Some MP3 not accepted by iPod?

Some MP3 files I've got are accepted by iTunes and apparently transfer to the iPod, and if one selects
the iPod in iTunes they appear and play (assuming
from the iPod itself). However, they don't show up when using the iPod.
I've solved this in the past by telling iTunes to convert
to MP3 and the resulting MP3 are visible on the iPod.
However, I've now found that some MP3 even created by
iTunes, and visible/playable on the iPod within iTunes, are
still NOT visible on the iPod itself. What's the
problem, and how to fix it? If someone at Apple
would like to have a look at one of the MP3s
that show this behavior, happy to send it along...
THanks...

I solved the problem in this case with a kludge, but it
seems pretty likely that there is a bug in the
iPod OS that needs fixing.
Using windows search for *.mp3 in the iPod song
area and sorting by size, I found that the invisible
files WERE on the iPod. They also were there if one
looked by Song name directly. There were 7 files
involved by the Artist "Om Kolthoum" with genre
"Egyptian". Two of these had Album name "Om Kolthoum"
and the other 5 had no Album name specified. The
two songs with an album name showed up under
genre "Egyptian", Artist "Om Kolthum", and Album
"Om Klothoum". But the others showed up only when
looking directly at the song name. When I added
the album name "Om Kolthum" to the 5 files with
no Album, they all now show up via Genre, Artist,
and Album. This should not be necessary!
Hope someone at Apple is reading this...
THanks...

  • Some songs not playing on iPod in iPhone

I've had about 4 iPhones over the past few years and before that i had a second generation iPod nano. Over this period of time, I purchased a lot of music thru iTunes either on my computer or thru the one in iPhone. I then transferred music over from each iPhone to the new one. Usually this has worked fine, however since I upgrade to 4S, I've noticed that songs I have purchased thru iTunes on past iPhones (or the old iPod) no longer play. Although when just testing out different ones now I notice some old ones will play and others won't. I'm not sure if it's just a random issue or not. If I have it on shuffle and it comes to one of those songs, it either stops, or oddly enough, it will start playing a different song but still show the other song's album cover and information. If I play a song individually and it doesn't work, it will either just do nothing or it will skip to the next song immediately. I can't quite figure out what's happening with this but I'm guessing it has to be a migration issue.
Has anyone else experienced this and know how I can fix it? Is it just a matter of authorizing something within iTunes or iPhone?
    Please let me know. Thanks!

This is actually happenening on my non-itunes bought songs...basically songs that got converted from another source...perhaps from my old MP3 player from Sony...the problem is, they used to work on my ipod, and now they don't. I did try resetting the ipod, but that didn't seem to help.

  • Editing some mp3's for my ipod gaps arent retaining

    Hi there first post here
ok so i got an ipod touch the other day and i have to say that the audio quality is AWFUL!! its all mids and highs narrow and no bass at all and if you try to use the EQ on the ipod itself it gets even worse. but i came up with a solution. by custom EQ editing my mp3's in adobe Audition i was able to get them to sound AMAZINGLY good im actually pretty proud of myself being a total N00b at this stuff. but when i export them out to mp3 the gaps are longer so there is a slight hickup between songs.
is there a way to fix this?
    thanks

as Ozpeter mentions, the nature of how mp3 files are created can create gaps at the top and tail of the file. The data is saved into blocks of equal size. if you run out of data after a new block has been created, the remainder is filled with silence.
An example would be you have a pitcher of water representing the audio data, and a stack of paper cups to pour it into. as you get to the bottom of the pitcher, you may only fill the final cup part of the way, but you still have to deal with the remainder of the cup.
Of course, once you open that MP3 file, the silence is there at the end. once saved as a new mp3, new silence can be added making the "gap" seem longer than before.
My apologies for the analogy. I'm coming down with a cold.

  • Some mail not syncing between iPod and MacBook

    Hello
I have an iPod Touch, 4th gen running the latest version of iOS and a MacBook Pro running OS 10.7.5.  Until Friday I had two e-mail accounts that I used every day, and got my messages on both the iPod and the MacBook.  I have iCloud set up with an icloud.com address, plus another address not related to iCloud.  All my icloud.com message would sync perfectly between my iPod and my MacBook.
On Friday I deleted my other address (the non-icloud one).  Now all the messages I received to my icloud address *before or after* Friday sync to my MacBook, but there are three messages that I received on Friday that only appear on my iPod.  I would like to see these on my MacBook because that's where I keep old messages for future reference.
Any idea how to fix this?  I can forward them to myself, but then the recipient will be me and not the original person. Not a tragic thing, but will be confusing when I try to find them in the future.
Any help will be appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

Just to be sure I understand your question:
This is with an Apple email account (@iCloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com)?
When this happens, is the mail visible through webmail on iCloud.com (on the desktop browser)?

