clips into a project will freeze Premiere.
Quicktime Player plays the files ok.
Loading the files into  VideoPad results in a 4 second clip. That is, every file ends up being just the first 4 seconds when VideoPad imports it.
I do not have this problem with other .mov files from a Nikon D3100.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply, Jeff.
The MOV files are client provided.  He emailed me today that he recorded them on a consumer camera that created AVCHD files which he converted to MOV through a free utility he found on line.  Sigh.
Since Quicktime Player plays the individual files he didn't know there was a problem until they were given to me to assemble into a finshed piece.  As the clip numbers are not sequential, I'm guessing there was a committee who looked at all the clips and chose the ones they want in the final product and only those were given to me.
He said he could copy the original files onto a DVD (hopefully he has the entire contents of the chip so I will get all the files that were created as this knowledge base article indicates).
I tried Handbrake and what I get is a split second of live video which then freezes as the audio plays out. :-(  I, too, suspect the fault is in the multiple video data types.
    Thanks again for your input.

Any clues as to why this is happening? I suspect it's a codec issue of some sort

FC 6 supports 29.97 & 25 IMX frame rates but a third party plug-in is required:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/FCP6_HD_and_Broadcast_Formats.pdf
    This plug-in costs $100
    http://www.nanocosmos.de/v4/en/products/quicktimeIMX.html
This software is cheaper at $30 and will let you test drive it for free

There may be a free option available but I'm not aware of it.

  • Problem importing some .MOV files into Premiere Elements 11

    Hello,
I am trying to import film footage into Premiere Elements 11 and am coming across a rather confusing problem. All of the footage is in .mov format and all of it was taken on the same device on the same day with the same settings.
When I try to import the footage, some files import ok, others will not import at all and I get a message saying 'The importer reported a generic error'. It seems very odd to me that some .MOV files are OK and others are not.
This same footage can easily be imported into Premiere Elements 10 and into Windows Movie Maker - which makes me think the issue is with Premiere Elements 11.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?
    Thanks

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it? Did you use Premiere Elements to get the video from the camcorder to your computer?
Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime installed on your computer?

    Hi
Did You ever use - iPhoto ?
Did You may be direct iPhoto to a different Photo Library
As iMovie tries to find the appropriate photo library - it can get lost if iPhoto direct it into a Library on a not connected external hard disk or to a strange location - And iMovie HANGS.
Do - When no other program is running that might interfere
    • Start iPhoto - BUT NOW KEEP alt-key (option key) DOWN during the full Start-Up process
    • Now iPhoto let's You select Photo Library
    • Select the one in Your Account / Home folder / Pictures ! !
    • Then iPhoto should start up OK
    • Now Quit iPhoto
    • START iMovie
Does it still hangs - then I would suspect - iMovie Pref. file
If it Run's OK - Then HURRAY !

Any idea why some movie files will suddenly start to lag or stutter?
You start playing a file and all is ok, but then about 2 minutes in it starts to play up.
If you pause it and then press play again it will be ok for about a minute then play up again.
I thought it was down to wireless or USB cable issue, but still happens when I copy the files to the hard drive. The files are ok if viewed on a PC.

Can you post more info for better understanding?
Obviously you have desktop PC and want to watch movies from....where? YouTube, saved on HDD, external HDD?
Are video files in HD or compressed video files?

Only some movies I have placed in iTunes "Movies" are viewable via Apple TV.  Why?  Also some movies have blue dots in front of their titles and some don't . Why?

Please understand I am a frustrated customer like you,  , but the availability of movies that have been shown before is dependant on licencing from the rights owners. Sky quite rightly have to pay the film studios for the ability to show to Sky's customers. As I understand it they purchase the right for a period of time, hence when the right expires then it has to be removed. The costing of the movies does reflect on the anticipated popularity of the programme, hence an older less popular movie might seem expensive but if not many people watch and pay that would be right. The apparent silliness of having movies in the store and on demand, allows those people who do not have a movie subscription to rent the movie on a one off basis. I agree that Sky seem to be licencing some programmes for shorter periods and it really upsets me when movies appear in buy and keep but not available to rent only. I recently queried Sky about Fortitude being available in OnDemand until 2022!, then of course found out that Sky owns the rights of the series. I can only say be careful if you are a movies subscriber and wish to watch a movie, not to select the Sky Store version if it is available in the Movies on Demand section. I recently wanted to watch a film that I found in Sky store at a cost, and just to be sure I searched for it and found it was to be shown on Channel 4 in a few days. I don't think we'll ever understand how such decision are made as to how long they licence movies for and how the charging model works with the film studios. Logically you would think that a smallish fee to have available indefinately and to pay the studio fee based on the number of rentals would be better, but that might be difficult to administer and Sky would have to have extra server storage fees, which they outsource. Hope that help you understand

Is there a way to move files from one folder to another without copying and pasting and then going back to delete the original?  The cut and paste function is not available and there's no "move to" function.  Am I missing something?  It was so easy with Windows.

Drag the files, or press Option when pasting them; this accesses the Move To function.
