Some movies become inaccessible for no reason
I have iTunes 10.0.1 + new ATV2 + MacMini Server running it all.
I have movies loaded into iTunes but very now and then they appear with an exclamation mark next to them in iTunes and they can't be selected in ATV.
This is random at random times.
I have found a temporary fix which is similar to having TV shows appear correctly.
The fix is to select the movie in iTunes, select get info and then close the info dialogue. The exclamation mark goes away and the movie is then accessible in ATV2.
I have to do this for every movie separately to get it to appear but later on others randomly appear with an exclamation mark and are not then accessible in ATV.
This may be an iTunes issue so will post there also.
There has to be a fix. It really seems like it needs an auto refresh from time to time. Even a manual refresh button would be better than the current situation.
Also, why do we have to select every TV show and go through the get info procedure and select TV Show individually one at a time to get them to show up in ATV? - see article:

if the problem was happening on only 1 computer, i would suspect some corrupted permissions or an other software issue. But the fact is that i encountered that problem on different computer (both ppc and intel) on different location, in a specific "range of time". In 10 years of mac troubleshooting, i've never encountered a problem with the "software update" command, on a network of about 35 computer.
Since about 4 week, it happen 4 times!

I have an external hard drive which has my i-photo on it & some movies from i-movie that I have on disk now. But for some reason my ehd has a caution symbol on it & I can't move my event to free up space on my hd so that I can export i-movie events. Help!
Usually the caution symbol means that it's formatted as a PC compatible format like NTFS or most likely FAT32. For iMovie to use it the ehd must be formatted Mac OS Extended. Then iMovie will show it without the caution symbol and you can drag/drop open any Event/Project from that hard drive.
To find out if it's formatted as PC:
Go to the desktop, holding down the Control key click on that ehd and in the pop-menu choose 'Get Info'
Under Format: It will say whether or not it's Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The only way to undo a PC formatted ehd would be to copy everything off of it first, Erase/Format the drive using Disk Utility in the Applications>Utilities folder on your Mac, choosing the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format in the pull-down menu there. -
I rented a movie. I want to see it using different user on same mac for security reason. How can I do this? Home Sharing fails to do this, so far.
Copy the movie from the current library to the correct library.

i have the new version of iMovie, and when i try to start the program, i can't because it says that it is looking for some movie files from the Iphoto, so all the program is locked up... how can i do to restart the program??

Did You may be direct iPhoto to a different Photo Library
As iMovie tries to find the appropriate photo library - it can get lost if iPhoto direct it into a Library on a not connected external hard disk or to a strange location - And iMovie HANGS.
Do - When no other program is running that might interfere
• Start iPhoto - BUT NOW KEEP alt-key (option key) DOWN during the full Start-Up process
• Now iPhoto let's You select Photo Library
• Select the one in Your Account / Home folder / Pictures ! !
• Then iPhoto should start up OK
• Now Quit iPhoto
• START iMovie
Does it still hangs - then I would suspect - iMovie Pref. file
If it Run's OK - Then HURRAY !

I recently purchased a refurbed iMac with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. It came with iMovie ver. 9.0.5 installed. I do allot with iMovie and iDVD and would like to get a camcorder to add movie clips. Does anyone have any suggestions for a reasonably price camcorder that would work with my setup?

I've been given some .mov files to use on FCP.
When I play them I can hear the audio but the pictures are green. The client says they play for him.
I am on mac 10.5.8 and FCP 6.0.6.
The files details are the same as a file that will play.

There is no flash player for iPad and likely wont be in the near future. Some people use Skyfire and other apps as ways to view flash on a remote server, but reviews are mixed.
Facebook works fine on the iPad browser, but you can also use dedicated apps. Games such as Farmville are also available in app forms, as is YouTube. What movie sites are you trying to view? -

I'm going on vacation and would like to have some movies rented for the flight. I won't have wifi so can i download rented movies?
Prior to going you can rent and download them on your iPad via its iTunes store app, or rent and download them on your computer's iTunes and connect and your iPad and move them to it - they will go in the iPad's Videos app.
Some people have posted that they need to start playing rentals whilst they still have internet connection, so you may want to watch a few seconds prior to going offline - you have 24 hours if you are in the US, 48 hours elsewhere, after starting to watch a rental before it expires. -

I'm not quite sure what you want - if you want an overview of all open windows, use the F key.. Otherwise please post back and be more specific.