  • Some movies not accepting covers?

Does anyone know why iTunes won't apply covers to some movies and does to others? Also all of my movies that don't have a cover have a scene from another movie entirely for some reason?!
Any help would be great! I'm using the latest version of iTunes but I have had this issue for a long time now.
    Thanks

Where did these movies originate from? MP4 is the container, the specs inside also matter.

  • Itunes not accepting ipod

    HI All
My iTunes is suddendly not accepting my ipod and is saying I need to re-install my iTunes - is there an easier way of doing this?

    Hello, Lynngreen.
I would recommend uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components.  Please make sure to uninstall all components outlined in the article below in order.  Once this is done, install iTunes again.

  • IPOD 5G NOT ACCEPTING VIDEO PLEASE RESPOND

I'm sure there has been multiple posts about this issues in the past but i need some help. When I try to connect my 5g to itunes it does not accept the video files but does accept the audio. I get a message that says "some of the files cannot be played on this ipod". What is goin on??
Can someone help me solve this problem or give me a link to past threads discussing and solving this problem?
    Thanks.

    My pleasure
    1. Fist you you to the Movies tab, uncheck the check box "Sync the following...."
    2. Click on the "+" button on bottom-left conner to add the movie. A dialog will open, search for your movie. 1 movie a time.
    3. It will do the rest of convertion for you.
    4. Look in to the folder where PSPWare stored the convertion files and take it (C:\Documents and Settings\....\My Documents\PSPWare\Movies)
    5. Go to iTunes on File->Add files to Lib and look for the movie file you just converted.
It should show on the Movies section of iTunes, and it will copy to iPod next time you plug it in.
There are some more configuration in converting movie on PSPWare if you want to try it (button "Options..."). If not then you still get nice movies on iPod.
Goodluck, let me know if you need any help. Cheers

  • After Updating podcasts and some show zero TIME and not play on ipod

Why do some podcasts not play and show zero TIME? At first I tried to play on ipod and after choosing to play a podcast it wouldn't play and jumped back to original title list on ipod. I wondered why, then went into iTunes and it showed the TIME on these as zero. Therefor there is nothing there to play, but I wonder why some different podcasts do this? Is it the website person who produced it that messed up so it wouldn't get into iTunes with anything, or is it iTunes not working? I have all podcasts set to Import using MP3 Encoder in Prefs, so then the KIND in list of podcasts show up as MPEG AUDIO FILE- does this make a difference?
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I noticed I had to click on title name in podcast list, then I saw highlighted UNSUBSCRIBE at bottom as you said and was able to re-get podcast and it now has some minutes showing in TIME so am able to play. THANKS!
I still wonder why this happens and if it's on iTunes side or producer of podcast.

I have Prem. Elements 12.  I am trying to add audio media.  I know where the audio files are located (using GET INFO while in iTunes), and when I try to add certain audio files, some are accepted and some are not.  In one case, when I opened a particular folder, the song was not listed, even tho' the song is there when using Windows Explorer.  This happens with mp3 and mp4 and just wav files.  Some audio are accepted, most are not.  I get that codec is not installed error message, too.

  • How come some of my songs will not accept artwork

    Hello,
I have a few songs in my library that will not accept artwork. I tried several ways, but although I can put them illustration spot, they will not show up.
It is maybe 3% of the total, but very annoying.
    Anyone with the same experience?
    MacMini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

They are of the type MPEG-audiobestand MPEG-1, Layer 3.
So they look like 'normal' mp3's.
I see now in the info that the ones not accepting illustrations have at the iten 'Gecodeerd met:' the answer 'onbekend' (=unknown).
There exist many applications to encode audio files to mp3's.
    Some short info about mp3-tagging:
mp3's do not only contain the compressed audio information, but also have a 'container' for all kind of information, and from version 2 upwards room for pictures and lyrics.
If you're not familiar with the tagging system, take a look at this page:
    http://www.id3.org/ID3v2Easy
You can also find high-tech information on that website.
The problem files either contain no tag at all, an old version or a modified tag.
iTunes obviously simply refuses to add the picture to the tag.
    Try this first:
Select a song and then choose 'Convert ID3 tags...' from the Advanced menu.
Choose v2.2 (this is the default tag version of iTunes) and click OK.
Try to add a picture now.
If it works, convert the tags of all problem files and add the pictures.
If this doesn't work try to convert the song and then add the picture to the copy:
Select a song and Get Info. Look at the number at 'Bit Rate:' (Bitsnelheid).
Go to Preferences>Advanced>Importing (Voorkeuren>Geavanceerd>Importeren) and set 'Import Using:' (Importeer met:) to 'MP3 Encoder' (MP3-codering). Set 'Setting:' (Instelling:) to the bit rate you found.
Next, choose 'Convert Selection to MP3' from the Advanced menu in the menubar.
iTunes will create a copy of the song file. Now add the picture to the copy.
    This should work.
If it indeed works, you can repeat this procedure for all problem files.
A way to do that, is to put the problem files in a normal playlist, select them all (Command-A) and convert them.
When the conversion is done, check the converted files.
To delete the originals, select the playlist with the originals and Option-Delete (press and hold the Option key, then press Delete) the playlist.
iTunes will ask you to confirm to delete the playlist and remove the songs from the library.

i have some mp3 files that work and are fine on the pc but when i try and open the file on centrale there is nothing in the folder - these files are taged so it cant be that? they are downloaded from the internet and are not from a music cd? so they dont have gracenote recognition - is this the reason ?

I don?t think that is the reason. I think there is some problem with the synchronization.

The songs from the Sony MP3 player need to be imported into your iTunes library first before they can be synced or added to your iPod Classic.
Regarding the songs that didn't import into iTunes, what format are they in and what seems to be different from them compared with the tracks that did import?

  • Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes. Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod. Only podcasts are affected.

I have not seen this precise issue addressed anywhere. I don’t know if it’s an iTunes or an iPod problem:
    - Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes;
this, after normal behavior for more than a year since purchase of the iPod.
    - Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod.
    - Only podcasts are affected.
    - This concerns an iPod nano 6th gen. and iTunes 11.0.2 (26) on System 10.6.8
    - The only change to iTunes, the Mac, or the iPod is that just before this condition began
I’d begun syncing an iPhone via iTunes.
I sync manually (“manually manage music and videos”). The first time this happened, I wanted to delete seventeen podcast episodes (all belonging to one podcast) existing on the iPod — but they didn’t show up in iTunes. I tried re-downloading them and re-syncing, to see if the new versions would somehow “re-link” to iTunes. They didn’t. Only one — new — episode appeared in iTunes.
I ultimately reset the iPod and manually resynced all the podcasts I currently had on iTunes. That worked, though I had to painstakingly add in all the other content deleted by the reset.
So: after that reset and manual sync, all podcasts and episodes on the iPod were visible to iTunes and I was able to delete the podcast and its — now 18 — episodes I’d wanted to get rid of to begin with. But the next time I connected the iPod, only 8 podcast episodes out of 21 episodes total existing on the iPod were visible to iTunes. These are different podcasts; I’d deleted the original “invisible” ones.
By “visible,” I mean in the “Podcasts” list view under “[name]’s iPod” in the iTunes sidebar. If I select “[name]’s” iPod in the iTunes sidebar and the “Podcasts” tab, all podcasts and episodes are visible, though greyed out because I’m set to sync manually. It’s unclear to me if these are the podcasts on the iPod or those currently in iTunes, as they are currently the same. If I switch to syncing automatically, all content on the iPod will be lost again, so I’m not up to trying it at the moment.
As I said,  this involves only podcasts. All other content on the iPod does appear in iTunes.

I have the same problem- i see my movies in the ipod section in itunes and they even show as mpeg4 in the 'kind' section but they dont have that small TV icon next to them. if i play these in itunes, they play fine- but try playing them on the ipod and all you hear is the sound and no picture. All videos that i manually transfer work fine in the beginning- its when i hook up the ipod to the comp again and start itunes- they start showing up without the 'tv' icon!! i have to again transfer them from the itunes library to activate them as videos.