NMH410 some files have become inaccessible
The hardware: brand-new NMH410 with two WD 1TB drives, configured as RAID-1.
The firmware: 3.18.15.
The clients: Linux 2.6.31 kernel, Kubuntu Karmic Koala
Over the past days I've copied over my media library to the NMH410 ... so far so good.
This day I face the strange situation that I get access denied to several files in my media/music subdirectories. I can see from my Linux clients that the files exist and I can also see that they should be readable. However, whenever I try to access these files, I get access denied.
Using the flash-based browser I can access these files, copy them around, et cetera. However, if I do make copies, then I cannot access these copies either. Seems to consistently getting the wrong access rights in the NMH410.
Resetting to factory defaults did not help either. Cleared the browser cache, reloaded. Disconnected SMB clients, attached them anew ... problem still persists. Most files are accessible, quite some audio files aren't anymore.
What am I doing wrong here? I'm totally dazzled.

Rebooting linux (the kernel you mean?) is not required as the CIFS is nowadays more or less run in user space, if I remember correctly. Dropping mounts cleans up. No reboot or session logout required. Even almost all software package updates, even if they are concerning system daemons and libraries, are done without any reboot. Win7 has an extremely long road to travel to come even close. I have reasons to only use Linux. In office I get paid to loose time with XP. At home I want to be effective.
Oh, and as support was stubborn to insist on windows I grabbed my office laptop with WinXP and gave it a fresh try. Guess what: same result, who could have expected? You know, SAMBA is nowadays better in terms of compatibility between different SMB/CIFS protocol, server, and client versions than microsoft itself. In fact, SAMBA servers and clients on Linux are better at working around errors in Microsofts implementations than Microsofts code. No wonder that Microsoft is not able to document SMB properly, only the SAMBA project has delivered so far.
Together with a support person we found out that the NMH 410 is slowly killing itself by assigning wrong user/group ids to inodes -- well, basically I found that out and the support then more or less agreed and acknowledged. However, Linksys has no idea why the NMH is doing this. I got the advice to backup everything to a locally attached USB disk -- the only thing that worked at this point --, then to delete all files and to copy the files back.
While the backup procedure worked successfully, copying back resulted in complete desaster which even rendered the shared without access! The NMH 410 was, for whatever reason, changing ownership of the share directories to 0/0, thus rendering access impossible to the SAMBA server process. It seems that the webserver is running under root, arrrrgh! Bad design!
The next support person told me to remove the eSATA disks and to reformat them -- he probably meant to kill any partition setup. He didn't care about that I don't have any eSATA bays and interfaces at hand and don't want to drive to a shop just to buy then in order to get the self-hanging unit to work again. After he refused to help and insisted on me having to reformat the drives outside the NMH 410 I ignored his ignorance and phoned Syslink support.
The worked better and I was quickly told to try to completely reset the unit by powering off for more than 30s, then pressing reset and powering up, yet holding reset for more than 30s. I was told this should put the unit into disk repartition/reformat mode. Tried that two times, but the NMH 410 just came up (as expected) with only some settings reset, but the file system untouched and with the wrong owner/group settings. Still no access.
It seems that the problems started when I put the NMH 410 the second day after I purchased it from RAID-0 to RAID-1 with some data already on it. Thus, I put the unit back to single disc use, which causes the file system to be generated anew. This seems to be the only way to do it; two support persons didn't know this, only the third one was aware of this method albeit he suggested the non-working 30s reset procedure.
Finally converted the disks with the fresh file system to RAID-1 ... well, still waiting for the conversion to finish. After that will have finished, I will try to restore some files from the FAT32 USB disk, using FTP as suggested (eeek!). We will see.
After all the years this is the first Linux system I have come across that it killing access to it by randomly assigning wrong user/group ownerships to inodes. This seems to have required brilliant craftmenship by Linksys to make Linux behave in such a braindead manner. My confidence in Linksys and especially this product has totally gone away. Support is awful.
